Couldn't have said better. I don't care if Datto deviates or even completely gives up on Destiny 2 content, even though this might be highly unlikely ; I'll still watch his vids. At the end of the day, it's not only about the community's will, it's about yours. I love how the beginning of this video went. I “grew” up watching you when I played destiny. Even more for videos that I didn’t even “needed” to watch. I just enjoyed how you carry yourself off as a person. I stopped playing destiny 2 and lost hope but you, strangely, I still watch as much as I did the first time I found you. Keep grinding datto. @@PenguinsAreColdish honestly the game is so mind numbing at this point it's depressing crucible is the only thing I enjoy and even then it's starting to get quite stale
I couldn't imagine having my income hitched to any one gaming franchise. Unless, of course, I was employed by the developer (401k, health insurance, vacation, etcetera).
Giga Olive - I have no doubt those screaming the loudest will be back with the new expansion. To your point, this does happen every year and most are back. And if this expansion is as big and bold as most are speculating, the entire franchise will be reinvigorated.
@@shebdjsnwddjdnbssjbdbdbejd5589 The lesson is being presented but Bungie isn't learning. They are keeping the game alive (in varying degrees every season) but they aren't thriving. If they keep going along at half steam and only delivering proper content once a year eventually Destiny will die. Which is sad
I was 14 when Destiny came out and now I am 20 (almost 21). This game has been a significant part of my life, I've made very good friends through it and overall have many postive memories from it. I'm done with high school and now have to focus on old man shit. I don't want to grow up, I don't want this game to die, I wish I could just play this game all the time because honestly I have nothing else in my life.
Every person thinks like this when they’re 20. Coming from someone who just turned 40, enjoy everyday and see it as a blessing, because one day you will really be old, and feel old.
@@aaron805 39 here, i confirm what you said. ;) cheers from France everyone ! I’m responding late I haven’t played destiny in a while. You helped me through my moms cancer diagnosis just as much as d1 did. It really helped me through Highschool and I would’ve dropped the game after the initial storyline if it wasn’t for your videos showing me how to raid and level up for it. So thank you. You make a larger impact on people than you may seem. 8 years later and I still watch your channel even when I’m not actively playing the game or just taking a break. Glad you found a home and a family
Seeing Datto genuinely become more happy and more and more fulfilled as a content creator is so encouraging to see, and I feel so happy for him as well. I really admire how you want to improve yourself so much, and seeing how youve transformed yourself and grown is amazing. Keep it up.
Datto, I bought the Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition about two and a half (maybe three?) years ago. My parents had split, and the game seemed like a good way to take my mind off stuff. I'd watched a few UA-cam videos here and there, which is how I knew I wanted to try it, but didn't know anything about the game itself. I played through it, enjoying every moment of the story, Dark Below, House of Wolves and Taken King. I was a solo player, with no headset and no confidence to play with anyone else. And I was happy. Then I started looking for things to do. I scoured UA-cam looking at guides for Exotic quests and stuff (I wanted to know what was out there) - then I found your channel. Finally, I had found a channel that told me everything I wanted to know in a concise and entertaining way. I learned about quests, gameplay, memes, everything that makes Destiny what it is. And I became a part of the community. Now I play Destiny 2 every day (since lockdown) and have done since about February last year. I know the lore, I know the mechanics, I know the memes, everything that makes Destiny what it is. I know these things because your videos showed me what the game had to offer me. Suffice it to say, my time in Destiny would be nothing without your videos. I owe every second of joy to you, because without you, I'd be playing blind. Maybe I would have gotten bored. Thank you, Datto.
