I actually love the sound (or lack thereof) of the Gen 2 cars. Sounds exactly how they depicted sci-fi/futuristic cars would be.
I love gen 2 but I actually enjoyed the frantic car change midway in the previous seasons

This formula E season have been super fun to watch, very competitive, with new winners all the time
It's just been especially random because of it being a spec series and having all the atrocious gimmicks.
Better than f1 in that aspect.i'm tired of seeing those Mercedes winning each race.

this is amazing, although the lap looks and sounds super slow, it’s really fast!
Electrics are sneaky quick. I have one. You can get into lots of trouble (read: have lots of fun) with 270 ft-lbs instant torque.

It's not the motor, it's the gears in the transmission and it's tuned by each team.

@@Joe.Howard11 Well Jimmy should know better, everything you hear is straight cut gears, if the motor was run just by itself, you wouldn't hear the bearings over the tire noise alone, it's like trying to hear a computer fan while going 200 kph in an open car.

Formula E has been just so much more entertaining than Formula 1 since they started the Gen 2 cars. There are more interesting and closer races, better strategy, the cars look so much cooler.

personal opinion but i'd prefer the car with a more standard formula style rear wing
I can understand why but the fact that this is the only series that deviates from typical single seater rear wings, I like having the difference. If there were plenty of series with the rear wing design, I'd probably be more inclined to agree. But since it's the only one that has this type of rear wing design, I'm fully on the side of having it with this design of rear wing
@#aritro suprabho i think it has more to do with aero and drag, if u look closely you can see how massive the diffuser is, so they much rather get downforce from the floor than on top wings, it also helps the battery last longer and basically it is more suited to Formula E
It is that way to avoid the huge problem in F1, dirty air. Having so much downforce coming from the diffuser instead of a huge rear wing generates more downforce while reducing the amount of dirty air and allowing the driver chasing the car to chase it closely on cornerrs, promoting corner overtakes, unlike in F1.
@@jorge8596 aero on an F1 car is generated more thru the floor and diffuser than the rear wing
@@jorge8596 F1 cars produce around 70 percent of their downforce from the floor alone. The Formula E diffuser isn't so big for downforce production, it's 100% for aesthetic purposes. The Gen 2 car produces considerably less downforce than the Gen 1 FE car. The bodywork is styled to look the way it does, it has nothing to do with performance.
I'd LOVE to see what the time would be if they used proper soft slick circuit tyres instead of those all-weather street tyres. The time would be at least 10 seconds lower I think, beating the V8 supercar and the old F1 Lotus.
6:03 But that is torque on the engine shaft. The torque on the wheels which determines the acceleration is however multiplied by a given gear ratio. Which means that a lower gear always provides more acceleration unless it leads to wheelspin. It is exactly the same as with the conventional cars.
Could it be equipped with tires more aggressive than, say, all-seasons to see what it can do?

250 kw is peak power in qualifying with 200 kw being nominal for the race except in attack mode or fan boost which gives the drivers 225 kw. Each team outputs different torque levels which are kept trade secret. Se cars run two motors while others run one motor with architectures spanning from SPM(surface and internal) to axial Flux PM and axial x radial PM
Jimmy, any chance you can do a nordschleife lap with the McLaren Senna, in honour of the 25th anniversary of his death?
I really really want to see a similar series like the formula 1 you do with the pole time. But I think it's rather impossible because of the lack of tracks. I know that mods can help with it but I don't think it's more or equal as interesting as the formula 1 series. But the thought counts.!
They use road like tires for rolling resistance. Slicks would halve the battery life. They also last significantly longer, one set per team, per event. The tire they use has improved a lot since gen 1.

I don't care what anyone says, I like the sound of electric race cars. It's tres futuristic.
Now do a F3 car - FE has what, 50-100bhp more but about double the weight, would be an interesting comparison.
FE has far more torque and acceleration.

GP3 cars have around 400hp are on slicks and agressive aero. F3 cars use inline 4s(?) With around 300hp ish and have slicks and aero that the FE doesn't. Would be interesting indeed
The FIA F3 has more horsepower, it's 400 hp vs 335 hp for FE.
@@turnip5465 2L I-4 - 300bhp sounds a little high but there's so many different F3 specs these days it might well be right.
A GP3/(FIA F3 series this year) is going to demolish a FE car though One of the I4 cars would be the one I looked at.
this might sound like a boring video, but maybe it could be worth doing a gt3 car round here? with the vln and 24hr race, theyre probably the most well known and most raced cars that come here in the present day. itd be good to have one of those on the leaderboard as a benchmark for everything else almost

Almost the same time as the V8 Commodore Supercar :o Thats a V8 combustion race car on slick tyre. That's insane. With both series' racing being so exciting, maybe this speed is the sweet spot for wheel to wheel racing.
V8 supercars aren’t the best on technical courses (like this), it made up a-lot of time in the flat out sections. But yea crazy how on all weather tyres it kept up!

I suggest you go sailing if you want to know what wind sounds like.
Since it's on road tyres, to compare it to some road cars, it's between the 2017 Dodge Viper ACR (as tested by Road and Track) and the 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 RS (as tested by Sport Auto)
It's also a little over 7 seconds faster than the 2015 Nissan GTR NISMO (as tested by Nissan in 2013)

I had only heard and seen pics of the newest F1 cars with that Y-bar safety addition, but seeing it from the cockpit: my god that is obnoxious. The goddamn bar is front/center of your line of sight! They've got to go back to the drawing board on this one, but I get it: make it as safe as possible. But when the safety gear becomes intrusive to the driving experience, new ideas need to be considered.

Man I'd like it if Formula E could go to more proper racetracks. I know the old cars would've had battery issues, but I don't think that'd be nearly as much of a problem with the gen 2 advances.

Ironically the REEE sound that everyone complains about is the most mechanical part of the car, i.e. the gearbox

it's slippy because it's on road tyres. they don't change tyres from wet->dry.

Laps are way less chaotic without a loud engine. It’s odd how much engine noise affects the sense of speed.

The motor, inverter and gear box are designed by each team, the rest of the car is spec. Apparently the Nissans use a two motor set up this year.

Yeah that's one of a hundred things I don't like about FE. If they put fatter slick tires on them, they'd have so much grip and be significantly faster.

This ones aren't road tyres. The tyres are Race tyres, optically made like a road Tyre.

But FE cars have to do a full race. Rimac or Nio specs are pointless because they can barely do a lap at full energy use.
