For me this video is 3 months old, but I don't have a problem with how you look at all!! I enjoy your videos, period. Thanks for your sewing instructions, because it's always good to have alternative methods for doing things.
We say “Press” where I come :-) You look fabulous! You remind me of a cross between Anne Margaret and Kathy Lee Gifford. I love your videos. I have been sewing for over 40 years, but still sew like a beginner :-/ Your videos are really helpful and I always look forward to them.
I say this: any sewing is good sewing. Speed doesn’t matter, output doesn’t matter, perfection doesn’t matter. What matters is the craft - the scheming and deciding and making a garment come to life. The problem solving, the memory work, the learning, the exhilaration. So if you’re sewing, I am cheering for you!!👏👏
I miss seeing on you tube. I always look for your updated videos. I am a 82 year old widow and I love sewing for my hobby. I keep looking everyday to see if you post a new video. You have always been my favorite you tuber. I hope you will start sewing again. Please don't give up. You are a real inspiration to me.
I like machine sewing just as much as anyone who sews. However, there are times, like your set-in sleeve, that hand basting becomes a sewer's best friend! Hand basting allows me to even further ease the seams together, get the pins out of the way, and to sew a lovely sleeve into place, and get it right the first time without having to rip out the seam, repeat, and maybe even pull my hair out! I often hand baste collars, cuffs, and any place that I think needs a little special easing to make it just right! Bravo to you for taking the brief amount of time to hand baste! I enjoy your videos, and it's nice to see someone who enjoys sewing their own clothing or clothing for others.
Yes!!!!!! That did help me!!! Always intimidated with sleeves!!!! Basting is a great idea. You do not look ugly!!! I am 64 and have the most hideous skin as I have tons of freckles and age spots. I love gardening and fishing in my kayak and well….. sun does horrible things to skin and dirt isn’t very kind to nails. 💕
Thanks so much, this really helped me being a beginner sewist. I'd already worked out that two rows of gathering stitches was hopeless, I got more puckers with that approach, so I'd already come to the realisation that one row of gathering stitches was plenty. what I had not tried was sewing the sleeve with the gathers on the upside and the flat bodice on the feed dog side. I think that's a brilliant way to sew it to help ensure there are no major puckers. Thank you for showing us. I've taken up sewing while turning 50! And I love it. It's creative and I'm learning so much. From New Zealand. So appreciate you.
Oh thank you, izabeau, you’re too sweet. I’m not out of the woods with this dental surgery infection and boy! it’s taken a toll! I appreciate all this wonderful cheering up.🌸💕
Oh my goodness , you are so joyful and pleasant to listen to! You are an amazing teacher ! I have taught sewing myself and I have learned 3 things this morning -the crimping technique ( just watched that video) , if it says baste -BASTE!! , and go buy ( or make ) that Pressing Ham!! Seriously, been sewing for decades, and you have taught me SO MUCH in one half hour with coffee . I recently bought that pattern too, isn’t it the cutest? Bless you for your kindness and sweet spirit!
This is so nice, Wendy!💕Thank you for writing these wonderful words to me. Gosh. First, let me say that I really appreciate you complimenting my teaching style. Eek, I listen back on some of these videos and cringe at the way I sound. But hopefully the techniques come through.👍And as far as showing the patterns, that’s my biggest joy. 🌸 I love to sew them up and show them on a regular person. I’m so happy you’re watching and enjoying. I think you’ll like crimping. Welcome! Thank you!
Wendy I'm self taught and those 3 things-never heard of crimp. And I usually skip basting but she's got a good point. And I'm thinking I can make that ham.😂😎🤔
Thank you!! I just happened to be doing this for the 1st time today but pattern called for the double stitch gathering. I thought I could do it with a single stitch. I've been sewing bags and other non-clothing stuff for years, but feared venturing into clothing, cause I fear it just won't fit right. However, I ran across your videos a few weeks ago, and you have inspired me. Btw...you look beautiful. No worries on how casual you are. Don't we all sew in our PJs...I did today 🙂
Did anyone ever tell you that you are incredibly sweet? Well I am! You’ve made a rough day ten times better with this note, and I appreciate it so much.🌸Thank you Stephanie! Your foray into garment making will succeed, just keep sewing!😄💕
Stephanie I'm self taught 62 years old the hardest part of sewing is getting the fit right. My new project is sewing my body double (pattern with my exact measurements from bootstrapfashion.com). I hope it will help.
Hi Viv, I really enjoy watching your videos. You actually show your finished work so clearly! Seeing you wearing the items, full views front and back and moving in them is amazing and helps me see which pattern I would like to try. And your honest notes about details and complications or dislikes is refreshing and real! This sewing demo was fantastic and clear. Please keep on doing what your doing!
