Just want to say Thank You. Your video saved us $10,000 that is what the Dealer wanted to replace the transmission in our 2004 2500 Dodge truck. My husband and I are both 73 years old we were able to follow your video step by step and now the transmission is working again. Thank you kathy
Seriously, I've learned so much from this channel. Never would have I ever thought that I could diagnose and fix my own transmission problems but this week I did just that. Thanks my dude!
Dude, thank you. this totally fixed an issue I've had for 4 years. all the mechanics I've gone to said it was the head. I said no way. You're wonderful. did the same on 2 other vehicles and pretty much the same issues. it fixed them. Single mom of 6 with 3 teen drivers. please keep doing your videos. you're very good at doing it. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!
How can so many people dislike this video? It's an informational video about a specific vehicle. It's to expand your knowledge. If it doesn't pertain to you, why watch it at all? i just finished doing this procedure on my dodge durango. i was hesitant to do it because my my scanner didn't give me any codes telling me anything was wrong, but all the symptoms you described were there, thank you for you detailed video. I'm happy that I did the job myself because had a mechanic quote me a price for $500 parts and labor. and so far I'm $104 in parts. I say so far because i broke one of the bolts, but that least of my worries now that I know that my trans is going to be okay.
This is how a video should be made, straight forward showed you every step easily. Great job!! Having the same issue so im going to what I learned from your video thankyou!!
A neat trick I recently learned from another channel is to use a few cable ties through some of the bolt holes to hold the gasket in place on the pan. Once you have all the other bolts in place cut the cable ties pull them out and put in the final bolts. I guess RTV holds it in place too but it's not always necessary to use RTV.
your channel has educated me greatly, I’m able to communicate w/my mechanic specifically to the serviced needed on my MKIV Supra. Because of you I change the oil, transmission fluid & done other repairs myself. When in doubt or want to learn on a specific topic I always refer to your channel.
I look up videos to repair my truck and bike all the time. You sir, have done the best job I have ever seen! Great video, great explanations, great exactness, and you kept it simple for us garage mechanics. Thank you!
Dude you are a hero. My 1999 Dodge Ram 5.9l would not shift it was showing the exact symptoms as this truck. I bought the solenoid because it was inexpensive and was full of doubt but when I got it in it actually worked it shifts finally props to you man
Thanks for this video. I bought a '97 Dodge Ram 1500 8 cylinder three years ago. (love it, a real workhorse). Just recently, at 100,000 miles the transmission began to slip, but mostly won't go into overdrive. Sometimes it does - sometimes it doesn't. The gas mileage is still the same, though. So, I'm going to get brave and replace the pressure solenoid myself. Listing the tools you used is a big help - I like tools. Thanks again - great job on this video.
Great job on this video. Excellent pin point instructions. Everyone posting repair videos should watch this and learn how a properly done diy repair video should be done. Great job👍👍
Thank you for the information. My car had the same issue of not shifting out of 1st gear. This was years back, and I took it to a professional to be fixed, but thanks for diagnosing one of the potential culprits, which could save others hundreds of dollars. Your videos are getting better and better. Please keep them coming.
Thank you, I was about to sell my Jeep Grand Cherokee for parts as I had this problem. I changed out the components as described in this video and it shifts better than before!
GREAT DETAILED VID!!! I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 with 42RE trans that is failing to shift(or slowly shifts) from 1st after coming to a stop. When trans is cold it shifts normally, but when warmed up it has the shift problem. I have heard from others these two parts(solenoid AND pressure sensor) are the first you should replace and also the trans speed sensor('99 uses only one). Thanks! Mike in LA, Calif, USA
This is absolutely best video on this subject. I've been searching for about an hour and nothing was relevant or explained well at all. Thank you great job
That code just refers that you have a transmission problem, it doesn't specify what it is. Look at the description for that code in the scanner, if it doesn't tell you a specific problem like "pressure too low" or something like that, take it to an auto parts place and have the check engine light checked, they'll give you a full diagnose of the problems
Great job very well done I have a 97 dodge ram 1500 4x4 I need to change the tcc solenoid truck will not stay in high gear any information on video you have on it would be greatly appreciated thank you keep up the good work thanks for sharing
...great instruction, i enjoyed it. Only comment: when you were showing the console after plugging in the monitor, i didn't know what you wanted me to see...a pointer of some kind would help as you explain what to observe. Thank you, good job...and your voice was very clear to understand.
