The idea is to enforce it selectively. It doesn't matter if there's no feasible way to enforce it practically, it's just a means to an ends to silence dissenters.
Sadly, I am sure you are absolutely correct…
Yep yep, there'll be this massive backlash; some bureaucrats, patrol officers, lower-level politicians, journos, random victims (wrongful or justifiable) in numerous enough amounts to get big pushback. Policy and enforcement change will occur.. but it _WONT_ be repealed. Too useful. Just add a bit of systemic Streisand, gaslighting, memoryhole, etc.
This is incredible. ]
Yup, it would be like making curse words or cuss words illegal to say. Obviously the government would never be able to enforce that, and they wouldn't, they would allow 99% of people to cuss or curse and nothing would be done to them, it would be ignored....and since the government ignores people breaking the cuss word law......the people stop caring about the laws existence because it is never enforced........UNTIL a political opponent or journalist exposing the government starts to make the government mad, THEN they will use that cuss word law to arrest them. Even though the cuss word law is never enforced, hence the reason the journalist or political opponent even cussed in the first place, because they figured the law was never actually enforced.
These grey area laws that are not mass enforced only serve as tools to give the government ABSOLUTE POWER & CONTROL. It's simple, they make a stupid law that almost EVERYONE will break, but the government doesn't enforce it in mass, so you end up in a situation where EVERYONE is breaking the law but nothing is done about it so people just ignore the law.
This leads to a situation where the government ALWAYS has a bogus stupid reason to arrest ANYONE at ANYTIME, for ANY REASON, all under the guise of that stupid law that everyone breaks but is never enforced. And because that law is never enforced, everyone feels fine breaking it. Which gives the government the power to arrest everyone for breaking that law whenever they want.
These grey area laws or vague & ambigous Laws which are unclear & unspecific, that just seem unenforceable are only there to serve as a TOOL of POWER for the government to be able to arrest people under a bogus reason at anytime because their REAL REASON for wanting to arrest them is ridiculous and bogus too (such as speaking out against the government or being a political opponent). But it is a lot harder to convince the people to vote for allowing th government to arrest people for speaking out against the government or running as a politician against the government. So what the government does is, convince the people to pass laws like these, centered around social justice or social issues. Making the laws so vague & ambiguous that technically EVERYONE could be breaking the law all the time. But the government doesn't actually care about people breaking that law, that law ONLY serves as a TOOL for them to have the ability to charge someone with a crime whenever they want for whatever reason they want, and the official public reason they are arrested will be cited as that bogus vague ambiguous law.
Too few responses like this from people with their eyes open. Which btw means I'm on a team of idiots.

When I reported my house was burgled and ransacked, the police were refusing to attend - until I mentioned the thief had left behind a horrid note ridiculing my house decor, then before I could even end the call, 4 cops and a victim support officer had arrived.
The decor wasn’t white was it? White=bad bad bad bad
Can I report a hate crime from the mid-1980s when I was a student at Stirling University and was told by a Scottish student that she hated the English? It hurt my feelings and I have not been able to eat porridge ever since.
Naw, sorry has to have been after April the first 24
That's strange, because it was around that time I also stopped eating porridge ... Could this be a freaky coincidence or just that I realised it tasted sh*te....🤔
@@lookandlisten5740 Ain't synchronicity an amazing thing?! Porridge isn't the worst of it, mind you. Any time I go to the meat section in my local Tesco I get spooked by the Haggises looking back at me in disdain. It's as if they are saying 'Up yours, you English twat.'

