@@TheApexHound do you realise it’s not all pros that have their own swings, most of them have regular stock swing even on drivers e.g. xander, zalatoris, Rose, Varner, bubba….Also Tiger Woods has not got his own swing but has Morikawa’s swing, I don’t know how so far they’ve gotten away with this without any major UA-camr exposing this info.

I’d like to see the course more populated during tournaments, other pros in your group, on adjacent fairways etc. Also playing against AI Pros being missing is odd. Custom swings and legends would be cool too. Strange they had shooter McGavin promoting the game and he’s not in it… would’ve loved that with some funny animations to boot.

I play on Xbox series X and the swing animations need some work. About every 4th or 5th shot, the swing animation lags or is very choppy. So much so that it really affects your timing and cost you a shot almost every time. You pull back and nothing happens and all of the sudden your player animation is at the top of it's back swing... or it never gets there.. or it looks like it's moving at 2 frames per second. You can't just stop and reset you swing either. It happens every time you pull the club back for that particular shot. Also, I agree, the bunker splash shots are BRUTAL. I either try and chip or flop to avoid having to use splash. the timing is just so much different than other short game shots. I feel like it might get buffed at some point so you aren't leaving so many shots in the bunker. more bugs: - some of the clubs won't let you change from default to a different manufacturer - my teeth and eyes came out of my face on the rivalry breakdown after career mode round (creepy)
Lol think it's funny 2k took an extra year to develop this game and still copy and pasted so much from 21, and on top of that couldn't even include the multiplayer features at launch. What a disappointment.. I honestly hope EA destroys this game so these guys can take their next game seriously and make something that shows they listen to the communities feedback.
The rival thing is so cringe lmao . They really beat that crap to death man its embarrassing lol I ended up turning the rival cut scenes off cause it was so bad. Also...... This game was for sure rushed. I'm massively disappointed. I honestly hope EA just slams them into the ground for doing this rushed crap.