Great info man! I have an issue with my automatic trans having a high rpm on accelerating. It revs around 3k to 4k before shifting. I can also feel there a delayed engagement after pressing the pedal. Should I do the same thing what you did, or is there something else to do? I've never changed the trans fluid but on checking the dip stick, its fairly pink. (driven 140k miles)
Hello! Super video! I’m watching this because I just replaced my water pump in my 2002 dodge ram van 3500. It went smoothly and the van started and ran smoother than it ever has. However my transmission is not shifting into 3rd or 4th. Could I have knocked something loose taking the fan or belt off? Any help would be appreciated.
You are the best yet! Although I do not have the 'hand skills' to work on my own 95 Auto. Pontiac Firebird..I keep finding I need to watch to give ideas to these mechsnics...or they do not solve my issues? Where are u located?
Soul-enoid is exactly what it is if that's what you want it to be called buddy I'm a mechanic myself and you I know actually do a well job and understand the engineering and technicalities of an engine or basic vehicle knowkedge you got a descent soul inside so keep up the good work over there
Simple to the point video! Well put with easy visual and verbal instructions. Felt like a student in mechanic 101 for transmission class. Congrats and have a good one!
Hi my friend, I have a honda accord 95 and it has a bad problem. I can't have reverse when the engine is cold. I need to wait 3 or four minutes. After the engine gets hot, the reverse goes normally any time. What do you think it is? The same like you shown on this video? Thank you. I like so much all your videos.
wow. amazing. looks easy for you to do. my transmission is delay when changing on gear 1 to 2 only when moving fast. but when i'm moving slow, it change gear very smooth from 1 to 2. the rest is fine. gear 3, 4. what do you think is the problem?.
Thanks for giving the torque specs. My almost worthless Chilton's manual neglects pretty much the entire transmission as if it's just extra unneeded metal on a car or truck.
I'm so old school! I still can't get used to electrical parts being submersed in transmission fluid! I worked with electrical parts most of my life and that just goes against all common sense! What were the designers thinking! Btw...thanks for the video...may be helpful in the future. I have a 2002 Dodge truck. Not sure if it's the same, but I now know transmission repair may be a lot cheaper than previously thought!
Many thanks mate for all of your videos, they are beneficial. let talk about my car issue if you don't mind, I just bought a nissan xtrail t30 which has an automatic gearbox issue. the man who i bought the car from said, since my son changed the gearbox oil, the car couldn't move a mm forward or back. from your experience, can you please tell me what i should do. thanks a lot.
Excellent video. Just changed my filter and fluid in my my 97 ram yesterday prior to seeing this. Good to know about the solenoid if that shifting problem arises. Please keep the videos coming. What state are you coming from?
Cool Video. I have the 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with 5.9 Eng and Eng light came on after jumping over a few road bumps, as a result, I got Eng light with 2 code P 1756 and P 0740. So, In search, i saw your video and from start follow what you recommend....... Start the truck with Eng light still on, checked the trans Oil 3 times, it was at the level where it should be, Than i went and shift the gear from P to N then to D after 5 seconds to 1 after 5 seconds to 2,...move the truck little bit each time on that gear and guess what? My Eng light went away! So, Happy. From now on i would go slow on the road bumps. This true, I am not kidding. Eng light went away. Even if in the future i have to go and change it, I would owe it to you for your great Video.
Hey hope your great ! I have a 1998 sentra, I shift into reverse it works perfectly, but when I shift into any of the drives it won't go, but at times it does catches drive, and then it's perfect till I turn the car off. When I turn it back on it does the same again some time I just put it into drive and accelerate really soft and it catches drive and then it runs perfect again, thanks for your help!
Great job! I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee xj 4.0 litre with an automatic transmission. It down shifts poorly only in the 1-2 lowest gear selection. Is that normal? Thanks
I loved your video. Quick advise needed. I have a 2007 Honda Accord 4 cylinder with 5 speed Automatic. Car has 42,000 miles on it. When car is driven on cold day without warming up engine, transmission shifts rough from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 for the first few shifts. If engine is first warmed up for 3 minutes before driving, then transmission shifts much better. I had transmission fluid flushed and changed at Honda dealer. It didn't help. What would cause this rough shifting when transmission fluid is cold?
