  • People ask me a lot what I think of Steinhart Watches as a brand. Are the watches any good? Are they worth the money? In this video I'll outline my experience having owned around 20 different Steinhart watches.
Models such as the Ocean One have an enormous breadth of styles, finishes and materials across the range and it's this diversity that sets Steinhart apart (along with generally excellent build quality).
Make sure to check out my latest watch club, www.thekeeperbox.com for more quality timepieces and a new and exciting way to build your collection.

Honeymoon phase. If you get a new watch, doesn’t matter what other ones you have, you only want to wear the new one. Despite owning a few luxury watches when I received a G-shock that’s all I wanted to wear for a few weeks. Now I almost never wear it.

Indeed, I feel exactly the same way. I use a sub with aluminum insert quite often, hunting/fishing. Apart from the mechanism, the steinhart offers better bracelet and insert making it a better choice for the job.

wearing the omv 42mm since 2019. fits well on my 7.35''' wrist and keeping time well. at a fraction of rolex price, it's a good daily beater. yup, some say it copies the design of rolex, but didn't rolex also copy designs of other brands at its first launch? all diver watch looks similar, but steinhart offers the value and features that match your money.

Great review! It is nice that you also compared the Steinhart with the Oceaneva which you also reviewed. I is a purchasing the oceaneva but could have easily went for the steinhart. The Choice was a trade- off… Open case-back on the Steinhart versus applied indices on the Oceaneva and the fact that the lugs protrude much more on the Steinhart which is an issue for my smaller sized wrist. You cannot go wrong with either watch.

I've handled two of my friends Submariners the last few weeks at work...I have never been MORE sure or MORE secure in my Steinhart purchases. Seriously, I could not believe what I was seeing and feeling on the submariners. In my brain i thought: dear friend cling to the heritage and rich history & legacy. But BEN CLYMER himself can not convince me of Rolex being superior in build quality. You want to own a watch from the greatest watch company in the world? Buy a Rolex. You want to own one of the best built watches in the world right now? Buy a Steinhart.

"Greatest watch company in the world? Buy Rolex." - First thing first, Rolex is registered as charity and not as a company. Don't believe me? Do your own research! And second Rolex is one of the great companies but to award it with the title of the greatest? Jesus Christ... That's one title I have problem with. I think that Rolex produces a great watches and I believe that their quality is excellent. But in terms of innovations and complications, they didn't came up with nothing WOW for a very long time. I would place Omega over Rolex any time of the day in terms of quality and innovation, especially when you compare what you get for your money. I deliberately said OMEGA because to put a Rolex in a same sentence with Jaeger LeCoultre, Vacheron Constantin, A Lange Sohne, Patek Philippe or Breguet is a blasphemy. Yes, yes I know all about Rolex smart advertising and their luxury campaign, however even Seiko has managed to outperform Rolex with their GS line. That says a LOT.

I have the Ocean 1 Blue Ceramic and the Titanium GMT-Batman (shown in video-Alex’s keeper).
I feel that this is the highest quality watch at the price point.
    I have enjoyed them tremendously.
Some watches have a slightly better feel-but that is at a higher price point. Still, I find that I often sleep with the Steinhart on.
I also really enjoy the movement. The smooth sweeps are fantastic.

Very decent for the most part . When I started to get into automatic watches around 10 years ago I loved them owned probably 15 over the years . The heavy homage thing is a bit much and often people move on the more experience and informed they become but at price point no one can really complain the price quality ratio is decent . I think for a bit more a Christopher Ward provides watches with completely different level of refinement and I think would be a better place to start , the c 60 can be picked up lightly used for around 450 pounds and is a fantastic watch rivalling and bettering many pieces that retail 1500 pounds or more ..

I have an OceanOne 39 GMT Pepsi. I ordered an additional jubilee bracelet. The watch with that bracelet feel every bit as luxurious as my Omega. The 39mm pushes the limits of my 6 1/4” wrist, but it doesn’t look gaudy.
The biggest oversight is that bracelet clasp. On the steel bracelet, the end buckle is stamped. You have to dig out that clasp with your fingernail. My $80 Seiko has a better clasp.
If you can forgive the clasp, it’s truly an awesome watch. I saw it on a co-worker’s wrist and complimented him on his Sub. He corrected me and showed off his Steinhart. I bought one the next week.

Thanks for the video and your review of the several models. As an owner of an Ocean One 39 Green I agree on your remarks about overall quality. The bracelet is definitely something they have to work on. For me the bezel was a horror show though. The first 2 months of wearing it it was so damn sturdy that I had to use real force to get it moving at all. After a few months it loosened up. Now when I want to have the arrow sit on the 12 accurately I have to turn the bezel slightly back, otherwise it will be skewed. Maybe something to consider for people who are new to this brand. Regards from Germany

    • @nudelkopf1995
      @nudelkopf1995 3 роки тому +1

@David Coleman I'd like to give an update now after half a year of ownership. The bezel has really loosened up and turning it is very smooth now. Still a little skewed though. The watch has turned from being an impulse purchase to being one of my daily beaters. If you can live with the imperfections at this price point I can recommend Steinhart.

I've got two. The Premium Ocean Blue and the Vintage Red. The Premium Ocean Blue is spectacular. I originally bought the Ocean Blue as a stand in for when my Rolex Submariner 5513 was being serviced. I now never wear my Rolex as it has become an expensive fashion item and cost Euros 1000 for a service. I now wear everyday my Steinhart. It looks better than the Rolex and is more rugged. It's time keeping is also fantastic. Why does anyone buys a Rolex now? I suppose they want the name because they are unsure of themselves.

