I want a new car, but my 22 year old Toyota refuses to have any major issues. I'm too stubborn to get rid of it. I suppose I'll drive it until I die. Living vicariously through UA-cam videos.
My daughter drives an 87 camry. I was in the dealership a couple of years ago getting shift lever bushings for it (they actually still had them) and the parts guy said they were going to recall all of them just so people would have to buy a new car.
while i'm not necessarily defending the company, it doesn't look like those trucks are something that's mass produced at the rate of say an F150. if they're indeed more bespoke and hand built, I could see how one could accidentally make it out the door without a refrigerant charge. however, it's still not a good look. at least they're going to cover the fix for the customer.
I'm almost wondering if maybe it isn't a shipping requirement? Like a hazardous material? Just pondering but I do work on cars for a living I usually just don't do ac repairs. The exception is a compressor/dryer swap and they go to a shop to vacuum charge it but only for a select few customer's. I just am far cheaper being I'm mostly disabled so just charge 20-30 and hour to help with bills a couple times a month but definitely not an ac guy.
My new (at the time) 2007 Honda Element had the same problem - the factory forgot to charge the A/C, I had to take it to the dealer and they charged it under warranty.
Probably due to the recycling laws in Germany. However, you're in the penalty box for having to drive a Toyota. The ones I've driven (including a 2022 SR5 4-runner) were horrible driving experiences. To each their own.
Our now out of production Volkswagen Golf SportWagen was delivered new with a pin hole in the evaporator, the dealer told us they ship them empty! Took four visits to get the dealership to identify the actual problem and replace the evaporator under warranty.
Jonny quick question, your thoughts on using aftermarket oil catch cans instead of using the OEM PCV system in BMW's, VW's and such? Good to do? Or Pass and stay OEM. Thanks for your time👍
