Hi, Vic! UA-cam sent me your channel and I’ve watched and enjoyed several of your earliest videos. You are so real! I have a suggestion for why why why fabrics. Save them in a special box for future grandchildren to play with. This red would make a great super hero cape! You wouldn’t even have to sew it. Just clip two corners together. Now, back to binging! Sewing vicariously. You do all the work, LOL.
Are you a spring in colors. Try using red as your accent color. Or theme of red white and blue , navy. Sleeves on a white top and navy pants. Just so. Not near you face. The white at the neck would be great. Be sure and use you favorite loose pattern and flowing sleeve. Loved your haul. I just asked my husband to take me to Pennsylvania for fabric but we are too far away. You are very blessed to live so close
Hi Barbara, thanks for writing. We are planning to road trip to Pennsylvania again this summer to visit Fabric Mart, hooray! It’s an all day affair so we’re not exactly close - but closer than many, I’m sure!😃I’ve never paid much attention to the color palette thing; I wear what I like. If it washes me out, oh well. Doesn’t matter to me!
I was glad to see some solid colors!! I’m not really fond of a lot of prints and all the U Tube sewing videos are all prints!! They look lovely on you, however I’m bigger and sometimes feel even bigger in a busy print!! Love your videos-your closet must be huge!! You really know the styles that suit you!
Ok. Since finding your channel the other day, I believe I have now binge watched them all. Very entertaining. Funny. Informative. I especially appreciate your honesty that not every pattern is great. And I love the tour of your home. Subscribing. Thank you.
Hi Vivmom. I just found your channel and think you're delightful. Love your sense of humor. My sewing style is much like yours-Big 4 patterns and casual clothing to fit my lifestyle. Happy sewing!
Laura Jones Hi Laura, so nice to find this message from you! I definitely sew comfortable casual to fit my lifestyle; my party dresses don't get out much, lol. Do you have a favorite Big 4 line? I also enjoy New Look and Kwik Sew - call it Big 6. I'm glad you're here! This is a brand new venture for me and every view & comment are greatly appreciated!
Simplicity & McCall's are favorites, but I also like New Look and have seen some Kwik Sew I like. Love the pattern sales at JoAnn's & Hobby Lobby. I made S1106 -wasn't sure I'd like it but I want to make another. If you can, list your patterns in the description box below your videos. Also, do the Seamstress Tag & the 5 Questions/1 Take tag from Lisa of And Sew On so viewers can learn more about you. Looking forward to seeing your makes..:)
Hi vivian, I am fan and I have laught when you said about your Daughter's anecdote and your new pant... the same for me with mine, ! thanks a lot, and very soon for July makes, I am sure very nice job despite complicated patterns ! bizzz, sylvie (France)
Boulevard Du Fil Hello Sylvie in France, how nice to find you here! I am so happy that you are watching and enjoying!😃😃 See you soon - not for real, but I'd love to visit France!
I absolutely LOVE the red fabric! I have TONS of triple why fabric. Weirdly my mates always choose them when they want me to make them something. So that way I get shut of them!
I LOVE love that sheer light sweater fabric, that pattern is totally perfect for that. Oh, you have the same kit I have that green and blue. Awww sorry about the fabric 😩. That red could be a cardigan or another of the top you're making with the brown.
When you get dye transfer, just wash it again, but buy some color catchers from the grocery store and toss them in the wash machine. It should take all that dye transfer out of your fabrics. It’s worth a try anyways!
Viv, I love that you can SEE your fabric! Some keep their fabric in dark plastic bins. That means you'd be hauling that out all the time, pondering what to use. We ponder enough...
Those pants are adorable. How do you find out about the sales at Hobby Lobby? One of my favorite things about sewing is new pattern challenges like you try. Keep developing your skills! Simplicity 4789 is my kind of pattern. Your wonderful, each season has new designs to try, love how you get fabrics and the way you match up a top or pants or dress for it. Good job! Make the succulents into a pant or 3/4 pant - also could be a layered skirt. Ok for the red why fabric, make a camisole for underneath things. Also, on spots from other fabric: either white vinagar, or Fels Naptha - both work great. Rit the dye company has something too, but it more covered up than removed the stain.
Oh thank you, Maren! I usually check the HL weekly ad on Sundays. (They’re closed Sundays but run the ad for the upcoming week.) I actually got some Fels Naptha as it was recommended by some other viewers and it works well! I appreciate all your suggestions.😃
I love the triple WHY fabric you show here. Why not make a vest like the one you made with the brown/black/cream mosaic design fabric. You would look great in that shade of red with a white T and jeans.
