The Voices of Shiloh Christian Community Church Choir of Baltimore, Maryland, under the direction of Kenneth Dean. You all recognize the lead singer? Yep, it's Thelma Jackson. She was once a member of the Vashti Singers of Baltimore, MD; Mary Johnson Davis Singers of Philadelphia, Pa; Clara Ward Specials/Famous Ward Singers of Philadelphia, Pa. She is, indeed, one of my ABSOLUTE favorites!
Wooooww!! This is rich history
How can anybody not know she was a ward singer look at that "strike of lighting" in her hair lol i love it!!!
Oh my! MY...! Is it even LEGAL to have a voice like this Sister? Praise God...! So beautiful. Thanks for posting this. I am blessed.
Thanks for this wonderful footage. Much needed. GOD bless you.
I am so glad that you've enjoyed! Thelma Jackson was an awesome woman and so many people loved her!
When I first uploaded this about a year ago, so many people said that they were gonna get Kenneth Dean. Now that I have uploaded a much clearer copy, it's easy to see him. Lol!
Lol! I thought the same, but I'll quote what I was told by one of her friends. He said, "Soprano, what? Thelma wasn't a soprano, but she could hit "High C's" all day long!" LOL!
AMAZING!! Sing Thelma!!
Other than me finding them myself, I have some really great friends who share things with me as well. I'm truly thankful for them. Thanks for stopping by.
Thank you for posting this Thelma is my aunt. She passed while I was little and I always wanted to hear her voice. Thanks!!
I don't know if it was just a Baltimore thing, but I've been told that during that period, a lot of sopranos and/or prominent soloists in choirs or groups would have blonde or silver streaks. Some of the older ones, who are still around from this time period still wear streaks or blonde wigs. Lol! But Thelma was the original "streak." I think part of Gertrude Wards' inspiration for the "lightning" was Thelma Jackson.
You are so very welcomed! If you'd like to hear more things of Thelma Jackson, let me know. There are a few songs on UA-cam where she either leads, or takes part of.
I'd LOVE to hear others!
Love me some Thelma!
Thank you for posting this, Dwayne. Thelma is one of my favorite Ward singers!
You're more than welcome! She's a favorite of mine as well. How have you been?
Life is very full right now. BUT God is still on the Throne. I have read some of your replies to other comments. Sounds like you've been staying pretty busy. I've just started to get into Clara Ward's music. I LOVE IT!! I'd like to pick your brain some time if you don't mind. Email me sometime at stephenspaur@gmail.com. I'd like to catch up with you. God bless you, my friend!
You are very welcomed! I am glad you've enjoyed!
If anything, she( Thelma) was a Dramatic mezzo soprano. Much like Kitty Parham and Marion Williams who were mezzo sopranos.
My God, where do you find these videos? Love it!
That's Jackie Verdell at the beginning! Lord, what a voice
Alright it's Time to get these in color we have the technology ❤
YAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSS SIS JACKSON WORK THAT HAIR AND SONG! SHE WASN'T PLAYING!!!
Trueee, she could actually be a Dramatic Mezzo. Her voice sounds too dark for a soprano. I live for big voices that can get up there
What year was this? I am a member of Shiloh and probably can identify some of the choir members.
I cannot remember the exact year, but I believe it was 1964 or 1965.
WaaaiTT Thelma is a soprano? She must be a Spinto like Whitney was in her prime
Absolutely!!
I didn't think saints wore blond n their hair way back then lol I guess everyone wasn't cogic too lol cuz I kn they was talkn bout. It n the late 80s n this had to be the 60s lol but I'm not maken a big deal about it just shocked
MATTHEW LEVY Rosetta Tharpe wore blonde wigs and she was cogic.
