My mom recently showed me a great trick in her walk-in closet. Just inside the door she has a very small table with a tray and basket on it. As soon as she goes into her closet each day, she dumps her purse into the basket. She takes a moment to remove things to the tray that don't need to go back into a purse. The next day she can select any of her 50+ purses and place the important contents in, straight from the basket. I've incorporated this technique now. I use a lot more of my purses now since I have a central organizing area for them. Oh, and there is a small waste basket under the table for used tissues or unneeded cards or receipts. This system has really helped me.

A few years ago, I did exactly what you suggested. The seldom- used guest room on the other side of my bedroom wall was a too valuable piece of real estate to utilize every few years. I designed my dream dressing room. The only difference from yours is that there are doors on the portions holding my clothing as I hated things getting dusty that are seldom worn. I added a wine fridge for my precious vintage perfumes as fragrance collection is a passion of mine. I must, must get one of those LG steamers! 😍

I have a small closet, but between shelving, bins, hooks, good lighting and organization I really enjoy it.
(One of the best additions was the pull out rod to hang outfit of the day or to air out a lightly worn clothing before putting back)
You are right about enjoying your closet. When I revamped it, I donated so many things and now I just have what I really love

I’d been debating on finishing off my unfinished attic space to convert to a closet for years. I finally pulled the trigger 2 months ago and have done everything myself 💪🏼 but what really inspired me to move forward is seeing your closet regularly! It’s such a dream 🥰 Hoping mine is complete in the next month!!

Good tips, even for small closets. I bought mirrored doors, so that took care of the full length mirror, and I have a chair just outside the closet for sitting when I need to. I bought a rack for shoes, baskets and bins, a jewellery organizer etc. And these all have improved the function of my closet. I am working on purging and have bought less clothes this year because of your many tips. I am still a work in progress, so keep encouraging us with your great videos

OMG I wish I had a room dedicated to only clothes! I love the LG styler clothing system! It's amazing! I always organized by color in each category like short sleeves, long sleeves, and sweaters. Every year around spring time is when I start going through my clothes to see what I love and don't love anymore and donate it. Thank you for your ideas Shea!

What do you keep behind doors/drawers?
Also! I love the way you display your shoes and handbags on open shelving. I’m an interior designer and clients tend to stay away from exposed shelves because they’re afraid everything will get dusty. Do you find you have to clean often for that reason?

    • @missnobody9475
      @missnobody9475 5 років тому +1

I like exposed shelving because I won't remember what I have behind each drawer and I don't want to open up every dang drawer to find out. I can just look right at it. I experience mild dust in my well insulated home but if I left for a while it would be an issue over time. It just forces me to actually wear the items rather than sit and collect the dust like a museum piece.

Dress hanging tip! 🦋 I use two hangers for dresses! The first, as usual, holds the shoulders of the dress; the second, relieves the weight from the shoulders pulling (no matter how "lightweight" the fabric may be. The second hanger is a flat rod hanger, designed for hanging pants. If the hangers have some uniform dimensions, or the pant slot is wide enough for the first hanger to pass through, it is very easy to hang a dress in one, unfussy sweep. The second hanger, designed for pants, may hang either in front or behind the first hanger, and it may or may not aid in relieving the weight of the sleeves too. 🦋 I am a dress girl, and this is my method! It prevents the garment from becoming "tired," when the fabric at the shoulders pull from the weight. I do this no matter how long (year long or seasonal) a dress in hanging. Some I hang alone on pant style hangers, at the waist line. 🦋

This is a great video. I see a lot of comments below about people not having this size closet but that shouldn’t matter. My closet is just a normal walk in closet that I share with my husband but I have incorporated the majority of these suggestions. Organize by color/type. Have a place for a full length mirror and to hang outfit ideas for the day/week. Have good daytime lighting. I hang purses that I want to display from a simple hook on the wall, which doesn’t take a lot of room and still makes it look attractive. With a little creativity, most of these points can be applied to any size closet. Thanks again, Shea!