Aww, you’re a doll J. Thanks for going back in time and seeing these older ones... you’d think I would have gotten slick equipment and polished up the whole shebang by now, but...nope!🙄🤪
What a sweetheart you are, Lynda. Thank you for these compliments!😄 We all get inspiration from each other - that is the beauty of the sewing community. And if you love to sew, I’d say you’re incredible too!👍
You are so fun to have in my dining room while I sew today! Here's a thought....Dye your Why!! Why!!!!? Why??! fabric black. It is so easy or get the rit dye remover and bleach out the color to pink. Use it as an overlay for a mini skirt. You can also use it as insets.
Been sewing since I was abt 7 or 8 w/mom's help until she passed. I don't really have that many patterns because mom and I would put patterns together to make what we wanted.
Wow, you and your mom were a powerhouse sewing team, Tina! That’s fabulous. I’m sure you miss her terribly, like I miss my mom. You know what? I think they’re smiling down and cheering to see us sewing.💕Thank you for writing!
Enjoyed the video. The brown stripe would also look great as a long duster over your white pants. You could use the red for a lace insert on the back of a shirt.
I've made every view of S1106. It's a fun sew. I top stitched the bottom of the back yoke and both sides of the back inset. I do have that challis! It's in que for my cutting table right now! I also think I have the weird lycra! I think it came with a fabric bundle from Fabric Mart? Are they the ones who do the bundles? I loved seeing your new patterns and fabric, although I would not sew with the red, either. How about a sarong bathing suit cover up?
Stay Stitching Both of those fabrics came from FabricMart. I don't see anymore precuts for sale, though. Hope they didn't get rid of them - those were some super duper deals! You made every view of those tops?! Fab!! Can't wait to see your rayon challis creation!
What a great sale I can't wait to see the results you are an amazing seamstress and you really make it fun to watch you bouncing around trying on clothes very entertaining
Not sure how I missed this one when you first posted it, but I did. Anyway, have you tried Color Grabbers with those fabrics you think are ruined? I have yet to buy them but friends swear by them! I would try it on each fabric, washing separately with just the Color Grabber. Hope it works!
Before we moved into our current apartment, I went through a lot of fabric and donated a bunch,. Most of it fit into the three why's category, lol. When I first started buying fabric for garment sewing I bought a lot of duds! I was like, "why, why WHY, did I waste money on these awful fabrics??" Sometimes I bought stuff just because it was cheap or on sale. My taste has vastly improved since;) Now I rarely regret purchasing fabric (or maybe it's worth one "why", :) Fun haul Viv, I wish we still could get Simplicity in Canada. Though I have high hopes we will again since McCalls bought the company😬.
Rikki B Hi Rikki. You get it - the "whys"! It's amazing how the skill of buying fabric online evolves. I look back now and marvel at how little I knew! And online buying is part of the sewing deal nowadays - unless one lives near a fabric district. Wouldn't that be fun? Canada has FabricLand, right? Do you ever shop there? I hope you get Simplicity back soon too. I really love their patterns! (Especially at $1😃)
There is a product called Color Catcher and another called Color Graber that are similar to a dryer sheet but these go in the washing machine. Use them when you are worried about colors bleeding or in a re wash when the colors have already bled.
I am a new fan! I love you! I am learning from you! I sent your link to my daughter who has a sewing business. She responded with a video showing me a ballroom costume she created and I could see she was using your style of modeling for me! Nice to see your pretty face. 😊
I love the succulent fabric!!!! You could totally make a sleeveless button up shirt with it and it would be the essence of summer!! Also, The pants you are wearing in your video are the pants my mom just made for me, I wore mine out on an errand today and they are amazing!!! Love them. So, I'm having a thought about your crazy red lace... 4th of July is coming up, what if you made something like Simplicity 1113 with the body of the shirt blue, the lace inset and then white at the bottom.... That way you aren't wearing red really, you would be wearing America.
Sewing at Midnight Hahaha this is great - love your red lace idea! The pants rock. I seriously love them. Your blue pair is gorgeous. Button up shirt with the succulents? I like it! Thanks SAM! (Sewing At Midnight😃)
For the red maybe that new look short sleeved cardigan? Or for sleeves on a dress or top? It is pretty and would look nice on you. I have gotten lots of great fabrics from fabricmart too... have a lot of the same with some similar tastes to you:) thanks so much for sharing and inspiring us
Heather Thompson Isn't the inspiration we can pass around the best?! Thank you so much for watching, Heather, and for all of your good feedback. The red lacy fabric is definitely pretty - I like the idea of just a small bit colorblocked with something else that would be predominant. Yay FabricMart!!!
nothing to do with sewing although I do and love your videos-- you mentioned march madness and I am "one of those" wonder where you live ? also----LOVE the hair- if I can get a good shot of it- to take to my girl- thats how I want my bangs- my hair is waist length and white - yep white- but need the softness around the face -yours looks fabulous
You are so funny! A few seconds into your video I was laughing and hitting the subscribe button. Maybe you could use the red "why" fabric for a pillow or gift craft for someone.
