XLNT video! I fairly new to woodworking and bookmarked this for the future when I am ready to build a sled. I'm in the USA and can easily convert to Imperial but maybe I'll just use metric, my rulers have both. Thanks again my friend
Great video. I am thinking about buying the dewalt table saw but wasn't sure about the rip capacity. Using a sled like this is a game changer. Thanks for the knowledge.
Great work, Looks perfect for those of us with the smaller table saw. Will be attempting to make one of these (after a fair number of years away from doing any woodworking projects). Wish me luck. LOL
Great stuff mate ! my introduction into table saws was a cheap ALDI supermarket model ! The transition to a Dewalt is (night & day)..... let me know how you go mate , cheers !
Nice job! Just two questions. Why wax bottom of runners? They dont touch. Why go to the trouble of building the plexiglass guard. I would add a solid block of plywood and place a stop on the side of the sled that will hit a stop on the side of the saw preventing it from traveling too far. Also you can put a short extension on the back edge of the sled so it will hit the back of the saw table.
G'day William , In regards to your first question (Wax)... if you'll notice I didn't wax the bottom of the runners only the inner edges and sled base ! ...the fibre-glass (plexiglass guard) seems to have gotten me many favoirable responses , ,,,, at the end of the day , there are dozens of different versions on UA-cam platform , I've simply added my own style,,,thanks for your comment & watching .
One suggestion. Use UHMW plastic for the runners instead of wood. Plastic unlike wood will not expand and contract due to humidity changes. 3/4 Baltic birch works great for the base too.
Great suggestion ! I took all of that (expansion of runners) into consideration , hence I chose a merbau species , it's natural oils & high density acts as barrier , with a very low/nil expansion/shrinkage rate . It is the go to choice for outdoor flooring/decking here in Aus . ''cheers''

Since you're screwing the runners on anyway - use double-sided tape instead of glue. Much quicker and gives the possibility of changing the runners if needed...
Great video. I'll definitely be incorporating some of these ideas into my sled so thank you. How does the sled deal with supporting longer pieces? Say I had to put a dado slot into the end of a piece that was maybe a metre long. Would the sled support that?
Hi David , you make two interesting points ! you'll notice the sled is off/centre , allowing more material to rest on the r/h/side, 700mm length is do-able , I've not attempted a metre long length as of yet , I would imagine it would need (2) clamps to secure it along the front fence . In regards to the dado (blade) honestly they're a grey area here in Aus , because the guard & riving knife have to be removed,,,, the fun Police have deliberately fitted short arbors to prevent their use , deeming the dodo blade unsafe. I believe this to be the case both in the UK (EU) table saws , obviously not the case in the USA ?
Thanks for replying. I'm from the UK and yes it's the same here. I wouldn't want to use the table saw without a riving knife, that's just asking for trouble. The dado example was just the first thing that came into my head. 700mm is still a decent size capacity.
Supplied Dewalt 210mm (8 1/4'' ) diameter blade with 24 teeth , great on the sled ,,,,not so great on heavy rip cuts , require upgrade to 40 or 60 teeth blade for clean cuts...
Questions for you, why do you have high part of the back and top fence offset to one side vs being in the middle ? Is there a reason for this or just personal preference.
Great job I love seeing you tubers that use tools the majority of us have and can afford.
I hear you Brother 👍 , thanks for watching 🙏 .
Nice piece of work. Simpler than a lot of other sleds I have seen. Great work!
Thanks Mate ! glad you like it - cheers ! ,,, Wally
I had absolutely no clue about what you were constructing until you completed it, and I must say, it's incredibly impressive! Well done, sir!

Thanks ! Yep can't go wrong with any Dewalt table saw ! I now rarely use my drop saw , opting for my favourite sled instead
I enjoyed your video. Thanks. I'm about to get started on one myself. Liked yours since I have almost the same saw.

For your glueups try using a silicon kitchen spatula. It is a versatile spreader and nothing sticks to it so cleanups take moments.
Thanks for the Tip ! I'll keep that in mind next glue up ! '' cheers ''

Insane amount of glue sir and did the rear of the fence need to be so hefty? 😮

I like to have the bulk of material on my right hand side as I favour my right hand , so I copied the other side fence just to match , thanks .
why not use 2x4 instead of 3 layers of plywood?
why three layers of ply for the rear fence? That seems to be way overkill. One ply should have been sufficient for rear fence
Probably to allow for two rows of screws. Makes sense.
@@jamesmeader6539what do you mean, ‘two rows of screws”?
@@pierredutchthe two rows of screws he’s driving in at 6:50
Quick question. Why did you use wood instead of UHMW or a similar polymer for the runners? Do you have plans for sale?
Hi , I used material that I had at my disposal , bee's wax works wonders underneath,,,,, sorry not for sale my friend .
Why is the back fence so thick?
Personal preference .
These heaps of clamps was humiliation (Kkkkkk)