I played and platted this in a few days. I bought it for $25 two weeks ago. This is the last 2k sports game I will spend money on. They haven't fixed the game crashing in pvp when another player leaves the match. They took away the cool gear you could get in 2k 21. The character creator has less options than 2k 21. They have added more in your face ways to give them money (which I NEVER have or ever will buy in ANY game). It is disgusting every time I turn the game on is a screen that leads to their scum store. I don't want their coins or season passes/ They got the last $25 they will EVER get from me.
Is anyone Else having a proplem where everytime you pull down the stick to start the swing, it just resets the swing. And I try again and again to just pull down to start the swing and it just stops the swing. It started happening in 2k21 for me a few weeks ago, and I just bought 2k23 tonight and now it’s happening here aswell. Anyone have the same issue?
Did it just played two days early like an idiot. thought I had the jordan shit but I guess I don’t. There is just simply not enough content for this to be a full priced game. and I’m not even saying that as a fan of the golf club or 2K 21 I haven’t even played those games the last golf game I ever purchased was Rory McIlroy PGA 2016. so safe to say I basically had no expectations except for it being better than that which I will admit it is. it’s just so disappointing especially seeing how much effort that they’re putting into career in 2k basketball.
You also can't change your bag which is really weird..... Also I feel like they don't understand what sponsorships even are. You really get next to nothing from them and your forced to jump from sponsor to sponsor???? No dude I want to be playing Ping and be signed by Ping the whole time and not be punished for that!
It's a shame they haven't made many upgrades to the course designer, considering that is what brought many players to this franchise. The graphical upgrades are really nice, but they still have to cater to the users that have supported them all along and made endless amounts of gameplay for free on their own time.
100% agree. I was really disappointed in the course creator. I play the official courses through one season of my career, then after that for years its strictly playing the user created courses. Definitely would not play and own the game if it weren't for the course designer and the courses people make with it. After personally sinking 100's of hours into each course I make, it would have been nice for some new objects or at the very least a way to view courses by designer.
If you switch shafts to the whole set it will reset your whole bag back to default which is awful. And I have having to use none metal shafts on wedges and add real shaft brands and grips
I’m hoping that the EA game ends up being much more complete and has a deeper character development process. As much fun as online can be, the most enjoyable thing for me with golf games is the career progression and 2k didn’t go deep enough in my opinion. I forget which of the old Tiger games it was, but one (or more) of them you would actually get experience in specific skills based on your on course play & could do practice programs between events to improve further. Even if it can eventually make the game unbalanced I enjoy having the ability to grind your character to having nearly all maxed out skills/not having a performance ceiling. It seems like in most modern sports games you can hit that performance ceiling unbelievably fast and then the progression feels very stagnant. Appreciate your honesty review. As others mentioned it shows a lot of integrity on your part since they flew you out to give it a whirl early. Many others would likely feel pressured into saying it was the best game ever.
Man the old tiger games went way deep on career. I remember as you said being able to practice in between rounds to boost attributes. I think that level of detail would make the playability last a long time with this game.
Why is it that no one reviews I feel the most important part of the game, The Online Lobby! HB Studios has been developing this game since 2013 and still has a very weak lobby. I mean, you can only play Pro Mode only with aids on??? What about us players who want a more realistic feel who play Masters and Legend mode with all aids off...The Lobby means nothing. I want to create a game in my difficulty preference and have others choose if they want to join. It's a great way to meet new players who want to play the difficulty you enjoy. Why don't they benchmark older golf game online lobby modes from systems that were no where as powerful as we have today???
I’m extremely upset about the pay to win aspect and all the micro transactions they put into the game, but my biggest gripe about the game is the fact that the clubs no longer have stats and they are purely cosmetic!
If they changed the default graphics setting to Performance without HD rendering this would give players a better initial impression. The choppy and/or delay on the swing animation and power meter is almost non-existent. I like the look of the Quality mode and HD rendering but losing swing accuracy and timing is not worth it IMO.
If you want to change your PW, you have to buy a set of irons that comes with a PW (about 50% don’t). The buggy one is the 5 hybrid, there is only the default one
Considering they're just cosmetic skins, the irons should cover the full range of clubs. I play with a 3 iron and a lot of the iron sets don't have that either.
The inaccurate commentary by the TV announcers is inexcusable. The game has all the data it needs to nail that and still it's comically bad. And it's the thing that all players will notice immediately. I imagine 500 hour players can begin to notice even slight algorithmic physics errors, but someone on their second 18 will notice inaccurate commentary. If it's as bad as the commentary on PGA tour 2010 on the PSP then people will just shut it off. And if you can't shut it off then that's the worst dev mistake imaginable.
There are soooo many issues with this game, I just wanted my money back on day 1 but I may hold out longer to see if anything is going to be fixed in patches. It get's a 10/30 from me.
You're the first person I've heard call out that the pro's custom swings are only for their tee shots (at least, that's what it looks like for most of them). I mean, really? They couldn't make the pro's custom swings for every shot?
Hoping career mode improves with career stats. Every time I go into career stats for my character in 2k21, it has nothing to show. Which makes no sense. Would also be nice if they had all time leader boards in wins/majors so you can compare your character to the greats. Hopefully career mode is vastly improved because it falls way short in 2k21.
Hey Apex! Have you noticed as well that sometimes your swing won't start? I'm experiencing an issue where I'll go to start my backswing and my player glitches and it stops the swing. Super weird

