awesome inspiration. have been looking at complete units and realized there's nothing extremely fancy about closets. This was the first DIY video i found and has given me the confidence to try it!
Thanks. For a project like this, you wouldn't want to save a few dollars on material. It's actually birch. The cheaper plywood just isn't good quality. Oak would also do.
At the moment I'm not planning on a drawer tutorial. But to get them even when closed you need to make sure they are 100% square and the slides are all lined up and level. My first drawers didn't close well but with 42 drawers in total I had plenty to practice :-) I didn't know if I'm able to build this closet but I just tried and I think it turned out pretty nice.
Beautiful job. Any chance you can show a video of you breaking down the full sheets . I have the same slider and would love to cut full sheets long ways. Just like you did here. Thank you
This is FANTASTIC!! Question....what are those wood things you keep setting down as you put the cabinets together...is it like a premeasured template to you get the distance between shelves the same for every cabinet? Was the tape on the floor for the same purpose? I would love to see your drawer schematics if you'd ever want to share them? We are building a new house and want to do a similar project for our master closet which is about the same size as your space. Very cool!
Yes, I used templates to get the spacing exactly the same. The tape on the floor was used to lay out the island. Wanted to see how big it should be and how much space I would have on all sides before I built it. I can share the plans but need to make them pretty first. I'll probably do a video for the design/plans.
1 coat of Primer (Zinsser 1-2-3 Bulls Eye - Home Depot) 3 coats of Cabinet Paint (Acrylic Base) (Rustoleum Transformation Pure White Cabinet Paint - Home Depot) Sprayed with GRACO Airless Sprayer. Sanded between each coat.
Hooks were not the problem. The plastic hangers didn't bear the weight why I switched to wood hangers later. They had a good deal at HOME Depot. 5 Hangers for $3.99
The single cabinets are crewed to each other. They are not secured to the floor or wall. Their own weight keeps them in place. They are so heavy they don't move at all.
The room size is 18'x12'. How much space you need for an island depends on different factors and your personal preferences. Our cabinets are 2 feet deep. That narrows the "free space" for the island down to 8ft. Our island is 3 feet wide. That leaves us with 5 feet left resulting in 2.5 feet "walkway" on both sides of the island. In my opinion that's enough space to comfortably walk around and also to fully open all the drawers.
It took my wife and I approx. 6 month to build the closet. But we worked only after hours and mainly Saturdays. I think the most time was spent on painting. Takes a while to prime, sand, paint 3 coats.
Correct, it's not secured to the wall. The initial plan actually was to put a 2x2 on top of the cabinets and screw it all together to the wall. But as the single cabinets are connected to each other it's already extremely heavy and also stable so that we decided not to screw it to the wall anymore. The cabinets don't move at all. One side was even so tight to get it in that I had to use a hammer. It's impossible for the cabinets to tip over.
The cabinet base I built out of 2x6 is actually slightly taller then the baseboard so I just left it in as it doesn't interfere with the cabinet. But you're right, could have removed it too.
I’m left with more questions than answers. What did you do rent a warehouse? Do you own or work in that warehouse? How does one go about getting a warehouse? Why the $$$ in your thumbnail? Completely out of place. It’s a shelving build not a rap video or a sleazy crypto commercial. PS awesome edge banding.
Beautiful!! , just sent this to my boyfriend I hope he can build it for me ❤😂 I’ve always dreamed of a walk in closet & makeup area !
You can do it!
So with the help of my father and father in law we were able to do this. Thanks for the inspiration nothing really hard or too pricey to do it!
I'm glad it helped. Please share some pics.
This is my dream closet! Your attention to detail is amazing and it inspires me to get started on mine. Wonderful job guys! Thanks for sharing.
You can do it! Thank you

Glad it was helpful!
Nice!! That table saw is a game changer!!
Absolutely. That was a good invest. 👍
Looks like you know very well what you’re doing, -. Great job!
Thank you very much!
that is insane amount of work
Yes, but every second worth it. We love it.
Fantastic video. I admire your work.
Thank you so much.
Absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you! 😊
Amazing ❤
Thank you

Thx 😊
Hermoso y gran trabajo!
Thank you
Do you have plans on how to make that island? It's exactly what I want with the butcher block and everything!
At the moment the plans are not "presentable". But I'm planning on doing a video to show details with plans.
What a build! And you didn't skimp on quality either using Maple plywood.

