I'm 64 and this crawling under my cars to do my own wrenching leaves a mark the next day. It must take a toll on people like Jonny, who wrench every day.
I'm turning 53 this month, and when you get to my age, it will be even less fun to to do those kind of twister game's in a car like that lol. You should be okay though, unless you end up cobbled up like i am, then it really gets challenging. G-d bless.

@@LoopBooost Yeah BMW intervals are way too long. I do mine at half the BMW intervals. Diff and transmission fluid at 40k miles too. Preventative maintenance.
I replaced the water pump and thermostat on my girlfriends 528 xDrive N52 last fall when I was 65. No lift, so I was using a creeper. Fairly easy job on RWD BMWs, not so much on AWDs since you have the extra crossmember. I was sore for the next two days! I now have a lift.
Literally just had my water pump replaced on my N55 2011 335i a couple weeks ago. About 81k on the clock. Thing went boom out of nowhere and lit up the screen with terrifying warnings.
Get rid of it immediately. 106,000 miles on mine. Replaced valve cover and gasket, 3 axles, water pump and thermostat (second time) and a couple other little things. My shop said the transmission is about to fail. Tired of fixing this car, which I loved, and bout a hybrid xse Camry. Not nearly as fast but 40+ mpg and much more reliable. 100,000 mile warranty. On top of the 30,000 it had on it.
People like the perceived prestige of driving a used BMW or any other European luxury vehicle but chances are unless they are the original owner they are stretching their budget to try and impress people they will never meet by driving a vehicle they can't afford to both buy AND properly maintain. They skip or defer maintenance and then complain when problems arise.
The most important part of this video was getting a used OEM water pump and putting it on until he got the new OEM pump in. Why is this important? He could have easily went and got an aftermarket water pump delivered from a parts store and sent the car. However, that is not what this shop is about. Or he could have said we can't get a water pump from BMW for months so we can't fix your car. He found the perfect solution to six the problem correctly as to what his shop does. As a result, that customer is not gonna go anywhere.
Only one thing i dont understand. Why is nobody using gloves while work ? Yes I know, its a little uncomfort, but still. When I was working at a shop without gloves I had dirty hands all week. You simply just cant make them really clean, while working every day on cars. In these days I wont work without nitrile gloves, you have the best possible sense and clean hands all the time.
M5 with manual transmission ... that's a jewel. Cars are getting more and more disconnected from the driver, so cars like this are the last of their kind.
That's crazy lol my 1989 Nissan Laural RB 25Det motor was unknown km but is tight, body was 110 000 km ,lux trim ,got basic link and big fuel pump lol but had few E36s ,E46s dam things are my nemesis lol😅😅magic chassis
BMW sure does use plastics parts at critical 'hot' locations! Durability overtime is questionable. Maintainability for people like Johnny... a gold mine!
I had a 2001 Isuzu vehicross that was built like a tank. I drove it to nearly 200,000 miles before a check engine light came on. Then, that was just a sensor. When i traded it at 200k miles, I still got around 9k for it. I don't know why automakers don't build cars like that Isuzu. It was the most solid car I ever owned. Never gave me any problems. The only other car I've had similar to that was a 2016 Mazda cx5. If somebody hadn't of pulled out in front of me at 55mph I would still be driving it. I had 155,000 miles on it and it had never given me any issue. I've also owned 2 bmw's now. They're trash cars. The amount of problems I've seen in bmw's is because of the designers of the cars. Its like the developers are so smart they intentionally design parts on bmw's to fail so greedy dealerships can make more profits. I don't think luxury cars are actual luxury anymore.
All supercharged 3.0t’s should have cold air intake. Sounds amazing! Also, no matter if the coolant pipe is leaking or not, if you are in there doing the pvc just change the pipe. It makes zero sense not too.
Have you tried pulling it out blowing on it and reinserting it. It is an N64 after all, oh sorry your talking about the car not the console. "Never mind". :)
5:24 I would recommend using a thermal imaging camera to identify hot spots when troubleshooting a battery drain. It would have picked up the running defective water pump.
Black wheels doesn't look good on any car in my opinion. Just looks like old, black steel wheels that have lost their wheel covers if seen from more than a few feet away...
Cool and calm as ever Jonny Ninja. I'm 74yo, finding it's getting difficult to work under the dash of my Mazda MX 5, getting up off the floor after doing an oil change is s full workout. But I'll keep going until I stop.
So, Jonny, did I miss the answer to the obvious question on that BMW.......why does the water pump run when the car is off? I mean, no wonder it burns out water pumps, and did you address that during the repair? I don't get it?
I wonder your opinion on super long oil change intervals (10 to 12 thousand miles) on newer cars today. Is the oil fully protecting the engine or is it just going to last until the engine is out of warranty?
Always 5k oil changes. Starting the interval of 10-15 early on will cause damage over time. Dont listen to the dealers. They want you buying another car in 5 years.
I was thinking it's probably a parts chaser, or a friend in for an oil change/brakes. Probably not in for a full workup like all that Euro-trash (am a Euro-trash owner, friend owns an Odyssey of the same age, that's how it is).
Hi Jonny, you should have not apologize for working on a friend’s behalf. You’re a good person.. I always appreciate your willingness to help someone. Really enjoy your content and channel.
10:07 Ninja, try next time with a folded fender cover as a cushion and lay on your back instead of your side. I found this position much more comfortable. Gotta take care of the body.
I like this format, showing what the other techs are doing as well. Dropping knowledge while working on cars. Thanks GMW for keeping simple and honest.
I think the satin black rep E60 M5 18s on my calypso red E34 nicely match the shadowline trim. Most times they don't match though, not with that light silver body colour. I had those same 18s on the white (chrome trim) E39 sedan while I refurbished the alloys, they looked hideous, I felt almost embarrased to drive it, couldn't wait to get them off it
The “ it’s my shop I can do what I want to “ love that attitude ninja!!

So many of the ZF boxes say "lifetime fill" i.e. they don't HAVE a service interval. Crazy.
@@greebj only according to BMW. ZF say 60-80k kilometres. I’m going with their recommendation over BMW.

It's called maintenance. If you don't want to check the oil and beat a car to death, get a Toyota it will probably last 150k ignoring every problem
My 2006 X3 has been babied so well that it burns zero oil and just did a 2400 mile run from Seattle to Cabo flawlessly ❤

Mercedes and Audi are both worse. And also they bury them under any parts you have to take off.
Everyone does. Been going on for 25+ years.
Jaguar crossover pipes- especially the rear and supercharger...
Ironically, those ugly wheels are the most reliable part of that piece of crap car.

An electric water pump that erroneously, and quietly, runs when the vehicle is off draining the battery in 2 hours screams BMW.