Oh my gosh, Lidia, this is so nice!🌸 Thank you! I’m really pleased to hear that you enjoyed this little tutorial - much room for improvement but it feels good to have launched the first one. My primary aim for the channel is to show patterns made, and worn by a regular Joe (or Jill.) I appreciate your compliments thoroughly.💕😃
Hi jj, nice to find your message. The basics! Our sewing backbones. Pressing is a biggie, isn’t it? I am really glad that you enjoyed this video, thank you for writing and your cheerful emojis!😄👍
My pleasure, I’m Just... I do need to improve, but this was only my first. Your encouragement will get me going to make more!😄👍 I love your enthusiasm!💕 Thank you!!
You did a great job making this understandable. You really are a good teacher; your approach is a nice balance of information and inspiration! I learned something after sewing for more than a decade earlier in my life. I had never heard of crimping, and I never realized that double notches are always used for the back of a project, and single notches are used on the front. Love that! One suggestion, go easy on yourself. You look great, even though not feeling well and you speak well. You're relateable. In my humble opinion, if you were someone most of us will never be doing something most of us can never do, you wouldn't be the rising star that you are! I hope you feel 100% soon.
Wow, Denise, what a lovely and thoughtful comment, thank you!🌸💕I will refer back to it, as I go along with my channel. You sound like a wise person and I appreciate your compliments and suggestions. Very sweet!
Thank you for your Very helpful video as I haven’t put in a sleeve in eons, and I’m about to do one today. I also watched your crimping video. So thanks again and wish me luck!!!
I will have to give this method a go Viv! The whole reason I only sew stretch fabrics, is because I can sew them in via the 'flat' method. Whenever I have tried to get sleeves in woven items, I always end up with a gathered sleeve head, and call it a 'design feature', but one day I'd like to have a normal sleeve on a woven top/dress! 🙄😂 Sorry to hear you were poorly when you kindly made this video, and trust you are well now! As always, TFS 👍❤
You should teach sewing classes. You're so patient with such a professional voice! I learned something new about crimping the sleeve! Thank you so much. I'm going to try my pinking scissors too. The dress look so pretty.
Oh, thank you Diane.🌸💕 Such a nice comment! I can’t believe how maddeningly slow I start talking, though, sheesh. Gotta speed that up. If you have good pinking shears, guard them! I have some cheapies from Walmart - not recommended.😄
I just love your videos, they are so informative and helpful. And you are a breath of fresh air. Thank you so much for doing these videos for everyone , they're very fun to watch and I feel like I have a new friend..
Let’s toast to new friends!😄💕Thanks so much Bridget for your lovely comments! Makes my day. I started this channel on a lark thinking, “well, maybe about 25 people will see it.” But I vastly underrated the friendliness of the sewing community here! So welcome aboard, I hope you find some ideas and laughter.😄👍
Love your sewing videos. You are so easy to understand. I put in my first sleeve because of this video! Thank you so much. More sewing videos PLEASE!! Btw. You did good camera work sewing and taping. Kudos
Appreciate this video! I had no idea double notches were always in the back! Hey Lady, don't be critical of your videos. You do great! Thank you for your efforts!
This helped me so much. I was sewing light blazer style jacket. (Told you I was inspired) lol. Couldn’t get the sleeve to fit. I came to your videos and found this help. Thank you so much! I how simple you explain stuff. Great tip on notches. I learned something new. 👍😁😍
Well done! Nice instruction! I know setting in sleeves and pockets can often confuse new sewers. You made it easy and frustration free. Also, your beautiful without make-up. Please do not apologize. Your gift of instruction is more then enough! I started on a treadle making my dad's suits (70's collers..crazy..lol) keep up being you! Hope you feel better! Peace, love and light
Wow, Anneliese, sewing on a treadle is an art unto itself. That you made your dad SUITS is another layer of outstanding!!😃 I’m happy to hear you thought the tutorial was all right. And you’re very sweet to reassure me about looking bad. So nice of you.💕Thanks.
Hope you're feeling better now. Really like your videos, always fun and informative. I've not done any dressmaking for years, you have inspired me to have a go! Thank you x
Thank you ...Definitely useful! Could you make some beginners tips for sergers? I seem to have a hard time figuring it out......Thank you so much....love your videos and you make us smile!
thank you for putting in the effort to make a video when you're not feeling very well - the dress looks great. ...and I think you look just fine, a natural beauty. have a good week!