@@Anthix2204 Wasn't the nerf just that the splinter projectiles didn't penetrate shit any longer and it only got like 2 pieces of ammunition in gambit instead of 3? The thing still hits like a truck in PVE and crucible
I feel really bad saying this but in reality: for the amount of money and time i invested in this game, it was a major, major letdown. Emotionally I love this game, but critically it was a MESS.
yeah this accurately sums up my feelings, sure now its not so bad because most of the games free, but beforee that you had to spend up to $300 on the game to stay relevant, and once again at the time the content was not justifiable. still had so many great times and made many great friends will be back for the darkness, but my god what a frustrating experience
I played Destiny late, never played D1. Started game with Forsaken, it was hella fun. Seasons started, was okay except Drifter season. But the Forsaken Digital Deluxe was worth it i guess. And now we got Shadowkeep, i pre bought the Digital Deluxe and now regretting it lol. Shadowkeep was eh, undying was meh, didnt play season of Dawn much, only grinded in the current season cause i wanted to get some stuff done (Luna's and other shet)
I dunno. I've spent, what, 300 dollars maybe? 400? No damn clue, but I have a few months of playtime with the 2 games combined, and some people have a lot more than I do. Like, a LOT more. Anyways, that's, what, 1500ish hours? Give or take? I like to do the math for video games on what each hour costs me, and that comes out to 20 cents per hour. I'm happy with that. I think Terraria and a few other indie games might have it beat, but overall... That's not a bad way to spend money, in my eyes. That said, whether it's a good way to spend time is a whole other discussion.
Destiny truly is THE strangest and most inconsistent game I've ever played, with the highest highs and the lowest lows. As a Devil's Advocate type whose motto is "expect nothing and you'll never be disappointed", I always have hope for this game. I've quit Reddit and I'm not on Twitter, and I find that staying away from those mountains of salt has considerably improved my experience. Everyone should always form their own opinions on content instead of piggybacking off of the general perception. I think that would improve everyone's enjoyment of the game considerably. That being said... I think I qualify as a bit of an apologist, but I would really love to see what goes on from a decisions perspective inside Bungie. It's clear that they're very stressed right now, what with the pandemic and their cut workforce and a legion of angry gamers lambasting them at every opportunity, although not without reason (and sometimes without reason). They seem to have a problem with realizing that something is going the wrong way before having it go off the rails: bounties, for example. And at the same time, they keep adding fantastic new features and then not following up with them. The concept of the Chalice went away (although the idea of the REDACTED engram as a kind of reverse Chalice is encouraging), set bonuses, a real staple of MMOs, were never iterated on after Drifter, and big puzzles that drive community involvement are few and far between, likely because of workload. Simultaneously, they make the same mistakes over and over again with sandbox balancing. They say, "wouldn't it be cool if?" instead of considering the repercussions. Who thought it was a good idea to have infinite reload (from only two sources) or dropping Whisper in it's Black Hammer state only to inevitably nerf it or wall hacks and One Eyed Mask, who on Earth looked at Xenophage in Gambit and said, "yeah this is fine" or Antaeus Wards in PvP blocking all damage when sliding and not seeing how impossible it is to counter? I love it, man, but this game is cursed.
I’d forgotten abou that actually - like the whole you get stuff if you get 4 kills in an invasion Is really cool and rewarding in the spot - you happen to get 4 kills, boom reward instead of knowing what your going for then eventually getting it which is more relief than joy
Omni Star 1k is by no means broken in gambit - I can agree with izanagi being v. Good (although runs out’ve ammo if your trying to use it for dps as well as pvp cos when primeval starts there ain’t enough ads) but xénophile is defo way better than 1k at least for pvp (in gambit) and good enough pve wise that I’d say it’s more useful unless you’ve got a sniper and event aim as ur secondary
J P forgetting activision and some other studios were behind forsaken-shadowkeep. If the next season and fall update sucks then yeah it’s a definite quit for me
Idk if I’ve ever had as much fun in a game as I did during Forsaken. And the thing that kind of sucks of having an ever changing game, is it’s not possible to go back. Was hoping that shadowkeep would bring the same level of enjoyment but it just didn’t. Now really all I do is watch Datto even though I don’t play the game anymore.
Well I have been a Destiny fan since the ps3 beta and I have been leaving and coming back several times now. Beyond Light has been great for me, and you Datto, you are always here to help me on my adventures... thank you for that.
The best part of this video was listening to you talk about your self-improvement and relationship. It is very easy to hear the happiness in your voice when you were talking about that, especially at the script writer part. All the best to you Datto

I've never been more disappointed with a game that I sunk over 3,000 hours into. They just always drop the ball. I don't know if they can ever make the game they set out to make.
