- SRAM has just dropped the latest version of their Eagle AXS wireless transmission! This new generation of wireless electronic gear shifting should appeal to performance-oriented riders who want to be able to shift under load. The new SRAM Eagle AXS not only has a remapped cassette to provide better shifting under power, but it also doesn't have any limit screws which makes for an easier setup. In this video, Neil Donoghue takes you through the features that set it apart from other MTB drivetrains

What do you think about the new groupset from SRAM? Let us know 👇
Id like more info on why they removed the UDH and went to direct mount again. The hanger was meant to save the frame when impacts on your derailleur occured. What about a mechanical/cable version? Other than that, its looks great and cant wait to give it a try!
We think it needs Titanium. 💥
at that price tag not even thinking about it
good marketing, nice videos, steep price
What about the huge amount of bikes without the UDH mount? i.e. my 2022 Ibis Ripmo AF
**comforts my Deore groupset**
ssshh.. I'm not gonna replace you, I can't afford it anyway LMAO
Same lol
The energy that's going on the Derailleur in Case of a crash, where does it go? Frame? In case of Fullys maybe even the Shock? The force of the impact will go somewhere and not just evaporate magically... I'm really curious how this is going to work out... #askgmbntech
I think the same
#askgmbntech Can you perform live demonstration of bike crash with this derailer? I think Blake will be the best person to do such stunt
I believe it's going to the axle.
Nino crashed right on the derailer in a race last year and still won the race.
@@hugosantana7253 and then? I've never seen an axle flex to absorb stress... Guess that wouldn't work too well when jumping/landing
Able to change gears under load for me is a game changer. Because I absolutely suck at it. There is a few punchy climbs at my favorite bike park that I always have issues with. I am really excited to try this out.
Main concerns I've seen today by a few reviewers was the stress this derailleur would put on the dropouts over time, especially those of the carbon fiber variety. I suspect wide adoption of this type of system would require frames to be beefed up and subject to greater QC in order to accommodate the increased stress. Being so expensive, folks buying this system will likely be using the more vulnerable carbon frames.
Agree 100%
A very informative commercial as usual, thanks
So whenever the rear wheel is removed the derailleur falls out? Is there no other mechanism that holds the derailleur on the frame besides the axle? Also, is there a breakpoint that will alleviate stress off the frame during impact? personally, if something was to break, I'd prefer the derailleur snap as opposed to potential frame damage
I have the same opinion. Direct mount configuration is not a right way. The derailleur hanger is a fuse.
The point is: it just absorbs the hit: ua-cam.com/video/LA2hoFEMARM/v-deo.html
There's a bolt on the outer side of the derailleur that threads inward from the outside to hold it in place, so it won't fall out when removing the rear wheel.
@@martinaplatte1167 thank you Martina .. a lot of expert haters here in the comments..do they even ride lol
@@matz1pan Strong = Heavy
Love it just bought one can’t wait to get it
Amazing video editing style!
Give me this plus cable instead of electronic shifting, 165mm crank option and take my money SRAM.
I hit a hidden rock in the grass last year. It hit the front of the cage and rotated the derailleur backward around the axle. The small bolt holding the hanger from rotating sheared. I rotated it back in place and pedaled home. Replaced the little screw and was good to go. Does this system rotate on a hit like that or just snap the cage off? That impact energy has to go somewhere.
RD have been awesome for years so no issues here but nice to have more options and better toys for those that seek the top end stuff.
Would be interested to hear from frame manufacturers that have adopted the udh so see if they have concerns about the direct mount mechs.
Shimano XT: Hold my beer
😂
RD hanger supposed to save the frame not the rear derailleur itself, what happened on the purpose of the rear derailleur hanger now
Love the flat top chain
Really looking forward to this filtering down to lower-price components, in a few years when I need to replace my mountain bike :-) Derailleur hangers were fine with
Looks suitably futuristic, and I especially like the jockey wheel tech. nice 🙂
That's needed when the sram jockey wheel bearings inevitably seize 😂
Definitely! It's stunning! The new jokey wheels are such a cool feature.
so now instead of bending our derailleur hanger we are bending/breaking our frame? Nice
yes, I mean the derailleur is now as expensive as a frame, so it makes sense not to break that. It's so dumb,
I had expected Doddy to present an item like this
Me on my SLX Stumpy
"This is the way"
No hanger . . . was not sure they would release this in a world where we need more sustainable parts and ease of repair.
