You’re very welcome Ms. Viv! I would suggest something from “Wardrobe By Me“. I made their cargo shorts in two different versions for my hubby. One was the actual cargo shorts and the other was a pair of shorts (actually two pair) of plain shorts with no cargo pockets. The pattern instructions were very clear and well illustrated! Hi Christina! I’m waiting for my Christmas spirit to kick in...so far, nothing! Maybe it’s denial. It’s a fast ride from Thanksgiving to Christmas and everyone runs around in a frenzy. Kind of loses focus of the whole point, but it is what it is. I’ve told the family we will have less gifts this year for Christmas and a quieter time, but I’ve been saying this for 15 years. At some point I will join the fray and start my own running around, wrapping, decorating and humming Christmas carols and hymns. For now, sewing! Thank you for writing and watching!💕

I just appreciate everything you’ve said and it’s making me smile!! I’m so happy you liked the garments. I think these are some good practical pieces and that’s the direction I’m trying to go in. Of course, will I ever cross the Great Jeans Frontier?? I bought a Vogue jeans pattern so perhaps someday... As for the men’s clothes, I’m blessed to have a husband who not only likes them but wears them! It was funny, with the zip-up pullover I was madly finishing it before he had to catch a plane. I cut the last threads on it and he quickly put it on as his ride to the airport pulled up. Talk about just finishing in time! I’ll definitely be sewing more clothes for him - we haven’t seen the last of his modeling, lol.

Hi Debbie! I’ll tell you something, I kind of botched the Christmas dress. Here’s why: I had to make the waist bigger (sigh) so I left out the waist darts. Then I had to change the skirt part, and I didn’t make it large enough to gather well. (Is this making sense?) I think the skirt needs more gathers - and trust me, this is a sentence I never thought I’d write - because it seems a little flat at the sides. Nothing sadder than flat gathers!! So for you to compliment it so generously is really sweet of you! Thank you. I want to embrace more fitted styles. Next time I won’t botch the gathering. (This dumb autocorrect keeps making “gathering” into “fathering.” That would be quite a feat for me to botch!!)

Hi Julie, yeah I think I need to cut off about 1.5” of fabric at the top of my pants. I’m in Ed Grimley territory with how high up they come!! I usually end up folding them over, so I should just whittle some off. If you can find a men’s top pattern that you like it’s a blast to sew for them! Christmas presents would be fabulous. I have had a hard time finding masculine fabric, though. It’s strange. Thanks so much for writing!

Christmas dress is nice...cars dress cute and whimsical... pineapple top is also cute...hubby is sweet to model for you... I have T shirt patterns from infant to Godzilla sizes....made T-shirts for my oldest boys as teens and everyone else when younger...one of my grandsons is 6'4".and I made his tank tops when he was ateen....he preferred my tops..right now have to put some things in storage and donate s lot..my home wasn't wheelchair friendly...no seeing til after Christmas...first year without my two oldest...gets a little easier as time goes by....think I ll do the yoked t shirt..won't be hard to draft a pattern..Happy Holidays
Oh Gale, you’ve touched on many things here. Of course, your sewing for all those males in your life has been wonderful and memorable. I laughed at “infant to Godzilla sizes” - that about covers it! My husband is 6’4”, too! I am hoping you’re doing all right. I think of you and this long road to recovery that you’ve been on. And a Christmas without certain loved ones coming home is hard. It happens to all of us moms and dads (and brothers and sisters) and we can’t change a lot of things, so we seek flexibility and joy amidst the “shifting sands of time.” I hope the holidays are peaceful and happy despite.
Wow, you’ve been really busy. I was most impressed by what a trooper your husband is; his tops were all great. As to your garments, my favorite was probably your Christmas dress. That lace belt made it just adorable. The denim dress was rather super cute, too, and that fleece jacket is perfect for our upcoming weather. I also liked the pineapple fabric much better made up than I had expected to. Mixing the colors worked well. And yes, you did get a great fit with both of your pants. Hi Nadine, what a wonderful note you’ve written to me. Thanks! I did have to do some tweaking on the pants to make the waist bigger. Ugh. The hip size puts me in a 12 and I have to make that waist bigger. My goal in 2019 should be to get down to a true size 12 pants so that I don’t have to keep fiddling. (Yeah, don’t hold your breath.) I am so charmed that you like the Christmas dress! It’s a little “Donna Reed” to me but of course I love Donna Reed and the vintage vibe. Love all your makes and so happy I found your channel. You are a treasure. Many of your makes have either raglan or dropped shoulder sleeves which look great on you. However, not for me because my shoulders are so narrow and my bust size is small. Love it when you use set in sleeves. More my style.

