I once talked with some social media content gurus who told me that it's better if you suddenly end the videos without any conclusion so that people are caught off guard and less likely to stop watching before the end comes, because they don't know they are "near the end of the video". I wonder if this is what they do on purpose, I definitely get that vibe from most their vids.
@@edwardtuck7606 Then you're just spoiled lmao. The SSD is literally 100% fine, it wasn't even touched by the impact, why would you not use it? The cooler will obviously work worse than a brand new one, but you can at least sell it or give it away, not throw away a working cooler. The PSU should also be perfectly fine, as it didn't bend anywhere, and had plenty of space to go up during the impact
@M1szS The PSU not being bent isn't the main concern. It's that the impact could knock surface mount components off the PCB or rupture capacitors. In this case, electricity is no joke and you shouldn't be using possibly-compromised components, particularly ones that play a vital role in keeping your system operating safely and are effectively the bridge between a house fire and no house fire.
Honestly the fact that Linus didn't recognize Cheat Engine is the most surprising part of this video. It's been around for 2 decades at this point and is hands down the most ubiquitous cheat software. It's honestly pretty limited in it's capabilities (at least in my unskilled hands) but I learned a lot about how programs work by experimenting with it when I was a kid. I mean cheat codes used to be a thing literally already in games so using it to give yourself infinite money or ammo in other single player games is perfectly fine imo.
I think there's just always been better alternatives even if they costed $$. Like watch anything about Linus' house, bro does not care if he spends like $400 if it makes his bathroom light automatically turn on (I would too can't blame him)
It's the go-to memory reading software because it helps you figure out the addresses, which you can then use to create your actual bot/software. You don't really cheat per see in cheatengine, though you can do that in singelplayer games. Not really sure how that works with DMA cards though - I will have to tinker with it a bit see how it works. Mapping memory is an interesting endeavor and I don't understand why gaming companies don't put a stop to it, all they need to do is rotate variable names/types of different things ingame and every cheater would be fked. Apply a 500kb patch every day that just modifies the memory space.
I remember back in the day I had a version of cheatengine called "Sexengine". I don't really remember what it was for, but I used it to change some basic values in games.
I really like this kind of content. Yesterday when upgrading the cooler of my 5600, the cpu came off with the cooler (yes, I hot uninstalled it, but my paste was dry af and it got stuck) and I had a couple of bent pins, but after seeing how many stuff Linus managed to salvage in both the CPU and MOBO repair videos, I was very chill and confident the whole time while benting those pins back into shape. My line of thought for the whole time I was doing that was "If PC parts can come back from all that damage, what are even two little bent cpu pins".
@@Novaprospekkt I think being ready for the problem is the best you can do. I was kind of ready for it, but still hoped that it wouldn't happen. But, if you're upgrading, you don't need to care that much about the old cpu, do you?
@MrHill-bq2pk if you want to remove a cooler on the am4 platform you have to rotate the cooler left and right before pulling upwards so you break off that cement thermal paste i have been doing that since am3 era and i had not a single problem with cpus being pulled off the socket
There's 3 sides to every story (sometimes 4). There's your side, their side, the truth, then sometimes whatever the insurance guy made up if he's involved.
I built an old friend a PC that survived a car crash and months in an impound lot in the winter lmao. It survived about another 4-5 years. This video took me back down memory lane of rebuilding it hahah
there have been instances of people using it to cheat in trackmania by slowing down the game to half speed, the replays would then be uploaded at full speed making it impossible to detect without scanning the input file
it can also be used in certain badly designed multiplayer games, it's just a tool for modifying memory values, I've used it to give myself money in red dead online to avoid doing the same mission 15 times to buy a single coat
@@CyanoTex With the amount of times they've talked about modding, the functionality of what CheatEngine does is something Linus should have naturally encountered. A lot of mods straight up are just CheatEngine tables, lol.
@Placki3469what? You need cheat engine to make certain mods for Elden ring to work. I have used Cheat engine for years and never to actually cheat in online games.
I've actually used cheat engine for FoV editing in some games before, you can do a LOT with it, also there's upped difficulty mods for some games that do actually use Cheat Engine as a base.
@Placki3469 I use cheat engine to fix ultrawide aspect on RDR2 for my 32:9 monitor (otherwise all the cutscenes revert to 16:9, which is very frustrating and immersion breaking). Cheat engine is fairly commonly used to modify single player games; think of it more as a modding tool than an actual cheating tool. The name is a bit unfortunate tho
Love seeing these two together. The childhood wonder and joy of their love of tech really shines through. Depending on who Linus is working with, he can come across as kinda overwrought and manic. Love being able to see him in videos where you can tell he's genuinely just having fun without excessively worrying about other stuff.