SRAM don't care they integrate Power meters onto chain rings now
In case of a crash, the energy gets transferred all the way to the helmet and the MIPS absorb it, obviously!
"This is the Way"
1:51 Oh dear! My cognitive friction is kickin' in!
Lots'a love, cheers, & Mabuhay, from tropical Philippines! #RideOn #KeepBiking
Cheers for the share dude, very interesting. does it just have a integrated mech hanger with an old school after market alloy breakaway bolt? i can see it will be strong and stiffer as it removes a fixing.
Cheers for the share? Man, this is paid promotion. Wake up! Suddenly SRAM (or shoud I say DUMB) is in every youtube mtb channel.
Curious to see how it will go with an e-bike and there increased torque
Curious as to where the weak point is now. What sort of damage do you risk doing to the frame if you have a big enough impact? UDH is a lot cheaper to replace than a rear triangle #askgmbntech
It kinda looks retro - very happy with my GX AXS still - no need to switch.
Looks like kool-aid is back on the menu boys
I don't know what you mean, but it sounds kool :)
@@docmccoy9813 drink the kool-aid : To completely buy into an idea or system, whether good or bad.
Do you align it , if it's been tweeked
So the derailleur just falls off every time you take out the rear wheel? That sounds annoying.
Definitely a game changer, unfortunately none of my bikes are UDH compatible 😢. For me it would be a reason to get a new frame.
What kind of dropper lever do you have ?
Wish you could make a vid how shifting is with a load on that Sram
Here as curious, I know SRAM red xplr and eagle and the single front cog but is it possible and okay to put a road groupset on a mountain bike? I am not a fan of the single front cog, also unsure of xplr at moment
I want it huge
What will happened when you get a hit from the front. Where will the force go?
Was i not paying enough attention or did you expertly avoid to talk about how that deraileur breaks? That was the whole point with the hanger, now it looks like it takes your frame out in worst case?? Break off bolt? Hate the thought of that at the tip of my rear triangle tbh.
far from original points but:
-planned shifting goes from being a practiced and useful skill to something you can effectively buy into- is that good?
-if and when something slams into the mech, is the force not now pushed onto the dropout/ frame? Given we can assume the kind of person using this will have a carbon bike, is that not insane?
-does the serated nub on the inner attachment point not also dig into the dropout material (soft carbon, fatiguing aluminium), is that not also insane?
I don't even care about their performance, they just look stunning!
Are you a 10 year old?
💯%! The black and raw look is so clean. 🔥
@Fabian Suarez and this is good. We need to go away and back to good looking things, like this. I mean, I was driving BMWs for 20 years but the new ones look like an accident, just ugly. Back to the beautiful looking things!
Does it work on ebikes with shimano ep8?
Are these new components cross-compatible with existing eagle parts so you can upgrade piece by piece, or do you have to buy the whole drivetrains together?
I would imagine the only things that compatable is cranks and the controller if you've already got axs. The new chain and cassette design make it not compatable with old eagle stuff. Crankset will be about the same as long as the spindle is the same width for "boost" spacing. Other than that, itll all be different.
It isn't cross-compatible with other SRAM Eagle. You have to snag the full transmission. Within T-Type the components are cross-compatible, though, so you could do an XX cassette with XO crank, etc.
@@martinaplatte1167 the only thing thats cross compatable is the shifter from previous axs drivetrains.
The only thing it's compatible with is your wallet
@@alexisonbike3652 Definitely not compatible with mine, alas
The link was to protect the frame, not the mech. Hangers used to be partof the frame so a bent hanger would mean a new frame.
Hoping they figure out a way to make this work on older bikes without a UDH
The big question is..does that affects frame warranty, or it will be covered under warranty in case of crashing and damaging the frame because of this system? (derailleur being hit)
Would be classed as crash damage. Sram are pretty confident the mech can still take some abuse and the outer skid plate is replaceable. It’s a pretty robust fitting with the udh and I would have the same concern especially with a carbon rear end.
That hanger is there to save the bike frame not the derailleur.