Oh gosh, you’re a sweetheart, Heather.💕Thanks for this nice comment. You’re a very thoughtful person and I appreciate being on the receiving end. Glad you’re here!🌸
Hi from Manchester 🇬🇧 just been browsing your videos and love the crimping technique , it's given me more confidence to tackle set in sleeves, Andrea 👍
I’m a Presser from way back, Kelly!😃👍Glad to hear this little video was a good reminder for you. I am blown away by these positive reactions. Thank you for taking the time to write!🌸💕
Well, my dear, you are a peach. 🌸 Thank you Rhonda, for this lovely message that is making me feel downright great. And I’ll take some “great” after a week of lousy. I will also endeavor to be less critical of my videos - eek, that’s going to take some effort!😂
Thanks, Ria! I need that reminder to keep smiling.😃👍 I am also glad that you enjoyed the video. I wasn’t sure about the helpfulness angle, so I’m really pleased that you think it was.💕
Oh Mel, it’s been a road. And not a smooth one!! I am almost back to 100, some pesky residual side effects that are clearing. Thanks for all the lovely well wishes and compliments. Makes me happy!😃🌸
Thank you for this vid and your channel! I havent sewn in years since i became plus size, but you are inspiring me to go and give it a try again. Love to see your patterns and fabric choices. You are a lovely person. I wish you a speedy recovery and happy sewing. P.S. i made all my own clothes for school in the 60s! We still had to wear skirts and dresses.
Hi Margaret!🌸How fantastic that you sewed all your own clothes “back in the day!” I have heard this from several others as well, and I am in awe! (Did you check out my 1960’s dresses? I like sewing them with a modem aesthetic.) If you did want to sew again, I can say that there are myriad patterns in all styles and sizes. No shortage of choices. Ditto fabrics, though shopping online for fabric is the norm now and not the exception. The sewing world has changed, and yet it remains gloriously the same, which is the beauty of it. Like riding a bike, right? Thank you for writing!💕Glad you’re here.😃
I really enjoyed this tutorial. Can't wait to see the dress when it's all done. So sorry you are having problems with the dental work. Hope it gets better for you soon.
So there I was, just chillin, thinking to myself.. "I know how to put a sleeve in, but I'm gonna watch this because I like Viv..." Then I learned some things! Dang Viv, here I was thinking I'm too cool for school and you just proved me wrong! Ok, so I had no idea that there is a whole faction of people out there who don't use the notches!!! What!?!?!? It has inspired me to try breaking the rules just to see how it goes. Ok, also, while I was aware of crimping, and have done it before, I have not tried it on a sleeve head, so that was an excellent tip. Also, I never realized that the double notches are always in the back! I guess I just assumed people put them wherever they felt like it! Attention to detail has never been my strong suit though... Ok, enough gushing. And you look pretty fabulous as usual. You should see what I sew in!!!
Another great comment from a great girl - thanks so much! Isn’t it funny with sewing, there are just so many ways to do things? Nobody can know of all of them. I figured making this tutorial would be such old/yawn news, but I am really heartened to read a lot of people enjoying this. Yay!😃I’m back to the dental surgeon again today. It’s been a nightmare. Thanks for listening to all my grexing.💕👍
Thank god there are a million ways to accomplish this stuff, I got halfway through a welt pocket before I abandoned the nonsense instructions and just guessed my way through the rest of it! Turned out ok, so not too shabby for my first try! You need to tell this dentist to get it together and do his damn job! We need you back on your feet!
Hi Viv, Thanks for this video. You Looked Fab, wouldn't have known anything was up. Your commentary had me cracking up! 'Stop saying Press' etc. etc. too funny.
Thank you, RV, you’re a sweetheart.💕 Good grief, my talking slows down to a ridiculous degree. Always needing to improve! You know what? Nice people like you give me the push I need. Blessings on you!💐
Love your videos Viv I too didn’t know about front and back notches. I have that pattern as well. No need to keep apologising you do a great job and you always look presentable.
This is a great technique! I haven’t tried this one before but, plan to! Sorry you’ve been under the weather... I said a quick prayer you will feel better ASAP!
Get well soon . I'm a bit under the weather too. Thanks for tutorial , it cheered me up .... I do my sleeves the same way but my pressing isn't so easy as I need a ham . Next purchase.
Hi Diane, hope you’ll be feeling better soon.💕 Yes, those pressing hams are quite helpful. I have a sleeve one, too, but I use the ham much more often. I’m glad the tutorial cheered you up - just like your nice comment cheered me.😄
Hi Viv, I have the exact same sewing machine. Don't you just love it? Ive been sewing since a young girl and this is the very first brand new machine I have owned! Going to try the crimping technique
Hi Lori👋! Same here! This was my very first modern machine. I got it in January 2018. I would say I have a love/grumble relationship with it, but the grumbles are admittedly minor. I’ve had to get past the plastic-y feeling after all of the beautiful solid old Kenmores and my Featherweight, and sometimes I pull those out to sew on them. There are wonderful aspects to the SB3129, for sure. I’m so glad you love yours!!😄👍Hope the crimping works for you, keep at it because it’s good stuff.
Love your videos and look forward to them when they arrive. If possible could you maybe show how you crimped your sleeve head I have never heard of this technique before. I know there probably will be videos out there, but would love to see how you do it. Hope everything settles down with the dental surgery soon :) I see you follow Debbie from Saturday Sewing she is so lovely.