All of'em but of course there will be some honest ones that'll tell you for an easy fix (if there's an easy fix) "we charge for what we know not for what we do" some mechanics say.
95 % of shops have warranties for there work and also won't open a trans that has 150k never serviced and its a Chrysler transmission the worst trans made it will be back over and over again and everytime the shops making 2 hrs rate of work.. someone like me would be upfront and say we change silinoid and filter and fluid no guarantees of how long you'll keep going because its a high mile trans
Awesome video!!! Tip Top!! I have a 1997 Chevy Silverado and it’s driving me nuts! It will only shift out of first gear after it gets warmed up. It will not shift out of first gear until I drive it for about 20-30 mins then it shifts fine. Please help!
@laneesha Well you're paying for the mechanic, you're paying the shop, you're paying the bosses. you're paying for a guarantee. You do that yourself, you'll screw it up and pay for even triple that amount. Or You can get a backyard mechanic, if you're unlucky, he'll screw it up even more.
that is a great information video. my 2500 is lazy shifting out of third and second gear but not all the time. I am going to try what you suggest. they wanted to put a new trans in my truck. Again THANK YOU
seriously good tip with that epoxy spray idea. why leave a 0.5mm scratch there which could create an annoying leak when you can just spray $0.20 worth of epoxy on there and wait 30 minutes? great tip. never seen it before.
GREAT VIDEO...VERY WELL EXPLAINED...MANY THANX...BUT I HAVE A REALLY QUICK QUESTION FOR YOU....WILL A TRANNY FROM A 01 8CYL. 4.7 DURANGO DO OK IN A 99 8CYL 5.3 DAKOTA SPORT...WILL IT FIT? yOUR RESPONSE WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED...THANX AGAIN.
Good, interesting and very didactic video, I have a dodge ram 2500 year 2004, error scanner 0748, should also change the solenoid or could be another problem.?
Thanks brother I cleaned my solenoid and it worked as well did a dam good job of it with the change in filter exc. It all worked out and I pray that it continues to work... and did it all under an hour... thanks for the intell...
I notice you use the Autel and it seems like a great unit for the money. How do you feel about the Verus Pro? Seems like a great and poweful unit but the price is crazy! They want like 5x more money. More money than a lot of the cars you're working on are worth.
eldom72. Me too... ha ha ha ha... so funny, good thing he didn't edit it out. It goes to show he is just human... forgetting the difference between smell and taste. lol
Took my truck to replace a sensor and they charge me for a transmission rebuilt 2k. After 2 days they called me saying to bring back the truck because they didn't replace the sensor i came for. Even asked me to install a small transmission cooler radiator for $200. My truck broke down 1yr later . I'm not gonna say the Name and locations of Hillsdale Transmission in San Mateo California so they won't be mad and reputation goes bad.
You forgot to mention about the magnet inside of the oil pan you can clearly see it at the minute 4:25 that is very important matter fact you forgot to put it back-other than that is a good video
Thanks a lot bro for taking out your time great video awesome detailed information really appreciate it help save me money. And put more food on the table for my family and help others in need God bless.
Hi, I enjoy watching your videos they have helped me a lot. I have a question and I hope you can help me. I was in a car accident this morning. I was hit from behind and it was a hit a run. I have a 2007 BMW 328i. I only have liability insurance so I have to fix it myself. The car won't start or change gears. The battery cables seem fine. I also checked the fuel boxes and everything looks fine too. Thanks in advance. If anyone else can help me, I would appreciate it.
You don't always need to replace solenoids. Juste replace the defective resistors on the the solenoids or resolder cold solder joints on the flex cable and that's it.
I’m stunned by the amount of access.....I’ve a 92 Dakota 5.2/auto and it’s either a fight, tiny hands needed or drop the exhaust...and not a bunch of access to that
Ok I have a question for you I have the same truck but it's 2wd and lowered. It has a problem where it doesn't want to shift it takes forever to shit when ever it does my question is should I just replace the sensors or replace everything in the kit that you put in the description on Amazon
I'm getting P0731 on my 09 Jeep Wrangler automatic trans. Trans oil is dirty looking. I think I'm gonna change the oil and filter in it this weekend. What are your thoughts?