Vivmom Sews Thanks, I will do that. That is a good way but I also like to use interfacing from ties. It is cut on the bias and so far it has eased my sleeves in beautifully.

Husband likes his new tops and has worn the zip-up several times. Christmas dress is a little uncertain for me; I need to acclimate to the style. Always new roads to travel in sewing!

Thank you Annette, so generous! I was going for some practical, wearable pieces - so only one party dress this go-round. I think it’s okay for the holidays but wouldn’t have a place in my day to day life. They all wore shirt dresses back in the 50’s! Every day, I guess! Wow - different times, and I’m thankful we can choose to wear just about anything we’d like now. The neckline on my Christmas dress is a wee bit too high. If I make it again, I’ll have to keep that in mind. Thank you again for your compliments!
In a previous video you mentioned colorblocking those 2 pineapple fabrics and I was skeptical of how it would look. So I must comment that you were right - that top is beautiful and I would wear it - the 2 color ways look great together!

I’m not nearly as trim and glamorous as those women from the 50’s...how in God’s name were their waists so tiny?!!! The cars dress is more my speed (pardon the pun) - pure comfort! You’re very welcome Ms. Viv! I would suggest something from “Wardrobe By Me“. I made their cargo shorts in two different versions for my hubby. One was the actual cargo shorts and the other was a pair of shorts (actually two pair) of plain shorts with no cargo pockets. The pattern instructions were very clear and well illustrated! It’s fine for the holidays, though.) I did have a productive month - they don’t all go that way. And now I feel quite behind with the Thanksgiving cooking. Hmm, do you think that sitting here with 200 patterns on my lap has anything to do with that??

Hi Christina! I’m waiting for my Christmas spirit to kick in...so far, nothing! Maybe it’s denial. It’s a fast ride from Thanksgiving to Christmas and everyone runs around in a frenzy. Kind of loses focus of the whole point, but it is what it is. I’ve told the family we will have less gifts this year for Christmas and a quieter time, but I’ve been saying this for 15 years. At some point I will join the fray and start my own running around, wrapping, decorating and humming Christmas carols and hymns. For now, sewing! Thank you for writing and watching!💕

I am flabbergasted by the response I’ve gotten, so many encouraging folks like yourself who generously cheer me on. It’s been so much fun. And yes - my husband is a gem for helping me out. I just appreciate everything you’ve said and it’s making me smile!! I’m so happy you liked the garments. I think these are some good practical pieces and that’s the direction I’m trying to go in. Of course, will I ever cross the Great Jeans Frontier?? I bought a Vogue jeans pattern so perhaps someday... As for the men’s clothes, I’m blessed to have a husband who not only likes them but wears them! It was funny, with the zip-up pullover I was madly finishing it before he had to catch a plane. I cut the last threads on it and he quickly put it on as his ride to the airport pulled up. Talk about just finishing in time! I’ll definitely be sewing more clothes for him - we haven’t seen the last of his modeling, lol.

Hi Debbie! I’ll tell you something, I kind of botched the Christmas dress. Here’s why: I had to make the waist bigger (sigh) so I left out the waist darts. Then I had to change the skirt part, and I didn’t make it large enough to gather well. (Is this making sense?) I think the skirt needs more gathers - and trust me, this is a sentence I never thought I’d write - because it seems a little flat at the sides. Nothing sadder than flat gathers!! So for you to compliment it so generously is really sweet of you! Thank you. I want to embrace more fitted styles. Next time I won’t botch the gathering. (This dumb autocorrect keeps making “gathering” into “fathering.” That would be quite a feat for me to botch!!)

Someone thought my blue caftan dress at the start of the video is pretty unflattering, and it does look like a prison dress in a way (that’s what she called it) but I love it!! I absolutely love weird dresses like that. To each his own. You are so sweet to like the Christmas dress. Hi Julie, yeah I think I need to cut off about 1.5” of fabric at the top of my pants. I’m in Ed Grimley territory with how high up they come!! I usually end up folding them over, so I should just whittle some off. If you can find a men’s top pattern that you like it’s a blast to sew for them! Christmas presents would be fabulous. I have had a hard time finding masculine fabric, though. It’s strange. Thanks so much for writing!

