34:20 Wow, what an amazing insight to find that Russ' process is almost completely opposite to mine. I meticulously script and it takes so much time. I may have to experiment!
Russ is such an important person within the retro community. We absolutely love his videos and appreciate his work. Both he and Retropie Guy are just amazing. You guys have saved me so much money 😂 and ive learned so much!
Dude puts out a video three days a week. I put out a video and need like six weeks to recover lol. Can’t imagine the sacrifices it would take to hit almost 400k subs. Amazing stuff Russ!
I’ve watched Russ for a long time. Great interview. I’ve bought 4 retro devices after watching Russ and I followed his guides to set everything up - fantastic work and seems a great guy!
I've said it before and I'll say it again I'm really loving this new series, Adin! They're fun and conversational but really informative and inspiring at the same time. I also really appreciate the kind of meta angling of your questions-- you're more interested in talking about the history, trends, and behind-the-scenes content creation processes of the retro gaming space rather than talking about the specs of the latest retro device that's coming out for example.
Russ is the whole reason I got into the Retro Gaming “scene” if you want to call it that. I had very little tech experience and his starter guides have opened me up to a whole new world. I really appreciate him because without his videos I would’ve never had the patience or resources to bring back the nostalgia of my childhood.
Great interview. I've been following Rus since the RG351P days. He deserves all of the success that he has received. Definitely a pioneer in this community.
This is a great community. You guys all help each other out by passing devices around for review and appearing on each other's channels. Most of the people in this hobby are very willing to help you out. It's a hobby and it's supposed to be fun. I've been playing with MAME off and on for 20 years or so but I'm new to handhelds and emulating other systems. Both of your channels have been a huge help.
2 of my favorite youtubers together... It's amazing how so many people started their Retro handheld experience with the RG350. My first was the RG350M and I have followed retro handheld youtubers since. Good video - kind of surprised I didn't run across it sooner.
Seems like every retro gamer/handheld gamer is subbed to Retro Game Corps. Was a nice watch/listen 👍 Thanks AW 😊 Edit: Any plans for more of these? Would be interesting do one with perhaps ETA Prime, Taki Udon.. Although I doubt they would only cause of face reveal, although I guess just voice is fine too. Also maybe Wicked Gamer and Collector. Not sure who else.
Sorry I missed this comment. I already have episodes with Retrobreeze and Joeys Retro Handhelds out. And I have at least 3 more lined up. Yes I want to get Wicked on soon. ETA and Taki will take a bit of work I think
Lovely interview. I have never received your channel as a recommendation and have never seen your videos. Have subscribed now so won't miss your videos hereon. Hope you reach your goal subs soon. All the best.
I just won't buy anything he hasn't reviewed, which is easy because he reviews everything worth a damn. I make it a point to use his links and codes, because the man EARNS it. Even when I'm not in the market for a device, his reviews and insights are entertaining and down right comforting. A+ in every regard.
Awesome interview, thanks Adin! So insightful to ear Russ talk about his craft, and your own thinking/doubts about it, that’s a great community indeed! Just a small feedback: the framing on your view is perfect, bit it seems that the focus of the field of view was a little bit ahead of your face, like your hands on your desk are perfectly crisp but your head was most of the time slightly blurry. And God, I know your kink for abrupt endings but it’s always a bit harsh like "wait, no goodbye?!" 😄 But really good job in the end, I think your keep improving already great contents :)
Haha awesome! Yes I haven’t managed to play through the Gameboy version yet. But I have played through the NES version since starting emulation many times.
Thanks very much for two of my favourite YT peeps in the retro gaming space. It's been longer with Russ and more recent with Adin, plus thoroughly enjoyable with both. Thanks for this warm, friendly discussion!
Feedback right from the start… if possible I would prefer little bit zoom out on ur camera feels like u are really close and I think as u had devices on table and stuff like that could add to whole image…
Wow Navy E9…I wonder how long or how controlled he has to be to lose the sailors mouth. I’m not picking on military enlisted. The language I used in the military definitely had to be tampered down at home
Ha I didn’t even notice until right now! It’s because I’m was having a hard time recording in OBS at the same time as using Google Meet, so I had to record the screen capture of Google Meet and apparently it was flipped!
Great video Adin, you are a real ambassador to the retro gaming community and I love your video's and recent interviews. Retro Game Corps is awesome also. I would love it if you can interview with Techdweeb, his videos are really entertaining and informative and unique to the retro gaming community and he's a real character.
I am biased, but I'd say windows is the past. - Valve's push for Linux is here to stay. It's not something they are doing out of the kindness of their heart. Valve has only one problem and it's that its current PC market dominance makes them dependent on a single company that makes the OS where those games run. It's in Valve's best interest to remove windows from the equation. This doesn't mean they'll succeed, but I feel confident in betting that they will try. - Windows for ARM has a very big issue, compatibility is windows' biggest strength, which in this case is a double-edged sword. Windows for ARM doesn't accrue numbers because when people try it, they find it doesn't have the compatibility they expect from the windows brand. - We'll start seeing push from Apple trying their own at making an equivalent of Proton for OS/X. Due to the way the WINE codebase works, this push will also help Valve's own attempts.
btw according to your discussion about Android / WIndows / Linux Systems: Android is based on Linux kernels... So, there should be some compatibility @@adinwalls
This man right here, it's his fault. 4 months ago I was happy with my nintendo switch, now I keep buying retro handhelds every month or so, and the accumulated cost makes me feel very guilty.
A lot of my deployments were in the early 2000s and I usually just read books, but a lot of people had GBAs. After the PSP came out in 2005 I took that with me!
@Russ The Live Videos are a great idea. I think it would work well with your unscripted style. @Adin Enjoying watching your progress. Your videos resonate with my brain. I do wonder if I have ADD as well...
Okay ya I think that’s what Russ was getting at. If somehow there was financial motivation to improve all that, Linux would definitely be the final say in handheld systems
Word of advice as an interviewer: Don't insert "ahhs, mmm hmms, okays" when the other person is speaking. It's really distracting for observers of the conversation.
I would argue that Russ is a huge reason the retro handheld space has blown up the way it has in the last year. I think that would qualify him as a pioneer, but I also respect your opinion completely!
@@IS414H Well, I agree that there's a plethora of new handhelds on the market and more coming everyday and there's room for everyone's opinion on those new entrants. The point of my original comment was that this handheld scene has existed pretty much since we invented pockets so three years of utterly fantastic content from a dedicated handheld enthusiast does not rise to the level of pioneer in terms of retro gaming OTHER than to inspire other content creators to up their game or to start a channel of their own which is win win for absolutely everyone in this community.
@@STR82DVD I’m just saying the community has grown exponentially over the past year to year and a half and I think a lot of that is thanks to content creators like Russ. Without these creators we wouldn’t know a lot of these handhelds exist.

@@STR82DVD yeah for sure! I’m a 90s kid so I grew up with Dreamcast, but I also had all the other retro systems growing up since my dad was a big gamer. Thanks for the pleasant exchange! Don’t see that much anymore.
Russel's popularity skyrocketted in just a few short years to 300k subs.. its impressive.
And well deserved, hes very well spoken and very nice
Russ seems to be such a humble, genuine, wholesome person and that makes me love his videos so much more.
Yes he’s the real deal for sure

He's awesome!
