It’s funny, after watching some videos from players like Esoterick you can kinda start thinking that’s just normal gameplay. In a lot of his solo videos, he goes pretty slow and methodical and it’s easy to think “oh that’s not that hard” until you do it yourself and whiff rockets, overthrow grenades, or get yourself cornered because you didn’t clear some specific enemies. It’s the consistency of rarely missing shots, being patient, and knowing what to attack and when to attack it.

I could watch/listen all day. It's so nice for guys like myself where most of the people I play with are better but not good enough to give this kind of advice. And I agree about him showing his gameplay, I love seeing the contrast and having the commentary on it. It didn't feel boastful or cocky, just helpful
I'm someone who knows a lot about the gameplay side, your explanations are fantastic. Your tips on enemy behavior, enemy mechanics, and weapon interactions are spot on and very good for new / unaware players! This is the depth these players need (and hopefully want). Great analysis!
For Overloads, if you stand on ground that an Overload cannot walk to, they'll stop charging you and slowly walk back to their spawn point. This is incredibly useful in, say, Perdition, when trying to isolate the 2nd Overload. This is where you can make it charge back toward the 1st Overload's spawn, stand on the middle platform to make it slowly walk back, and then step off to make it charge you again before it can go back upstairs.
As someone who used to be a D1 hard core player and now being an adult with very little time to play D2 and invest time into learning these little things, I appreciate this sooo much
This kind of content serves as a really good reminder to me that brute forcing things is always going to be worse than just taking a step back and analyzing mistakes to see where I can improve.
@@JL32506 i think a big part of it is the gulf in content difficulty between patrol zones and vanguard versus higher level content that's existed for a very long time until now. You didn't have to actually TRY in that other content and it builds very bad habits. I don't think it's self-explanatory at all if you spent a lot of time doing that easier content, thought you were good at the video game, and then decided to try harder stuff. Before the difficulty changes, the two ways to play were honestly a completely different game.
This is phenomenal. We can now see the praxis of builds. It helps create a viewer life cycle too. Viewer watches build video, viewer tries it, creates build video for analysis, Datto gives feedback, future viewers try builds and submit videos for analysis. Also, I haven't seen this level of engagement with viewers anywhere else!
The intricacies of how each type of Champion works is something that I've never learned as an exact science, and somehow have never thought about it. Especially how re-agroing of a room affects the behavior of a Barrier. Very informative
I didn't know that Overloads start healing because the overload debuff went away. It makes dealing with them without an overload exotic a bit more annoying, especially when they don't get re-stunned immediately.
@@Amirifizoverloads are probably the hardest to deal with depending on the seasonal perks. Personally if i know theres gonna be alot of overloads then ill always opt for Jolt or slow (Chill Clip) and then things like Le Monaque or surpression. Using legendary weapons on them can be painful
Please make more of these. Theres so many nuances and quirks to this game that you can only know from pure playtime. I'd love for this to continue just to learn more and also help new lights.
Love this kinda stuff. I consider myself a pretty good player but I have not made a career playing or covering this game, so getting the perspective of someone who has done that and is undoubtedly better than me and who is more in tune with the game is invaluable. I'm also fairly sure your WoW/MMO history plays a role in your mechanical understanding. There are things here that make complete sense but theres a good chance I'd never consider on my own (not using a rocket lmao). Thanks bud. A few really appreciated tips that you included here are to slow it down, practice/patience, and know your surroundings and escape routes. I feel that last one isn't nearly as harped on as it should be.
I really do like this video - even if I’m not making the exact mistakes shown in the video, you talking through hat your thought process is about spawns and when to commit to tackling champions is really helpful! More like this please!
I love this content I personally do consider myself a skilled player but it was very nice to see you analyze others gameplay and point out small mistakes!
Absolutely love hearing your commentary and insight on the game play, just like you're coaching me. I'm looking forward to more in this series! Love your channel and keep up the great work!
I think this is a great format! Works really well to see the first run gameplay and analysis, then your run, then see the improvements. Definitely sharing this with friends that need it.
This was really good content and it looks like the person learnt a lot from what you told them. Much better gameplay in their 2nd attempt. Great stuff.
Love this, generally I consider myself decent at this game at over 3000+ hours, I know a lot, but seeing a lot of the things that I've internalized in a video is not only a nice refresher, but also gives me great tips when others may ask questions
I know you said you’ll prob not do another vid like this one, but I love this kind of content. The coach in me is always looking for ways to articulate improvement to the people I play with regularly and this not only offers a glimpse into the mind of a good player, but additionally (and really why I LOVE this) it gives you a glimpse into how to articulate the rationale behind decisions to your team. It gives credibility to decision making and as proof by the vids, can drastically change your approach to “difficult” content. As a player passionate about improvement, I sincerely hope there’s more content in a similar vein, to follow. Thanks for always being awesome Datto. Keep up the great work.