Is there anyone with a steam account who doesn’t know how to create pointers at this point? Particularly because I know he is familiar with game, Genie and game shark which essentially did the same thing to a smaller degree. Truly funny.
My girlfriend tried to clean my brand new 65inch 4K tv with wipes that destroyed the screen 😂 it’s the thought that counts but that tested me a bit lol
Did the maths for fun, it was a simple physics problem. To calculate the final speed of the pc once it reached the ground i supposed the height of the drop to be 10 meters (i looked online the average height of 3 story buildings is about 10 meters, a bit more or less wouldn’t really affect the final speed). Using the conservation of energy we know that the potential gravitational energy the pc had before the drop is M*G*H, where M is the mass of the pc (not really important you’ll see later), G is 9.81 m/s^2, H is 10m as supposed previously. We know that the kinetic energy of a object in mouvement is 1/2*m*v^2. Using the conservation of energy, M*G*H=1/2*M*G*V^2. We can cancel the mass on both sides so G*H=1/2*G*v^2 so v=sqrt(2G*H). The final speed of the pc once it hit the groind was about 14 m/s, (the assumption i did what that the air friction was negligable). The height assumption also take in consideration the pc being trown up slightly so it reach about the roof of the building at 10 meters before falling to the ground. The acceleration (amount of G the pc experienced when hitting the groind) depend mostly about the time of duration of the impact with the ground. The faster it happen the bigger the G are, but the final speed is more representative about the energy of impact the pc had, it being in joules. If my assumption are correct and neglecting the air friciton the energy of impact was about 98.1 joules. (G*H).
As someone who accidentally pulled a pcie slot out of a motherboard together with the gpu, due to being too lazy to unmount a big cooler that was blocking the unlock lever, those reinforced slots are absolutely not a gimmick. You may not always need it but if you happen to need it, you'll be thankful you got one, especially with the big gpu's these days.
Props to the component's manufacturers for designing parts that would not only work while standing still in a computer, but also allow them to officially include "balcony drop resistance" ratings among the speciffications. I believe his story, I say this because that looks like your typical super expensive riveted Steel Case. You can drop that from 2 stories high onto a flat surface and it hits the ground flat and not on a corner, the insides will explode but the case will simply bounce. To mangle a steel case, requires it to land on an edge or corner from a great height, say 5 stories or higher