Hi Elaine, I’m happy to tell you that I posted a crimping video today!😄I really appreciate your interest. I hope that it will be clear for you. Thanks for your kind words for getting well.💕And yes, I think Debbie is a doll.👍
Viv you be nice to yourself 😊. You are lovely. Thanks for the tip. I have never heard of that technique. I will have to give it a try. a little video clip of your doing it would be so great if you get a chance! Thanks for sharing and I hope you are feeling better😊
Very helpful. I'd like to see this crimping technique you describe. I seem to have better luck with sleeves using the flat method. Great job on that tutorial.
Thanks, Carmen, I figure my tutorials can only improve, right? Flat sleeve insertion is a great method, and I know that many people often interchange that method with set-in. So happy to hear from you, as always.😄💕
You know, Eliana, you’re right. I am hard on myself and I don’t want to spread that negativity around. I need to be more careful of that! Thank you for your very kind words and reassurance.🌸 You sound like a lovely person.👍
It seems counterintuitive but if you sew with the sleeve next to the feed dogs, it will ease in so much easier. The feed dogs help ease the extra fabric in.
Hi Linda, I used to do my sleeves that way. But I’ve had such success with sewing sleeve-up that I often do not even have to baste (shh, don’t tell anyone) as I can see and control any tucks forming. Many ways up the mountain in sewing, and I say: do what works best for you!😄👍Thanks for writing!
You did an awesome tutorial! Thank you. I didn’t know about your crimping technique nor about the double notch being always in the back. You just inspired me to go make something with sleeves! LOL I REALLY ENJOY YOUR VIDIOS, and I was delighted to see you had loaded a new one.
Thank you, HapiMrs, this is so wonderful!🌸It’s lovely when someone says they enjoy the videos, but to hear them say they are inspired to sew thrills me to pieces.😄 I will be doing a video about crimping, so look for that if you’d like. So happy you’re here!👏
This is a great video. Some fabrics are jars to work with because they are slippery. Joy Barnhardt has a great video on different techniques for putting in sleeves.
Vivmom Sews wow it sounds like I was crazy😂 what I meant was Hard to work with. Yes , I think it is a great tutorial! It was easy to understand and easy you Cody’s see well. Keep it up.
Hi Viv, so sorry to hear that you have had a rough time and hope your feeling much better soon. You look amazing by the way, for not feeling great and you have made a fabulous tutorial 👌. I haven't tried the crimping so must have a go at that...would love you to demonstrate that sometime. Thanks so much Viv for sharing your skills... especially when your not feeling bright, you are amazing 😀💝😘
Hi Sally, thank you for this sweet comment! You are so nice, always thoughtful and encouraging.😄Wow, what a treat. It’s been a struggle for me healing from the dental surgery with infection setting in, ugh. The worst! I am looking forward to feeling 100 again - slowly getting there. I appreciate your kindness.💕🌸
Thanks, Kathie. I’m a goof for mentioning how I look, but it’s been a rough week.👎 Back to the dental surgeon tomorrow for the 5th time since the extraction. Enough already!! I appreciate your well wishes so much. Are you due for surgery soon? I’m thinking of you.🌸
Yay, I hope you make it and love it, Terri! The neckline was a tad challenging for me. Let me know how yours goes! Thank you thank you thank you for watching & writing.💕👍😃
I insert set in sleeves in a similar fashion, using one row of gathering stitches but would be interested in seeing how you do the crimping.Your first tutorial was great! I think you look lovely even though you're not feeling well and hope you feel better soon. Thanks for sharing-can't wait to see the finished dress.😊
Thank you, Laura - kind and sunny as usual, and I appreciate it so much.🌸I will do a demo of the crimping. It really changed sleeves forever for me.👍I figure this first tutorial is rough but the next ones can only be better. And why did my husband and son run for the door when I called for some camera help?! Don’t they know this is big action video making here!? See you next time, I hope.😄
Im hoping u have a quick recovery! I agree, dont be critical of ur videos, u do very well! Thx for the set in sleeve tutorial. I have a hard time working with silky fabrics, so the easing as u baste will help. Also, u look so relaxed amd younger without makeup. Please, give us a tour and sewing machine review of urs.
Aw, you are a darling corina, thanks!🌸Such nice words. I will do a sewing machine tour and machines video. The problem is all these ideas clanging together in my head! I need to take a deep breath and sew. But yes, more videos soon!😄👍
This is awesome I love this video because you explained everything that I now can repeat your steps and not be afraid of putting on sleeves . I could never it right would have to rip out stitches and redo it couple of times. Thanks for the video.
