Linda Ronstadt is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock & even opera. She has Mexican heritage on her dad's side. Growing up she listened to many types of music, including Mexican music, which was sung by her entire family. She does a great job singing in Spanish. She has had so many hits such as "Different Drum", "Blue Bayou", "You're No Good", "Long Long Time", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "Desperado" etc. Ronstadt also did two great duets, "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram) & "Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville).
It means " the Rodeo." My mom would play this album when I was little. Hearing this today takes me back to my childhood. 💓 Linda was such a versatile singer and performer.
SO HAPPY that you have discovered one of the greatest singers of all time - in a class by herself. She could, and did, do it all. Voice of such power, along with exquisite control, uniquely beautiful tone, and she never looked like she was straining at all. She blew my mind the first time I heard her, still does, always will.
Linda Ronstadt is an American artist with Mexican heritage from her father. She had a fifty year career beginning in the sixties and retiring in 2009 due to Supranuclear Palsy, which destroyed her ability to sing. She had the most beautiful voice on the planet and won many awards and accolades over the years. She explored multiple genres and excelled at everything she attempted . Her voice is a perfect blend of power and sweetness resulting in the most heavenly sound imaginable. Spanish is not her native language but she tried very diligently to use the proper accent. Her catalogue is well worth exploring. 🌺✌️
@@gloriakadar3288 We are talking about cultural identity not "race'. People from Southern and Northen Europe are the same "race" (Since race doesn't actually exist I place it in quotation marks) and Mexicans are predominantly Southern European in origin. American - People who are from the United States of America. It's a contraction, you are free to not use it if it bothers you. Just type out "United States of (North) Americans" each time. South American - People from the South American Continent. North American - People from the North American Continent. Their is no continent named America. If you are referring to people from both the correct term would be "People of the Americas" and not Americans. Incidentally we didn't choose the term "American". Thomas Jefferson introduced himself as a "Virginian". The term "Americans" was fosted on us by other nations.
She started her professional career... as a 60s Rocker !!! She's a deep dive if you care to, but sooo well worth it. Such a talented lady! One of my top two singers.... all time!!
Sorry, but she is part Mexican, grew up in Arizona with all Spanish speakers, singing Mariachi songs. Put out a CD Canciones de Mi Padre, and Mas Canciones de Mi Padre. She's very proud of her heritage, Bro 😉😁
She's mostly German and Scottish...Just a fact. Why she never mentions that is beyond me. It is also a fact that, she is not fluent in Spanish...so how is Hilda wrong. I love her and her singing, regardless...She's my favorite singer in any Genre. I've been a fan since the early 70's.@@Arlene_G
There has never been, nor will there ever be, anyone like her. Yeah her voice was amazing and she explored many genres but IMO the most impressive thing is that you could actually follow the improvement in her voice over the course of her career. She is also an 💥AMAZING💥human being.
Absolutely, the Best ever 👏👏👏…..and despite the tragedy of losing her fabulous voice…Linda is an amazing Human… A very outspoken and talented speaker..quick witted, smart , funny too…One of a Kind… in every way… My favourite singer of ALL TIME !!!….No one has ever sung in so many genres of music and excelled in every one 👌👌👏👏👏
Thanks for another great reaction! Always love to hear your viewpoints. I grew up with Linda and the Ronstadt family as my mother worked for her father at the Ronstadt Hardware store in Tucson, Arizona in the 1950's and 1960's. Her whole family is musical and great people.
Linda is American of Mexican decent. She sings a little of everything. She is famous for singing in English. This is from her album "Canciones de mí Padre". It's a tribute to her father and her Mexican roots.
Although her heritage is partially Mexican, she never learned Spanish and was taught these songs phonetically. She had such a powerful voice and could sing any style. Check out "Poor Wandering One" from the operetta Pirates of Penzance. Not bad for someone who is not a trained opera singer! She sang it on Broadway and the film version, too.
