Which one would you pick for what specific tasks? Also, make sure you give Paperlike a try, if you have ANY iPad! paperlike.com/ZoT22
Neither, if I had to get a Mac, I'd wait for the M1X MacBook Pro. Otherwise, I'd get a laptop and run Linux on it!
General rule: if you need to create something, then MacBook all the way, if you just read or watch something then the iPad is better.
Don’t even try to use iPad as laptop replacement. It is good as a secondary device, but you will need a real laptop/desktop. As secondary device you don’t need the magic keyboard either (more expensive than an iPad 8 gen, what the heck Apple thinking).
@@cameronbosch1213 are you going to wait for the M2 MacBook Pro when the M1X MacBook Pro is released? just buy a device when you need it.
I just returned the iPad Pro 12.9" today because the things I was doing, I can do the same on a MacBook Air and save $400+ too. iPad is great to have as a second screen if you already have a MacBook. If a user does not have either device, start off with a MacBook first, then worry about a iPad later.
Another good video thanks guys. I use my iPad for reading and note taking, but my iMac for serious work
Define “ Real Work”. This is the problem with Daniel and most Tech UA-camrs. All their reviews and comparisons are made assuming most people using Apple products are some kind of “content creators”. Not everyone has or wants to run a UA-cam channel, code or make podcasts. MacBook Pros are amazing and superior for content creation, even though a minority of tech youtubers use nothing but Lumafusion and their iPad Pros. Here is the thing. Nobody i know in business creates content for UA-cam, Podcasts or Codes. An iPad Pro from 2018, or even the latest generation iPad Air is more then sufficient for 99% of people in business. Taking notes and working with documents with an Apple Pencil is a dream on the iPad and made me dump the laptop for good. Benchmarks are great, but again unless you are making content they really don’t matter a whole lot.
Sorry sir, iPad pro 2018 and iPad Air 2020 is not sufficient mainly because of RAM….
See we in real estate are a network of draftsman, architects, estate agents, buyers, vendors, banks, mortgage brokers etc…
When I open the high res PDF file of house design and floor plan, the iPad which has 4gb RAM (256 GB version) totally struggles and sometimes crashes apps, forget about juggling between apps when opening these files which goes to all of us involved in the sale of a property….
So, definitely not 99% of people will be happy with the limited RAM of older versions of iPad
@@robinarora8137 but what about the new M1 iPad?
@@jiawei0917 this is what I am saying M1 iPad is what is needed for a lot of people whereas some people think only 1% people need M1 iPad, I believe may be 20-30% people need M1 iPad, mainly because of RAM
@@robinarora8137 I agree, apart from the miniLED display which is a great upgrade, for me, the RAM was the big positive. Coming from a 2018 iPad Pro with only 4GB, nearer 3.2GB, it is a major upgrade for the user experience. I have had zero issues with RAM management on the M1 so no apps being killed or even apps being paused and compressed. YT creators ignore this fundamental improvement and it is rather lazy especially as they whine on about the M1 being too powerful, and how stupid is that, the 2018 A12X was way too powerful and YT influencers were all praising that, sounds like sour grapes to me?
This is the comment I've been looking for. I have an iMac back in my office for when I do my real research/workload and i've been looking for a replacement for my old 2019 mbp 15" for on-the-go use. What has me considering the iPad is the fact that I am a student and freelancer, so when I need to take notes for class or business meetings I believe the iPad will be much more convenient. Also as a designer, I would love having the apple pencil for my sketches and prototyping. Theres a lot more use cases than what's being described in a lot of these videos
As an iPad Pro owner, regardless of whether I need to do real work or not, I would go crazy if my only device was an iPad. Not having proper windows and a legit file system would be extremely frustrating. the other day I was trying to do research for a trip in safari and doing that alone on the iPad Pro was so cumbersome vs doing it on my MacBook Pro
Definitely agree, have m1 ipad pro great device, especially when you have macbook
Truth.
For me, even a macbook is too cumbersome doing the real stuff. I prefer using two monitors + a real pc/mac + ergonomic mouse and keyboard.
Lucky man who can spend on TWO machines!!! Probably what Apple wants...
@@xblahblahblahblah my point is you should get a MacBook if you can only have a single device
apple once said the ipad was gonna be a laptop killer but then they remembered it meant killing their macbook too... Since then they made sure that ipad software was as limiting as possible so it would never cannibalize their macbooks :(
Exactly
Which makes total sense and you’d have to buy both! $$$$
You forgot to talk about the whole Apple Pencil part of the iPad, as well as it’s uses for artists and designers. I’d say those are pretty huge selling points for the iPad.