I am so happy to read this, Barbara!🌸 You’ve made my day. My wish for the channel is that folks can see the patterns made, and perhaps be inspired to get out the sewing machine and plug it in! (If it’s a treadle, no plug needed😂) I am so glad you’re sewing, and that perhaps I can assist you with sleeves. Thanks again for writing!😄👍
You dearheart, thanks for saying this! I am so nervous to post a tutorial. Your comment was the first one I saw after posting, and you really made me smile.💕👍😄
You still look good although being under the weather dear , hope you feel better ASAP😘 Pls pls do more of these specific tutorials. Yr simple practical explanation is VERY APPRECIATED 💕🌸😋 You made me want to get back to my project which has given me grief since I started it four days ago 😂 But here comes VIVMOM from USA and with her positive vibes that reached Europe.....and Viola! I am back to my project 😘 Pls when u can do show how to crimp while sewing the fabric through the Sewing Machine 😍 THANK YOU 🙏
Aw, thank you Aurora! What a dear you are. I am sending good, positive, strengthening vibes to your sewing project right NOW! And good for you to get back to it. Just picking up something annoying again is half the battle!👊 You know I always enjoy your messages and I am thrilled to hear that anything I’ve done is helpful. Wheeee! That makes me happy!😃👍💕
Hi Viv, thank you for this video, it will be very helpful. Love your teaching style. I aleays get stuck on fitting, maybe one day you will do a fitting vid? Hope you feel better soon x
Hi Sara! Thanks so much for leaving this nice comment.🌸 I think I should try making a fitting video -. not sure how helpful it would be but I have had a few requests for one.👍I appreciate your well wishes; I’m hanging in.
Vivmom Sews I am a relative beginner. I can sew and follow a pattern but find fitting a nightmare! It would be great to see how an experienced sewist goes about it. X
You're beautiful regardless! Thanks for sharing, and we all can learn from each other, no two people do things exactly the same. I hope you're feeling better after your dental surgery. I need work done but I'm putting it off.
Hi darling Dee,🌸thanks for writing this and you are so right: we can all learn from each other. I have gained so much knowledge from my fellow seamstresses (and seamsters)! Sorry to read that you need to see the dentist. I can’t even with dental work and this latest procedure has been a doozy. But I’m doing everything I can to stay positive. I wish you perfect teeth and happy sewing!💕👍
You looked great!!! Hope you feel better soon... Since I've not a clue how to sew.. all I heard was charlie browns teacher.. Whaaa whaaa whaa.. Hehehe.. But i still enjoyed it.. 😁 cant wait to see the dress... So i hope the more I watch the more I'll learn..
This is so funny, Pamela! I can hear that whaaa whaaa whaaaa whaaa whaaa from Charlie Brown.😂 I’m so happy you’re watching my videos and enjoying them!👍Do you want to sew garments? I hope I can help you a wee bit towards that goal if so!😃
@@vivmomsews4962 yesssss i would love to sew clothes.. I have a sewing machine and tried a vest pattern a few years ago It turned out ok.. But reading the patterns and cutting out the right ones and lining them up .. Holy smokes ,so i give up and go saddle up one of my horses and ride and think to myself .. Ya big baby go back and try again and i just ignore myself.. Lol constant battle but now watching your videos it gave me the sewing bug and want to find an easy pattern and at least try again... 😁
Ok, if I had a horse/horses to ride I don’t think I’d ever come back inside the house again. lol. That sounds glorious!! As far as pattern envelopes, a whole lot of the teeny tiny print can be bypassed. I’ll do a video about pattern envelopes and getting a project onto the table and under the machine. That’s our goal anyway, right?! Thanks for your great comments!😄
Hi Charlene, thanks for writing! I predict that one day you’ll love putting in sleeves. Sometimes I tell myself I love sewing tasks that I really loathe...and if I tell myself often enough it kind of does a brain switch. It’s true! Anyway, you’re so nice to ring in.💕🌸
Hi Laurie! I’m always so embarrassed about my hands. I’ve had a lifelong nail biting habit, and then when I’m able to grow them out, I pick at the cuticles. Arrrgh!! Plus my hands are so veiny and gangly. Your message is so sweet, thank you!!💕
Hi vivmom can you please show how to cut the pattern and sew i have so many pattren and where do you buy your fabric from just to get an idea i love your channel I would love to see more videos in detail please i want to sew for my daughter your video is really helpful
Thanks for all your interest, Saima! I’m new to making how-to videos but I will try.😃👍 Most of my fabric comes from online stores like Mood, Fabric Mart, Fashion Fabrics Club, Stylish Fabrics...and more. Lots to choose from! Some Walmarts have sewing and fabric departments.
Viv, I do something similar. I set my machine on a basting stitch and the tension high. The tension setting will depend on how gathered I want the seam.
I've used this same method of easing, but I tend to pin like crazy and baste the sleeve in by machine. I usually get a tuck or two but the basting is easy to rip out, so it's easy to correct. I really should try the hand basting method because it's really would be so much more precise. You were very brave to use the polyester for your tutorial, but it does help us see that it can be done. My dental hygienist called me the the "queen of root canals," so I can relate to your pain; it's not fun. I'll pray for healing and a return to good health.