I’ve been wearing it on a black leather rally strap with white contrast stitching and just changed it to a curved-end blue silicone that matches the bezel perfectly. The only thing I would have changed is the hour and minute hands; they’re a little unimaginative. Otherwise it’s one of my favorite pieces! Cheers mate!

I like Steinhart watches, I have the Premium Blue and the Ocean 1 GMT (aluminum bezel) and I think the biggest disappointment is the clasp. It's a friction fit with a foldover, perfectly OK, but not that impressive. The reflective nature of the premium blue ceramic bezel (not engraved ceramic) is also a bit reflective for easy reading. I like them, but if I could replace the clasp I'd like them more and buy more of them.

New to the channel, thank you for the detailed review, I've got my eye on the diver in titanium. Looking for a daily beater and steinhart, especially in titanium is in my short list. Although they've launched the ocean one as a homage, I do own a few rolex divers, I see them very different. Am a bit skeptical for the 42mm versions as from what I've seen so far, they are quite long - lug to lug I mean. The 39mm is great but not sure whether the titanium is available at that size. Nearly 2 decades ago, anything under 43mm was too small, with my only exception the sub/SD but past 3 years am looking at 38mm to 42mm tops and if they aren't too long. One more model that I've liked is the ocean one vintage mil with the sword hands. The aluminum insert is the downside and perhaps the lug to lug which should be same as all the 42mm around 51.5mm.

I've been so skeptical about homage watches before and then I ran across Steinhart. I have an Ocean 1 Pink Gold Blue Ceramic headed my way and I couldn't be more excited. I've been searching for a nice quality heritage diver like piece that has a blue face and rose gold PVD coating with a reasonable lug to lug. Tried an OceanX Sharkmaster V and it was a well built piece but the extended end link lugs stuck out SO far, even for my 7 inch wrist. And the crystal was way too thick. Kept searching and searching and finally found Steinhart. I thought oh boy here's another homage company that's going to cut too many corners and put a bad taste in my mouth. But after watching review after review after review, I was completely sold.
Speaking of bad tastes and homages, Rolex right now puts a super bad taste in my mouth with the AD and distribution nonsense. My Seamaster Aqua Terra was a way better purchase than an Explorer. In my opinion only.

I own three Steinharts. Two of them with aluminum bezels. The aluminum bezels are outstanding for folks who are after the 70's look and feel. To be sure, I'm fine with mine and they evoque exactly the watches they are homaging without being mere replicas or copies. Regarding quality, Obviously they are not luxury Swiss watches but they do set a bar that luxury Swiss watches must beat in every way without debate. With that in mind, I have walked away from Breitlings, Tags, and Rolex dive models I was curious about simply because the finishes were either not superior or in some other way they just did not feel like a better watch than the Steinhart on my wrist or were not right in terms of some specs. I have friends who were profesional divers and who still have or have had Rolex submariners or sea dwellers, and I am myself a retired sat diver who used to wear one of the first Seiko Tunas on the job. I can tell you my friends were baffled at the elegance, look and feel, and overall solid presence of my Steinhart watches, as well as their tool watch quality and specs. I am still looking to step-up but have not yet found that watch I would feel is worth the money in terms of value proposition in regards to the criteria implied above. A Steinhart is a very clear value proposition that way, and they are anything but cheap, they are very honest watches and tool watches befitting the purpose of what they are homaging. I am now looking in the direction of Seiko MM it might be the best profesional dive watch out there and also the most serious/honest value proposition; but I will keep one or two Steinharts, regardless, for sure. We'll see if Seiko MarineMaster will convince.

I bought a steel GMT new a couple of years ago. I liked it but the GMT hand was WAY off. No point in having a GMT if it can't be set accurately. So I sent it back under warranty quickly and got a full refund. So has anybody else experienced this problem? I'm quite keen on the Premium GMT. What is the accuracy of the GMT had on this one? How does the crown feel when setting the time, date and GMT time? Cheers

I buy a Ocean One Ceramic. Its so beautifull and feels very qualitiv. The lule are strong and hold on the hole night. The Bezzel feels like the best Bezzel i ever touched. Sorry for my bad english i am from Austria. Yess The Ceramic Bezzel is so beautifull and looks much better than the aluminium ones. I can say for this Money this was the best Watch that i can buy. I love it. Feels like a real Luxurywatch and can do the same things like a real submariner.

I actually prefer the aluminum bezel for two reasons. First, it has more of a traditional look. Second, the white numbers in the ceramic bezel is a turn off. If they'd fill the numbers with a silver color, they'd look much better in my opinion.

Do you know also other brands? What Ive got eye on Steinhart - new green one with ceramic bezel and Tissot Seastar 1000, but will buy one or another not both, what do you think? I think Tissot seastar 1000 does not have antireflecting coating? The antireflecting coating make watch look more classy, does not it?

I have a steinhart ocean one and I love it. I also have a tissot gentleman powermatic 80 and I love it. The tissot is the more accurate and a nicer watch in my opinion, with the exception of the bracelet steinhart has tissot beat on the bracelet. I love both of them. You can't go wrong with either brand!

Steinhart are absolutely, positively worth it. I have a Rolex 5513 maxi dial 1978. I also have Steinhart OVM 39, OVM 42 and a Double Red. The hardest thing for me is... what do I wear today... But seriously, the build quality is great. The movement has a much louder and faster tick that the Rolex, but for the price, your won't find a better watch for the money. The clasp on the Rolex sounds cheap compared to the Steinhart. With a new Rolex, your are paying for the amount of money they send on marketing and sponsorship (F1), and not for a better watch. I recently had to have the Rolex serviced, that cost more than the price of 3 Steinhart's. Don't waste your money... wear and Steinhart every time.

Gotten to the point where I prefer steinhart over the microbrand in its price category. Design unoriginal but apart from that you’re getting a solid well built watch.