Christmas dress is nice...cars dress cute and whimsical... pineapple top is also cute...hubby is sweet to model for you... I have T shirt patterns from infant to Godzilla sizes....made T-shirts for my oldest boys as teens and everyone else when younger...one of my grandsons is 6'4".and I made his tank tops when he was ateen....he preferred my tops..right now have to put some things in storage and donate s lot..my home wasn't wheelchair friendly...no seeing til after Christmas...first year without my two oldest...gets a little easier as time goes by....think I ll do the yoked t shirt..won't be hard to draft a pattern..Happy Holidays
Oh Gale, you’ve touched on many things here. Of course, your sewing for all those males in your life has been wonderful and memorable. I laughed at “infant to Godzilla sizes” - that about covers it! My husband is 6’4”, too! I am hoping you’re doing all right. I think of you and this long road to recovery that you’ve been on. And a Christmas without certain loved ones coming home is hard. It happens to all of us moms and dads (and brothers and sisters) and we can’t change a lot of things, so we seek flexibility and joy amidst the “shifting sands of time.” I hope the holidays are peaceful and happy despite.

Wow, you’ve been really busy. I was most impressed by what a trooper your husband is; his tops were all great. As to your garments, my favorite was probably your Christmas dress. That lace belt made it just adorable. The denim dress was rather super cute, too, and that fleece jacket is perfect for our upcoming weather. I also liked the pineapple fabric much better made up than I had expected to. Mixing the colors worked well. And yes, you did get a great fit with both of your pants. Hi Nadine, what a wonderful note you’ve written to me. Thanks! I did have to do some tweaking on the pants to make the waist bigger. Ugh. The hip size puts me in a 12 and I have to make that waist bigger. My goal in 2019 should be to get down to a true size 12 pants so that I don’t have to keep fiddling. (Yeah, don’t hold your breath.) I am so charmed that you like the Christmas dress! It’s a little “Donna Reed” to me but of course I love Donna Reed and the vintage vibe. Our styles are so similar!!! My sister is going to take a few of the patterns (gave her most of my stash several years ago and she said she felt too overwhelmed when she saw how many I had... What can I say, I'm a patteraholic... LOL. My sister left today for Virginia, she's spending Christmas with her daughter and family. As soon as she pulled out of the garage I started decorating the house; for some reason she has an aversion to screw holes in the wall... Oh well, C'est la vie.... Judy

These patterns really were all winners - a minor hiccup here and there (pocket linings and understitching questions on the coat, and a temporary zipper puzzlement on the pullover) but in the end, I think I will wear everything quite a bit. This isn’t always the case, so I’m moving in the right direction! I’m glad you’re here and I am grateful for your support.

Love all your makes and so happy I found your channel. You are a treasure. Many of your makes have either raglan or dropped shoulder sleeves which look great on you. However, not for me because my shoulders are so narrow and my bust size is small. Love it when you use set in sleeves. More my style.

Time to check the envelope a little more closely. I love set in sleeves. Check out my tips on crimping for a set in sleeve - it was a total game changer for me!😄👍
Vivmom Sews Thanks, I will do that. That is a good way but I also like to use interfacing from ties. It is cut on the bias and so far it has eased my sleeves in beautifully.

Oh thank you, Gaynor! I’m so glad you mentioned the 3 piece outfit - that thin-knit duster nearly did me in! But I was determined to finish it and now I like it. But sweater knit? Surely they jest. Husband likes his new tops and has worn the zip-up several times. Christmas dress is a little uncertain for me; I need to acclimate to the style. Always new roads to travel in sewing!

Thank you Annette, so generous! I was going for some practical, wearable pieces - so only one party dress this go-round. I think it’s okay for the holidays but wouldn’t have a place in my day to day life. They all wore shirt dresses back in the 50’s! Every day, I guess! Wow - different times, and I’m thankful we can choose to wear just about anything we’d like now. The neckline on my Christmas dress is a wee bit too high. If I make it again, I’ll have to keep that in mind. Thank you again for your compliments!
In a previous video you mentioned colorblocking those 2 pineapple fabrics and I was skeptical of how it would look. So I must comment that you were right - that top is beautiful and I would wear it - the 2 color ways look great together!
