    .. it's beautiful. Bezel has the right shade of green. Watch is of the right size too, which is 39mm. Beautiful finishing of the strap; liked the case back cover. Good loom, good bezel alignment. I don't mind the 1.5x cyclop.

      @@watchreviews4k I've been wearing it for about a week. It's a fantastic watch, one of the best I've ever owned. I had a couple concerns. The first is that it just looks like I'm wearing a fake Rolex. But then I realized there are a tiny number of people on the planet who know and care about that, and they don't matter. The other concern is that I'm getting a watch that will not hold its value. I still think that's true, but for $485 it's not a huge deal and with a design this timeless and versatile, I'm not likely to want to get rid of it anytime soon anyway. In spite of those concerns, it is a superb quality and value, and I don't think I went wrong.

    I own 2 Rolex, An omega and some other high price watches. Bought the steinhart 39 green ceramic and was completely surprised how good the watch is made and feels. I don’t want to wait 10 years on the list for a green submariner, this Steinhart is a perfect alternative 👍 The only thing I think it would upgrade the watch is a glossy black dial..

      @@DoctorF1984 I am very happy with my Ocean 39 green ceramic - I prefer the ceramic over the aluminum for both durability and colour - I think they nailed the colour with this one. I was so delighted with this watch that I ordered one of the new Classic GMT Ceramics in 42 mm, and it arrived just yesterday. This one is fully up to expectations too, in materials, workmanship, appearance and function. I can wear the 42 mm with my 7 1/4 inch wrist, but like both sizes for daily wear. The bevel on the 39 mm was stiff when delivered, as others have noted, but is loosening up with use. The crown action and winding are also a bit stiff compared with the 42 mm. Overall I prefer he action and feel of the 42 mm, but can recommend either watch to potential buyers.

      Same here - 39mm case variant is most elegant, and most balanced proportionally in my opinion, while 42/44 mm version seem somehow bit different, not only bigger. The 39mm also, if not mistaken, does not suffer with straight long lugs as bigger cases. Wears really flat - but must admit have I flat wrist too. Additionally the Oceans supplied with upgraded type of ceramic engraved bezel insert deliver kind of a class step up, having absolutely awesome look! Plus minus 2-3 sec/day here. Perplexed !!!!

      Thank you for watching Kevin. Glad you enjoyed it. Congratulations, the 39 black is an excellent piece. I have owned both the 39 and 42 versions; and used to think the 42 fitted my 8" wrist better. However since trying the 39, I have now changed my mind; as the lugs aren't as straight and flat; so less gap between the case and wrist. My advice is if you have a 6-7" wrist the 39 Cermit will fit you better. The 42 really is only a good fit for 7-8" wrists. It is often the reason why they are sold soon after purchase due to the gap and straight lugs. Overall I think the 39 Cermit looks better than the 42. Regards.

      @watchreviews4k  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you for watching David. Glad you enjoyed it. Excellent choices. Difficult decision; as both are excellent. I previously owned the 42 Vintage Red and really liked it. The 39 is a better fit. However Steinhart have stopped selling bezel inserts on their website; now one has to return the watch to their HQ in Augsburg, Germany for replacement. This is something to consider, as the aluminium bezel inserts are easy to scratch. I previously owned a Kermit and scratched and dented the insert soon after buying it. Fortunately back then they used to sell them for only 15 Euro. Now they charge more to change it themselves. The ceramic bezels are more scratch resistant, so consider your lifestyle when choosing between them. Regards.

    Excellent review. For my next purchase (200m diver's) I've narrowed it down to three watches: I'm in two minds about this Steinhart 39mm, a Seiko 777 and the new Citizen Diver "Fugu." Seiko is a bit big at 44 mm, though. All supposedly sub-500 euros. I ruled out the new Tissot Seastar because I think its overly bulky hands are ugly and spoil the face. Also ruled out the classy new(ish) Raymond Weil Freelancer on grounds of cost (well over a grand).
    Got to say that bracelet and clasp on the Steinhart look amazing quality.

