- Join me as I slowly make my way up the Wester Upper Peninsula of Michigan while hunting for Lake Superior Agates. Eventually, I make my way North into the Keweenaw Peninsula in search of where to find agates in Michigan.
Everything you see in the thumbnail, I came across at this location - which I am hoping to share with you all soon. (Ongoing project to make that easier)
Among countless agates are pieces of prehnite, an intriguing mineral that is impossible not to come across when rockhounding in the Upper Peninsula.
We also find a giant chunk of shiny copper ore hidden in the dry rocks along with your favorite… spiders.

That's super cool that you scored from a random guy. Something to think about! Our collections are going to outlive us all.
Definitely planning to many of them away to guests and whatnot!
I’ve met so many great folks in 40 years of rock adventures! Hounding, shows, clubs, knap ins… very glad to have found your channel! Looking down is looking up these days!
Thank you, that means a lot!
Love your searches along these Lake Superior beaches to find stones. Have only been to MI once in mid-1960s to visit family. It was long before I knew about anything about agates, jaspers, etc., in these waters/on these beaches. Enjoyed hunting 'with you'! Thanks for sharing.
@joane.landers9151 I can only imagine how much you could find on the beaches in the 1960s! Lots more picked over these days. Glad I could bring you along 🙂
@@ThirdPlanetRocks I'll watch for your videos and 'travel' along with you.
@@joane.landers9151 I love that! Thank you 🙂
Fun to watch, Love to see and hear what the rocks actually are.
Thanks! IDs aren’t always perfect. There’s an infinite amount of variety up by Lake Superior.
Those are some of the most beautiful rocks I have ever seen!😍
Lake Superior is one of the best places to spend a summer weekend! Incredible variety of rocks
Nice find on the copper in matrix rock and the agate. Oh wait a man put down his collection of agates~wow his tradition is unique but understandable. Glad you got some and did what he wanted. I would of had a very hard time returning them to the Lake. Good job on your part 👍Your finds are amazing !
Thank you! The copper will get sliced up for sure. It was such a strange experience throwing them back into the water, then walking further down the beach to find agates lol
Very cool finds
Thank you! 👊
@@ThirdPlanetRocks you’re welcome what part of Michigan beach were you at?
@@coffee19837 This was Lake Superior in the Keweenaw Peninsula. Specifically, the last beach was McLain State Park. It’s awesome!
Looks like an agate to me, nice!
How awesome! What a unreal amount of luck for you! All of us rockhounds wish we had your luck!
Tell me about it! I plan to pass most of my finds along to friends/subscribers too.
One guy can only have so many rocks lol
Wait a minute....! I know that lighthouse!!! So cool!!!
Michigan is paradise if you're into lighthouses!
Good on ya for holding your end of the deal.!
That’s what it’s all about 🙂
Love the catch and release agate movement.....wish more people would take pictures of agates and release them....
Certainly beats catch and cook 😅
Yes, that big red and white one is a quarts ball agate. Beautiful
Yes! Apparently quartz balls are a little unloved by collectors I’m told. But I have to agree with you, they are strikingly beautiful even if there’s less banding and detail to them
It's amazing that the Edipot turned out to be copper. And someone left you a nice present. It's a very lucky day. Nice video.☺
Hey! A little behind on UA-cam comments, work has me busy. Thank you and I’m glad you enjoyed. Lucky day indeed!
I am completely terrified of spiders but still put my Brave face on for the sake of the hunt. 💪 A couple weeks back I was looking through some rocks at the bottom of a dam and saw a beautiful find that was behind a net of webs. My throat tightened and i squinted my eyes so i could barelyyyy see, (thats the brave face lol) then I grabbed it quick, threw it, screamed and flailed my arms everywhere for 30 seconds or so. Until I realize that across the river, 2 fishermen had appeared and one let out a fake scream lmao. All I could say was "my bad. Spider. I'm good" lol 😂
I’ve got a video from Cali where I found a tarantula the size of a softball out in the desert. It was so big and slow that is was almost like a small animal!
Hope you found your rock after the toss & flail 😂
Respect.
It was a memorable day 🙌
Death cleaning, pretty cool.
Yeah he was a nice dude! Scared the life out me though when he ran out to me on a secluded beach
Great video.
Thanks for watching!
This is wild. Swedish death cleaning...
I will need to do some Swedish death cleaning myself. The rock collection continues to expand 😅
Dude, i I was Agate hunting on my favorite creek in south St. Louis county ladt week, and I came to a place where I found about 12 agates that look like they were tumbled; all smalls with a decent nodule that wasn't. STTRRRRANGE!!! They were in an area about 50 square feet. I really don't know what to make of it. They had been there for a while because some had a decent amount of moss on them. I've never found that many in an area that close to each other, so they definitely seemed seeded.
That’s way cool. Sounds like you inherited a whole collection! I found a small pile of lower quality ones like that in Grand Portage. Someone probably hiked the Superior Trail and tossed aside their “maybe” pile haha
Wow that Unakite! Cheers from East Coast, Canada.
Hey! Thanks for checking out the vid - life has me behind on comments.
I think they are agates. Though there may be quartz and other rock, I think those fortification bands = agates. I love that you helped that man. Likely others will delight in finding some of them.
Thank you! I thought it was important to toss them back where he wanted them after he left
Michigan rockhound hotspots: Agate Beach (west side of U.P's Keweenaw Peninsula), Rockport state park (north of Alpena), Sturgeon Point state park (south of Alpena).
Thanks for sharing some good ones. I also like Munising, MI and Black River Harbor by the Porcupine Mountains
A rock hound that was practicing catch and release.
Definitely an agate!
Oh my goodness, I would be in Heaven out there. lol
Sorry, I’ve been away from my channel for a little while - yes, the UP is perfection minus the bugs!
That Swedish man gave you very rare paint agates
The day it rained Lake Superior agates
Agate Dad would know
He knows all! His videos are the gold standard. I just putz around by the lake 😅
@@ThirdPlanetRocksTheo would also know. Same with “Currently rock hounding”(idk his name) haha I can keep listing. I really enjoy them. Glad I found your page. I’m recently trying to learn how to identify the rocks. I struggle. Enjoyed your video.
@SissySmc sorry! UA-cam misses notifications on comments sometimes. Jared @ Currently Rockhounding is one of my favorite channels. He’s a step above anything I can put together in terms of identification and knowledge. Love his channel!
