Hey Adin and Dweeb. Really really appreciate the discussion of addiction and ADHD in this vid guys. Currently in the throes of kicking my vodka habit and it’s been immensely helpful to hear abt Dweeb’s experiences. Its hard to acknowledge it to people I know so I know it takes balls to drop so casually in a public forum
wow. was totally caught off guard by the talk about ADHD and addiction. THANK YOU! im almost 1 year off a 20 year opiate addiction AND my substance abuse counselor just recommended i get screened for ADHD after picking up on a few traits. it really makes me feel better hearing you two talk about it. thank you!
Hearing other people talk about their experiences is what encouraged me to open up about this sort of thing. It makes it easier to self reflect knowing that others have gone through what you're going through. Makes it feel less like something is 'wrong' with you, ya know?
@@TechDweebyou are an inspiration dude. I appreciate your honesty and courage so much. Diagnosed with ADHD officially at age 50 helped me understand so many of the pieces of my life. Like you stated, it is an super power if harnessed appropriately. Love both you guys and your content and channels. Much success to you both!
I would absolutely love a podcast with you two. I love how you keep it real with opinions and the whole “character” with techdweeb is just too perfect.
Love what you do - great reviews and interviews! You are really helping to create a heartwarming community spirit around this hobby, in a way that I haven’t seen much in other fields - hats off to you for bringing us all together! 😁
You guys are special. Thank you. I am a recovering alcoholic nearly 3 years sober. Ive had a very tough time recently. My wife is concinced i have ADHD and i just shrugged it off. Listening to this i am going to look into it further. I also have found solace in retro gaming. Thanks so much for sharing this. Its extraordinary to me how when i get involved in new hobbies etc i find people i identity with everywhere. To hear 2 guys online sharing this reality is inspiring. I am not alone! Thank you and much love to you and all in this truly wonderful community. Long live the RG351P 😊
Hey man I'm so glad this helped you. I was just thinking about how I use new hobbies and interests to keep me happy, and then redirect to the "boring" stuff. It's essentially a way of managing an addictive style of behaviour!
I'm glad my mom never got me on Ritalin or even Aderal. She took away sugar from my diet and my hyperactivity went away. I only dealt with difficulty focusing or paying attention after that. And as an adult you learn how to force yourself to focus lol
Just gotta say thank you guys for being you. I’m an ADHD, recovering addict guy in my 40’s as well so this one hit home. My contracting business both salves and triggers my anxiety, so Retro Gaming is one of my healthier coping mechanisms. In your unique ways you both make me feel more like that is O.K, and that I’m O.K. Thanks for that.
I’m really glad this meant something to you. I think for a lot of addictive-type personalities thinking of things as right or wrong is unhelpful. But rather constructive and destructive behaviour.
I’ve just got into emulation handhelds and found Tech Dweeb as I was researching. He’s now my man crush. I’m almost certain that it was him dancing about in either one of his or Retro Corps videos.
Vernors originated in Detroit MI. Close to Southern Ontario. I grew up in metro Detroit and spent my summers in Ontario. A&W originated in California. Growing up in the 90s, I remember it being bigger in Michigan and Canada compared to other places. Root beer floats was a common celebration after a sporting event.
@@TechDweeb yeah it’s hard to find the words to describe the taste, spicy is kinda close. I would describe the carbonation as having bite, like the little bubbles are chaos gremlins nibbling your tongue.
Wow, who would have thought that a UA-cam series about retro handhelds and emulation could make you tear up :p I loved the conversation about how an addictive personality doesn't always equal negative addictions like drugs or alcohol. We can become addicted to nearly anything, honestly. When I quit drinking, I became addicted to healthy eating and exercise. My weight was already dropping due to lack of alcohol, but I ended up blowing out my knee because of the amount of running and exercising I was doing. You two are great and I want to thank you both for everything you do!
Fascinating interview. And relatable, in some ways. I really need to get back to my community and catch up, maybe set up a discord or something to keep me more engaged and motivated, instead of just letting tasks pile up. It's hard to get much done with this spine injury, but still, I could be doing a lot more.
Thank you both @Techdweeb and @AdinWalls I really appreciate this episode. I have stayed away from many games because they will consume me. I feel like you guys, where this hobby is an Outlet. Addiction and mental stuff is hard and a daily battle. It’s not something you complete in a day. Everyday it’s a new battle. Again thanks my friends keep up the amazing work.
@@adinwalls all is well my friend. I have an amazing support system. I am very much a fighter and as I like to say “I’m just built different.” Many of my struggles have been in the back seat for a good amount of time. God has taken the drivers seat in my life and for that I am grateful. 🫡
Great video!! I happen to come from the tabletop RPG hobby and I’m just getting into retro handhelds (I have an Anbernic 351v from 2022 and an Anbernic Cube is on its way). When you guys talked about D&D just after talking about The Walking Dead, I wanted to yell: there’s a Walking Dead ttrpg! And you can even play it alone or together without a game master (or just play it normally like d&d of course). 😊
I asked @adinwalls for this but he told me he's worried it would become TOO popular and he'd have fans breaking down his door even more than usual. Fair enough.

And to answer your question @TechDweeb it's because you give us a place to interact with you and each other and learn with and from you in our collective journeys. Your energy is magnetic and it attracts the right type of people.💚
The thing with Switch emulation is. Back when my Retroid Pocket Flip actually worked, I was excited to play Celeste (The real version). But then I realised I would not be able to transfer my Switch's save to it, and then, what is even the point... The same goes for most switch games. Sure you could emulate them, but I think losing the ability to sync saves is too much of a big deal, and that's only single player games. With multiplayer games, it would be pointless to emulate them. Imagine trying to emulate Mario Maker 2... One day, Mario Maker 2 will lose its servers, and somone is going to make third party servers for it that everyone will be using THEN emulating Mario Maker 2 would be really excellent. But that's not happening soon. I have good news also. Nowadays it's pretty much confirmed that the Switch 2 will continue supporting at least Switch cartridges. I'm going to guess that if they will go through that sort of problem, there will be Switch 2 cartridges, but even if there are still Switch cartridges, it means the dream isn't over yet.
