  • Watch my Son Zach and I go step by step through my Haynes Manual to remove and replace the automatic transmission in my 2005 - 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee WK. Step by step and it should be similar for other vehicles. See the link below of the metal shavings.
    I would really appreciate your smashing that "Applaud" button and leaving a little something if this video helped you. Thanks!

    I've found this Manual to be much more detailed than Haynes.

    Great video... very thorough and I love the father-son team work. You are both very calm and focused as you work through it :)
    I have to replace the rear engine seal in my Commander very soon and I’m thinking to swap the torque converter while I’m in there. I have a subtle rumble sensation that can be felt at idle and when driving. I think the torque converter isn’t spinning perfectly balanced anymore from internal build up and years of use (180k kms), otherwise the transmission still shifts great.
    Does the flex-plate have to be matched to the converter? I haven’t taken that into account before... I’ll have to research a bit.

    So If my transmission on my jeep goes bad do you recommend me to install new transmission or change fluid??

    • @OurSimpleAdventures
      @OurSimpleAdventures  10 місяців тому

      Sorry I didn't see this! Without driving the vehicle it's hard to say. I think I would suggest the cheaper oil change and see what that does.

  • @fortysaginaw1512

    So changing the ATF fluid only worked for two weeks? I am guessing the trans started slipping again. Any vehicle with that many miles (over 150,000) they say its best to not open up the trans pan, and just check the trans oil level. My 2005 has 260,000 miles is slower but still shifts, I don't drive it over 60 mph. The trans fluid is still pink in color. I was thinking about doing a complete trans flush but now I will just drive it and check the level, or buy a new trans. BUT on a 18 year old vehicle? when it is time to do that I will buy another vehicle

    • @OurSimpleAdventures
      @OurSimpleAdventures  Рік тому

      Yeah I knew it was going bad but hoped to extend the life of it. That transmission is notorious for going bad!

    Okay so finally got some time to finish my swap, got the old one out. Having trouble installing the new one. I got a jack and 2x6 under the pan and a jack on the tail end. Seems to me the tail end has to be lower so the trans gets mounted at an angle? We had the torque converter “nipple” lined up with the hole of the fly wheel. Tried pushing the trans forward by hand and pry bar but no luck

    • @OurSimpleAdventures
      @OurSimpleAdventures  3 роки тому

      Yes the tail end needs to be a little lower. Take your time and be patient. Walk away and take a break if you need to. Hopefully you have someone helping you.

    One question out of all this: The dip stick line must be removed to have clearance of freeing the transmission from the torque converter?

    • @OurSimpleAdventures
      @OurSimpleAdventures  4 роки тому +2

      You are correct, it does need to be removed in order to get the transmission out from underneath the vehicle. If I remember right, I believe it is just the one bolt attaching it to the transmission. Thanks for the question! Give us a follow and Subscribe as there will be more!

    In order to separate the trani from the engine after removing all bellhousing bolts and disconnecting all electrical components; when it comes to the flywheel vs torque converter.... what do you need to unbolt in order to be able to move the trani back just a little bit...? I need to change the flex plate (flywheel) only please help

    • @OurSimpleAdventures
      @OurSimpleAdventures  3 роки тому

      Hi. If you watch the video there is a gap at the bottom where you can see the flywheel to converter bolts. You have to turn the motor one bolt at a time. I think there were 6 bolts. Then you should be able to get to the flywheel itself. Let us know how it goes! Please Subscribe and hit that notification bell. Thanks!

    Did u have to change the transmission because the transmission fluid change cause problems?

    • @OurSimpleAdventures
      @OurSimpleAdventures  5 років тому

      No it didn't have anything to do with the fluid. It is the 2nd time I've replaced the transmission. Horrible transmission. What do you mean? Low level or wrong fluid? Give us a follow and Subscribe as there will be more!

    • @OurSimpleAdventures

      It was slipping and grinding and you saw the metal chunks. The fluid had to be changed.

    Hey! How’s it going? How exactly did you know that the trans was garbage? I assume we have the same transmission. The “nag1” Mercedes trans. Any who I got a code P0778 for a pressure shift solenoid, I swapped it out and still not moving. Took the Jeep to the shop and they connected they’re computer and said it was something internal.
