Just found this video today, right after I read that the Black Album has been on the Billboard 200 chart for 750 weeks now, only 3 other albums have achieved that. Top 3: 990 weeks for Pink Floyd's 'The Dark side Of The Moon', 843 weeks for Bob Marley's 'Legend' and 813 weeks for 'Journey's Greatest Hits'.
actually the black album is the one that got me into metal. I was introduced to it by my uncle back in 1990, and after loving it so much and learned how to play the guitar with almost all of the songs on it I began digging and found out about the early metallica albums, then came slayer, megadeth, sepultura, kreator. everything just follows.
I love how most metal heads gatekeep metal so much that they call any album without “metal feel” a non metal album/song. Plus they call them posers, cba, equal to dream fans gatekeeping dream smp
Having lived it, certainly a drop off from ...Justice, but still, it was interesting enough and better than anything else we got in 1991. Plus we got like a 6 year tour out of it so most cities got to see them live 2 or 3 times because of that.

The album doesn’t suck. Some of the songs are quite good, just so overplayed that I don’t want to listen to them very often. GREAT FOR LEARNING GUITAR THOUGH! LITERALLY METAL GUITAR 101!!!
The most underrated songs from the Black Album are: Don’t Tread on Me Of Wolf and Man My Friend of Misery Struggle Within Through the Never The God that Failed Man, these songs should get more credit!
It wasn't a bad album, it just got overplayed until we groan when we hear it. The best tunes got ignored for years "My Friend Of Misery" "The God That Failed"
The black album is nowhere close to the 80s albums, but that's more a testament to how good those releases were. I.e. the black album is still a solid record, it's just their earlier albums defined the thrash metal genre so there was nowhere to go but down.
Always loved Metallica, yet when they shared they want their music to bring people together, I became a super fan. They know the power of music. Great musicians that don't take themselves too seriously.
no one said anything about their first few albums. That's when they were good. It's after that they lost who they are, and became sellouts. How do you not see the huge difference from master of puppets and the black album? it sounds like two different bands.
My first METALLICA album is Master of Puppets. And I bought it when didn't even speak English and knew nothing about metal music. I was sitting in a high school classroom. I couldn't speak English at the time and was shy, so I just sit and looked down on my desk most of the times. One day I look down and saw that someone has written the word METALLICA on it . I went to Kmart one day and recognized the word METALLICA on a cassette and I bought it. One of my buddy who came to the U.S earlier than me saw it and ask me dude you listen to METALLICA? I told him yeah to be cool. But in truth I hardly listen to it when I am alone. I only listen to it when I'm around people just to be cool and yeah listening to METALLICA does make you look cool and sound cool. When The black album came out, it became my favorite album of all time. I thought black album was made for me. I had truck with an alpine stereo, a 15" kicker sub and a ppi Amp and my black album and I'm good to go. People jam their rap tracks, I stick to my Black album. This is my METALLICA Story.
No one's mentioned how hard it is to write a song in the first place, especially metal songs, and play them on an instrument for over 5 minutes at a thrash speed! Justice, St. Anger, Death Magnetic, and Hardwired (please forgive me if I left any other Metallica album out!) All had lengthy songs! Its also like saying all the bands that influenced Metallica suck, if you all get my meaning, 'cause they don't! I personally really like Of Wolf And Man! The hard rock/thrash elements on the "Black" album is what I like, so if you haven't heard the album in awhile or never heard it, I suggest you all give it a listen, there's something for everyone! Cheers You Tubers! Thanks!

Metallica's black album after 30 years is still their biggest selling hard rock album of all time and one of the greatest hard rock album in the early 90's.
But certainly not the best album. It was not meeting the expectations of Metallica fans back then. The first four albums were so much better.
Lots of stuff is mega-popular that I loathe, selling a bunch of albums doesn't make me automatically like an album
@@gulliverthegullible6667 He said that it was the best selling hard rock album. The previous four was thrash metal so it's a different genre altogether
Black album is my most favorite Metallica album. I have all their albums, including St Anger, which was not the greatest with most fans.
@@wizzywizz2273 good point. Black Album was indeed Metallica's descent to Hard Rock, then they went to forgetable Moderate Rock.
I get the "Sellout" viewpoint from the hardcore OG fans and why that might sting, but this was still one of the greatest albums of all time.
Nah, it is pretty mediocre. Let's be honest. Its just that people liked the Black Album who dont like Metal, that is why it is famous. And that is a BAD sign.
Famous does not mean good.
@@gulliverthegullible6667 Maybe not, but millions of people still listen to songs on this album which can't just be a fluke. But that's where we enter the realm of personal opinion and it's always going to end up a fight as most internet opinion discussions often do nowadays.

I like how Kirk reads all of the "METALLICA SUCKS" without skipping any one of them.
Anyone who hates a band just because of one album is not a true fan. I'm a Metallica can and I can say without a doubt, Metallica is awesome!
Metallica always had a great sense of humour. 😂
2:27 James from the ´80s...great to see you healt again Papa Hetfield!!
actually the black album is the one that got me into metal. I was introduced to it by my uncle back in 1990, and after loving it so much and learned how to play the guitar with almost all of the songs on it I began digging and found out about the early metallica albums, then came slayer, megadeth, sepultura, kreator. everything just follows.
Was your uncle given a copy of the album before it was released on August 12, 1991?
That's like saying Green Day is what got you into punk.
@@bemery47 I mean 1991 :D
@@erisdiscordia5429 It was the sex pistols and the ramones who got me aware of punk again because of my same uncle. 🤣
“Better than anything else we got in the 90s”
You obviously haven’t listened to much 90s music.
I recommend Radiohead’s “OK Computer”

The album doesn’t suck. Some of the songs are quite good, just so overplayed that I don’t want to listen to them very often. GREAT FOR LEARNING GUITAR THOUGH! LITERALLY METAL GUITAR 101!!!
I still got the Tab book from like 1995? been playing like 26 years thanks to Metallica! very inspiring music... all the older albums

Of Wolf and Man
My Friend of Misery

The God that Failed

The black album is nowhere close to the 80s albums, but that's more a testament to how good those releases were. I.e. the black album is still a solid record, it's just their earlier albums defined the thrash metal genre so there was nowhere to go but down.
Death magnetic is more like their earlier albums than black album

"Dont buy any album from this band." Bet the dude never turned on Ride The Lightning or Master Of Puppets. 2 solid albums
The first five albums are all excellent.
no one said anything about their first few albums. That's when they were good. It's after that they lost who they are, and became sellouts. How do you not see the huge difference from master of puppets and the black album? it sounds like two different bands.

It was important to Lars that Kirk read all of the "Metallica sucks" 😂
This is so funny. Their reaction to the reviews is epic😂 Love you Metallica!!

Thanks!
lol yeah, you left a few out.
jamie... so you think justice was their first album?
The jump from Justice to the Black album was massive. If you were around at the time you would have felt the betrayal, it was real.
I would agree. Look, the Black Album got me through grad school, but it is five out of the first five. It is not Master of Puppets.
But everyone knows,
The biggest metal band of our planet is METALLICA!
Glad to see them in this show!💚

I saw them in concert 2 times. It depends on if they are pushing hard, or not to play live. James holds his voice back, the sound system was horrible, but i still moshed. Metallica is amazing