I'm from AZ. La Charreada is like a celebration by "charros" (Mexican cowboys), with competitive event similar to rodeo, and was developed from animal husbandry practices used on the haciendas of old Mexico.
Linda Ronstadt, an absolute legend. Singing ability, top tier. But also with producing and concert headlining broke so many ceilings for women in music. She showed that she would be in charge of her own style and not others. A true great one!!
Arguably the greatest female rock singer of all time. Amazed that you’ve never heard of her.. Blue Bayou, Long long time so many other hits. Do yourself a favor and go down that rabbit hole!
One of the GREAT Female Vocalists of all time! Any genre she tackled, she owned! So much more to her. Do some research on her, it will blow you away! The Eagles were her back up band in the Early 70’s, before the became iconic themselves! 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Linda Ronstadt has sold over 100 million albums, world wide. and she has sung in vastly different genres including, but not limited to, rock, pop, folk, opera, latin and country. In 2008, at the age of 62, she officially retired from singing, due to a medical issue, but still makes personal appearances.
One of my favorite singers to travel to her concerts. I love her singing so much .her texture and passion is epic. Linda is an American singer who performed and recorded in diverse genres including rock, country, light opera, the Great American Songbook, and Latin music. She has earned 11 Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, two Academy of Country Music awards, an Emmy Award, and an ALMA Award. Many of her albums have been certified gold, platinum or multiplatinum in the United States and internationally. She has also earned nominations for a Tony Award and a Golden Globe award. She was awarded the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award by the Latin Recording Academy in 2011 and also awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award by the Recording Academy in 2016. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April 2014. On July 28, 2014, she was awarded the National Medal of Arts and Humanities. In 2019, she received a star jointly with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for their work as the group Trio. Ronstadt was among five honorees who received the 2019 Kennedy Center Honors for lifetime artistic achievements.
This performance was at the Grammys.. Loved the reaction of the star-studded audience of musicians and singers to Linda's brilliant and exhilarating performance. Thank you for recognizing this magnificent artist.
When I was 17 or 18 years old I had a massive crush on Linda Ronstadt.... and yes, I did buy the poster... the one where she's wearing the purple shirt on the black background with her hair up and looking so innocent and sweet
The greatest female singer of the 1970s. Most popular, too. She was great at mariachi style. She can sing ANY style, really, as she has proven (to her record label's angst, no doubt), over and over and over. A Wikipedia article should be pretty good for more info about this legend; they're good at celebrities and artists.
What a way to come across Linda Ronstadt she was a rock n roll queen from the 70s-1990's after listening to this you should listen to her music. Blue Bayou next!!!
Linda Ronstadt can sing anything. Rock, country rock, country, opera. I actually seen her at the public theater in La Bohème. She did the Pirates of Penzance on Broadway. She sang a salsa album which is one of my favorite +2 mariachi albums the woman can sing everything and not just sing everything but incredibly well. Funny is she understands Spanish but she doesn’t necessarily speak it a lot, but she can sing it because that’s how she was brought up Spanish was the magical language that you sang in. Her dad is fourth generation, Mexican her great great grandfather was a German man who moved to Mexico and they were Mexican, family with a German last name. They moved to Sonora which was Mexican but now is both Mexican and American because of the border moving after the Mexican American war.
I just LOVE the fact her label said this would ruin her rock career, Linda did it anyway and her Latin album became the biggest selling Latin music album in American history. Then she just went on cranking out rock hits and went to do 2 albums of classic standards, which her label said the same thing. All it did was go platinum. Gotta LOVE Linda.
Linda Ronstadt has sold 100 million albums worldwide. She has sung every type of music imaginable from folk to country to rock to American standards to opera to Latin. She was the first huge female rock star. You should watch her documentary - Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice.
