    In this much requested video we pose the question, how far can an air rifle be deadly? Not enough credit is given to air rifles, but the performance of this.457 caliber Texan from Airforce Airguns may change your mind.

    • @OllyKilo
      @OllyKilo 8 років тому +2

      No you'd really struggle to get a springer to shoot well above 16fpe. The effort of cocking alone would make it impractical, and you've never get it shooting accurately with the double recoil. Springers perform best around 12fpe.

    • @TheZombieburner
      @TheZombieburner 7 років тому +3

      Not quite. I have a springer that drops about 20FPE and it's only about a 35 pound cocking effort and makes quarter sized groups.
      12FPE is only a baseline because lots of the companies are English and the English limited guns to 12FPE by law.
      I've also got a hatsan that's a .30 caliber break barrel, it's about a 50 pound cocking effort, and it's easy to shoot accurately. Hard to cock, but not so bad with a little bit of break-in.

      Near the same as the Hatsan piledriver on power, max out put with 320gr 726ft/lb. On my docs from Hatsan ,they say, it can be lethal up to 600 yards, well that’s what they say, These beasts are NOT toys. loved this demo.. MORE PLEASE. you should also do the bone and meat test, at say 50 and 100yrds. hows about a car will it go through. loads of ideas.

    You're the best at this UA-cam gun thing. You speak in clear, easy to understand terminology, you separate your opinions from fact, and when you don't know, you don't just start BSing your way through. You say that you don't know, but you'll find out. That deserves a like and a sub.

      Nice to see you know this......... Those rifles did not nearly have the power as today's air rifles have though. And high velocity air rifles are so expensive. ( But then more powerful then a Walther P99QA ) . On the other side the ammo is cheap. Besides don't want to walk all day with a scuba tank on your back ;) was not this rifle I was talking about by the way.

    This reminds me of a time whilst on the surface (sub sailor) and the weapon's officer decides to have some small arms training. I report to the bridge and am handed a .45 Thompson, semi auto mode. I picked a target and let a round go. It seemed like forever for that bullet to hit the target (about 200 meters give or take). Timing bullet trajectory to target in this video brought back some good memories of my military career. Cheers!

    Lewis and Clarke used an Air Gun back in 1803 when they crossed America, it was a 40 caliber best that I remember, the tank of gun was in the stock and held about 900 psig., it took around 1500 strokes of a bicycle type pump to fill it to capacity. They would put on shooting exercises at most Indians Villages to impress the Indians and bring a little fear into them since this air rifle could put a hole in a two in. board at two hundred yards, the Indians were very impressed and knew that they were out gunned by this weapons performance. The word spread among other Indian tribes along the way west so Lewis and Clarke as history told it, had very few run-in's with other Hostile Indians...

    Hey, love your content, I’ve been watching a lot of the long range stuff lately. Have you thought about getting an ez-up to set up over your bench for hot or rainy days? I do that, cheap and works great. Also I use a drone with an iPad to see my hits at long range. Don’t even fly the drone, just turn it on at the target on a stand, which saves battery. Then use the app on an iPad back at your bench.

    Question: do you find you get that supersonic crack in normal weather conditions? According to Wiki and other sources, air rifle bullets start having a significant drop in efficiency if they fully break the sound barrier, though there could be many reasons for exceptions in this case, hence my question.

    How far will a .30 Carbine kill? :P Kind of a nice old Army revisit I think, I'm sure they tested the M1 Carbine on pine board too, And I'm sure the myths of the .30 carbine not penetrating North Korean winter coats is still persisting even though it has been debunked by Ian McCullum

    I really enjoy your vids, I've got a .50 cal hammer, air guns are kinda hard to explain to my friends who only know powder guns. But I think they are impressive, I feel lucky to have chosen a .50 because of the access to so many bullets in .50 , I use black powder bullets in mine at .510 . My friends are amazed at the power and accuracy, even my big bore loving friends smile when they touch one off and feel the stock push into their shoulders from an air gun. LOL don't tell the government these things are bad ass. And can be mailed right to your house.

      Dont use black powder bullets in an air rifle you are damaging the rifling and wearing out the barrel ! the lead used for BP is much to hard, air rifle slugs are a softer lead

    • @airgundepot
      @airgundepot 8 років тому

      The on gun tank will give you about 5 to 10 shots depending on what weight of bullet you are using. There are smaller tanks called buddy bottles that you can tote around with you, usually a 100 cubic inch buddy bottle will give you about 5 or 6 full fills on the gun and will easily fit in a small back pack.

    • @southjerseysound7340

      Jan Hendrik Franke yes 1 yard is equal to .9144 of a meter.There is DECIMAL POINT there in case you missed it.So to convert yards to meters you multiply them by .9144 to get your answer in meters...........Or would you prefer to convert yards into inches so you can use centimeters or millimeters first and then into meters?lol

    This would be a good option for the boating enthusiasts, for offshore and blue water? Where other countries maritime Police and Customs laws will restrict firearms on sea vessels, but a pirate won't know the difference when hit with a silent high velocity pill from one of these bad boys? Maybe a spear fishing version could also be made?

      The Texan has a maximum velocity of 1,100 feet per a second which is 750 miles per an hour, which means it is traveling close to the speed of a 40 caliber handgun coupled with it's range capacity this rifle has the same deadliness of a 10.04 g (155 gr) Federal HST .40 caliber handgun within the 200 yard range. So with that said, this gun is basically a .40 caliber handgun with a elongated barrel that runs off air. Anything that the 10 gram HST round can penetrate up to 200 yards, the air gun will too.