@@TheOneAndOnlyLUUUU exactly. I was so pumped when the first few trailers came out and was so excited for what the game would be but they just never hit the mark. One part of the game would be good others would be trash it's just a very frustrating franchise.
@Pure i hate this stupid anti-circlejerk that goes on about how terrible it is that reddit dares to be negative about the game. it absolutely deserves everything they say about it because as datto mentions, this is the THIRD time bungie has fucked up majorly and it's not surprising that the community is starting to get frustrated. on top of nerfing things we love hard because they're used a lot, they also want to throw our favourite weapons in the trash because they hate fun. i don't think bungie will ever recover until they realise that player fun should not be rationed and controlled and it should be embraced and nurtured instead. but until that happens it's just going to be an endless cycle of shit, trailers hyping things up, disappointment and boredom.
2:44 - 2:56 I had to come back to this. There are tons of people and streamers unironically saying right now that they think in retrospect double primary was better. We are literally caught in a time loop.
You know, as burnt out as the year of the stalling has made me, What you said gives me hope for the future. I believe, if anyone can pull out a final trick on the brink of collapse, it's Bungie, because Destiny, like you said, is resilient. It's gone through some of the worst periods I've ever seen a game go through, and then pull itself back up, and give us something that reminds us why we love the series so much to care about it the way we do.
I honestly can't remember the last time that the "it's just a beta" excuse actually panned out, and the game got better (or even substantially different) from the beta. Might've been back in the PS2 days.
Games that go on beta these days are code words for "marketing tactics". If the game already has a set launch date, then don't expect the developers to actually fix anything in time for the release. The beta is there to bring exposure and garner interest for potential sales. But don't blame the developers for it. Blame the publishers.
@@NoxinPistol Open betas are never meant to have large changes before release, they're used primarily for server stress test and other large scale technical aspects that they can not test in house. I would love to see another retrospective video when the three year mark hits for this video. 10 years of Destiny: Datto’s Destiny 2 Retrospective. I’m almost as hype for it as I am for Light Fall.
I just can't care anymore. I'm trying, but I can't. I started the last DLC, the earth gets attacked, "Rasputin is our only hope if humanity is to survive... but first, collect 20 orbs of light, so the story seems longer!" It's embarrassing.
The Tallest Dwarf I played the dlc a bit the first couple weeks, hit 1008 on my hunger and grew bored of this season. Came back to get the petting the cat emote but that’s been the highlight of the season for me
Came back for heir apparent but the whole ordeal was not much fun. Im trying to get a few drops the last 2 weeks of season. Ive had much more fun in Deep Rock Galactic
Just brings a tear to my eye seeing where Datto is now. I remember when Destiny’s betas we’re running and iron banner was the place the be. It made me smile seeing where this was gonna go and now years later I’m smiling for a different reason as I see him mature just like I did throughout the years. Hoping for nothing but the best Datto.
I only started playing during beyond light, but I love this video and your channel. I've watched this video maybe 6 or 7 times, it's awesome to see how far the game has come over the years.
Hearing you talk about how "We're listening" doesn't cut it anymore was unexpected but very refreshing and necessary to hear. The state of D2 is worrying, especially since on Steam the playercount has been slowly hitting new lows and the mood towards the game is more bitter than it was during the Season of the Drifter days. Hopefully if Bungie hears anything, they hear it from you as a general reflection of how people feel towards D2.
I didnt care about season 11 but god damn it destiny just keeps bring me back. So now i have to PRAY this next season hits and i hope bungie has truly listened.
Most of this was stuff I already knew, but that way you masterfully presented it kept me rivited. ! Favorite video I’ve seen from you, man. Really well done. Thank you!
@@bloodline271 Absolutely right. It's their livelihood so of course they'll continue reporting on it. The issue with them is that they don't always admit when Bungie is wrong and accept a lot of the changes so that they're on their nice list.

