High Rock Bay - Michigan Upper Peninsula Camping Trip

- Zak and Jake take a weekend trip to High Rock Bay, a primitive campground at the tip of the northern peninsula. Although this trip was in early November, the weather was better than expected and we accomplished a lot. All campsites were free and you definitely feel remote here. We did not see the Northern Lights but it is not uncommon to see them here especially during late fall. We did see a large Black Bear as we pulled into the site, but we couldn't take a picture in time. Overall I would go back, and would recommend to someone who doesn't mind roughing it for a couple days.

Nice video of the area!😊
THANK U
Beautiful area, great place to rock hound.
Interesting video. Be there late summer.
Sounds good! Hope you enjoy it.
I'm from Hancock and I have been to the tip of the Keweenaw and never knew that rocket launch site was there. Thanks for sharing.
Next time you are in this area spend some time on the beach looking for LSA's agates and other amazing rocks can be found along the shores here.
Thanks for the tip!
Great video! Look forward to seeing more of the upper Midwest.
Thank you! We have 2 more trips planned before this year comes to an end! We will be going to another Wisconsin campground and back to Copper Harbor!
Any fishing along the way? Great video.
Thanks for watching. We didn’t fish while we were there, but there’s plenty of spots where you would be able to.
WAY cool!
Glad you enjoyed!
@@Outdoor_Movement I've been out there twice. Once was soooooooooooooo long ago, you drove over beaver dams....took 45 mins to go 14 miles...THAT was a ride! But sooooooooooo stunning! Thrilled you got out there too!
@@LadyYoop we absolutely love it out there. I would of loved to see it before it became popularized!
No way we were there that weekend too, that’s my buddys FJ in the rocket range lot. We stayed like 3 more days and the weather was awesome
What are the odds. Were you guys tent camping near the shore?
@@Outdoor_Movement Yeah that was my buddy's. The rest of us showed up later that day. It was sunny and 50s for three more days. Best weather we've had there. We go every fall. Magical place
@@loganclark8880 if we meet again up there…. Stop on by
Thanks for sharing. Road there looks rough but the view is nice. Was the place trashy?
Hey Tony! Unfortunately, the woods behind our campsite was littered with so much toilet paper. If you can get past that aspect, it's a nice area.
@@Outdoor_Movement , I've just found out about this spot and wanted to make it there some day. I've also read reviews of the place and some people stated that it is very trashy as you've stated.. Thanks for the reply.
Beautiful video buddy. Just cares, is there wild animals around those areas?. And do you guys have any sort of protection like rifle/pistol or any type of protection?. Trying to do some camping and overloading exploring. Thanks in advance.
We saw a black bear as we rolled into our site so they’re definitely there. We carry bear spray and I always remain armed when hiking around.
@@Outdoor_Movement WI resident here. What are the MI rules for open carry for out-of-staters? (In WI it's perfectly legal, tho it's recommended that you have a small-game license.) High Rock Bay is my destination for my next trip to the Keweenaw.
@@dexterious006 You can open carry in Michigan, they also have reciprocity with WI CCW licenses. Never heard of the small game thing before.
Be careful of the snow sharks.
There are deer, turkey, bald eagles, coyotes, wolves, black bear, grouse, pine martin, fisher, and many other smaller animals. In my experience they have all run away when they became aware of me. I grew up on the Keweenaw, own property there, and visit often. The best time to visit is from the end of July till early October.
How was the trail to get there?
Hey there, the trail was not as bad as some people claimed it was. It's really the last 2 miles you have to drive with caution on High Rock Bay Rd. You just have to drive slow in some areas and have a decent clearance under your vehicle. I wouldn't take anything that doesn't have 4 wheel drive especially when it's wet.