Would this solenoid affect a trucks ability to drop into a passing gear? My 2001 Ranger shifts smooth, perfect, but I have no passing gear no matter how far I depress the gas pedal. Tx!
Thank you for this video I’m having this exact problem with my car first I thought it was engine problem I have changed almost everything related to ignition still slow so now I know it’s the transmission.
Okay the question that I have is will the kit work for a dodge Durango 2000 4X4. I certainly hope so before it waste the money. Two will this work for code p1757 as well??
I have an 2010 ford focus 2.0 . It shifts 1st- 2nd- and 3rd good but 4th gear does not kick in..i already had it scan and had to replace solenoid c, but it still won't shift to 4th gear. Can u help me figure out this prob?

GREAT VIDEO...VERY WELL EXPLAINED...MANY THANX...BUT I HAVE A REALLY QUICK QUESTION FOR YOU....WILL A TRANNY FROM A 01 8CYL. 4.7 DURANGO DO OK IN A 99 8CYL 5.3 DAKOTA SPORT...WILL IT FIT? yOUR RESPONSE WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED...THANX AGAIN.
Great video! my Taurus is in desperate need of this procedure
I really enjoy your videos, granted i dont have a Dodge but the principles are similar. Thanks
I notice you use the Autel and it seems like a great unit for the money. How do you feel about the Verus Pro? Seems like a great and poweful unit but the price is crazy! They want like 5x more money. More money than a lot of the cars you're working on are worth.
1:37 I almost died 😂😂😂
lol yeah dont do that no more
eldom72 😂😂😂😂😂
I had a friend suggest this as a good test for oil..... he wasn't that bright.
eldom72. Me too... ha ha ha ha... so funny, good thing he didn't edit it out.
It goes to show he is just human... forgetting the difference between smell and taste. lol
Wrong job for taste test huh
Hi brother
Please makr a video about the stucking 3rd gare.
I wanna learn it
That is exactly what mine is not doing, shifting. Thank you soooo much. It looks a bit scary but I think it's doable.
😂 you not gonna say.
which kind of scanner do you recommend me to get a transmission code?
u r awesome man...bro....very helpful to all technician..
Really good description I thought and glad to hear I don't have to do the taste test
Best tutorial I've seen so far thank you
WOW excellent this is what I’m looking for to do in dodge, thanks so much your videos are great
You forgot to mention about the magnet inside of the oil pan you can clearly see it at the minute 4:25 that is very important matter fact you forgot to put it back-other than that is a good video
good catch
Thanks a lot bro for taking out your time great video awesome detailed information really appreciate it help save me money. And put more food on the table for my family and help others in need God bless.
OUTSTANDING job making this video - you are to be congratulated!
2003 automatic 5.7 ram. It drives fine when in Drive, but won't move when put in 1st or 2nd gear. Can that solenoid cause this problem as well?
Love your videos, very informative. Keep up the good work!
Awesome video.... Great info, saved me a WHOLE LOT OF MONEY.
Juste replace the defective resistors on the the solenoids or resolder cold solder joints on the flex cable and that's it.
your awesome man, enjoy and learn from all your videos.
I’m stunned by the amount of access.....I’ve a 92 Dakota 5.2/auto and it’s either a fight, tiny hands needed or drop the exhaust...and not a bunch of access to that
Awesome job, detailed with complete explanation on project.
Ok I have a question for you I have the same truck but it's 2wd and lowered. It has a problem where it doesn't want to shift it takes forever to shit when ever it does my question is should I just replace the sensors or replace everything in the kit that you put in the description on Amazon
Good teacher- u maded it easy to follow -Thank you
Hey man love the added comedy😊
I'm getting P0731 on my 09 Jeep Wrangler automatic trans. Trans oil is dirty looking. I think I'm gonna change the oil and filter in it this weekend. What are your thoughts?
Would this solenoid affect a trucks ability to drop into a passing gear? My 2001 Ranger shifts smooth, perfect, but I have no passing gear no matter how far I depress the gas pedal. Tx!
I guess the solenoid failed caused it was clogged? Great vid
Good job ... can you do a ford excursion limited diesel V8 6.0

You are awesome and now I know how to do what I have to do on my Ram diesel again thank you