15:05 Here he did mention it. Not as detailed, but at least it was mentioned 😁
I totally agree, in my view the only reason to by the Ipad is when you need the apple pen functionality it is definetly not the device to buy if you solely use it for laptop tasks, which he was wanting to do leading his conclusion to the macbook.
I dont think the ipad would win at all. Ipad is the most frustrating thing to have. Its hard to edit downloaded files, cant view emails that you’re about to send and just basic business/ school stuff and there’s multiple steps for you to actually write on the downloaded file. Such as transferring the doc to a pdf format. Fonts are restricted.. if you wanna sign signatures well too bad you have to open notes scribble, screenshot and open safari to open google doc. I get that you can have more motor control for ipad but its a big dummy. If anything wait till apple fixes the software apps and make it actually usable for students/ anyone who would use it for work. Don’t get me wrong artists probably use procreate often but it doesn’t offer what mac offers and that versatility with documents. Although its good for downloading movies so you can watch netflix/disney + on the go.
@@mr.anonymousoppai3725 I’m a student with an iPad mini, and I’m not facing any of the problems you mentioned. Do you own an iPad?
@@mr.anonymousoppai3725 I think it obviously can’t compare to a laptop because that’s exactly what it isn’t supposed to be , I think it’s geared more toward creativity, rather than productivity, for me personally I would chose the iPad because It can still do most of the thing a MacBook could do ,albeit in a less productive manner, yet I can still use it for the main purpose which is digital art. Really depends on the purpose , the Apple Pencil compares to even the greatest graphics pens available atm. And user interface is great on procreate and much other art apps . I do wish however that opening windows was a thing on the ipad
Thank you for this video you really nail it with the video. You and your team because this is one of the comparisons we would like to see and check specially when you are checking videos and research.
Hmm. Windows wallpaper on macbook.
Personally, I had my 2017 macbook pro (the first gen slim design) for about 5 years and it has been great. My only problem is that I use my macbook only for photo editing and occasionally video and with my rare eye disease that makes things harder to see, I’d either need another monitor to see details or I’d need to zoom in all the time. With the ipad pro xdr screen, I can see contrast perfectly and zooming in with the apple pencil or with fingers feels way more natural. My only downside is that I need to buy the magic keyboard separately to get that easier typing experience. I’d say for artists, it’s an amazing tool that can work for you if you make sure the apps work good for you.
This was the best comparison I could find. I would personally pick the MacBook out of these but I just use an iPad Air 4 for emailing, web browsing, research for school, and watching videos on UA-cam. I just like its versatility with the tablet and laptop. Plus its really fast and has good battery life
Great review. Your personal insights really helped me.
Very honest review & information. Thanks mate
This is a really excellent comparison. Thanks.
This helped me so much in my selection. Thank you.
Thanks a lot , this video made me think a lot about this 2 device and will help me to make the right purchase!
Awesome comparison, the weight of the keyboard and battery life are why I returned my iPad M1.
This video had some good information but I feel it is targeted towards very specific types of users, content creators and power users. Skipping the Apple Pencil entirely is an oversight. Notetaking with that is a HUGE bonus. The average user's work comes down to word, excel, power point, and note taking - all of which are great on the iPad. Obviously both are great devices and it comes down to personal preference and use, I just think the iPad got the short end of the stick when it comes to it's versatility and positives.
The average user does NOT necessarily use it for those things if at all for them.
I being a Tech UA-camr, cannot even imagine making a comparison video, this excellent.. ❤️
Wow after looking at this video I didn't even realize I had an extra port on my magic keyboard for my iPad pro m1. This is a very informative video
Amazing homework you did, lot helpful video, keep making more, Enjoy!!!
I just love your videos so much! Always informative and fun to watch! Excellent work Daniel!
Best video to chooose between two 2021 Legends 🔥
iPads I think are more for leisure and MacBooks are more for work and can also be used for leisure too. They are both equally portable too. iPads can have some advantages for work like with Apple Pencil for designers. I've had an iPad and really didn't end up using it much. The differences other than price is the MacBooks are an all in one with the screen and keyboard, whereas iPads are not. Overall, MacBooks have more pros than the iPads.
Have a 2018 12.9” 3rd iPad pro. Not getting another tablet for awhile.