    Hi John , I'm all ordered now and can't wait to receive this watch from Steinhart. All thanks to your review and the other video with just the music. I looks a fantastic watch and I'm hoping the expectation exceeds the reality once it's here. I was happy with the quality of the vintage reds but agree with you the size dimensions on them are a little large and I'm about a 7" wrist. What I'm gleaning from your other Rolex sub review is that you had more negatives regarding that and I found this review you almost could not complain apart from the Cyclops date magnifier.
    Thanks 👍 for all.the help and replies John , I'll let you know when mine arrives .

    • @watchreviews4k
      @watchreviews4k  3 роки тому +2

      Glad you got it ordered after your problems. Congratulations, excellent choice. I have owned several 42mm Ocean One's and to be honest with you I made the mistake of thinking they would fit my 8" wrist better. But I now realise the 39mm version fits a 7-8" wrist better as the lugs aren't as long, straight, and flat. It wears more like a 40mm due to the pointed crown guards, rather than the blunt square crown guards on a Submariner. As you know I own a Submariner Date; and the truth is the feel good factor from a 39 Cermit is just as good. I actually prefer the case shape of the 39 with the more tapered lugs and pointed crown guards. As I said in my review, really the only negative is the 1.5x cyclops; but that is minor and can be overlooked as they got everything else just right with this piece. This was my favourite Ocean One I have ever owned; I think its one of the best Steinhart have ever made. You will find this yourself; a 39 fits a 7" wrist much better than the 42 version does. Like yourself I also owned a Vintage Red; another personal favourite of mine; its a shame they keep making the 39 version of it for Gnomon rather than selling it on the Steinhart website; as that is a great watch in 39. One thing you will prefer is the 39 case has less gap under the lugs to the wrist; it is a more snug fit than the 42. Let me know what you think of yours when you get it? Wear it in good health. Regards.

      @bruh_oly1370 3 роки тому +1

      @@watchreviews4k thanks John , I agree with you as many owners have said those lugs used to jut out off the wrist . I maybe tried to convince myself with the vintage red it didn't but it must have- it was a bit of a dinner plate when I look at pictures of it on my wrist. Pity as you say Steinhart missed a trick doing a 39 V.Red. I quite still like the painted indices on my skx but will be nice to see the applied indices on this green ceramic. Great Review! A very beautiful Watch! I'm a bit ambivalent about Homage watches, I understand the pros and cons 100% and I also have Hommage watches in mind. I have to say that my Ocean 39 GMT Black Ceramic does not have this feeling, unlike this watch. It is probably simply because steel and black are so ubiquitous and you don't associate them directly with Rolex like a Kermit, Hulk or Pepsi, I don't know. At least I think so. But everyone should wear what he feels comfortable with!

    • @watchreviews4k
      @watchreviews4k  3 роки тому +4

      Thank you for watching. Homage watch brands like Steinhart often draw criticism for copying Rolex. However I don't see it as any different from Jack Heuer copying the Submariner Date with the Heuer Professional Diver (844 Monnin case) during the Quartz Crisis of the 1970's. It didn't just save the Heuer brand from going bust, it became a great success for the brand as a less expensive alternative to the Submariner Date. So really Günter Steinhart is just doing the same in the 2000's as Jack Heuer did in the 1970's; producing a less expensive alternative to the Submariner Date. I only own one watch; a 116610LN Submariner Date, but I have owned several Ocean One's previously; and they give a similar feel good factor. The main advantage being one doesn't have any of the Rolex AD waiting list nonsense to go through. One can simply buy direct online and the watch is delivered by Fedex 5 days later. I think Rolex SA Geneva should consider adopting the same business model; and retail the watches direct online shipping via Fedex globally. They have already moved in the direction by leaving Baselworld and launching their novelties online. An Ocean One is a great first Swiss automatic for a collector; or simply a less expensive alternative to Tudor, Omega, and Rolex. The other positive of an Ocean One is the value retention; compared to other brands such as Omega which depreciate heavily from retail. So I consider Steinhart to be the modern-day mid-tier Heuer brand replacement; a good piece for a collector to experience whilst saving up for a Black Bay, Seamaster, or Submariner Date. Wear yours in good health. Regards.