I bow to the Queen of Root Canals!! Yikes, you’re a strong soul. Thanks for your wonderful comments, Nadine.😄👍I so appreciate your prayers.💕I pin like crazy, too. People swear by Wonderclips - do you ever use them? I haven’t tried them yet.
It's funny that you should ask that. I keep hearing about them everywhere; so many people seem to adore them! I have some miniature clothespins from eons ago that I've used for faux leather and such, but those clips look like they would be ideal. I think now is the perfect time for me to take the plunge. I'll try to find some tomorrow, and I'll share my opinions with you when you post your next video.
I like your crimping technique! Hope you feel better soon. I have been trying to catch up on watching UA-cam, as I had a spider bite that put me out of commission for 2 weeks! Spider bite in MN? Go figure......
Oh no, Connie, not a spider bite. I am horrified to hear this!! So sorry that happened to you.☹️ I’m glad you were able to watch tonight and liked that crimping action!😃👍 There will be a video coming on how that’s done for those who might not know. I’m going to remember you in my prayers tonight, wishing you a speedy and full recovery!💕
A million times 'THANK YOU'. This was so helpful, your fabric is so adorable, I would of never thought of using that. Also, I have one heck of a time using pinking shears, I feel like I am always going to cut the seam . Could you make a video using those darn things?
Hi Patti, I agree that pinking shears are rather daunting - they’re so BIG. And I have one of the worst pairs on the planet. I do not recommend buying cheap ones at Walmart. I can certainly show using them but I don’t know if it would shed much light. Hey! I just thought of something! I can now justify getting some new ones!😄👍 Thank you!!💕🌸
HI. HELLO. 😁😀💜 VIV GREAT IDEA TO DEMONSTRATE SEWING. TECHNICS. . REALLY GOOD FOR ANY SEWER A BEGINNER OR EXPERIENCED . ALWAYS GOOD TO SEE HOW OTHER PEOPLE DO THINGS Signing off Scott's wife Vickie 👩🎤
Thank you and I too would like to see what crimping is all about. When I sew the seam I start at the front notch and sew around, past the back notch and the front notch again and finish at the back notch. This way I reinforce the underarm at the same time. Feel better soon lovely woman.
Hey, nice method you have there for sleeve sewing, Jenny!👍😄 I hope to do a crimping video very soon. Thank you for your well wishes, you make me smile!💕🌸
Both ways are perfectly acceptable - it’s really personal preference. I think I saw a video with Nancy Zieman demo’ing the sleeve-up and I’ve been using it almost exclusively these days, so thought I’d share. I’m so happy that it’s been a helpful video. Thank you for letting me know, cristina!😃👍
yes Please! I've never heard of this technique and I'd love to see how you do it. I love your dress, I have this pattern and it is in my que to make soon,
Me too, I’d love to see the crimp technique demonstration 😁 love your videos and I have the same pattern as well, was hoping to see it up soon but it may be spring 🤷🏼♀️
Even sick you look fabulous. I've learned much from you in this tutorial. What was the pressing aid called? A ham hock? I want one but I'm sure I shouldn't head to the butcher's.
Hahahhaha! A pressing ham. And why it’s called that, I don’t know! Does it look like a ham?? Uhhhhhh...maybe after several glasses of champagne or something..??!!

Thank you Carolyn! I posted a short video last week and am working on another fashion show!😃
wonderful teacher, thanks for all your lessons
Excellent tutorial. I'm so glad to learn how to crimp instead of gathering 2 rows. I'm self taught from the 70's and had never heard of that.
Well done Vivian! Really you need to do more instructional videos. You’re a great patient teacher!😃👏🏼
We all have our off days, and you don’t look that bad. You still look fabulous.... 🌹❤️🌹❤️
👏👏👏 excellent reminder of the good ole basics with tips! Sew, press, repeat... so important!
Hi jj, nice to find your message. The basics! Our sewing backbones. Pressing is a biggie, isn’t it? I am really glad that you enjoyed this video, thank you for writing and your cheerful emojis!😄👍
I LOVE LOVE LOVE sewing tutorials. Ty Viv. I hope you feel better!
You can do it, Denise. I always say, “show that fabric who’s boss.”👊Nothing to fear - plunge ahead and come up winning!😃
Very helpful, thank you so much 💓 I love how honest you are, that you are so comfortable just being yourself on camera. Love your videos.
Love your sewing videos. You are so easy to understand. I put in my first sleeve because of this video! Thank you so much. More sewing videos PLEASE!! Btw. You did good camera work sewing and taping. Kudos
Sorry you're feeling poorly. Love the tutorial. Can't wait to see the finished dress.
Appreciate this video! I had no idea double notches were always in the back! Hey Lady, don't be critical of your videos. You do great! Thank you for your efforts!
Thank you, Maureen!💕You’re so nice to write to me and say these things. I appreciate it. Positive feedback is a gift!! 🎁
Hi maureen, me either! We learn something new everyday
Lovely to hear this, Andrea! Thank you for writing. Glad the videos have assisted you.😄🌸
I’m going to work on my pressing, okay? 😂. Don’t stop being you. It was a good reminder for me to use my iron more.