Datto doing this for people is such a good thing. Because for me its so hard to explain to new people how to get good at the game. Videos like these really explains the thinking of a true destiny veteran and its fantastic for new players!
The hardest thing to explain is that so much of it is feel and muscle memory (including brain). It takes time and commitment, which newer players will get, just with playtime. Glad he specially mentions loadout too? Because the tools at your disposal are more or less just as important as game knowledge.
@@samvakarianloadouts and builds are hands down where i see alot of players in lfgs going wrong, which surprises me cause build videos are quite popular but then again not everyone follows them
One of my favorite video categories on UA-cam is long-form educational content. This video is exactly that, well thought out and in-depth. I am a fan and I hope this video's metrics encourage you to continue.
It's a good feedback especially for people who are not used to farming higher activity, i would definitely watch more and can't wait for gms because i totally need help with
Hey, this is great! Love the format! I think a lot of the advice is obvious in retrospect but, imo, it's a symptom of the game's long-time lower difficulty that most folks are relatively lax with their automatic tactics.
Thank-you so much to who submitted this and for the pointers for improvement. I have learned a lot from a number of videos recently. Used armor picker and dim for 1st time and was able to find several sets of much better armor for stats that along with trying things taught in these improve game play videos have really helped this very new to D2 and lol gaming in general player. Really appreciate it. I am dying less and killing things faster. Have a long way to go to be higher level but enjoying the ride.
Hey this was a great start to this series. Dunno if its in scope but I'd love to see master raid gameplay too. I think it poses its own unique problems that I think a lot of people could benefit from some feedback on
I love this not just for helping people figure out how to improve, but as someone trying to get into being a Sherpa more often it's helpful just to see your advice and clarity on giving those tips as well
This kind of video is perfect for visual learners like myself. Seeing build videos and listening to someone talk at me only helps so much, but seeing examples and watching the reasoning of certain decisions and build effects played out in front of me is immensely more helpful than anything else, thank you Datto
Hope that this video gains enough traction! Showing people that the game isn't hard but instead they are approaching situations incorrectly is exactly what this community needs to see! Keep up the good work Datto!!
This helps a ton because we are getting to see players who are not top tier and just melting everything down. We can get some insight on what to do differently. The builds help but seeing them in action or where we might be falling short on utilizing them is a huge help. I see these builds and can't them to work as well and this helps me to see why they are or are not working. Thanks Datto and whoever submits gameplay.
While I don't feel the need for this video myself, I can ABSOLUTELY say that this is the kind of content we need more of in the Destiny community. Showing a build/playstyle and coaching someone through a build/playstyle are two very different things, so this is amazing to see. If other games have videos on how to improve for competitive rankings and such, why not this?
Thank you for this. I haven't finished watching the video yet but am super excited for it. As others have said, this is the kind of thing that may of us really need to help us improve. I sincerely hope you don't get the toxicity you're expecting because while I may have feedback on the specifics once I've finished watching, I have no doubt that I'll find it helpful and will want to see more. ♥️
Genuinely something I've been waiting for is Datto just telling us how to play the game like this. It takes a lot of time and dedication to learn the ins and out of the game and not everyone has the time nor patience to do so. That said having something like this to look at and see where you could also improve on the same mistakes you might be making helps A TON. Really hope this becomes a regular thing. Also pat on the back to MODJOD for submitting gameplay and knowing it'll get picked apart in front of a stream and YT.
@@Th3RazieI Yes I do, when I shoot at them directly with a scout, any scout, doesn't work. Found some ppl complaining about that on reddit but nobody can point it what's happening, if it's actually a glitch or whatever.
As someone who doesn’t need these kind of videos, they are fantastic for seeing how the more general population of the game play it and inspire me on how to suggest things to the homies or people that are curious. Perfectly configuring a loadout for lost sectors or nightfalls and covering all bases is one of the most fun puzzles for me in the game
first and most important tip: just wait for EDZ/Dreaming City/Europa lost sector with drops that you need. they take 3-4 times less time to complete than the newer ones. if you want to test your build or improve your skill - then newer ones are pretty good, but they are not meant to be farmed, there's no way anyone would spend 8 minutes per lost sector 30 times in a row to get no drops at all.
I don't blame anyone for using Wish-Ender in Master content because it shreds shields and does massive single-shot damage. It's a slower Arbalest with infinite ammo.