After watching this video I can say tablet won't replace laptop anytime soon because of battery, track pad and simultaneously multiple workflow processing limitations. But both laptops and tablets have their place in our lives. To switch between the track pad and touch screen on the tablet is amazingly convenient. The blurring of the background with the camera and the camera following your face is really awesome for the tablet.
thank you! i went to best buy today and was torn between the ipad and the macbook.. while the guys that work there are as helpful as they can be, it’s better to just know what you NEED and want from the device and the macbook is definitely what i need, almost walked out with the ipad today, glad i didn’t! 🙌😌
Update? Hows has you experience been with the MacBook?
Great, realistic review. Thx
I first heard about paperlike from watching your videos and was going to order one for our iPad Pro 12.9. But I keep reading bad reviews like the coating losing the ‘paper-like’ coating and scratch marks appearing. Have you experienced this?
In other words you have to buy em’ both
Excellent video very professional 😃
Love your work
thanks, this helps a lot
Thanks for the video 👍
That was really useful to listen to 👍
Thanks bro 💯
Evening Dan 🙂
All I can tell you is my 2021 iPad Pro, is outstanding and I’m loving it! 👍🏻👌🏻💕😊 xx
I work in Aviation, and my iPad Pro [with 5G] is PRICELESS!!! 🙌
Do you guys recommend it for college classes
Would the Apple Keyboard make a difference for the iPad as compared to the MacBook Pro ?
imo, both of those can't replace each other.. depends on the user perspective and style 😬
Excellent video. Thanks a lot
I feel like you’re the type of guy that bumps up the brightness to the maximum at all times… often I even find myself wishing my devices had an even lower brightness setting.
Also, I’m pretty sure you’re not getting the advertised battery life on your devices due to bumping up the brightness (I imagine)
Video superb, ca si de obicei !
Good video, there is a lot of future for Apple M processors!
I think so too!
@@ZONEofTECH should I get a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro M1 instead of the iPad Pro 12.9 M1 I’d only be watching videos and movies most of the time?
Love your vids
I’ve been using my ipad pro 2018 as a second screen lately on my i9 intel macbook and that works pretty well. Quite sad because an ipad pro is quite the expensive second screen. Still waiting on that decent IpadOS update and finder/cross-app support.
With iOS 16 about to drop; will the hardware be better utilized? Meaning the M1 2TB iPad Pro, and the RAM. Will it give Lumafusion a boost? Has your opinions changed from when you made this video? I would use it for Lumafusion, and Affinity Photo. And watching movies, and UA-cam, and messages.
Re: phone battery drain by creating a Hotspot from your phone to the iPad 16:55
You can use the iPads' battery to help keep the phone charged,
via thunderbolt to lightning. 😉
Which would you prefer for doing live streams? Is one easier or somehow more capable or versatile? I'm trying to decide between a keyboard for my M1 iPad Pro or purchasing a new M1 MacBook Air or M1 Mac Mini.
Loved the detailed comparison and your final thoughts man!
Thanks!
The summary of the 2 is iPad is just a constant fight and workaround of basic workflows. It's just more productive to use a real device. The iPad is still a media consumption device which can function as an occasional device for some tasks if you are on the move.
I am eagerly waiting for your comparision review between iPad Pro 2021 and Samsung s8 Ultra. When will you do it, sir? which one would be better for a person like me who works such as writing press release, conducting video conference and publishing books? Please need your suggestion.
So is it worth $600 difference to go from a 8GB 12” M1 IPad Pro to the 14” M1 16Gb Mack book Pro for the screen and memory performance for someone who consumes media content and does light office applications and web conferences?
Great video thks
You are a hard worker👍
Awesome comparison! I have an old iPad, so is getting slower. I still love it, but I will be getting a MacBook soon. Now I have to decide if I really need the MacBook Pro or The MacBook Air.🤔🌷🌷
If you are only going to use it for basic usage (web browse, movies, UA-cam, Microsoft Products, read books), get the Macbook Air. If you plan on using it for heavier task for longer periods of time, i would say go for the Macbook Pro because the fan will keep it cool which should extend the life of the M1. Right now is a good time to buy if you need one right away because they both are on sale. If you are not in a rush, just wait two more months on the official announcements from Apple on new products.
Good video!
Thanks for the reviews. Which 2020 model would you Recc below? Appreciate the help!