I have a feeling this'll be the least enforced law on earth. Until they have an opponent they want locked up.
there is no such thing as "hate crimes"
there is no such thing as "hate speech"
hate is not a crime, no exception.
only crime is crime.
Yup! If someone brutally murders a black guy solely because he's black, the motivation is rather moot. The issue at hand is that someone callously murdered another individual.
@@Burtocd While this is true, the idea behind this 'hate crime' thing is to prevent forming of ideological groups who then go to war with other groups. Scattered incidents don't necessarily escalate as hard as marches with uniforms, flags and all the other regalia. It's a little bit of a weird concept, and hard to define too.
How is it not a crime?
Hate is an emotion. What other emotions do they plan to criminalize?
so humza is innocent then
Spot on again. Bravo. The politicians responsible for this should be made to clean up their own mess.
Recently my brother got attacked by group of teens (he was their age 17), were been calling police for 3 hrs just get told to politely fuck off. From that day forward I will not contact the police to seek any help since of the sickening situation were in, and will take matter in my own hands.
Sorry about your brother dude.
No , you must say that in addition to being physically assaulted he was also misgendered .
That’ll fix it .
You should have told the cops your brother was LGBT.
God bless the work of your own hands, then.
Is he ok? Police are absolutely useless
It's not actually a hate crime law, but rather a good ol' blasphemy law worthy of the Dark Ages.

It was never about actually enforcing this law ... it's about now having a registered complaint on pretty much anyone and everyone. Now they have an excuse and justification to investigate anyone they want to. Remember the phrase 'show me the man, I'll show you the crime?" .... now they don't even need to look for an actual crime. They've been given it on a silver platter by the gullible public.
Yep, and selective enforcement is a main tool of oppression.
if someone calls the Police.. the public are the ones reporting remember that
That was my thinking. You're now on a register aka watch list
@@MattH-wg7ou yeah. all they need to do now is to have someone file a complaint against you, probably from the people "investigating" you anonymously

This is the irony that proves the whole hate crime thing is useless as it does nothing to help protect public or help reduce crime rates.

Do they have prosecutors in Scotland?
How would they even prosecute such cases?
I don't understand why the police have to investigate every single complaint when they don't bother investigating so many other complaints of undeniable, not debatable, crimes.
"Have they been missing for 24 hrs? No?"
"Oh this guy made a bad tweet, on it right away."
They never intended to investigate any but a token few of the public calls. What they wanted was a vague law that would allow them to basically imprison anybody they choose. They got it. What person on earth hasn't written an email that couldn't be construed as "hate?" This law is here to railroad politically inconvenient citizens.
It's not a 'hate crime' if it is committed against a member of a group who isn't part of a 'protected group'.

Every single sane Scot should file a complaint and completely and utterly swamp the system for decades to come 😂
They aren't checking the queue anyway. They don't need what the public phones in. All they needed was a vague law on the books that could be used to jail ANYBODY. They could give a damn about what the karens call in.
I moved from Scotland to England nearly 30 years ago. I was in a pub watching my football team, Celtic playing Rangers and we were pumping them by half time. It was great, but something indefinable was missing. I went outside for a smoke during the break and a passing car slowed down and a passenger, seeing me wearing the hoops shouted in a Scottish accent, "fuck off ya fenian bastart!" That was it! That's what was missing, and it made my day. Presumably it would be a hate crime now in Scotland. Insanity!!! By the way, the Scottish Government were forced to repeal their stupid Offensive Behaviour at Football Act, so it can happen again if people campaign hard enough.
You've commented on a very important aspect of free speech that is commonly overlooked. The ability to argue and even fight, to vent, to spout off, actually helps people know who they are and who they aren't. It helps keep things from getting violent. It makes people feel better. Please keep spreading the word.
@@LadyIarConnacht You're so right. I can't be doing with the permanently offended twats who try to police "wrongthink". An interviewer once asked Mel Brooks what he said to people who accused him of being offensive. He replied, giving the straight-armed clenched fist gesture, "I say, UP YOURS!" I'm with Mel.
Are you kidding? Repeal a vague open-ended law that allows people to be jailed for their words? THIS IS WHAT THEY'VE BEEN WORKING ON FOR DECADES!!!! They will kill people if necessary to keep this little gem on the books. No wonder we're losing. Most of us are asleep at the wheel.

I've filed 20 complaints on people who do not exist. So much fun.
I would comment some ethnicities as potential real people you imagined, but I would get arrested by the Scottish police.
Be careful, because reporting a fake crime is a criminal offence in itself. You could end up with a criminal record over this. It's better to do what others are doing and report politicians for hate crimes. At least those reports are genuine (or can be argued to be genuine).
You mean Dick Flappino doesn't exist?
He lives next door to Mike Roch.