Just buy the Ritz color bleed product, and try that. I wonder if you could use your triple why as sleeves on a dress...like flutter sleeves or something...maybe on a navy or a black dress....or maybe not. I have a hard time picturing things..lol.
I have an idea for that absolutely gorgeous red 'why why why' fabric. Perhaps use it on top of another fabric, for 1 or 2 pattern pieces of a garment. For example, as a red overlay on gray cap sleeves, or red overlay on the collar. I also have a suggestion for your bird fabric with little blotchy stains. May or may not work. Soak it in oxyclean.
I have made a swimsuit back in the day for my sister. Never made work out pants. But that party dress is so pretty. When you are making a coat, do you upsize it? That zipper might keep me away these days.
I buy cottons from “Thousands of Bolts”. Most cottons are $4.95 a yard. They have sheets you can put in washer and it sucks up the die so it doesn’t get on your fabric.
I have an idea for the triple why fabric. I would make a long vest with a tie at the the waist and use it to layer with jeans and a tee shirt- You would look great in that color by the way
Charlene Jutras This is another great idea! I love it, thanks Charlene!😃 (Maybe I should just wear some red. Thanks for saying I would look good in it!)
Hi Pamela, nope, I never made them! In fact I made a tunic out of the green & brown Lycra fabric (there’s a construction video for that if you’re curious) so it’s not available anymore for exercise wear. I do have more Lycra fabrics though. I should make them!!
Succulants ! Yes ! Maybe use your "Why why why" red as an accent scarf...just finish the edges and throw it over your shoulders. I have a bolt of triple WHY...turquoise and kind of stretchy. Had a plan for it years ago, but forgot. Love your happy personality.
Aww, thanks Nancy! I’m enjoying your comments so much. That bright red lacy fabric was such a stumper. Lesson learned (for me): don’t buy fabric just because it’s a great price. I tried to make a sash out of the lace for my Christmas dress and there again we have pretty much of a fail. Lace isn’t a tie. It was too bright. I like your idea of throwing it over my shoulders! Or maybe throw it out the window??😂
I bought an orange batik cotton fabric which I thought was very pretty. But, I had bought a pattern for some tops and now I wonder if this fabric is wrong for tops because it has no or very little stretch. I am new to all this and I just don't know much about picking fabrics for clothes. I have sewn before, but I quilt, or make purses, totes, crafts etc. I have only made one shirt and it was a tank and it came out very pretty, but didn't fit me (too small). I want to try again with the Newlook pattern I bought. You made a top with the same pattern in one of your videos. What do you suggest for this orange batik cotton fabric?
Ok, look on the back of the pattern envelope on the edge. If it has a little ruler line with an arrow, and says “fabric must stretch from here to here,” then you know you have a pattern for knits and the orange batik will not work. Patterns for woven fabrics that do not stretch, like your cotton batik, have design elements like zippers or button closures so that you can get in and out of the garment, and they are sized with no stretching in mind. So it’s really best to stick with the correct fabric choices, and the pattern companies will also give you a list of suggested fabrics. You CAN interchange knits for wovens (and vice versa) but I wouldn’t advise it if you’re new to apparel sewing. Anything designed for woven non-stretch fabrics will look great with your orange batik, provided it’s the right drape and thickness for the garment. Tops and dresses can be less weighty than pants and jackets. It can be helpful to google images of the exact pattern number you’re using. Hope this helps a little bit. Keep in touch!😃👍
The red mesh might work with that pattern you showed, New Look #6565. I donate all triple why fabric unless it will work in quilt or tote bag or something of that nature.
Thanks Glenda! Great tips! I bought some Oxy Clean - haven't done the soaking. I'll keep my eye out for Awesome. Color catchers are great but I haven't seen them lately. I need to look harder.
Thanks Monica! I appreciate your thoughtfulness and you’re right: incorporated as a yoke detail it might not be half bad. I don’t mean to disparage the fabric, because it’s so pretty. It’s just so RED! Perfect for Christmas of course!
Hi Vivmom.. do you know the difference in new look patterns.. I’m curious..some are red envelop and some are green but they look the same to me... thanks
Yes - red and green are for misses clothes. It looks like red denote dresses, and green are separates - but this is just my best guess. Thanks for your interest!😃
I've had good luck getting out stains with Oxyclean. Soak your bird fabric a few hours and see if that helps. Nothing to lose at this point , right? I enjoy your videos.