1. MBA - $1259
8/8 Core
16GB unified memory
1TB SSD1
2. MBP - $1295
8/8 Core
16GB unified memory
512GB SSD1
I wonder what you think is better now with the new MacBook Pro line up out
Do u think they actually can extend the Mac OS with thos Ms processors in the future ? Pushin them to their best..dont think its at their full potential(m1)
They would never do that…. It would just ruin their laptop business…and ipad pro was never marketed as a laptop but rather as a laptop replacement..so macos is not a possibility.
iPad is cool most definitely. Can you please talk more about the up coming iMac M1 pro?
Interested on macbook air m1 vs both macbook pro and ipad m1. I have a well specced mbp 2019 16" and would like a smaller option
Can you review Logitech Combo touch for the iPad
great stuff , keep it going ! (I still want the new iPad Pro!)
Can I ask which one is better for photography editing. I am a photographer and I’ve been using one of the earlier iPad Pro is I think the generation 2 one and I do like it but I think it’s time to upgrade
I have question that apple will allow to install Mac os in iPad pro 2021 in future.
Ipad pro can make power point slides. Can connect with projector easily like window laptop
I am a basic user - internet, email, MS tools etc. The main thing I dislike about the iPad is the touchscreen keyboard. I am never accurate at it. The main thing about the MacBook Pro that I dislike is that when I am lounging on the sofa or my bed, the form factor I need is the iPad. So I end up having both. If I had to choose only it would be the MacBook Pro.
I feel like i need a smaller laptop. I have MacBook pro 16, and its too big to take it with me when im going to library. Should i get iPad 12.9 or MacBook pro 13?
I need Windows and Linux on my McBook Pro. Does iPad Pro does virtual machine?
I'll probably end up getting the new Macbook then, though once I've seen what the new one will be like. While I'll eventually be getting a new iPad as well, my current one (which is 3+ years old) works just fine!
i can refer you to the best plug when it comes to apple ipad.......Hackjet0 on instagram....... you can buy in cheap price from them and there delivery was fast.💯
I know this is an older video - but I am comparing the 14" M1 MBP - has the new XDR display vs the M1 12.9" iPad Pro. I have a 2020 iPad Pro (so would be a screen upgrade and storage upgrade) and an M1 MBA - so would upgrade the MBA to the Pro. - usage - watching videos, social media, emailing, web and. some office app work as well as doing presentations from time to time. Looking for battery life and great screen. I do like the way UA-cam and FB are handled on the iPad vs MBA having to use Safari
Christmas is everyday for tech UA-camrs
got the m2 pro instead of this m2 ipad due to this review, and plus i already had the ipad mini 2019, am loving the mac!
Explaining for your self 🤔 how is for traveling and for daily activities on internet?
Written September 22, 2021
The official release of IPADOS 15 allows apps to use up to 7 extra GB on M1 16GB for a max of 12GB with 4GB reserved for OS whereas before apps were limited to 5GB on 16GB M1
The base M1 8GB also gets the boost of using up to 6GB with 2 reserved for OS
Don’t know how much the extra 7GB and 4GB will make in the ipad M1 into a more powerful device but the 12GB and 6GB limit are very much nicely welcomed.. and maybe we’ll see some better functionality in these remaining 3 months as a start
I would like if some other youtuber do videos on windows like this
This is why I’m sticking with my 2020 iPad Pro with all the trimmings for computing on the move, but a stocking Windows gaming laptop for the heavy lifting (i9-10900K, 32GB RAM, RTX 2080 Super). I have the entire Adobe CC on it, whereas just three apps are available in a nerfed form on the iPad Pro. And I can play all my Steam games on it at max or very high settings.
I had a M1 iPad Pro 12.9 with the magic keyboard and Apple Pencil. then someone asked me if he can swop his MacBook Pro m1 for my iPad. I was not keen. then decided to actually do it. and if not the best choice I ever made. Never knew that the m1 was so good on battery life. and talking about apps.. even windows apps over Crossover can run where the iPad you were forced with the apple App Store. using chrome for Disney plus, Safari gives issues. but otherwise I don't think you can compare them at all. they are so different, one is a expensive limited tablet, whereby the MacBook is a proper tool
but when u used magic keyboard it turns on notebook no? Witch magic keyboard its can dowload PC games and apps so its two in one :3 I cant to decide which one :( Ik macbook pro is more powerful but not too much and it can be only macbook but iPad can be iPad or (with magic keyboard) macbook and i can used him for more things(fotos and fun) pls help me someon to decideee :(
Can I use this ipad for coding instead of macbooks as a developer?