Datto, as a player that start to play destiny in CoO (yes, surprising, i know), the person that accidentally found your channel, your twitch, subbed to you on twitch on day one of SoS, and now somehow worked my way to be the clan admin of FPS, I truely, truely thank you for all you have done. Personally, not sure if you remember this, but I did commented in chat in your stream, you streams and video helped me through all the difficult times of me studying abroad along, long distancing with my girlfriend. Untill now, while I am writing this paragraph, I still have one year to go, and your content, bundled with destiny, is one of the main fuel that pushes me to walk through life, no matterr how tough it is. Social wise, I am never a social person, I can talk with people, but I am not the type of person that will go out to pubs or clubs, thus I found home in video gaming. Datto your content has led me to know one big group of wonderful people in the sub clan, and until now, while the people in the sub clan has never met physically before, are still one of the best people I have met. Remember the giant donation that I helped to deliver, donated by the sub clan? That is just the small portion of how much we love and appreciate you. All said, in the end, Datto, thank you very much, keep being the original, funny, goth, sarcastic, and occationally toxic(towards your friends KEKW) you, you have forged a community around you, and we all love and appreciate you.
Hey Datto I wanted to say thanks for sticking with us for 7 years. I haven’t enjoyed D2 as much as I wanted to and haven’t been able to play it as much as I wanted to, but I’ve still always looked forward to your videos. Whether they be Destiny related or something else, I really enjoy watching them. It’s amazing to me that the same guy that guided me through the D1 year 1 Thorn quest is still with me today helping us through D2. I just wanted you to know we appreciate you as much as you appreciate us.
Man, year 7 of destiny. Some of us went through a long journey. Well, i hope it doesn't end here. Thanks Datto for all your work. You are a great member of the destiny community, and i hope it stays that way.
Honestly, I loved your variety content a lot. Your chemistry with the dream team and friends is hilarious and goofy, your silly and sophisticated brand of humor is really entertaining and unique. Just remember that even if destiny fizzles out, you have made a place for yourself as a content creator and you have a fanbase who watches you for you rather than just guides :)
You've come a long way man. I remember following your channel when D1 was announced, and you already looked like a competent content creator back then, so I decided "yeah, this is definetly the dude to follow". I was not mistaken. Thanks for all the fun videos you made, and I wish you all the best for the future!
Hands down my favorite Destiny UA-camr. I've been watching your videos since D1 and the quality, consistency and straightforwardness never fails and never gets tiring. A very clean summary of D2's history, and personal experience. I hope Beyond Light brings a breath of fresh air for yourself, and the rest of us, only time will tell.
Man I was emotional at the end since the "if someone can make a comeback is Destiny" and as you got more personal I got more emotional. Thanks for everything Datto, we love you.

Datto, you're the one of the reasons I love destiny. You talk in such a way that just is fun to listen to, you make destiny much more interesting than it already is.
Love when he mentions finding a wonderful partner, it's a shot of Sharkk, Danielle, and Mr. Fruit. I wonder who he meant when he said that. I personally suggest a fight to the death to decide.
Thank you for your guides and perseverance. You are part of what makes destiny good in my eyes. Sure I play the game Emmy way but having you here as another point of inspiration. It just pushes me forward in terms of what I want to do. It rekindles love for games and modes I haven’t touched in a while. You are part of what keeps me moving forward in the game world and I thank you for that.
i’ve been watching you for as long as i remember anytime xur was her in year one i remember always watching your videos to see what was worth getting im glad to see your still playing destiny i myself am not i miss d1. love you man glad to see your still doing good
7 year retrospective..... Oof, 7years. You'd figure with Bungies love of the number 7 they'd have the game fixed by 7 years 😂😂😂. Damn, can't believe it's been 7(ish) years since I did my first destiny raid with random level 27s from the tower.
The part with Danielle was so cute! I can also kinda relate to it since I found my bf trough Crown of sorrow, we‘ve been together for almost a year now! Destiny changes life’s man!
I remember watching a channel called “Destiny Updates” and going wild with speculation before release. I imagined I would camp outside a cabal fortress at night with my fireteams waiting for a hole in the cabal patrols to sneak in. But nah, we just disintegrate them like nothing.
Wait, 46 minutes? Damn, your voice is too soothing. I sat through waves of nostalgia from seasons 1-7. Definitely qualified for much more man, definitely.