Linda rose to fame initially with a song with her band Stone Poneys called Different Drum. They were scheduled to play in LA one weekend and the band partied too hard (they were a trio including her) and unable to perform. She got on the phone and called a couple friends to come sit in with her and save her gig for her. It was the first time Don Henley and Glen Frey ever met. If those names are familiar it's because they got together and formed The Eagles. Were it not for Linda Ronstadt, there's good odds that we would have missed out on such a huge catalog of hits by them in the 70s. I always found that back story interesting. As far as I know there's only one video of her singing with The Eagles and they performed Silver Thread And Golden Needles. Killed it

Linda Rondstat has done everything from pop to rock to country to mariachi to light opera. She is possibly the best mezzo-soprano to lend her voice to popular music.
Greetings Samantha Welcome to the Realm of the Icon known as Linda Ronstadt. She was born in Arizona. She is LITERALLY 1 of the Top 5 Best Female Voices of the last 100 yrs. She was also in "The Trio" with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris. Too bad she lost her ability to sing because of a mental disease. Otherwise, she would be still singing and be better than Adele and Celine Dion.
Totally agree … even Dolly and Emmy Lou… we’re truly amazed by her voice…. And they were pretty fabulous themselves !!!…Trio LPs were amazing…Magical harmonies…and they all couldn’t believe how good they were either!!!!…..

A las 3:13 p.m. terminé de ver este video por primera vez en mi laptop, pero ya lo había visto en la TV. Un abrazo muy fuerte, muchos saludos y muchísimas bendiciones desde México.❤🌎❤
I hope after listening to her, you made time to listen to her other stuff .... This woman was such a hidden gem in the music world who deserves every award that ever existed, and maybe .. Just maybe... Should be in her own category.
Ms Ronstadt grew up on her Grandfather's hacienda in Tucson, AZ. She sang folk, country, pop, rock, Broadway, standards, and traditional mariachi. This song is from "Canciones de mí Padre" the first of three Spanish language albums she released. Within 24 hours of release, this album had sold more than 2 million copies and had reached Double Platinum status. It also won a Grammy for "Best Non-English Album". Due to her declining health she stopped performing in 2009, her last concert in San Antonio, TX was dedicated to her Mexican heritage and was songs from her Spanish album trilogy.
Thank you for going into the song cold. Some reactors read up on it ahead of time. When we hear a song on the radio for the first time we don't read about it first.
I have no idea who Samantha Lisa is, nor where she is from. If this is the first time she's listened to Ms. Linda, she has a lot of catching up to do. No matter. I appreciate her reaction. Keep it up, girl.
She is one of the most versatile artists. She does light opera (check out her Pirates of Penzance), love songs (check out her duet with Aaron Neville) and just her own stuff. She is one of my favourite artists.
For all things Linda Ronstadt you need to find the documentary "The Sound of My Voice". She began in the late 1960's as a Folk/Rock/Country singer fronting a Band called The Stone Poneys. She then went solo and the several members of her new band would eventually form The Eagles. Her career took off in the 1970's with multiple pop rock hits. She continued to have pop hits into and through the 1980's. Also in the 80's she collaborated with Dolly Parton and Emmy Lou Harris to make a top selling country album called "Trio". She also performed Gilbert and Sullivan's "Pirates of Penzance" on Broadway and on film. Plus she did a Big Band album with Nelson Riddle and an album of Mexican tunes like this one to which you just reacted. She was a very busy musical artist and could sing any genre of music and sing it most beautifully!
"la charreada" means literally what in the US would be "the rodeo", Charro stuff as in cowboy stuff.. she is mixed in the sense that this album ("Songs from my father") were songs his father and grandfather heard or sang to her when she was little..
Super reaction!! Please have another listen, for yourself, of Linda. Dagmar S. in these comments lists really good choices for songs through the years ... in various styles. Can't choose wrong. Enjoy!!