      @@watchreviews4k Thanks for the Jack Heuer thing, very interesting!
      I see it the same way you do, Steinhart offers watches with a good price-performance ratio - not everybody can and wants to afford a Rolex and if you like the design of a Rolex, Steinhart is a good alternative. I also have to say that I don't like many Diver watches, Rolex did everything right with the design of the Submariner and Steinhart does everything right 😄👍
      Personally, I'm saving up for a Rolex Submariner Date (Black) and I'm going to treat myself to one. I really like the Kermit, Hulk and Pepsi watches and I could imagine buying them from Steinhart after I bought the Rolex.
      These discussions about Homage watches are unnecessary, everyone should wear what he wants. I like my Ocean GMT and enjoy 👍 a good companion to the dream watch Rolex.

    Beautiful watch and comprehensive review. You went over many details that other channels overlooked like the change in manufacturers and the thicker clasp. I’m thinking of getting this watch and have a few questions.
    How would you describe the fold over clasp? (The small part where you first use your finger nail to grab that has the logo)
    Does it feel loose?
    Also, how is the fitment on the end links? Are they tight or are there gaps when putting pressure on it?
    How does the crown action feel? Does it feel smooth or gritty?
    Thanks!

      @watchreviews4k  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you for watching Das. Glad you enjoyed it. The fliplock feels tight. Good positive click when it snaps shut with no play. The end links are an excellent fit in the case, tight fit, no play, no gaps. The crown thread feels smooth when screwing down, and unscrewing. There is a characteristic firm spring loaded pressure against it when screwing it down, on both the SW200-1 and ETA 2824-2. One can feel the resistance gradually building up when manually winding the mainspring. The crown threading isn't as silky smooth as my Rolex Submariner Date, I would describe it as similar to the feel of a Seiko screw down crown, such as on the SKX007, or SRP777 Turtle; which are both satisfactory in terms of smoothness. Overall it is both excellent quality/value for the respective price point The only real negative as discussed in my review; is the 1.5x magnification of the cyclops magnifier. Regards.

      Difficult decision as both the Kermit and Cermit 39 versions are excellent. Personally I prefer the ceramic bezel, and darker black dial. Steinhart did a really good job on the engraved numerals with white paint. I prefer the bezel to the Cerachrom one on my Rolex Submariner Date. The numerals are infilled with platinum which gives them a matte silver look. The white paint used on the Ocean One ceramic bezel looks better. I also prefer the lumed triangle to the lumed bezel pip Rolex use. Overall it is an excellent quality/value watch for 455 Euro including Fedex shipping. The only negative is the 1.5x magnification of the cyclops rather than 2.5x Rolex use. But that is a minor negative one can live with. Wear yours in good health. Regards.

      @@Visitor555 I agree with you. There is a lot of snobbery in watch collecting. Rolex fanboys will look down on collectors with anything less; such as a Steinhart Ocean One 39, or Pagani Design PD-1661. As you can see from my reviews, and State Of The Collection video; I am not like that. The Ocean One 39 is the best watch for under 500 Euro. The PD-1661 is the best watch for under 100 Euro. I appreciate many collectors cannot afford to pay 11K Euro for a Submariner Date on the grey market. So the Ocean One 39, and PD-1661; are good alternatives for a collector that can afford 500 Euro or 100 Euro pieces. The most important thing is the feel good factor of wearing the piece. The truth is, the Ocean One 39 gives the same feel good factor as a Submariner Date; but without the expense; or waiting list nonsense at a Rolex AD. The Submariner Date is a good watch; but so is the Ocean One 39. That is the truth. Of course the Rolex fanboy will never admit that; as it hurts his ego to do so. You see my 3 piece collection? I also have a 68 Euro Vostok Amphibia, and 62 Euro Pagani Design PD-1661. I enjoy the feel good factor of these low-tier pieces as much as my Submariner Date. I don't look down on any collector for owning these pieces, I admire their confidence. Couldn't agree more re size. Had the OVM and this Ceramic Green both in 42mm. Sold them both and replaced them with their 39mm versions.
    I also picked up two more 39mm O1s along the way (Marine Blue and Vintage GMT Pepsi) and all of them are high quality products.
    However: The bezel-action on all four of them was too stiff out of the box. Slightly too stiff on the GMT and the Green, and significantly too stiff on the other two. And judging from other YTs' experiences, this seems to be the norm with a lot of 39mm O1s (my two 42mm O1s were smooth as silk right out of the box). Simply rotating the bezels 2 to 4 times once a day has resolved that "problem" on all of them over time, but I think it's worth mentioning to potential buyers who aren't familiar with these watches.
    Another "drawback" (in quotation marks since it doesn't bother me, but might bother others) is the fact that, IMO, the hands on the 39mm O1s are a little to large for their dials. It's very noticeable on the OVM, where the seconds-hand nearly runs into the steel rehaut - when on the 42 (and on the genuine MilSub) it barely touches the minute markings. Again: Doesn't bother me and will probably never be noticed by 99.9% of people unless they have a 42 and 39 in front of them at the same time.

