The way the conversation flows between Grubby and Soda is just so fluid *chef kiss*.
Grub is well spoken and manages to express his idea/questions well, extra points it's so refreshing hearing thought of a newbie learning WoW for a first time. As for Soda, you can tell he's interested, both in conversation (he's a wow enthusiastic, he clearly likes to talk about any-wow-related), and keen on learning how to teach a newbie, so he can translate it to teaching his guild later on.
I put this on background and listened to the whole thing while playing Desert Strike matches, can totally see myself listening to this kind of collab as podcast during workout too etc...

PART 2 LETS GOOOOO i literally JUST finished the first ep. This is so fun to watch an RTS pro learning basic WoW mechanics from a WoW pro who just happens to be slightly terrible at coaching but trying his best nonetheless. great entertainment value here im loving every second of it.
best advice i could give is this: no matter how sweaty you want to be about min maxxing and mastering mechanics and game knowledge, at the end of the day, this game can still be played sufficiently without any of that. just take your time and go with the flow and youll be taking down fierce raid bosses and dominating epic pvp fights before you know it.

oh, and one more thing. Make that (Orc?) Shaman! Burst damage, versatile heals, travel form, tons of utility, waterwalking/breathing, low cd hearthstone, shield early and mail armor later on for extra survivability, etc etc. They are great in Hardcore, i dont care what any tier list or speedrunner says.

Hey Grubby! I can recommend straight up rebinding your number 2 (or "Q" or whatever "fast" hitting key feels comfortable) to pet attack.
There are times where you want your imp to cast first to effectively tank that mob, especially in cases of multiple mobs, then have the pet quickly switch to the mob you are killing.
Also when fleeing 4+ mobs it will make it easier to make your pet sacrifice itself for you while grabbing them off of you.
Hardcore wow is essentially learning how to survive getting chased by 4+ mobs, and when you have decent pet control you're golden.
PS. Remember to Mak'gora every hunter that needs your intellect gear! xd and GL out there

Some warlock pet tricks and shenanigans. Since felt soda didn't fully get across why pet control is important :p.
    1. You can have the pet attack before you do. Corruption does not actually draw aggro untill it deals damage, and immolate can be outdamaged by the imp at least at the start. You can literally get your full DoT setup up and be into your second shadowbolt before the mob even realizes it should be attacking you (no spell pishback the whole time)
    - Even more effective if you manually position the pet first with the move command so it's further from you.
    2. Canyion fishing. A niche case but VERY fun. Mobs... have sifferent pathing from players. Sometimes they can just straight up walk up walls and mountains. That includes pets. As such you can stand on the side of a canyon, send the pet down to attack a mob, then, by toggling between attacking and running back to you, keep the mob aggroed untill it reaches you. Safely fishing out a mob without ever risking your own life.
    3. Running away. (Caves especially) more important for other pets (that have an instant mele attack) is the ability to have them aggro things in front of you while running, when you would aggro them anyway. Then having the pet run with you, pets are affected less by daze (and better them than you) serving as an additional health bar. Otherwise, you will be the target.
Mastering even fundamental pet control can easily save your life in hardcore.

    • @notgarybrown
      @notgarybrown День тому +2

Hell yes. Just to add make sure the pet attack + return are given premium binds because they're fundamental to it all. I give it mousewheel up + down and it's beautiful. Gnome + imp in perfect harmony.

      @evsya7674 День тому

@notgarybrown for me I use X (attack) and ctrl+X (passive. Which also acts as retreat) with ctrl on one of my extra mouse buttons. Makes hotkeying a lot easier too having it that way x).

  • @RiskyDramaUploads
    @RiskyDramaUploads День тому +3

0:36 About grouping: grouping helps when you're doing a 'kill X number of mobs' quest. It doesn't help as much when doing a 'collect X items from mobs' quest, because the drops must be split. XP from mobs is split, but for party sizes from 3 to 5, there's a small bonus to XP. Groups can only go above 5 members if they are converted to a raid, in which XP is halved and most quests cannot progress.
But other than XP, groups are efficient most of the time: in a 2-person group, you get half the XP but should be killing mobs at least twice as quickly: only one person should be taking damage. There are a few quests, like "pick up items on the ground", where being in a group is strictly worse in terms of time, but you might also be killing mobs along the way.
In Hardcore, being in a group can also function as disconnect protection, but that doesn't help as much if you take on increased risk due to the increased safety.
I hope that you learned mob leashing mechanics and how to avoid daze later in the video: dazing is something that mobs in the starting zone don't do but understanding it is important to escape from mobs at higher levels. For mob leashing: even many long-time players don't fully understand how leashing works in a group, which can lead to deaths.

Warriors struggle 10-30ish, but once you get your important skills and more talent points --- and hopefully complete your whirlwind quest, the game really opens up - with warriors being one of THE best DPS and Tanks in the game. They're very over tuned late game in classic.
But those mid game levels are rough for warrior, enemies start to hit pretty hard - and your DPS output is kind of slow, so you struggle against more than 2 mobs. 4+ mobs in an equal level area are very easily a death sentence. I can't wait to see you learn about world buffs.
Hyperspawns is the server adjusting for high population in an area. It can be incredibly deadly in some areas with tough enemies that are required for quests. I've had a hardcore death in Westfall because the Defias Pillagers (the mob responsible for the most hardcore deaths at low level) all respawned around me shortly after I had just killed them. I was already at half health, low mana, and I didn't have time to drink. I attempted to run but they are casters.
Areas with lots of weak enemies can be just as deadly, especially murlocs. They respawn so quickly that it is easy to get caught in a never ending battle where you can't eat/drink or reset.
NEVER accept a party invite when you are in an area that has dangerous or lots of mobs. They might all be dead for you, but after you accept the invite - you will be put into their layer, or 'reality' for that area - and they might all still be alive and surrounding you. Always wait until you are in an area you know is safe to accept invites.
A long time ago, there was an instance where Blizzard forgot to make a demon raid boss immune to 'Enslave' - a warlock ability that temporarily enslaves a demon to serve you. The warlock enslaved Brutallus, a very difficult raid boss at that time, and somehow got him out of the raid/instance - and brought him to a capitol city; then released him on the low levels there.