Yeah thats a big no no.. why would they get rid of the hanger?? Stiffer and more rigid derailleur, sure, but at the cost of wrecking my frame if my derailleur gets smacked? No thanks!
seeing the axs prices in general, a new chainstay or whole backend for your frame might be the cheaper option
the axle would literally need to snap before it damages the frame.
@@peteralexander6514 but a UDH only costs like $15-$30. And id rather that cheap aluminum bend than my frame snap or derailleur explode. Although, I genuinely cant remember the last time I smashed my derailleur.. but its always the case of "its not if, its when".
It appears that the mounting still has a degree of freedom. Quote from the SRAM website the full mount "allows the derailleur to rotate backwards in of an impact "
Does your bike need to be specially equipped to mount this? Or will it work on any boost bike
Your bike only needs to be Sram UDH compatible which is cool! There's a UDH compatibility list here: bikefinder.sram.com/universal-derailleur-hanger-bikes
@@gmbntech there's no voodoo bikes on the list I have the bizango pro
@@gmbntech hence udh.... They needed to get udh widely adopted so there were bikes out there to 'sell' this too... Hense udh being open source... Never done as a kind gesture to create one standard for all, just to get the udh design adopted/common place so they could launch this...
I would bet that the mech element of the design is patent tight, so won't be any alternative makes able to make derailleur mounting like this... They will have to stick with udh/hangers.
Vv clever... And utterly snide/underhand... Of SRAM
@@rupedog its smart of them as a company. You can still use whichever drivetrain you want however so in the long run it works out for the consumer
They are making fun of us...
Prices: From 2.000€ to 3.000€
Yes guys, this is the price of a AUDI RS4 transmission that works up to +1000hp / +1200nm
Please dont you pay this amount of money or they will think the prices are O.K. for us.
I like the way, if you drop your bike, the force of the impact will go through the derailleur and onto your carbon frame. I mean these derailleurs are so expensive now, it's good the frame is going to get cracked instead of the rear mech (or any sacrifical rear hanger, as it did before).... Sorry what problem was this solving again?
shifting under load :)
Looks a bit like XTR 970. Curious if we have finally crossed the 1000€ mark for a cassette. Brakes still same old DOT I suppose.
Only 720€ for the cassette. What a bargain.
Finally got to see it!
It's been lurking around for a while but it's finally here!
@@gmbntech yup! Shift under load? I'm sold!
Well boys and girls now it's just time for hoseless brakes and we are all clean and set ;)
Maybe a game changer, but definitely a bank account emptier .Pretty cool features though.
As amazing as this looks, I’d like an in-depth look at TRP’s new Evo drive train and pricing 👌🏻
Will the rear derailleur fall down when removing the wheel?
No it won't. The derailleur mounts directly to the frame. 👍
they should add a tiny solar panel so you don't worry about batteries
or use a dynamo
#askgmbntech Do these new dequrellias negate the need/use of the hanger alignment tool. Is alignment no longer an issue?
A few months ago after a serious crash. I broke my derailleur hanger & Derailleur. I replaced the ear and the gears and returned to ride. I also twisted my derailleur hanger a few times, straightened it on the spot/in the field and continued riding...would I broken the frame (carbon frame) in such a fall with the new system? There is such a chance...I don't like it at all
#askgmbntech can this new eagle axs be fitted on any bike or only on bikes that are compatible with UDH ?
I have an old Willier 101xn (2014) and the previous AXS XO1 rear derailler (loving it), can i upgrade?
Game changer. I see this working best for EMTBs, although I don't see the need for a 52t chainring for those kind of bikes. Is this SRAM's answer to LinkGlide? I think so!
That’s much more cooler, and I don’t confuse with China cassette any more for this new design. 😅
What is the benefit of using wireless if any? Or is just for a cleaner look?
Consistency is allegedly better
Glad the hanger is going as in the past wheen the rear derailleur hanger failed it would go into the rear wheel. More money to replace derailleur and rear wheel
If someone explode the deleurier in a rock what will be destroyed? The deleurier or the frame drop out? The idea is great but is confusing puting the rear meck than put the axle over it, and what about rear axle lenght is the same? Confusing
It's not difficult bro ... The rock will break
Also learn to spell at least one word correctly
Interesting they're that confident in full power gearchanges with such a narrow chain still. Have they improved chain tech as well or is that going to be the new weakest link, pardon the pun?