      Thank you for watching. I previously owned 42 versions as I thought they would fit my 8" wrist better. I later realised the 39 case is a better fit. Regards.

      @@watchreviews4k OVM has sword-hands, Marine Blue has snowflakes. IMO it's probably a cost issue. I can't be 100% certain, but I'd say they generally use the same size of hands on both the 42 and 39. The Mercedes-hands are a bit on the larger side, too for the 39's dial-size, but it's barely noticeable since the seconds-hand on the Mercedes-set is a lot thinner than that arrowhead-one on the OVM. Same with the Merc-minute hand which is a lot less stubby and much "pointier" than its counterparts in both the snowflake- and the sword-set. Oh well ...very minor complaint, anyway.. :D

      @@1SaG I have previously owned several 39's and 42''s; including the Vintage Military. The Mercedes hands on the 39 and 42 are different sizes. In both cases they are larger than Rolex Submariner hands. This is deliberate by Steinhart to avoid breaching the Intellectual Property Rights of Rolex SA Geneva. With regards to the production cost of the 5517 Milsub style sword hands, and Tudor Snowflake hands, they use similar amounts of Superluminova; therefore the production cost is similar. I prefer the sword hands and would like to see Steinhart use them on all Ocean One models. Regards.

    Steinhart is a new brand for me and very interesting. One thing I read some users considered as a negative thing is the flat lugs, and that's also noticeable in your video.
    This makes the watch to be too flat on the wrist, according to some opinions.
    Is it anything you have thought about? Some people have sold their watches because of that and I am not sure how I will perceive it.

    • @watchreviews4k
      @watchreviews4k  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you for watching Patric. Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, the Ocean One does have flat lugs, and a gap between the case and wrist. It is indeed a common reason why collectors sell their watch soon after buying it. The gap is larger in the 42 than the 39 version. It really depends on your wrist size. If you have a 6-7" wrist you will notice the gap under the case more. if you have a 7-8" wrist it is less noticeable due to the wider, flat area the case sits on. So my advise is this, if you have a 7-8" wrist the 39 will be a good fit. If you have a 6-7" wrist you will need to try it, and see if you like the fit or not. Bear in mind Steinhart have a 14 day return policy; so if you don't remove the plastic you can try it and return it if unhappy with it. Regards.

      Thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. Congratulations, excellent choice. No, the SW200-1 and ETA 2824-2 both feel the same when handwinding. Also there isn't a difference in the sound of the rotor when automatically winding. So the only way to tell which one your watch has is to remove the caseback. One can either look for the ETA engraving on the movement, or 25/26 jewels (SW200-1 is 26, ETA 2824-2 is 25). Other than the extra jewel added, the SW200-1 is a clone of the ETA 2824-2. Both are élaboré grade, regulated in 3 positions. Steinhart use both movements equally in the Ocean One. They started using SW200-1 as an alternative to ETA 2824-2 when the supply of ETA movements was restricted to non Swatch Group brands (ETA is Swatch Group owned). Also the price per piece for SW200-1 is less expensive than ETA 2824-2; so there is more profit margin for Steinhart in using Sellita rather than ETA. I have had both in my Ocean One's and had no problems with either. Similar accuracy with both; typically within +/- 5 seconds per day. Wear yours in good health. Regards.

      @@ivankerr3570 Yes, I am aware. It is a shame Steinhart don't make a 39 blue. I emailed Günter Steinhart back in 2019 asking him to make a Tudor Snowflake Submariner homage with the 39's case. He wasn't interested back then; but later made the Gnomon version. It is a shame he didn't just make a blue version available on their own website rather than Gnomons. I don't like the Explorer dial 39 as they put 100 metres on the dial; and that doesn't make sense as we all know the 39 is a 300 metre water resistant watch. They should have used their 39 Vintage GMT case for a blue Black Bay 58 homage; that would have looked better than the Gnomon version using the 39's case. Regards.