I am buying Oxyclean TOMORROW. Thank you for this tip, Diane B...I sure do appreciate it!! I'll let you know if I have success. Thank you for watching & commenting!
HI. HELLO. 😁 VIV O. THAT GREEN FABRIC IS BOLD DID YOU EVER GET SOMETHING MADE FROM IT ? I LIKE THE PERSONAL TOUCHES YOU ADD ABOUT YOUR HUSBAND AND CHILDREN. IT IS ENJOYABLE. WELL WHAT ABOUT OCTOBER... DID YOU MAKE YOUR EXCURSION TO FABRIC MART IN PENNSYLVANIA? I SEE THAT YOUR WALLS ARE BROWN. NICE BUT THE YELLOW IS SOOO TOTALLY BEAUTIFUL. IT JUST SEEMS TO REFLECT YOUR UP BEAT PERSONALITY THANK YOU FOR SHARING THE TELLS OF MISHAPS. IT HELPS US WHO DO THEM MUCH MORE OFTEN Signing off Scott's wife Vickie 🦋
I sewed my wedding dress and all the bridesmaid dresses in 1969. Hope I can transfigure something this winter. Thanks for encouragement and inspiration
thestripeddaisy It IS pretty, isn't it? I should just wear RED! For some reason I feel like it would wash me out and make me look pale. Thanks stripeddaisy for your comments!😃
You've probably been asked this before so forgive me. I'm wondering how many yards you buy if you don't have a pattern in mind for the fabric you are purchasing.
Hi rosie, it’s all in my studio (former dining room)! OK, some of it is upstairs - the heavier winter fabrics and fleeces. I am giving myself a 10 year time goal to sew all of it up...and the clock started 2 years ago. We shall see! I might have half a chance if I didn’t keep BUYING MORE!! No website, no instagram, just little ol’ youtube for me.😄
Why why why red fabric would be a great bathing suit cover up or a super short sweater type coverlet top. Sorry I can’t think of the right word. Bolero
“The facings had facings…” LOL 😂 Hysterical! Love it!
the why, why, etc is a great idea!
Just discovered your channel. You are so talented and inspiring! Happy Holidays from Australia
The red…. I’d make a swimsuit cover up!! 🙂
Thank you.
I love the succulent fabric and the Missoni look knit.
Viv, wash it again. Maybe the spots will wash out. Good luck. With love.

I really love those crop pants! And the fabric choice is just lovely! Well done!
Crumpets, Tea, & Sewing - Tea Ray-Grover Thanks Tea!😃
I LOVE love that sheer light sweater fabric, that pattern is totally perfect for that. Oh, you have the same kit I have that green and blue. Awww sorry about the fabric 😩. That red could be a cardigan or another of the top you're making with the brown.
When you get dye transfer, just wash it again, but buy some color catchers from the grocery store and toss them in the wash machine. It should take all that dye transfer out of your fabrics. It’s worth a try anyways!
Wow! Thank you for mentioning this. I have never heard of color catchers.
Just found your channel. Love your sew and shows. Gets me motivated to sew. I am a beginner.

New to your channel. Enjoying your videos. Love your picks in fabrics and the patterns are what I look for too.love those from the 1960s.
We are kindred spirits, Michele, if you like 1960’s dress patterns!😍 Thank you for liking the videos, I’m happy you’re here.👍😄
I love the triple WHY fabric you show here. Why not make a vest like the one you made with the brown/black/cream mosaic design fabric. You would look great in that shade of red with a white T and jeans.
I am watching some of last years videos Vivmom...I LOVE the outfit you have on..so comfy!
Aww, you’re a doll J. Thanks for going back in time and seeing these older ones... you’d think I would have gotten slick equipment and polished up the whole shebang by now, but...nope!🙄🤪
You are incredible. Your eye is great. I can't do it but love to sew. Meaning I can't picture combination you did and they are great

Aww Patti, thank you! What a sweet thing to say. It gave me a lift just when I needed it!😄👍
You are so fun to have in my dining room while I sew today! Here's a thought....Dye your Why!! Why!!!!? Why??! fabric black. It is so easy or get the rit dye remover and bleach out the color to pink. Use it as an overlay for a mini skirt. You can also use it as insets.

Charlene Jutras This is another great idea! I love it, thanks Charlene!😃 (Maybe I should just wear some red. Thanks for saying I would look good in it!)
Did you ever make your workout pants? I bought the same pattern not done yet myself.