In-depth game knowledge like that segment on how Barrier Champions won't shield until they aggro is a fantastic example of the kind of stuff I was expecting from analysis videos like this. Lovely that I can still be learning things from videos like this even almost 3000 hours deep into the game. In terms of feedback, I would definitely appreciate more of a dive into how to manage champions (maybe even as its own separate video, there doesn't seem to be many comprehensive/up-to-date guides in the short research I did) as I feel like going over the updated ways of dealing with them will help to curb some of the "I need double primary for champion mods" mentality. Mentioning things like stun cooldown, updated ways to stun like Volatile Rounds, that aformentioned Barrier aggro example, etc. Great video overall. Really hope more show up on the channel.
I think it would be nice if your gameplay section was on the same class as the viewers to show how someone could do a run without needing a different class since some players only run one character. Not sure how feasible that is for you to do though. Outside of that, I love the idea behind videos like this
He is doing this analysis on players gameplays and giving them tips on what to improve/change, basically being a coach for that specific player. This is not a general guide for all subclasses on this specific strike.
@@eduardoceron4636 No I understand that, but since he included his own gameplay in this video, I was just suggesting that it could be done on the same class as the viewers so there can be a direct comparison for people watching
Would definitely watch more of these. Should make this a weekly series since there are so many different PVE situations and and activities that would benefit from having some breakdowns. I would definitely be down for more Coach Datto.
I love throwing these videos on at work, dialogue heavy with a good video length and a lot of analysis. I watched the lost sector analysis from the stream vod and loved it and I'm very happy to see a dedicated video. Id love to see more of these Cheers
I’ve been waiting for something like this, a break down on how to get better, new strategies, do’s and don’ts and how to improve overall. Looking forward to more.
I think this is definetly needed, I feel like this type of content is needed in the Destiny community. There are many guides on raids & dungeons aswell as countless build videos but there are no "How to be more efficient/better in X activity/general Play" Videos/Guides. Veteran or new player, sometimes the little details can go over someone's head & I think this is generally very healthy to make this type of content availible to as many people as possible.
Honestly what this shows me is how stupid it is that overloads have immunity for an eternity after being stunned and it confuses the hell out of anyone who doesn't go online. Overloads aren't fun for those who know how to deal with them and are outright walls for those who don't, can't believe they never get touched in patches.
they literally have a glowing string thing around them and if it's glowing they can't be stunned don't expect to be spoon fed every piece of info use your brain
I love watching your commentary, and thanks so much to the player who submitted the footage. Both are very helpful and informative. I had to laugh at some of the mistakes that were made, because we've ALL made them a thousand times. And Datto's comments and suggestions were funny but also very helpful. Hope to see more of these, sir 🙏
Bro, this is such a waste of time. What's next? Strike analysis? Can I get some analysis on my tower movement Datto? How can I get to Zavala from Ikora the fastest?
You say that as if the person in the video doesnt very obviously need the help. Considering how many people shit and moan about the difficulty of lost sectors this person is probably at the average level of most destiny players
honestly i hope you do more of these. I was able to send this to one of my new lights that i have been helping level and wanted to help them understand how to deal with champs and thought processes to walk through these easier. Thanks for the helpful video.
I LOVED this content. This is the only time I have seen someone who is upper tier at Destiny 2 providing helpful feedback and teaching others how to get better. Please do more of this. Great Job!
This was really useful and entertaining, and I hope you consider doing more of these. If nothing else, a video explaining useful tips and general advice like the one from this video can shed light on many aspects of the game the playerbase at large is completely oblivious too (and you can't blame them, since Bungie refuses to give detailed explanations to literally any part of their game).
Love this style of content. I'm not a player that necessarily needs the advice myself, but it's really helpful to see what types of advice others need for teaching purposes in raids, lost sectors, etc especially for any new/returning players. Thanks for the effort in advising and for people being willing to improve themselves and their skills through feedback.
This popped on my recommended videos and I'd just like to reiterate what some of the people here have already said that this video is awesome. Very constructive criticism the whole way through and to see the refined gameplay at the end was just *chefs kiss* please Datto make more of these types of videos
I watched some segments of this live on stream and other segments on the vod channel, but I’m coming here to say that this is really great content that I’m sure many people will enjoy and appreciate!
I do like this, especially that you filmed it live. I don’t think a typical voice over the gameplay would work as well. Very useful, even for veterans who might tunnel vision into a certain way to approach even a single enemy.
Alright Datto, I absolutely love this style of video. I was recently watching the buildcrafting videos you've recently released, and I feel like I couldn't quite understand what mods I should run because I wasn't sure how they would work in-game. This type of video is much more down-to-earth for me and more easily understood. I can take this information and better understand ways I can improve my gameplay mechanically, even if my build hasn't been perfected. I can't wait to see more of these.