Apple should release a MacBook 2in 1 with a slot for its own stylus that would be sooo good
Hey there! The time was my birthday!
I’m a dentist so in sum a computer dummy lol and you just made my life easier…. I had no idea what to get and for my everyday use iPad Pro will do the job! Thank you
I prefer my iPad. I use it for everything.once you lear its quicks and gestures, it’s my laptop replacement
I’m thinking of getting a iPad Pro m1 2TB 2021 or the 16 in. With Touch Bar for digital design and digital art for college and idk which one to buy. Anyone pls help
iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard for me, hands down, since I don’t do school or editing videos. iPad is just so much fun to use!
Macbook or iPad for computer engineering pls
I just bought an IPAD PRO. It’s really work good. I love this
Thanks bro, my 2018 iPad Pro is still running strong (only issue now is I bought the 64gb, so that was a mistake I could realise now). I was thinking of upgrading to the new iPad M1 now, but now after watching your video, I’m gonna stick with my 2018 12.9” iPad and maybe buy a external SSD or something and call it a day (because experience on both is still the same as you said).
Now waiting for the M1X MBP to upgrade my 2015 13” MBP. That would be a bigger upgrade I guess, than upgrading my iPad!
I have said this on a few other pages and I will say it again I actually would like them to make an iPad Pro without a camera. I honestly cannot remember the last time I took a photo with an iPad yes you could have a front facing camera for conferencing and video calls no problems but just remove the back camera and save us $500 make two models one with the camera and one without. Give us options I really like the iPad because it’s much more portable. One of the things I would’ve done with the MacBook Pro is make it a removable screen and I think you’ve almost combined the two products into one.
Do I get:
1 Ipad Air & 1 Macbook Pro M1 pro
or
1 Ipad Pro M1 & 1 Macbook Pro M1
?
After trying to use my iPP for years as my main mobile device I went back to a Surface Laptop recently and use my old 2017 12.9" iPP a media and web consumption device only.
The funny thing is that the Surface Laptop has eliminated some of the weak points that even the MacBook Pro has. E.g. is has a touch screen and an pencil as an additional input device to the excellent touch pad and it has a 3:2 display that is much nicer and nearer to iPad than the 16:10 MacBook display. The battery life is also insane with the AMD Surface Laptop 4 by now and it still has MagSafe which Apple omitted several years ago...
For the "real" desktop work I still use my 27" iMac with a second 27" display. No mobile device beats that for these tasks...
Honestly I would love to get a MacBook Pro, but only if they give it a 5G modem.
Anyone know when M1X macbook coming out?
No reliable sources.
There is a file progress bar on files app in iPad Pro
II would wish they would make an apple Ipad the size of a macbook pro. 16inches. That would be SO awesome. Or if the macbook pro would use the pencil.
I have no need for a laptop my work doesn't require one and I generally don't need it for home lol the ipad is for me as I enjoy it for movies and considering I'm an OLED fan boy the mini led on my ipad pro is ridiculous good 😶 never seen colours so bright and accurate on any device 🙈 both my OLED TV and my note 20 ultra have weird circular lines on the screen for certain colours
IPad Pro for my needs is my one and only computer with the brydge 12.9 keyboard for my needs it works better
Pls give us timelines
I have Apple iPad Pro 10.5 inches 256gb . I am planning to upgrade, but I'm confused to get myself the new MacBook Pro M1 or the 12.9 inches iPad Pro. Please help me decide.
we are already in August, hold off until late September when more details of any new iPads or Macbooks will be announced. After using both the 12.9 iPad Pro and the M1 Macbook Pro, i prefer the iPad Pro for comfortably using it while laying down but you save more money on getting the Macbook Pro. Right now MBP are $1099 and the iPad Pro are $1099 without a keyboard. If you are not into programming, get the iPad Pro.
@@WidePhotographs yeah the idea of waiting is much better. I'm not into programming but I'm tired of the basic apps that are being provided on the iPad pro. I want to go for the macbook pro m1 (full spec version) to try the final cut pro like apps. I'm already trying lumafusion but using it on ipad is limited. I think I'll be able it use my current ipad for designing etc with ghr procreate and affinity designer whereas use the pro apps on the macbook pro m1 or m1x 😉
@@shams923 I’ll be honest, if I was working with video editing or building multiple apps for clients, I would go for the Mac mini because I would prefer a desktop setup to comfortably work for hours. Once I am done, I would use a iPad Air for media consumption.
Mac OS X & Logic Pro on the iPad 👍