You rock datto. I just came back to destiny. Been around since year 1 and I've always loved your content. It's too easy for us consumers to forget the stress and work that you guys put into this. Keep it up brother!
I know this is a Destiny Retrospective but this meant more to me as a Datto Retrospective and all I can say is that I am so happy for you and have nothing but love for you. In these crazy times you gotta keep your mental state positive and surround yourself with those whom you love and love you. Much respect to you brother and keep on growing!
You know, I've not always agreed with your stance on many things, mostly when it comes to game difficulty (of course, it's not as easy as 1-2-3 to fine-tune a game), but I will say this: if there's one content creator I can always come back to for this game, that won't just metaphorically suck it's dick, or adversely, talk shit about it until the cows come home, it's you. Plus, watching you pull yourself up, and put yourself in a good place, is inspiring me to try and do the same, and while I haven't made a massive amount of progress, I can say that I feel better than I have in years. It's nice to see a content creator level with their community, and show themselves unabashed, is really influential. Thank you for being with the community. Here's to your 8 years, and hopeful, 8 years more. Cheers.
Happy for you man. Been watching since the PrimeGuard days, seeing your personal life and happiness improve independently of Destiny is great to see. No matter what the future holds for you in content creation, I'm sure your viewers have been happy to have been along for the ride.
Love how you open yourself up to the Destiny community and your subscribers. To your walk through the park about your move. To your retrospect vids. This is one of the many reasons you connect so well with your followers and are so well liked and respected as a content maker. Also glad you have found a middle ground on your work life balance. Keep up the great work!!
"Destiny 2 didn't feel like a continuation to Destiny 1 year 3, but more like a continuation of Destiny 1 launch".... truer words were never spoken. I still haven't gotten over my utter disappointment of the D2 launch, and sadly, it hasn't gotten all that much better since. This is what always confuses me, it felt like Bungie was on the right path at the end of D1, and instead of moving forward they have taken so many steps back since. Why? And I don't want to hear that it was Activision, I think it's clear by now that it was not Activision, there is something fundamentally wrong with Bungie and how they plan this game.
I think it was already discussed all over the community that Activision wanted the game to be more casual, so it can lure a much larger playerbase. Hence the changes made in D2 vanilla.
It's Luke Smith, his vision for destiny is what's destroying and dumbing down the fundamental idea of how this game works. Forsaken wasn't even directed by him which is the exact reason it was such a great expansion. Luke Smith is a plague to the reputation of bungies past, and could never Capture the innovation and ideas that were brought with halo, and some of destiny's best moments
@@lanz622 that may be the case but what has Bungie done to make the game better since they left Activision. IMO nothing, they've only made it worse. If the idea of being less casual is mindless grinding and bounties, no thanks.
I've been a subscriber to you Datto since the days of The Vault Of Glass. Watching how you had improved yourself, and your UA-cam channel from what it was to what it is now is truly special. I used to be one of those subscribers that only subscribed for the Destiny content, but over the years of watching your other videos from Golf With Your Friends, MH:W, to even the makeover videos back in 2017, I've became invested in you as a content creator and less of the content you were creating. You had showed me that I can improve myself no matter what it was. You've been an inspiration to me, showing that "there really is a light at the end of the tunnel". Even when I had completely disconnected myself from reality and from Destiny, I found comfort joy watching your videos and streams. Thank you Datto for everything you have done, and continue to do. I'll still be a supporter of your content, regardless of what it is.
I’ve been watching your content since I started playing Destiny (around the release of House of Wolves) and you have been by far the most consistent, easy to listen to, and In depth UA-camr for this game. Thank YOU datto for making raids less frustrating with your guides, for making exotic quests easier to understand, and just for your voice!
Glad so much is going better for you. I put 1,100 hours into destiny and when destiny 2 dropped I play it for 30 and stopped because of all the reasons you mentioned in this video. I just started playing again three days ago and this channel was my first stop to catch up.
Been with you since day 1 D1. I have always enjoyed your array of content and insights as well as rooting for your personal health and happiness. Giga Olive - I have no doubt those screaming the loudest will be back with the new expansion. To your point, this does happen every year and most are back. And if this expansion is as big and bold as most are speculating, the entire franchise will be reinvigorated.