For my life Linda Ronstadt was a cute little rocker and it was Linda Ronstadt and The Stone Pony and, and as she got older and a bit heavier and whatnot she went more towards stage and operatic Style Well I'm not a big fan on the song Muskrat Love, she sings it well. But I have always loved her ballads and her rocking songs to like Heatwave. Which may be my favorite
Lol! Linda Ronstadt singing Muskrat Love? I do believe you are confused. That horrible "song" was done by Captain and Tenille. Linda had A LOT more integrity than to choose a piece of cr@p song like that. That said....if you know that Linda DID cover it please offer up proof. ✌
Go to Wikipedia for fairly reliable info on Linda Ronstadt. She is a Tucson, Arizona native, of Mexican / German decent. She was not fluent in Spanish but learned to speak Spanish to sing these songs. She started her career professionally at 18 after leaving home for L.A., California. This was in the late 1970's. There is a very good documentary on her titled Linda Ronstadt: the sound of my voice.
Even though you don't understand the words of this song, you have to be impressed with Linda's vocal calisthenics. She was one of the voices of my time, I even had a crush on her (blush).
Linda is a top class singer Try Linda singing Tracks Of My Tears. Also try Linda singing Poor Wandering One from the comic opera The Pirates Of Penzance
In my opinion Linda Ronstadt is about the best singer ever, male or female. Willie Nelson said it best "there are two kinds of men in this world, those with a crush on Linda and those who have never heard of her." She is the master of any genre she sings. Sadly Parkinsons disease has silenced her voice.
I have folowed her from the start early 70s. Amazing talent and voice She is USA old Arizona family back before the USA took control from Mexicol. Started in country and folk music then sang rock and roll and pop music then sang 1940 Big Band swing tunes then ight opera Gilbert and Sulivan and then Mariaci. Always expanding her experiance and range. Sold over 100 million records and the prime femaile artist for decades. Now 77 or so and retired from singing a few years ago due to illness. Try a 19 year old I recently found called Lucy Thomas The only new singer I rate s good as Linda.
Look her up on UA-cam she is everywhere marvellous singer now in her 80s❤❤❤. She has been so much a part of my musical appreciation 💖💖💖 for plus 50 years
I love you Linda I am actually 3 years younger than you I live in Aussie and you were and still are big over here 💖💖💖 On local radio on talk back general public still remember you fondly. We are saddened by the news of your health issues and all wish you well I cried when I first heard and often still do I love looking back on your videos especially your canciones because I have Mexican heritage on my father's side When he was young his father died so he ran their Texas farm and often drove livestock south for sale and while there visited relatives when I was little he taught me the language but sadly I have forgotten most I am now trying to relearn español thankyou for being part of my life even though we never met. Lots of 💕 love PS this is the only way I can talk I am not internet literate thankyou
Willie Nelson once said “ there’s two types of men, those who have a crush on Linda Ronstadt and those who have never heard of her”. Nailed it
Slight correction..."those who have never met her."

She has the most Grammys of all female artists of the 60's and 70s and maybe even the 80's. You should listen to these epic songs of her:
"Different Drum" with Stone Poneys
"Long, Long Time"
"Blue Bayou"
"La Cigarra"
"You're No Good"
"Desperado" by Glen Fry of The Eagles
"Silver Threads and Golden Needles" with The Eagles
"When Will I Be Loved"
"Poor Poor Pitiful Me'
"Tumbling Dice"
These should be a good start for you.
Just to clarify, she is not mentally ill. She has a neurological disease called Supranuclear Palsy.
So. You're going to explore Linda Rondstat. Welcome to the vortex.
Samantha Lisa: ¡Hola Samantha!
History's Greatest Singing Voice!!!
Even the devil couldn't help but smile after hearing this.
The queen of rock❤
Just to clarify, she is not mentally ill. She has a neurological disease called Supranuclear Palsy.
Sorry, wrong post. See directly above.
A GEM that shines like no other.
