      The guy wasn’t the one with the problem tbh, firefighters typically love their jobs and I’m saying that as someone who is training to be one and working with them all the time. When he got the first call he wanted to go but said his wife shook her head no, then he really had to go when they got the second call. He wanted to do his job but was also trying to take his wife into consideration. Ik you wrote that comment a year ago lmao but idk here’s my thoughts

    My Sister's wedding reception was at our fire hall and in the middle of dinner we heard a huge a huge explosion and the building shook. A truck carrying jet fuel had overturned and exploded in the center of the village a 1/2 mile away. Needles to say there was a good portion of the FD in attendance and we all left including the Groom and 3/4 of the wedding party and my family.

    Well, that's what it means to be a firefighter, especially a volunteer one. Some calls come in at the REALLY bad times, be it at dinner, in the grocery store, while in the shower, or at your wedding.
    But it always shows of great honor when you still run. Because you can make sure, someone needs help, and that's why you do this. To be there and help when someone needs help.
    And it becomes even better, when your wife, or soon-to-be wife, understands and actually tells you: "Go. They need you." That's the BIGGEST approve you can get!
    EDIT: 3:06 Ah, that is the reason why she understands it so much... Yeah, that's really tragic and sad.

      For what it's worth, she seems to take his job seriously enough to accept it. Probably rooted in how she lost two of her own family - children, no less - to a fire. She did say, after all, that that's exactly what came to her mind when it became an all-call.

    • @Stargazzer811
      @Stargazzer811 5 місяців тому

      You must not be familiar with the concept of volunteerism. St. Paul Park is a small city of about 5200 people with 1 fire station that covers the city as it's first due area, which is 3.6 square miles. It also helps surrounding districts, for a total of 64 square miles. They probably have a handful of paid people, and the rest are probably volunteers in order to provide good fire protection and keep taxes low. By comparison my town has roughly 3400 people in it, and the local fire department's first due area, which it covers by itself, is 140 square miles. The difference? My local FD is 100% volunteer. Do the volunteers here complain about that? Hardly ever, because they enjoy doing it. Its not understaffing or underfunding, its a choice.

    Just think how traumatic it would've been for her if he would have gotten trapped in a burning house and killed that same day all because he chose to take the time off of running calls to spend personal time with her.

    • @josephbennett3482
      @josephbennett3482 4 роки тому

      @@Naturelady-rf5zx unfortunately for professional firefighters they never really have a day off because when they're not on duty they are always on call/standby for if they are needed at the station to run additional alarms during a structure fire tone out or mutual aide to other coverage areas.

    • @ataka2142
      @ataka2142 5 місяців тому

      @@josephbennett3482 It was a mutual understanding. I am unsure why you wrote it in such a way to make him look like a bad husband. It was a dire call, possibility of entrapments. As you could hear her in this video, "I got the rest of my life with him, you know, they needed him". The risk of injury or death in firefighting is always there, it wasn't just specially so for that one day.

Let’s be honest: If he would be in that Engine or not would not make a big difference. It’s his life, but I would stay with my wife on the big day. And yes, I know what I am talking about, I do this for a living, not as volunteer.

I have respect for anyone who Don's a seat of ppe and goes to work but I hold my volunteer brothers and sisters in just a little higher of regard because we do it 24/7/365 not just when on shift and getting paid to .. with all due respect

    • @drewchamberlain2389

      Mick Morel it makes a huge difference what happens if that family did not get out with small departments like that you may only get 3 firefighters on an engine. That’s not a lot of manpower to go around to fight a structure fire trust me because I am a firefighter who works and we get 3 guys on a truck by the time that first mutual aid engine arrives on scene it’s a thankful sight to see someone is coming to help. Being in an area where there are no fire hydrants every truck that brings water to a scene is a valuable part. It’s an amazing thing to serve and be apart of this brotherhood.

      Ehh...depends where you're at. We have volunteer departments to our east who won't answer their pages, so we have to cover our town of 13,000 with 4 personnel along with covering theirs. I get it it during the week when most are at work, but when they wont turn out at noon on Saturday or Sunday to pick granny off the floor, but all come out of the woodwork to go to an MVA, that's a problem.
