Watchin Grubby lately feels like a timetravler uploading videos. Like he was stuck in 2004 and played WC3 all day, now he is testin the new MMO based on the stratgy game he enjoys.
War3 is D2LoD heroes, other mechanics translated/updated to WC lore with base building added. It looks like Blizz then didnt want to make an RTS at all.but still made it, perhaps, technology, internet usage was pretty low in say 2002 outside US/West Europe. At least this is the picture Im getting when reconstructing what I know/remember prior to WIII release.
first he switched to custom WC3 games, then he starts playing WoW. This is a natural path for a player. There are few more steps on this path, but let it take its own way
Grubby's brain is so analytical. He craves facts and want to know exactly how the game works. You can see a difference when Soda just goes with the feel and can play 20 years and now know exact details of stuff that Grubby asks within minutes of playing.

I mean, who wouldnt want to think they are actually very able to think things through piece by piece. It feels good but it doesnt provide best results always. That feely guy telling armor is no use, I guess he should say how many tanks with cloth armor there are and why. Iin pvp lock was ignoring armor so it was pain in the backside, same for SPriest. Prot War used to be very demanding and often not extra rewarding. Though the rest used to be even worse. Was told it was bad char, but managed to win in pvp very often when according to the 'opinion=fact' I was to lose. Prot pala was when I played was at first like 2x+ dps, but back in the day your taken dmg used to increase att power. And that was I think 20% max of your hp max. Then it was removed. Ultimately, seasonal gear reset was an insult to the face. Ilvl from 359-365 to 372, was when I saw that happen and I felt my barely getting to proper gear was taken away. Because immediately there was better ilvl available in shop. Compared to stuff I grinded for a few months I think. 14 years ago. Leaving the folks telling them bye wasnt pleasant, but I did that out of self-respect. Not at first my intention, and it wasnt free due to sub also. Most fun was reflect of polymorph.
This is really fun to watch Grubby learn! I've been lurking since early Hots days and finally I have something to add! Soda kept mentioning that armor is negligible and hes more of a "how it feels" player, but if you're a numbers person, then then it may be helpful to know that 25 armor is about equal to 1 stamina. Some attributes are different per class, but that is one that is globally true. Hope it helps 🙂
armour are allso % based the amount off dasmage they remove from mobs hitting you from total damage so if you do -3damage+%off that its an huga diffrenses
back in the day armor used to give phys dmg resist, but if they were higher lv, dmg reduction was lower. Same with dodges, blocks,. Not bad memories but glad I never went back. Prot war pvp in cata :P
it is not globally true. stamina can be made stronger with talents, like the warlock's "demonic fortitude." Also, this simplification doesn't account for the increased benefit of armor over stamina for classes with self-healing
Time-lines are a trip. In 2008-2012 I would've already quit wc3 and been doing exactly what Grubby is doing now, eventually reaching gladiator. Meanwhile 2008 Grubby is at the height of his wc3 career. Now Grubby just started his WoW addiction, and I recently came back to Wc3. Never thought it'd be possible.
Grubby, a good keybinding strategy that I use is to bind things by category. For example, defensive abilities use the control modifier, offensive CDs use the shift modifier, no modifier for main rotation etc. Advanced tip: No modifier on abilities you may need to cast while running around (say you are running from a creep and you have an instant cast slow that you want to cast on the creep while running for example). Advanced tip 2: high value keys like "f" "e" "c" "q" I use for abilities I need fast reaction for, such as abilities that interrupt a spell (like a kick, stun, disorient, fear, etc). Advanced tip 3: Macros can be really good, especially for controlling your pet, and help to get rid of bloat. For example, you may want to macro your dot with your pet attack so that you can save a keybind (you probably don't want to macro petfollow to anything however). The strat can help your brain memorize spells and make keybinding a bit more organized so you don't get overwhelmed. OH SHOOT IM DYING *all of my 'when im dying abilities' are in the control modifier. I use an MMO mouse which makes this strat work even better, but organizational keybinding is worth considering even if you don't use one IMO. Good luck!
Don't worry too much about back peddle, WOW is pretty casual and unless you are PVP there's no need to minmax that much. another cool trick is the jump 360, basically when you are running forward, you can jump, and while in the air, you can mouse turn 180, cast at mobs following you, and turn the other half way before landing, and it won't slow you down and don't require strafing in random directions. of course it only works on insta cast spells, but also works for ranged attacks for hunters.