You did her singing Desperado. She was one of the greatest
Just Linda and a piano. No band, no backup singers, no fireworks, no dancers, no auto tune. Just Linda and a piano.
How the heck can a human hold a note like that with such power? I would have passed out in the first 30 seconds.
Well Spaniard, you have just saw the very best of Mexican culture. This lady is the Queen of mariachi music now, or referred to as Rancheras.
I’ve watched this video at least 4 times so far. Please react to more Linda Ronstadt. She is so amazing.
Thank you for going into the song cold. Some reactors read up on it ahead of time. When we hear a song on the radio for the first time we don't read about it first.
Linda has the top selling non-English language album in American Music history.
You looked like you were having so much fun with this reaction. Great on you young lady
You had a jaw-drop, she’s amazing and over the top!
La Charreada is The Rodeo, she's singing about rodeo life. All the traditions and festivities.
That album went double platinum (2.5 million) ... IN ONE DAY!
I have no idea who Samantha Lisa is, nor where she is from. If this is the first time she's listened to Ms. Linda, she has a lot of catching up to do. No matter. I appreciate her reaction. Keep it up, girl.
I love Ronstadt.. The Best.
La Charreada is a type of rodeo. Linda was the Queen of Rock, back in the 1970's.
Fantastic performance... by all.
"la charreada" means literally what in the US would be "the rodeo", Charro stuff as in cowboy stuff.. she is mixed in the sense that this album ("Songs from my father") were songs his father and grandfather heard or sang to her when she was little..
You are so truthful and astonished....... I love it! C
Super reaction!! Please have another listen, for yourself, of Linda. Dagmar S. in these comments lists really good choices for songs through the years ... in various styles. Can't choose wrong. Enjoy!!
She is an American singer. Her dad was from Mexico so she experience mariachi music since a child.
If you're wondering what genres of music Linda covers, the answer is "Yes".
She sang You’re No Good Blue Bayou and check out her performances with orchestra
She’s Mexican
Research her her helped The Eagles get their start they were her backup before they made it big
I love her album Jardin Azul...
For my life Linda Ronstadt was a cute little rocker and it was Linda Ronstadt and The Stone Pony and, and as she got older and a bit heavier and whatnot she went more towards stage and operatic Style
Well I'm not a big fan on the song Muskrat Love, she sings it well.
Muskrat Love was from The Captain & Tenille. Toni Tenille was a great singer back then but not even close to Linda Ronstadt's league.
Linda did pretty much all genres of music in the USA. Being part Mexican this was from her Mexican mariachi album.
yeah, Linda was really somethin' :)
Is, she still is something! ❤
Wow you have alot of great things to hear from her!
Even though you don't understand the words of this song, you have to be impressed with Linda's vocal calisthenics. She was one of the voices of my time, I even had a crush on her (blush).
Linda ronstadt has two beautiful duets with Aaron Neville , please react to one of them
Linda is a top class singer
Try Linda singing Tracks Of My Tears.
Also try Linda singing Poor Wandering One from the comic opera The Pirates Of Penzance
Blue Bayou" By Linda Ronstadt please 😁❤
In my opinion Linda Ronstadt is about the best singer ever, male or female. Willie Nelson said it best "there are two kinds of men in this world, those with a crush on Linda and those who have never heard of her." She is the master of any genre she sings. Sadly Parkinsons disease has silenced her voice.
Charreada refers to a specific event that is held in Mexico. So it's not strictly a Spansih word
Surprise!!! Now you know. You will NEVER forget what you just heard!!!
Linda is Mexican on her mothers side. Her father and family have a long history of mariachi bands.
Look her up on UA-cam she is everywhere marvellous singer now in her 80s❤❤❤. She has been so much a part of my musical appreciation 💖💖💖 for plus 50 years
Linda was born in July of 1946.
She's actually 76.
This a difinition about CHAERREADA. Caballista mexicano que lleva un sombrero de grandes alas y un traje bordado.
She did a great job with Desperado.