Hi Pamela, nope, I never made them! In fact I made a tunic out of the green & brown Lycra fabric (there’s a construction video for that if you’re curious) so it’s not available anymore for exercise wear. I do have more Lycra fabrics though. I should make them!!
Love the pants u r wearing! What kind of fabric did u use? I gotta get that pattern...
I love that pattern, Diane! But I haven’t made anything except the pants. The fabric is a stretch mauve cotton sateen. Thanks!
I’m crazy about fabric ❤️
Maybe if you put the bird fabric in washer with a couple of color guard. sheets it might get better.
Thank you. I will look at the pattern tomorrow and look for the ruler. I think I will be going fabric shopping lol
The red mesh might work with that pattern you showed, New Look #6565.
I donate all triple why fabric unless it will work in quilt or tote bag or something of that nature.
Can’t wait to see what they look like once the patterns are made up (your version anyway 😉)xx
Thank you, Kim. What a sweetheart!
Triple why red- I see an awesome little jacket. Weird blotchy stains- unicorn scour or over dye :)
Try peroxide or dawn on fabric
Try "Awesome " laundry booster from the Dollar Tree. Soak your bird fabric and wash again with color catchers.
Thanks Glenda! Great tips! I bought some Oxy Clean - haven't done the soaking. I'll keep my eye out for Awesome. Color catchers are great but I haven't seen them lately. I need to look harder.
Viv...your why, why,WHY fabric would look great incorporated as sheer yoke for a little black dress,3/4 sleeves, maybe for Christmas cocktail party.😉
Thanks Monica! I appreciate your thoughtfulness and you’re right: incorporated as a yoke detail it might not be half bad. I don’t mean to disparage the fabric, because it’s so pretty. It’s just so RED! Perfect for Christmas of course!
I've had a few 3 whys and it feels good to remove them from my sight whether a donation or rummage sale
Hi Vivmom.. do you know the difference in new look patterns.. I’m curious..some are red envelop and some are green but they look the same to me... thanks
Yes - red and green are for misses clothes. It looks like red denote dresses, and green are separates - but this is just my best guess. Thanks for your interest!😃
I love Eileen Fisher, too! Out of my budget, for sure.
I love the pants.
💕
October? Did you last?
I just wanted to say that I think red suits you very well, but I do understand about feeling uncomfortable in certain colors.
That red lace ought to be gifted to a winner who has big eyes, olive skin and midnight hair.
HI. HELLO. 😁 VIV
O. THAT GREEN FABRIC IS BOLD DID YOU EVER GET SOMETHING MADE FROM IT ?
I LIKE THE PERSONAL TOUCHES YOU ADD ABOUT YOUR HUSBAND AND CHILDREN. IT IS ENJOYABLE.
WELL WHAT ABOUT OCTOBER...
DID YOU MAKE YOUR EXCURSION TO FABRIC MART IN PENNSYLVANIA?

sandra henderson Welcome sandra! So glad you're here!😃
I sewed my wedding dress and all the bridesmaid dresses in 1969. Hope I can transfigure something this winter. Thanks for encouragement and inspiration
Cute pants!
Thanks so much, CJC!😄
I love that red lace fabric! Why don't you use it as top or dress overlay? You'd look fabulous!
thestripeddaisy It IS pretty, isn't it? I should just wear RED! For some reason I feel like it would wash me out and make me look pale. Thanks stripeddaisy for your comments!😃
You've probably been asked this before so forgive me. I'm wondering how many yards you buy if you don't have a pattern in mind for the fabric you are purchasing.
many thanks , I think I love you
Aw, thanks kiwinzer!😄
Hi you must have a warehouse full of material what do you do with that do you resell it do you have a website
No website, no instagram, just little ol’ youtube for me.😄
You’re so funny!
with the red make a tea jakit
Has happened to me, unfortunately it was the water .
make a nice infinity scarf with the red. and give as a gift.
Kimberly Sneden Hey that's a great idea! Thanks!😃
God,, you are such an attractive lady.
It annoys the hell out of me! Ha ha
Love you choices and your makes.
Thanks for sharing xxx
Well how sweet are you, Jackie Blakemore! Thank you so much! I’m flabbergasted!!😃
Why why why red fabric would be a great bathing suit cover up or a super short sweater type coverlet top. Sorry I can’t think of the right word. Bolero
If you get dye from another fabric, try spraying each spot🤪 with OXY clean pre wash spot treat. It takes out most of my bloopers
Why, why, why ? fabric would make a cute swimsuit coverup, no ? You will look great in the red !
Your hilarious! Love it.
I consider that high praise, Maureen! Huge fan of laughing. Thanks so much!!😄
