Lovely talk. My grandson is on the spectrum so we're slowly learning what he can and can't deal with. He doesn't like changes without pre warning we've discovered . He's only three and is still working on speech development, he had lots of melt downs before he could talk because he was so frustrated that he couldn't make his needs and wants known. He's now speaking 3 and 4 word sentences bot having problems still with hard consonants but lots of kids his age do. I've worked with autistic spectrum disorder children since 1974 and I've learned a lot over the years but learn new things all the time.keep up the good work, you'll help some other children by giving the information you've learned to others who are struggling to help their child. Because I'm her mother my daughter wouldn't listen to what I had to share with her so I encouraged her to seek out professionals which she did, thank heavens. Since I looked after him every day I recognized it early on and started working with him on some things but because I'd never developed a care plan for language development , just followed recommendations I didn't want to steer him in the wrong way so encouraged his parents to get that assessed and it's worked well. The thing that helped a lot for him was to begin attending a daycare program so he could see other children's behavior and speech, he's smart as a whip and it took no time at all for him to begin to talk and learn play skills. Thanks for sharing the video Sarah.
Thankyou so much. We just want to make sure that every child receives the help they need. It would honestly break my heart if anyone had go through the neglect i did while my mum tried to get the help she needed to support me! If you ever want to ask any questions, please do not hestitate to contact me :) All the best xx