I’m a Presser from way back, Kelly!😃👍Glad to hear this little video was a good reminder for you. I am blown away by these positive reactions. Thank you for taking the time to write!🌸💕
Love the print, love the colors.
Another great video Viv. Don’t apologize for your videos - they are fun, informative and let your personality shine thru. Well done!
Well, my dear, you are a peach. 🌸 Thank you Rhonda, for this lovely message that is making me feel downright great. And I’ll take some “great” after a week of lousy. I will also endeavor to be less critical of my videos - eek, that’s going to take some effort!😂
Happy Monday Viv. Hope this week is better for you!
Sorry to hear you had a rough week, hope you're feeling better soon. Thanks for your informative video. Keep smiling !
Thanks, Ria! I need that reminder to keep smiling.😃👍 I am also glad that you enjoyed the video. I wasn’t sure about the helpfulness angle, so I’m really pleased that you think it was.💕
Thank you. Great tips. You are gorgeous! I love your attitude 😊
Thank you so much for this tutorial, I hope we will see lots more tutorials in future x I also hope you have recovered from the dental surgery!!
Oh Mel, it’s been a road. And not a smooth one!! I am almost back to 100, some pesky residual side effects that are clearing. Thanks for all the lovely well wishes and compliments. Makes me happy!😃🌸
Great instruction video. I appreciate you sharing your skills. I learned something!
Thank you for writing!💕Glad you’re here.😃
You are so wonderful! This has been a personal problem for me: setting in sleeves.
Wicked stuff, that dental surgery! Glad you’re better!
You said it, NK! Bring on the clear skies ahead. 🌞
Great video and lesson! You looked great too.
Thank you, Kris. Sheesh, it’s been a bad week. I am blessed to have all my sewing pals.😄💕
I really enjoyed this tutorial. Can't wait to see the dress when it's all done. So sorry you are having problems with the dental work. Hope it gets better for you soon.
Thank you so much, Eljay. So happy the tutorial was helpful! I’m hanging in with the dental woes -uh, I mean work. Your kind sympathy means a lot.💕🌸
Hi there! Thank you for this video! How helpful! Blessings!
Thanks, Kate! 😃And you’re right about laying off the apologies. I am really looking forward to feeling better!👍
This is a great technique! I haven’t tried this one before but, plan to! Sorry you’ve been under the weather... I said a quick prayer you will feel better ASAP!
Thank you so much, Diann! 🌸 How thoughtful. I am unbelievably happy to hear that this video was helpful. You’re a sweetheart for writing.😃👍
You did an AWESOME JOB! Thank you. Happy Sewing
Hi Dara👋! Didn’t want to miss this - you’re always a treat. Thank you, thank you!💕🌸
Hello from Essex in the UK, really love watching your videos as they inspire me to sew more. This was so helpful and easy to understand, thankyou!
How wonderful to hear this, from Essex UK no less!😄I am so glad you enjoyed this, Rhonda. You know I’m thrilled to hear that you’re inspired to sew!🌸💕
Thanks for the crimping videos! I have only basted before this. I can't wait to try this!
I hope you feel better soon. I love your videos and look forward to them.
Thank you, Francine.🌸Your words are so kind. I really appreciate what you’ve said, it inspires me to get busy with a new video!😄👍
I never heard of the crimping technique before! Id like to try it!
Love your videos and look forward to them when they arrive. If possible could you maybe show how you crimped your sleeve head I have never heard of this technique before.
I know there probably will be videos out there, but would love to see how you do it.
Hope everything settles down with the dental surgery soon :)
I see you follow Debbie from Saturday Sewing she is so lovely.
Aw, many thanks O.S.💕I do need to make a clip of the crimping technique. It’s a winner!
I just heard you mentioned in crystalsewsandstuff's video 'Big Four Pattern Stash Dresses' and I got SO excited for you. Love it, SMOOCH
Aw, Stephanie, thanks so much! I grabbed that smooch and it made me happy. Been a rough week. Glad to hear from you.😄👍
Love love love all of your videos!
this was a great video and very helpful to me- more like this
I love the sewing class!
Yay! Thanks for being a part of it!👍💐
Great demo, Viv.
😄🌸
Great job and a very nice tutorial too!
Thank you, Myra!😃🌸
Thank you so much! Have to do this for the first time today 😬
Hello Sandra! Thanks for your recent messages. I miss everyone and hope to be back within the month.😄
You are so hard on yourself. The things you say and how you look are just fine. I promise you.
I agree, there is more than one way to do it. I have to thank you for these videos, you've got me back into sewing garments again!!
That is so wonderful to hear! Thanks so much for coming back and telling me.😄👍
This was great hope you get to feeling better
Aw, you are so sweet Gail.🌸I need to improve quite a bit, and I was nervous to post this video, but everyone has been so nice so far!! Thank you!😄
You did an awesome tutorial!