You can turn while casting - Hold the right-click button on your mouse while casting (when enemy in not in front of you) it will save you time and kill enemy quickly.
If you want my advice regarding tab, it is useful as a targeting tool, but don't let it become a crutch. When strafing away from target, as a caster will usually do, it can become hard to rely on. Soda as a mere warrior, child among the classes, would know little of this.
You should always start a fight with your longest cast time spell first, then follow that up with an instant if you have one, then continue casting as normal. This gives you more time to cast spells before the target gets to you.
@Grubby autolooting in the first playthrough noo.. It robs you of the joy of finding cool items and experiencing the story through the items you find. I think it should only be a thing for jaded players that don't care about all that anymore. Not for a Warcraft fan like you! :)

He would have missed for example the first pouch that he found, and the awesome feeling that goes with finding something nice. Or as I said, the immersion that comes with finding something that tells you about the mob you are killing. Linen drops from human casters for example. All of this adds to immersion. The way you say "junk" to me already explains that you have leveled several characters. This is not the case with him.

He should do things slow and learn at his own pace and find that magic in the game so many of us love. I guess I was just saying from a more seasoned point of view why autoloot is better when it comes to speed and efficiency but classic is a game that should be taken slow especially your first few characters
the big issue new players are having with this and its not their fault. But players try to "help" by telling you what you should optimally be doing and are always trying to give you the answer but everyone should let you make the mistakes and make the wrong choice because thats how you will get better and understand the game more. If you spend 1 min running in a circle looking for a drop to collect thats fine.
grubby content started to show up again cus of Onlyfangs and the RTS itch got me good, just finished instaling starcraft 2 again, and its a nice opportunity to play the Legacy of the Void expac as its the only one i didnt yet
9 out of 10 is better to stand your ground instead of running away. each lvl above you gives you 5% more xp and each lvl bellow you gives 10% xp less and from lvl 10 or something, every mob will be quicker than you. and when he is at 30 or 40% health he slows down a little

When running / strafing away right click screen/hold it at the same time and move it around to get better line of sight. Also MMO mouse infinitely superior to keyboard and should be used with keyboard. if you are having to stretch your hand around the keyboard during play it is subopt
Kinda wish Grubby would just enjoy the game and not do Hardcore off the bat, but either way the content is awesome. Enjoying this very much, hardcore is fun in its own right. But it's kinda magical just playing classic wow normally after having been a wc3 player.

Grubby, the flawed logic with thinking that if someone is inviting you to their layer and IS NOT griefing you because they're watching your stream is because they don't necessarily know ON THEIR layer what's happening AT YOUR location. In other words, where you're at on your layer vs. where you're at on someone else's layer could have very different outcomes, regardless of watching stream (assuming they're actually NOT at your location). Does that make sense?
im not too sure on that one... as much as i want to see grubby play wow, i dont really see it going that well bc soda and Onlyfangs probably expect a certain amount of dedication to it. and i struggle to see him putting in the hours as hes rather flighty with his games when they are not WC3. 3:13 (unsolicited gameplay advice) -you seemed to hesitate to right click the mob - and instead use tab to target it. -You don't need to prio "tab" for targeting, arguably, it's better to be targeting via the mouse because 'target nearest enemy' forces a random order of targets. You'll be target swapping a lot - so it's better if you get really good at selecting the target with your mouse. Tab is an option to use and is handy for spreading your dots quickly to many mobs. -And for zooming in and out, do it at your leisure.. Just be hyper-aware of your surroundings at all times, being zoomed while in the wrong area can cause a lot of confusion in a bad situation for any player. it's always fun watching people who are brand new to the game cheers
i honestly think every mob gives like 50xp when you are alone and every level it adds 5xp. So level 6 killing a mob alone who is also level 6 will give you 55xp, level 7 will give you 60xp and so on.
just looked it up, it’s exactly that. you are halfway through the game at level 44, as you’d need the same amount of XP it took to get to level 44 to get to level 60.

Griefing in hardcore sounds funny till you realize you can lose 100+ hours on a character. If you get to 40+ and get griefed most would just quit and not go agian.
Grubby, as a wc3 player (top 100 NA) and a titled mythic plus player -- do NOT fall into the WoW trap. it will dull your senses. you're too talented. it's akin to doing drugs or whatever analogy you want for killing brain cells

you get so much junk that not having auto loot slows you down. most mobs wont drop anything great and thats the game.

just looked it up, it’s exactly that. you are halfway through the game at level 44, as you’d need the same amount of XP it took to get to level 44 to get to level 60.

@@Kinwika2 he actively plays against the best players what are you talking about? any time he queues on w3c it's against the best. he's 2400 mmr. playing WoW is objectively a brain cell donation. it's not about being a purist, it's about playing games that require skill/dexterity/analysis (elden ring and even turn based games like mechabellum require some frontal lobe activation)