    1. Lg Styler
    2. Specific spot for everything ( belts, hats, jewelry, sunglasses etc)
    3. Hang or fold
    4. Organize by type and colour
    5. Daylight bulbs
    6. Seating
    7. Full length mirror
    8. Display (jewelry and makeup tray, handbags, shoes, flowers, candles etc)
    9. Utilize open wall space ( hook/rod to display outfit of the day, organize your week)
    10. Understand the goal of your closet

I have a small walking closet which I re did with shelving from the Container Store. I added the bright day lighting and it does make a huge difference. Organizing by colour saves time. Now, I can see everything and everything gets used. I loved the tips Shea, just sheer and plain organization whether you work with a large or a super small space like mine.

Dryel is similar to the chemicals used in dry cleaning...causes all kinds of health issues including cancer, which is no fun! Trust me, it’s better to use something like this that doesn’t use the chemicals! Even a the hand steamers or the dryers with steam functions are much better and safer unless you use chems in your washer or dryer!

I was blessed to find a vanity table w/bench and an armless chair at ReStore (Habitat for Humanity) for a total cost of $24!!!! I’ll paint them white (to match 2 IKEA PAX open wardrobes. And I’ll move in 2 IKEA Billy bookcases. The vanity table can double as a desk to jot notes for the day, etc. Thank you for inspiring me with a delightful winter project to bring more joy to my day!

I have a small to mid medium walk in closet. There are two shelves from floor to ceiling in there and where I hang there is double top and bottom which two of them I don’t do bottom! I have been purging it because I do not work anymore, ladies retirement is not a bowl of cherries especially if your husband is around alot🤪🤪👎, anyway getting rid of so many clothes, shoes, purses, jewelry to my friends before going to a donation center. This has been quite a chore but liberating. I still have lots to do but it is so so worth it so when you go into ur closet things re not all scrunched together. Thank you Shea for all your tips and suggestions! Hugs 💜💜

I have a walk-in closet, definitely not this large, probably a 10’x 10’ room converted. I have a pretty big round tufted teal suede storage ottoman from HomeGoods and it was an amazing purchase. It is awesome and has shoe pockets going around the interior. I use it to hold my flip flops and flat sandals, it helps store them in the winter and helps keep them all together for the summer.

I've purchased Samsung air dresser after I finished my giant dream closet room. I think that it is a helpful tool for giving your clothes " ironed affect " , but many people mistakenly believe that this tool can replace " dry clean " or laundering process and this machine can't . Even after using sanitize or normal mode perfume smell stays on my dresses. I use one spray of lv perfume and it's not overwhelming but machine can't remove that though Samsung advertisement showed the removal of smells. I've purchased the machine for 1 300 dollars and it looks very similar to yours.

I’m planning on having a half dressing/room half sewing room. This will help.

I have a California Closet design. My walk-in closet is no where as big as yours, but the reason I mention it is hanging pants, including jeans. I even surprised my designer when I asked her to provide the same height as my dresses for my pants. I bought skirt hangers and used them for my pants. I hate the creases that happen when you fold jeans or pants. That knee crease doesn't have to happen if you hang your pants up by the waist. That LG clothes refresher is amazing, but not for me.

Wow I am loving that LG styler. Didn't know that even existed. If i tell Santa I want that he going to tell me that's birthday, Anniversary and possibly next Christmas gift as well 🤣🤣🤪

We initially had the the “daylight” white bulbs (4000K) in our chandelier and it felt like we were in a waiting room. Had a few friends over to compare (fully removed bulbs), and out of the 4 of them only one said she could do both and the others chose the warm white.

That lg steamer is amazing. The price is not that bad either. If i had to wear dress clothes to work i would 100% buy. Fortunately for me my job went to casual every day instead of just Fridays!!!! Yea me.