I really enjoyed this video. Especially appreciated the last bit, and seeing some of your advice implemented and how that improved the gameplay. More like this, please!
The big thing about quiver that I don't see many people take advantage of is the fact that you don't have to fire them both back to back. 9:16 he was fine activating the first one but then he should've pulled out wish-ender for the barrier and once it pops he'd still have super energy left to fire his last quiver shot
I'd love to see this series grow and continue. I play at a fairly high level but I occasionally get to a wall where I can't really tell if it's my build or me now knowing how to exploit it for some high level solo flawless content. Seeing this, even if it's not precisely high level gameplay, gives me some pointers.
I am newish to destiny (about 150 hours in) and am lucky to have a few friends to help me through it. That being said, these videos are so helpful. My friends help me with build ideas, modding, and such, but these videos are great to learn actual gameplay tips (where to stand, where position myself, which weapons to use when, etc). I hope you continue to post them. I watched the last part of your stream when you started this, and I was able to complete my first solo legendary lost sector after.
This is a great video. When I first started Destiny back in old D1, I struggled because I rushed in too fast. Rushed in, got surrounded, got killed. And I did it over and over. Took me a long time to learn to be more patient in harder content, and take it slow and methodical.

Three tailed fox is the only rocket I'll use in these. It's just so good for champs.
back before the nerfs ghorn would've been pog
I absolutely love this format, what you’re doing here. I do wonder, if this video type continues, will you take submissions?
I believe he'll still be taking submissions on stream either way.
I think this type of D2 content is greatly needed for people right now Datto would love to see more
Excellent content. 100% more of this please, been playing for years and this just shows you never know enough.
Oh man, this type of video is great for people struggling on Lost Sectors. Great stuff, Datto!
This is peak content. Coach Datto is my new favorite Datto. Please do more of these!
It's a good feedback especially for people who are not used to farming higher activity, i would definitely watch more and can't wait for gms because i totally need help with
By all means, make more of these! You weren’t overly harsh or condescending, your critiques were well thought out and very logical.
I think it poses its own unique problems that I think a lot of people could benefit from some feedback on
I love this not just for helping people figure out how to improve, but as someone trying to get into being a Sherpa more often it's helpful just to see your advice and clarity on giving those tips as well
This was actually very fun to watch
Finally I have an opinion on how to get good with datto
For people struggling with overload, use chill clip freeze after you stun them to prolong them being stunned.
What about unstoppable? Scout Rifles are not working on them.
@@gudgurl Chill clip and conditional finality works on Unstops as well.
Do you have the artifact mod unlocked for that?
@@Th3RazieI Yes I do, when I shoot at them directly with a scout, any scout, doesn't work.
Found some ppl complaining about that on reddit but nobody can point it what's happening, if it's actually a glitch or whatever.
@@poppinlocks2043 Ty for the reply, but I'm talking about just shooting at them with any scout rifle, that used to work before Lightfall.
Please continue to make these! Id watch every week if there was a coaching session with you. Absolutely loved it!
I don't blame anyone for using Wish-Ender in Master content because it shreds shields and does massive single-shot damage. It's a slower Arbalest with infinite ammo.
"With infinite ammo"
Idk I'd I've run out of special since season 20 started, machine guns have become my primary so I hardly use my special
This is a great vid
Clear examples, good simple advice. And never dismissive of the player
Thank you for the effort
Really appreciate this kind of content!
We NEED this type of content to be consistent, this is amazing
Would love to see more like this. Thanks for giving feedback in a constructive manner, and big thanks to the player for submitting their recording.
Oh my this is a big boi of a video
I am probably not the kind of player this content is meant for, but I still enjoy it a lot. Definitely would enjoy seeing more of this.
Datto has become Destiny’s resident Chad and I’m here for it
I love throwing these videos on at work, dialogue heavy with a good video length and a lot of analysis.
I watched the lost sector analysis from the stream vod and loved it and I'm very happy to see a dedicated video.
Id love to see more of these
Cheers
Datto teach me how to commit tax fraud please
I’ve been waiting for something like this, a break down on how to get better, new strategies, do’s and don’ts and how to improve overall. Looking forward to more.
just dont die and shoot enemies till they die works everytime
Really love this style of video! Thanks to all who submitted their gameplay; I know I personally would love to see more!
honestly i hope you do more of these.
Great Job!
Great video! Loved seeing coach datto live, and honestly thought it made a really good video! Can't wait to see more!
I wouldn't mind seeing more of these videos! Lots of good tips and tricks here!
The Danielle cameo and the “thanks buddy” made the video
This kind of content is important to highlight how people approach the game differently. Seeing the struggles and advice to overcome it is awesome.
This is the type of content we love to see! Keep up this type of stuff. Definitely great for the community