Seems like the ground actually cushioned insides quite a bit, while frame took most of the stress and acted as a spring. And that glass panel if it was mounted when PC was thrown is really miracle, but then again, think of it as the phone screen - it can survive drop from low orbit or break when dropping it from table. All about the way it hit the ground.
In the states, in some states, destruction of property whilst in a heated argument constitutes as domestic violence. I know someone who got arrested for throwing a plate of spaghetti against a wall and got half a year.
Now build a full system from the salvaged parts, send it to GN and film with hidden cameras how long it takes him to go from "yeah, typical prebuilt, probably not the worst we've seen this year" to "wait a second..."
Hi Linux, I’d be happy to help with more videos like this one, it was awesome to watch! I’d even gladly throw my PC out of a third-story window and make a video of it if I get a new PC sponsored in return. 😊
Regardless of if he was as innocent as he claims, the fact that his wife threw his pc out the window tells me she was toxic as fuck and he did good on getting out of that relationship
@@rawhide_kobayashi my best guess is he ignored her most of the time, or did do nothing in the house (cleaning or taking out the trash) or if they have a baby/Child he maybe gave an F and she had enough and decided to throw the Pc out, sure it would be still a bad thing but most of the time when a woman throws a computer or video gaming console out of the window/balcony she did it because she thought that's the only way she doesn't get ignored all the time however we also need to say that throwing out a pc is dangerous, if let's say the pc would had hit someone's head, it would be game over .
My wife keeps threatening me that's the first thing that will fly out of the window if I do her wrong is my beloved PC. Realizing that it actually happened to someone got me worried 😐
For the graphics card: I would have tried to straighten out the PCB as much as possible, AND THEN stuck the PCB into a toaster oven to reflow the solder which would have tried to re-establish any connectors. Of course, remove all the heating pads and anything else that could melt. And then try testing it.
These guys would have the right gear to do it correctly, which is a board heater, a hot air gun and a syringe full of flux. Though there's every chance that a BGA ball ripped off at LEAST one of those memory IC's or even the mainboard PCB instead of just shearing the connection between the two. However if you really wanted to try, even that is entirely repairable. The chips themselves are a couple bucks a-piece, and there are plenty of videos of BGA pads being repaired on UA-cam. It just depends on how deep a rabbit hole you wish to go down.
That GPU needs at minimum reballing for both the core and memories. Simply no chance it would work without a lot of effort that it simply is not worth of.
stick just the PCB of the GPU in the oven at 440 degrees (my guess is Sn96 solder), with something to block up the bottom from the rack. You might just get a miracle solder re-flow that saves your bacon! If you spritz it with some water-soluble flux and then wash it with distilled water after the bake, even better.
8:48 : that's how I would fix one of those fans. if it had an odd number of blades or way to many were busted, i would just saw all of them of and make an entirely new set on a 3D printer. no point wasting a good motor!

The ram and cpu was the only thing worth saving. The board and psu is not trust worty id send the nvme back and throw the case and cooler in the trash.
They've been doing that recently.....
Apply a 500kb patch every day that just modifies the memory space.
it was obviously sarcasm he was doing a bit
I remember back in the day I had a version of cheatengine called "Sexengine". I don't really remember what it was for, but I used it to change some basic values in games.
ive been repairing and building Pc's for 35 years and havent heard of Cheat Engine.
My line of thought for the whole time I was doing that was "If PC parts can come back from all that damage, what are even two little bent cpu pins".
this is why I'm scared to upgrade my CPU. the Ryzen 2000 series supposedly has a reputation of doing that regardless of it being hot or cold.
@@Novaprospekkt I think being ready for the problem is the best you can do. I was kind of ready for it, but still hoped that it wouldn't happen. But, if you're upgrading, you don't need to care that much about the old cpu, do you?

FYI: Cheat engine is quite innocuous afaik. I've only used it to enable speed-up in certain singleplayer games, like RPGMaker games.
It can also be used to add money or level up faster on some single player games, it is a very useful tool.
there have been instances of people using it to cheat in trackmania by slowing down the game to half speed, the replays would then be uploaded at full speed making it impossible to detect without scanning the input file
what it does is allow you to modify geame memory
it can also be used in certain badly designed multiplayer games, it's just a tool for modifying memory values, I've used it to give myself money in red dead online to avoid doing the same mission 15 times to buy a single coat

For the graphics card: I would have tried to straighten out the PCB as much as possible, AND THEN stuck the PCB into a toaster oven to reflow the solder which would have tried to re-establish any connectors. Of course, remove all the heating pads and anything else that could melt. And then try testing it.
They have a literal workshop to repair and test GPU. it seems that hes too lazy to do all of that for this video tbh.