Awesome. Love it 🙂

muy bonito... saludos desde Perú
Thank you
Can you post the cad designs for the entire project, in addition to the base cabinet you already shared?
It's not ready yet. Might possibly be available in a few weeks.

Thx 😊
Can u do a tutorial on building the drawers? I want to try building some but always terrified of them ending up not even when closing
Hey! There’s a great channel called Bourbon Moth that has a few really good drawer tutorials - Check that out🤘
At the moment I'm not planning on a drawer tutorial.

I'm planning to build a garage cabinet during winter.
I'll show some details on how to rip 4x8 sheets long ways.
Amazing
Thanks
Increíble! Qué tipo de madera están utilizando?
Thank you. We used birch
the dresser in the middle of the closet, did you nail it down to the floor somehow? didn't see that in the video.
It's not secured to the floor. The island with the countertop is approx. 600 lbs. It's not going anywhere.
how did you attach all modules when they are already painted? a screw or a nail? and how to hide it? awesome job btw
The single modules are bolted together with small wood screws. They are almost invisible. Screw heads can only bee seen when you leave the walk in.
Looks amazing! what is the configuration of your table saw and did it come with the extendable arm?
Thanks. Standard Grizzly Sliding Table saw. Doesn't have an extendable arm.

What type of paint did you use ?

3 coats of Cabinet Paint (Acrylic Base) (Rustoleum Transformation Pure White Cabinet Paint - Home Depot)
Sprayed with GRACO Airless Sprayer.
Sanded between each coat.
Very nice build! A question: how did you attach face fronts to drawers? I see that there is no middle part and it’s just the frame. Thank you
Thank you.
That's correct, there's no middle part. The frame is simply attached with 6 screws from inside the drawer.
Cup hooks held that up foe painting??!!! I'm amazed.
Hooks were not the problem. The plastic hangers didn't bear the weight why I switched to wood hangers later. They had a good deal at HOME Depot. 5 Hangers for $3.99
@@ProjectDIY82 .?
@@ProjectDIY82 Actually I'm surprised that the hooks worked because plywood is fairly heavy.
@@cleoburrows It's heavy, but the hocks are strong enough. I was a little concerned about the hangers. Some actually broke during the build.
what design software did you use?
I'm using SKETCHUP Pro. It's $399 per year but they also have a free version with limited functionality.
How do you screw them in place?
The single cabinets are crewed to each other. They are not secured to the floor or wall. Their own weight keeps them in place. They are so heavy they don't move at all.
Looks great. Is the island anchored?
The island is not anchored to the floor.
It's so heavy it won't move.
nice
what is the size of the room?
18'x12'
Awesome!!! What are the closet dimensions?
Thank you. The room is 18' x 12'
@@ProjectDIY82 Wow, nice! That's huge, thanks for the quick response!
I want to know what is room size. How much space need to put an island on room
What size is that room
The room is 18' x 12'
How long did it take you to finish the project and how many people ?
It took my wife and I approx. 6 month to build the closet. But we worked only after hours and mainly Saturdays. I think the most time was spent on painting. Takes a while to prime, sand, paint 3 coats.
You should have a sliding door for your closet.
We considered one first, but decided against it. We have a slider for our pantry and it's awful. Leaves you with gaps everywhere.
How much did you spend on materials?
Approx. $5,000
How tall and how wide were each of your units?
Each side has 7 cabinets. 6 x 30in wide and 1 x 40 1/2in wide. They are all 8' tall on a 2x6 base.
@@ProjectDIY82 How deep are they? 24 inches?
@@cleoburrows They are actually 23" deep. That way I could cut 2 side panels out of a 4x8 plywood sheet.
23" each to account for the sawdust to make the cut 😮 good thing to remember
What was total costs?
Material costs approx. $5,000
Thanks.
👏👏👏👏
Thanks.
Would you provide the CAD drawings
I'm doing all my designs with SKETCHUP. Are you asking for a full 3d model or do you need assembly and/or part drawings?
@@ProjectDIY82 I think the 3d would be great but a plan view drawing my be enough, such as a cut list and the intermediate shelf heights, etc
Best

Time is $
and money is time :-)
That's a bedroom. Not a closet
True :-)

It's a barn.😊
What kind of wood boards are you using for the shelves and the actual closet?
I used birch plywood.
It's more on the expensive side but is very smooth.
Nice you can you remodel this place and build another one 3223 E 7TH STREET KANSAS CITY MISSOURI 64124
Unfortunately not :-)