Good thing I got a frame warranty
The question here is not whether this is better that current AXS, because it clearly is, which is normal with technological iterations. Like with so many other components or bikes nowadays, the question is whether it's worth the exorbitant prices.
There’s a lot of comments about how this system will damage frames has it doesn’t use a derailleur hanger.
Frames have become much stronger since derailleur hangers were introduced. Perhaps derailleur hangers have become a legacy item which aren’t really needed anymore due to the improvements in frame design, using thru axles etc.
Sram the best!!
Love the look and everything about it except the removal of the derailer hanger... Imagine bashing the rear end into a rock with a large amount of force... Not only will your expensive derailer need replacing entirely there's risk of your frame bending also... Just doesn't sit right with me. Other than that It looks pretty sweet!
Have you seen the tests though...I think not
If you are worried about it breaking like a hanger, just accept that it won’t
But where does the force go? Into the carbon...
@@bergerniklas6647 just get a new frame bro
Will the AXS derailleur work with a Shimano XTR 10-45 cassette?
no
No, different spacing/'pull' ratio. And AXA was deliberately created so u could never adjust individual gear shift to prevent exactly that.
Why FFS
Thought Doddy would be all over this tech 🤔🤔
incredible. I'm starting to get afraid of all this technology even though I know it's good. starts to sound too complex. apps on phones. so many options. are they making these bikes for regular people or elite athletes in competition?
total in love with sram, time to update my old sram axs with the new one.
I don't know if this is sarcasm or stupidity
Perfect upgrade imo, the old axs is basically obsolete now. The advancement in this new one is like comparing a car from the 1950s (old axs) vs a modern car from 2077 (new 2023 axs).
Us too! We love it! Early Xmas present? 😉
Cannot decide if this simplifies or complicates things more. Also, I wonder if SRAM will release a cable driven derailleur with similar features.
I was thinking that too. I’d love a cable version of it!
There is no mechanical option?
For a wireless groupset? Of course not. All 12 speed mechanical is still available.
Anyone knows where is Doddy?
With stuff like this an already expensive sport becomes ridiculously expensive.
I can't help but think, for the money, there has to be a better solution to fixed in place rear derrailleurs hanging down and being prone to demage both on the ride but equally being transported.
So does this cost more than my bike?
It costs more than your car! Whatever u drive😜
Yep, but hurry up because next year it will be more expensive :)
A general comment: I always love learning from GMBN videos, but could happily do without the background music when the bikes are being ridden. To me it is intrusive and does not add to the viewing experience.
Not sure about the bar eggs, I mean, pods 🤔
I think it's a nice bit of kit from sram and i think it will change the game, I hear the more load you put on it the better and that's something everybody will like. if you have the money....go for it
100%! It's the latest and greatest in MTB drivetrains, for sure! We're so excited to get out and film some more content with this insane transmission.
Think I’m going to need to sell a kidney 🤤🤤
This means that perfectly fine working older generations will be cheaper nów, great
I don't think so.
The price gap is too wide
Hmm not convinced. Direct bolts on too your frame? My rear triangle will cost me a stunning £850 carbon fibre if it’s broke can’t see it working for the more serious rider.!!
hey) where is my GX AXS?? I have just bought it! Should I get rid of it immediately?) stop progress pls - it annoys me heavily

For the price of the cheapest groupset, you could buy a decent full suspension bike 😮
But only with a *Rustyfox* suspension!

@@IIISentorIII 😂
If you are here, looking at this state of the art technology, why would you almost be looking to buy a cheap bike? Makes NO SENSE. It's like me saying I can get a basic car for the price of an engine for my Porche.

Can you use the new AXS remote with the old AXS mech?
Yes, is the only item of the new “T-Type” series that works with any other AXS stuff

You can however pay for a separate insurance policy that provides frame protection cover from us the manufacturer - infarct we recommend that for all bikes with this high end group set....
... It's £2300 for a group set...
Next big thing is wireless brakes fs
Would you want that?
having broken more frames than derailleurs/hangers in my life, I'm not too worried about that.
I always shift under power 🤷♂️
The new SRAM Eagle Transmission will be a whole lot smoother when shifting under load. 👍
