@@PartyintheAM no. The X01 is designed to sit more inboard, have more chain wrap around and a shorter titanium cage for more ground clearance and durability. It is designed to be protected against crashes. The trade off of these crash-proof features is noisier drive train and slightly tougher shifting in higher gears.
I have both the GX and the X01 AXS. I can confirm that the X01 AXS is noticeably more noisy and rougher shifting than the GX. The X01 AXS has a shorter cage and more chain wrap around the cassette. This causes more friction on the cassette, resulting in more noise and more resistance shifting. I upgraded from the GX to X01 for the weight advantage. But after the installation and countless hours fine tuning the X01, I realize that X01 is noisier and rougher to shift. I did a little more digging and found that the X01 has more chain wrap and shorter cage, resulting in more friction. It is also more inboard than the GX, meaning that it is very tight in the higher gears, causing it to run a little rougher. If I could do this again, I would get the XX1. The X01 is targeted at enduro riders who don’t care about noise and refinement.
Just bought the GX model for my ebike, wow what a complete difference to riding ! It’s a total no brainer, if you have £ $ € go for it you won’t regret it folks ……..
Have all 3, XX1, X01 and since Monday GX. They work the same, tested the GX on 5 days ride with total of 7500 m of vertical climbing, its fantastic like the other AXS
Owned GX for a year. Bought XX1 today. Weight difference is negligible. The motor sounds different on the upshifts to easy gear. The fit and finish are clearly nicer on the XX1. Hopefully the carbon outer cage will hold up against flying debris. Swapped out the XX1 controller’s silver mounting piece for the GX’s all black. Selling GX soon. Oh yeah, replaced titanium hardware with oil slick Better Bolts. Bike was full GX drivetrain a year ago. Slowly upgraded to full XX1 today. However chainring is Absolute Black. I ride XC.
Hi team, nice video, quick snappy and to the point, I've been shopping around here in New Zealand... and so far I got the most info out of your video, Cheers
My LBS upgraded my SX derailleur for a GX. The SX was crap. It had maybe 50 miles on it, but it was never right to begin with. I’ve had Walmart bikes that shifted better. The derailleur got caught in the spokes or dropped the chain off both ends of the cassette. It did it 4 times while I was at the bike shop while they were trying to figure it out. There was a lot of slop in the cage when the chain was removed.
you're gonna be waiting a while for shimano to release an 'affordable' wireless groupset, there's only been talk of them releasing an XT version and even that has been extremely hush hush.
I love these shimano replies as if they'll 1) have a wireless setup out soon and 2) it'll be cheap. Look how long it took AXS to go from over $2k down to $600, and you're going to sit around how long for Shimano to release an unknown wireless groupset? And then sit around how much longer for it to be affordable? Right...
Exactly. You might notice it if you are holding both in your hand at the same time, but when pedaling I don't think anyone is going to say "my bike feels 100g heavier today after I swapped out my RD." Good video though. Short and to the point.
GX AXS install next week. If the servo motor is driving the shifting, how would the GX be less snappy? And over what time interval? I don't see it. 🤷♂️
@@Andy-co6pn But is it going to make it less "Snappy." Not saying Mike is wrong. Just asking for the logic of how and if there will be a material difference.
I would run XX1. I have XX1 cable setup on my Evil Wreckoning and have had no issues with durability and have no concerns. So if you can afford the extra difference in $$$, just go XX1! Although to be fair the GX is an excellent option for value! And let’s be honest, most of us won’t notice them grams even though we chase it 😂 I want XX1 also because of the aesthetics, and I like carbon, and I like Ti 😉
so the xx1 axs uses better pulley wheel hardware, bearings, bushings, & pivots. was wonder if could swap these hardware pieces from my xx1 mechanical derailleur to a GX axs? any thoughts?
3 years ago I was that dude saying I don't need more batteries in my life, since then I had 2 twelve speed bike, XT & TRP Tr12, geez those aren't low end components yet I spent too much time adjusting and changing cables... Im ready 😂🎉
Is the XX1 really less durable than the X01? I got a good deal on the XX1 and went for it, although I mainly ride enduro ... Should I have gone for the X01?
Theoretically, yes. XX1 has a carbon cage (like XTR). X01 has alloy stuff I believe (like Deore XT). I'd say you should be just fine, just depends if you would rather have a bent or possibly broken derailleur cage if you have a rock strike (carbon is less likely to have problems, but if it does, it's worse). I'd say don't worry about it. If/when you need a new derailleur get what you want. X01 would be my vote tho. Btw Brandon Semenuk used an XX1 derailleur for Rampage.
Hey great video, but can you tell me why the gx axs kits seem to ship with the white bgap tool and the xo1 and up axs kits seem to ship with the blue bgap tool? There seems to be confusion as to which tool to use. I was under the impression that the white tool works on all eagle cassettes regardless of which eagle gear you have (50-52) since you clip it onto the 42t gear, but my LBS says you have to use the blue tool for axs.
amazing and nice tech.. but for some reasons i think i will stay on mech. all you have to do is use it anytime without worries for low battery or forget to charge before the ride..
You make wonderful videos! 👏 I’ve got a question: 🤨 I only have these words 🤔. (behave today finger ski upon boy assault summer exhaust beauty stereo over). How do I use this? 🤨
That depends which cassette you currently have! These derailleurs work great with SRAM and Shimano wide range 12 speed cassettes, which most modern bikes have these days! -Tor 😎
My friend runs that setup, XTR cassette and axs shifter/derailleur. Works like a dream. The only thing is he can’t downshift 3 gears at a time like you can on a mechanical shifter but, he’s still happy.
My dad made a bike with devel super Lexi with fox 32 and an xx1 rd he joined a triathlon with it and got it correct I don’t know if he intended to make a xc the fact he made just so my mom could use her bike I used her bike before his devel came in
No I´m not a Dentist, but I go with XX1. Because its so much lighter to spend the money to save 100grams at the rear derailleur, then saving 100grams on my body 😂
I'm not the kind of rider who can justify paying hundreds to save 80 grams. My GX 1x with a 10-50 cassette and 40t Rival crank is being installed right now, can't wait to try it out.
Solid video TY. Question, I have the GX version right now and am considering picking up an XO1 as a BU in case I happen to destroy the GX. On my last outing I banged the derailleur and the part that has the Sram logo "GX" on it seems to be made of plastic and am concerned about durability. Does the XO1 also have a plastic shell or is it made out of metal like the regular analog GX option? If not, I'll just get a BU GX and save the bucks. Thanks!
I wouldn't run it. I actually just ordered a full xt 11-speed drivetrain, because it's cheaper and lighter than my old eagle. Don't really need more gears tbh
Oof. I was liking the sounds of the X01, but not at that price point! Heck, not even at half that price point! It would have to be under $300 for me to even be remotely interested.
for aggressive mtb/enduro, only M7000 SLX/M8000 XT. I've removed SRAM 12s from 2 of my bikes, in favour of Shimano 11s - way smaller, durable, without stupid price and I don't hit rocks or stumps on my rides anymore.
Which would you run? The more affordable GX, the X01 for a lil' weight savings or the bling blam XX1?
You could send me all three to find out

Allready got my Gx. Simply fantastic
X01 I reckon. I'd feel a bit dirty having a battery on my bike but electronics is where it seems to be heading. Embrace the change.
I would go with the XO1 because of the weight and durability. I am not a very aggressive rider to get the XX1.