So the brand expects one to make a review to help sell their watch; free marketing; and one has to pay them for the watch too. Yes, I removed the caseback to check. That is the only way one can tell, as the ETA 2824-2 and SW200-1 both feel the same when hand winding and setting the time. Steinhart use both movements equally in the 39. Both are élaboré grade, and have the same build quality, accuracy, reliability; so it really doesn't matter which one gets. I have 96 videos on my channel now, so struggle to keep up with replying to all the comments to be honest with you. The 39 black, and 39 Cermit; are both excellent. Personally I prefer the Cermit as the green bezel is more eye catching, and I also like that although the Ocean One is a homage to the Submariner Date; ironically Steinhart released their Cermit before Rolex themselves did. So one could argue they didn't copy the Rolex Cermit. The double green Hulk 39 is one of the greatest watches Steinhart have ever made. I really like the exhibition caseback, and think the tone of green on the bezel and dial are a better match than on the Rolex Hulk. Prior to owning my Submariner Date, I owned a Submariner (no-date); and before that a Hulk. Honestly the Steinhart Hulk is better looking as the green on the dial is slightly darker; closer to the bezel. The Rolex Hulk bezel dial was too light in comparison. Difficult choice to make between the Steinhart Cermit or Hulk? As both are lovely looking. Personally I don't think its worth the premium to get the exhibition caseback on the Hulk. The Cermit is better value; and the contrast between the black dial and green bezel is very pleasing. Overall I think you made the correct decision buying a 39 Cermit. Wear yours in good health. I don’t care about the cyclops being 1.5 times. Seems a very personal complaint considering there are many who don’t want a cyclops at all and others who prefer to go even further with just leaving the date out altogether. The main thing is that this watch is gorgeous and it has a very similar look to the Rolex. The proportions of the bezel to the case and the hour marking loom and the hands are very harmonious, just like the Rolex. Steinhart have really got the bezel nailed. I think it is more attractive than the Rolex.
    I think, if I had a wish, it would for the lugs to have a bit more downward curve to help the watch to sit on smaller wrists securely. Yes, the clasp could be better if is had a ratcheting fine adjustment, but that seems to be a common place for improvements for all watches at this price. The lugs could also be drilled for easier removal of the strap. Those improvements wouldn’t change the cost very much at all, but I think they would be very much appreciated by the market. Steinhart has got so much nailed already, that with just a few small changes it would be very hard to suggest any more improvements. I love the green they’ve used for the bezel. My mind is almost made up. I’m definitely getting one. My only decision is do I go Kermit or will it be Hulk?

The reality is dealers often don't have the ability to deal with warranty repairs; as Steinhart have the parts. So the dealer ends up returning the watch to Steinhart for repair; which lengthens the whole process. Better to deal direct and cut out the middleman. Yes, the discount appears attractive now. But later on if there is a problem; you will wish you just dealt with Steinhart direct. I have had to return a Premium Blue myself as it arrived with scratches on the case. Steinhart immediately offered to cover the return shipping via Fedex, and when they received it back; offered either a full refund or new watch. Thank you for watching Brian. Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, I think it looks better with the cyclops removed. The 1.5x magnification doesn't really make the date window easier to read. It is easy to read without the cyclops anyway. I think the flat sapphire crystal is a cleaner look. Also it makes the Ocean One look less like a homage to the Rolex Cermit; and gives it its own identity as not just being a direct copy. Its a shame Steinhart don't offer the option on all Ocean One's; to buy them with/without cyclops. Many collectors would prefer it without. Regards.

      @@johndickinson8848 Thank you for watching. It is difficult to remove the cyclops magnifier with a butane blowtorch; as the adhesive they use is very strong. One has to use so much heat to melt the adhesive the sapphire crystal cracks. A better option for the 42mm version is to replace it with a double domed sapphire crystal from Crystaltimes. Unfortunately they don't make one for the 39mm version (although I have asked them to). Regards.