There are less obvious benefits to playing together. The outside the box benefits include: Your inventory fills up slower when you are sharing loot, so you might not even need to delete stuff to make room for more important things, making the game more enjoyable. You can autofollow your mate, if you trust them to keep you safe while you don't pay attention or go afk. Being in a good group is less stressful than soloing, and it is less tiring to follow someone else's lead than having to make all the decisions and calculations like you'd do when soloing, which can lead into longer sessions and end up leveling you faster than you'd have the energy to do when solo. Efficient quest sharing saves you a lot in travel time, especially with dungeon quests. You are more likely to get the tag when spawn camping quest monsters when in a group, potentially saving you hours of frustration, since five people spamming their instant attacks are more likely to get theirs in than one.

33:00 in Everquest, the big MMORPG before WoW you could attack everyone. If you picked the faction Iksar (some Lizard), all other faction and nearly everything would attack you on Sight. This means you could never shop in safe towns anywhere. You had to grind hundreds of hours just to get accepted (not a good reputation).
The best thing: When you accidentally hit the attack button while shopping, the merchant and the whole city beat you down. But there were Iksar, Ogre and other players that would come to the Elven or human Capitol and kill every merchant, every quest NPC, even the mayor or king wasn't safe

If it doesnt happen in this video - you can right click the HUD frames for your unitframe and the enemies’ unitframe -> click unlock frame and it will allow you to drag it around the screen and you can re lock it. I like mine slightly above my cast bar and i pin them together so i can always see the percentages of both unitframes practically without having to move my eyes away from whats happening and up to the left corner where nothing is going on but that and i found it always jarred my movements or made me side step into more mob packs and it was always bad. Placing things out of sight of mind is bad “practice”
In this game i say this with a grain salt added in because everyone has their own taste. My retail and classic hud layouts look nothing alike but EXACTLY how I want them too. Just a piece of advice I had laid into my lap

Hi Grubby, love to see you playing wow and Hardcore no less! Hope you'll have fun. Here's some important advice Soda didn't mention (granted it's for later, but still):
In towns/settlements there's usually an NPC called . At this NPC you can set your Hearthstone to that location. After you've moved on from an area after completing the quests there, it's usually a good idea to set your Hearthstone to the next town/area you get to. So you can just use your Hearthstone to go back to complete your quests if some of them sent you all the way across the map. Or you can just leave your Hearthstone set in a big city.
Also, in towns/settlements there is an NPC called with a green exclamation mark above their heads. You NEED to click on this NPC in order to unlock your flight/fast travel to that location. The only Flightmasters in the starting areas for each race are located in the big city in that area (there is one big city in all starter areas). But after the starting areas, there can be multiple settlements with Flightmasters in the same area. It's usually a good idea to get them as you level, so you can make traveling easier.

When solo questing it's better to send your pet in first and then you start attacking imo.
Like send your pet on attack then you start attacking.
Reasoning is so your pet takes aggro first and you have more time to free cast without taking pushback.
But it really doesn't make a huge difference.
This is why I don't think pet classes are best for new players.
A lot of people recommend pet classes for new players but I disagree.
Mage is the easiest for new players. No pet, no stances, no forms, nor totems.
I would count stealth as a stance as well.
All of that stuff seems to confuse new players.

19:06 let’s see if he refreshes demon armor and if not let’s see if my ocd kicks in 😅 also a lot of moment/strafing and not back pedaling is getting use to controlling the camera.

Neither of these guys know anything about the other's game. I play both RTS and MMO so this is both painful and hilarious

Be ready to die, a lot. Hunter is a good class to get to 60 with at your level of experience. lvl 60 hardcore wow Will kill you so don't get too invested into your toon.
Enhance shaman levelling with backup intellect gear hybrid/heals in your bank for dungeons can also be good as tanks will take it slower on HC and wf totem is really strong.
If in doubt, just reset the pull; avoid damaging a mob as you run from it or it'll keep chasing forever.

Nah, noob hunters won't make 60. They will not know how to properly control pets and won't know about learning pet abilities. Most hunters also forget to train their defense and get crushing blows once they aggro and get 3 shot by a mob.
Paladin would be the easiest class for noobs imo.

8:09 I feel like grubby is trying to get at something similar to like scv rushing in starcraft
There is no rule saying you can't do something but is frowned upon, maybe like in wow killing hogger over and over or something. There nothing stopping you from doing that in hardcore might be frowned upon to not let anyone else get the tag.

Soda's lack of vocabulary makes him not understand Grubby a lot of times. Talents absolutely modify spells. I don't know why he couldn't understand even that simple of a word. Also, green is the best color ever for mob difficulty. You can generally kill them twice as fast and only get 10% less exp. It's much more efficient than killing yellow leveled mobs.