They certainly proved that the game isn't worth our time thats for sure, the game right now is approaching D2 Y1 levels of trash again.

I feel really bad saying this but in reality: for the amount of money and time i invested in this game, it was a major, major letdown. Emotionally I love this game, but critically it was a MESS.
Same i spent hundreds of dollars and im just realizing it now like holy shit
I've spent less than $20 on this game and have hundreds of hrs of content at my disposal
yeah this accurately sums up my feelings, sure now its not so bad because most of the games free, but beforee that you had to spend up to $300 on the game to stay relevant, and once again at the time the content was not justifiable. still had so many great times and made many great friends will be back for the darkness, but my god what a frustrating experience

Xenophage in gambit is fine but izanagi and one k are monsters izanagi so underrated for invading and dps
destiny is a cycle of shit and good
I’d forgotten abou that actually - like the whole you get stuff if you get 4 kills in an invasion Is really cool and rewarding in the spot - you happen to get 4 kills, boom reward instead of knowing what your going for then eventually getting it which is more relief than joy
I miss the forsaken days man, that was the shit and a major point in my life
J P forgetting activision and some other studios were behind forsaken-shadowkeep.

Forsaken? How about taken king my friends have said this for so long why don’t they just remaster d1 and put it on pc too

Games that go on beta these days are code words for "marketing tactics".
If the game already has a set launch date, then don't expect the developers to actually fix anything in time for the release. The beta is there to bring exposure and garner interest for potential sales. But don't blame the developers for it. Blame the publishers.

It's nice to see a content creator level with their community, and show themselves unabashed, is really influential.

hi datto, just used one of your tutorials to do crown of sorrows for the first time. made it easy to learn the mechanics.
@@scottmarikirito1719 Mark Noseworthy has had trouble figuring out what a god roll is, and was also overwhelmed by the D1 skill trees.
"datto rants about how everything about destiny 2 is bad besides forsaken for 46 minutes" oh do i love you datto
And now we met again friend!
xed you forgot the season of opulence
@@alexlikesdalex5680 yeah season of opulence was easily my favourite time in destiny, despite the auto-reloading nerf. can't blame datto saying that
@@dankerbell Shadowkeep was good, but didn't live up to all it's expectations unfortunately.
season of dawn was also great, then it went downhill hard
“what could they possibly do for season 11?”-seems that destroying half the planets on the roster worked wonders,or at least the hype got up
How to get new players to grind their life away before new expansion 101.
maybe the latter but NOT the former
Lmao y'all completely missed the REASON for this happening
Watched every second of this video. Very well done. Here’s to “Retrospective 3”. Cheers
Congrats datto! Still the go-to for everything destiny :)
As a married man with kiddos it is very heartwarming to hear your interactions and descriptions of your relationship with Danielle.
Keep it (all) up and stay sane. Thank you for all the work you’ve done over the last 7 years. Cheers.
Around the 21 minute mark with Danielle wholesome
The deep sigh really hits.
Bit late but datto I’ve been watching you since high school and just wanted to say thank you and I love you and your personality and your content, I’m glad you’re happy (I hope you are, don’t know if I got the wrong message on that) and how much you’ve grown and continue to do whatever you want because I watch you because it’s you. (Destiny is a love hate relationship for me but as always you hit the right points)
i’m so glad datto is happier, one of my favourite youtubers because of his straightforward talks and someone that doesn’t hype up the little things but sees them in the much bigger picture, like he mentioned. i’m happy for him
Mental health is key. Glad you’re doing better and I’ll always enjoy the content you bring the world. Thanks Datto
“I wanted to look better feel better” that hit hard

марк сафронов thank u my son
Thanks
I found this guy during the destiny 1 alpha when I wasnt sure what character to choose. I haven't really played destiny that much but it is mad to see how much his channel has grown
Thankyou for doing what you do Datto. I often think about how difficult it is to be such a hard destiny fan at times, I can only imagine being a destiny content creator. I appreciate you and the strains you put on your personal life to make this thing happen.
Cant wait for the next destiny retrospective