So happy you’re here!👏
Vivmom Sews 🤗
Great tutorial, don’t be so hard on yourself everything looks fine! :)
Thank you, Sue, these are generous words. I appreciate it.😄👍
AHa crimping I learned something new after many years of sewing thankyou
This is a great video. Some fabrics are jars to work with because they are slippery. Joy Barnhardt has a great video on different techniques for putting in sleeves.
“Jars to work with” is a new one to me. Thanks Brigitte! There are so many good videos out there. I hope this one adds to the edification.😄
Vivmom Sews wow it sounds like I was crazy😂 what I meant was Hard to work with. Yes , I think it is a great tutorial! It was easy to understand and easy you Cody’s see well. Keep it up.
Haha, I thought it was some kind of local
vernacular!😄😄 Thanks for the reply.
You look fabulous Viv - even though you're poorly. Hope you're feeling better soon. Great video x
Thanks, Kathie. I’m a goof for mentioning how I look, but it’s been a rough week.👎 Back to the dental surgeon tomorrow for the 5th time since the extraction. Enough already!! I appreciate your well wishes so much. Are you due for surgery soon? I’m thinking of you.🌸
@@vivmomsews4962 Five times! Sheesh - that's waaay too much dentist time! Mine is next Monday. Will be so happy when it's done!
I have that pattern and can't wait to see your finished dress! That fabric is lovely!
Yay, I hope you make it and love it, Terri! The neckline was a tad challenging for me. Let me know how yours goes! Thank you thank you thank you for watching & writing.💕👍😃
Hope you feel better real soon!
Aw, bless you Cherri, thanks.😃🌸
Great video Viv! Love it! What a wonderful tutorial for beginners!
You dearheart, thanks for saying this! I am so nervous to post a tutorial. Your comment was the first one I saw after posting, and you really made me smile.💕👍😄
You still look good although being under the weather dear , hope you feel better ASAP😘
Pls pls do more of these specific tutorials. Yr simple practical explanation is VERY APPRECIATED 💕🌸😋
You made me want to get back to my project which has given me grief since I started it four days ago 😂
But here comes VIVMOM from USA and with her positive vibes that reached Europe.....and Viola! I am back to my project 😘
Pls when u can do show how to crimp while sewing the fabric through the Sewing Machine 😍
THANK YOU 🙏
Aw, thank you Aurora!
I have a sewing machine and tried a vest pattern a few years ago
It turned out ok..
@@vivmomsews4962 that would be fantastic!!!!! Thankyou 😊
Very helpful! i hate setting in sleeves and will try your crimping technique next time. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Charlene, thanks for writing! I predict that one day you’ll love putting in sleeves. Sometimes I tell myself I love sewing tasks that I really loathe...and if I tell myself often enough it kind of does a brain switch. It’s true! Anyway, you’re so nice to ring in.💕🌸
If I absolutely love that you are going without fingernail polish today. That makes you one of us.
Nice, Barbara, thanks for the tension tip.👍Isn’t crimping great? Honestly, it changed my sewing. Glad you’re here!🌸
I've used this same method of easing, but I tend to pin like crazy and baste the sleeve in by machine.
I’m going to remember you in my prayers tonight, wishing you a speedy and full recovery!💕
great video
Thank you so much, 4susierae!🌸😃
A million times 'THANK YOU'. This was so helpful, your fabric is so adorable, I would of never thought of using that. Also, I have one heck of a time using pinking shears, I feel like I am always going to cut the seam . Could you make a video using those darn things?
Hi Patti, I agree that pinking shears are rather daunting - they’re so BIG. And I have one of the worst pairs on the planet. I do not recommend buying cheap ones at Walmart. I can certainly show using them but I don’t know if it would shed much light. Hey! I just thought of something! I can now justify getting some new ones!😄👍 Thank you!!💕🌸
Tried the gathering technique and it works great!
Great tips, thanks
Hi Lisa, thanks so much!😄🌸

Thank you and I too would like to see what crimping is all about. When I sew the seam I start at the front notch and sew around, past the back notch and the front notch again and finish at the back notch. This way I reinforce the underarm at the same time. Feel better soon lovely woman.
Hey, nice method you have there for sleeve sewing, Jenny!👍😄 I hope to do a crimping video very soon. Thank you for your well wishes, you make me smile!💕🌸
Thanks Viv, I never seem to know if you should sew with the sleeve facing up or down.
Can you please make a video of the crimping technique? I can’t seem to imagine that. Thank you for your very helpful instructions.
Sure, Kris, that can be arranged! Thank you for writing and telling me this was helpful. I so appreciate it!!😄👍
Ditto. I would live to see the crimping done! Thank you. Great video
I always end up with pleats! LoL hence my love for raglan and dolman
You look fine, love that dress!!!
