Legend speaking to his general in Medieval 2: "I want to let you know that every man that dies in this battle, dies because you didn't capture the enemy general last time." Legend in Warhammer 2: "Now you die-die!" - casts a spell on his own clanrats and warp-bombs them
I definitely am not complaining, just pointing out what I think is happening. The most fun part of any total war game is the feeling of desperately trying to fight from behind to stabilize. I can guarantee legend is having more fun playing these than if his job was to finish the steam rolling part of a campaign.
How in the hell is this a genuine position? How can someone be this bad to lose all that territory? :| You'd realise the game was lost way before this. He's only 34 turns in. You can't lose that badly in 34 turns unless you do literally -nothing-...
Wow. I'm impressed at those elite skills. Specifically, knowing so subtle a way as the exact number of a population boom bonus to figure out the campaign difficulty setting. That's certainly a connoiseur's attention to detail!
Well it'd be rude of me to offer to fix it. If Jackie wants me to fix it I'd happily give it ago. I took a look at the campaign and things don't look good for him but I reckon I could turn it around. Personally I think he'll manage on his own, it's just a matter of how many hours does he want to spend with 2-3 cities until he gets out of the shit.
I don't like the latest rome 2 dlc so I don't really want to. I've got no shortage of other campaigns to fix. I'm just saying if and only if Jackie wants me to fix it I will. I personally don't want to.
It would be entertaining and I'm sure it would get a ton of views but I doubt he wants to go out like that...lol, but after I saw his campaign I couldn't help but think of this series. Maybe it would be enough for a mfing nerf to the bs in that dlc but that game is so far behind Attila in so many ways I'll never play Rome 2 again. I have lighting mods, raze=sack, and about 5 other mods going and it's far from perfect but I enjoy attila so much more (minus the huns but you basically squash what makes them so annoying with the raze=sack gem...just wish they would adopt the new family tree UI from Thrones.
Wish you were still doing these I had Dacia campaign in R:TW remastered that became a disaster very quickly, I eliminated Thrace in like 5 turns and thought it was going to be smooth sailing, then i got triple gangbaned by Macedon, Germania, and Scythia , Macedon especially hit me with like 4 doomstacks and I only had 2 armies and no money. Got my first ever R:TW game over. Sad times. Would have liked to see you get out of that pickle.
The concept of these campagins is brilliant, well done both for your skills and this great idea. Can we expect some content on Empire/Napoléon or Fall of the Samouraï ?
+LegendOfTotalWar I assume you'd also nope the fuck out of a fucked and destroyed Western Roman Empire in Atilla too? Since you don't really like Attila to begin with?
As far as I can recall, he doesn't like how it limits the number of armies you can make and he doesn't like that it emphasises defensive play, when his style is to play one trigger-finger shy of a "This is Total War" run. Also pre-patched corruption, which would get so bad you'd start LOSING money from taking settlements.
I don't know, this campaign looks kinda off to me. I mean 35 turns in and most of the AI's don't even have a full stack? The turks have a larger army yeah, but that's not a full stack. Then all the cities were guarded poorly and the jihad attacking Constantinople was a joke. Is this particular campiagn on a lower difficulty? How can then someone be in such a f'd up situation, especially playing as the Byzantines and counting in the poor and very forgiving AI behaviour? Oh well, Legend saved the day that's what counts and watching these videos I learned some things I never even tried. Very good video.
best thing about medieval 2 is the loading times... in every newer total war game I end up auto resolving as much as possible because it takes about 5 minutes to load a battle and back to campaign
Imagine teleporting LGOTW to Constantinople the 6th of 1453 and telling how to win the siege « Ok here, take that Greek Flamethrower on this angle to burn these fuckers, be sure every gate is really closed »
I think with 4 towers shooting flaming arrows and 1 squad of archers using flaming arrows you can burn it before they hit the gate. Especially from this position they will always hit the ram even when it reaches the gate
honestly i come back to this vid just to hear the merchant hate, you should do a "Legend Roasts Merchants" video lol love your content man always gonna be a fan !
What a great campaign. I really enjoyed that. Byzantines are my favourite faction. :D I would have liked to see Smyrna conquered (complete the Aegean) but this is a pretty impressive effort!
Honestly, Forced Drawouts shouldn't be considered exploits. They should be features. There are loads of examples of medieval sieges being resolved through feints intended to trick an enemy into leaving their defenses. I would just limit yourself to using a drawout once per faction, simulating the faction getting wise to your tricks (and maybe any ally of a faction you've used a drawout on is "aware" of the trick as well)
Actually, writings were dear and rare in the Middle Age. You see Medieval generals fell into the same simple traps again and again and again. Hard to imagine in the age of internet and universal education.
I know, but if you don't limit your use of cheats somehow it just saps the fun out of the game. If I ever use cheat codes in a game I always limit their use somehow. One thing I really like to do is having "mentors." Basically you give one general maxed out governor traits (Good_Administrator 3, Good_Farmer 3, etc.) and if you have another general sit in the same city or army as that general for a few turns they can get all of the same skills but one rank lower. Also, I give all of my generals a few basic ancillaries that are just common sense like "overseer" for governors and "drillmaster" for combat generals.
Midironica I think the main problem for a realistic game lies in AI and hardware limitations. Hitherto, TW AI are far too simple to match with any experienced player, so they have to increase difficulty through artificial constraints. Then these constraints break the immersion, such as infinitely respawnable hoards, or every AI hates the player. Ideally, it should be like what chess had done: at level 10 no one can beat AI, average people are defeated about 50% of times by level 4-5 AI. Then people can have fun, without AI having unrealistic advantages that force players to exploit AI stupidity.
Maybe average garrisons easily fall trap to drawout and the like. While Caesar, Attila and the like always outmanoeuvre the player in their own styles, but have their own vulnerabilities... Hannibel, Napoleon and the like are basically invincible, until overwhelmed by their enemies. Obviously, this optimal solution is not currently possible due to dumb AI.