The whole ball sleeve issue is keeping me from buying, since the best thing with this series is playing Society’s (Tgc). No point in that until issue fixed. Guess I’m waiting for a Steam sale or this is fixed! Thx for the honest review!
I had the pitching wedge issue, too. I bought the Titleist T100 irons from the pro shop, and it worked. The Titleist PW showed up and replaced the terrible basic one you start with.
My original plan was to wait for the price drop on Black Friday but regrettably I bought it on the 14th & feel it’s a rip off at full price. There is very little content in the game & that could be forgiven if it was done well but it’s not.
I use the Taylormade irons that are purple in the pro shop and my pitching Wedge is the same as the rest of my irons. Also the game would not let me purchase the clubhouse pass the day it was released which was very weird and confusing.
I've been watching your videos now for at least 6 months and I am getting really enthused about playing the game. To be honest, I haven't had a gaming machine for years but liked the old golf games. Just watching your videos has started a fire inside me and now I am waiting to be able to purchase a PS5 and start playing. Just a couple questions...can anyone join your society and play in the tournaments or do you need to be really good to even play ? How long is the learning curve ? I know everyone is different and depends how much time you spend playing, but it looks like so much fun. Keep up the good work...I enjoy all of your videos
Imagine having two years to fix things and this is the game they sent out. I haven't and probably won't get the new game until there is a discount. And with EA having rights to Augusta and the majors, as long as their product is competent, it will be the preferred game IMO.
I agree about the launch seeming slightly rushed. Spent too much time on marketing and needed more time fine tuning. Really upset they didn't take course creators feedback into consideration. They are the community that keep the game fresh.
Can you change the camera so it doesn’t follow the ball like a flying bird on every shot? Ruins every golf game for me… I want to see the ball flight from the golfers view until it lands

The question with the archetypes is ; can you imagine a course (realistically) that might persuade you to change from "rhythm" archetype to "powerhouse"? Is the difference in accuracy too much between archetypes to warrant changing? If yes then the archetype system becomes redundant or at least needs patching.
I try to balance the strength and weaknesses between archetypes and the club and ball fittings. If my rhythm and timing are good at the time I can handle the control needed for Powerhouse. In career I tend to favor a different archetypes but if the fairways are big enough... I like the options and variety.
Honestly the other archetypes are so weak in comparison there no reason nit to pick rhythm and then fill the gaps with skills and equipment. You can get extra carry and putting boosts pretty early in the game. There isnt even a 1 stroke difference between rhythm and power on any course so far
Game was released in a deplorable state. To be honest with you, I feel for you and other content creators that have no choice but to put time and effort into this disaster.
I understand your prediciment. It must be hard having a franchise that you love underperform, especially when you are a 2k representitve. If anyone want's to know the general concensus on this game, just go look at the steam reviews. Tells you everything you need to know. TLDR: Don't bother buying the game if your not a total addict. 2k23 is essentially a patch on 2k21. Wait and see what EA does.
Yup unless you have money to burn, just play 2k21 until the spring. The really bad news is that the bar is set low for EA to get by with just their rights to Augusta and the majors. So they won't be forced to put out an excellent product.
Hey I was wondering why I can’t get my clubs to swing straight ? I’m using the stick but it never goes straight no matter how I hit it ? It shows the ball with a curve line every shot
I found a bug where if ur doing career mode the outfits for all four days don’t switch when you change it. Also the same issue with my clubs customization, sit there change what clubs I’m using and it just doesn’t change to what I put.
I knew those balls would be trouble when i first heard about it. I'm a long time nba2k player and haven't picked the game up this year because the pay to win has gotten out of hand. Gonna wait for a deep sale on this as well.
Great review ... I saw the same issue with club (iron/wedge) assignments ... I can't actually get my iron set to change to a Wilson set ... it's stuck on one of the 2k sets.
Some wishes I have: 1. A world golf rankings or generic version of world golf rankings in carrer. 2. Add more outfits and cosmetics 3. CPU skill patch: I'm sick of being 1 shot back on the 16th hole in the 2nd to last group and the the CPU goes birdie, albatross, hole in one to close. 4. Matchmaking needs to be fixed. Divioy Derby and TopGolf are unplayable at times.
Turn off all the arcade helps and put it on Legend mode in 2K21 and the chipping and putting is no longer robotic, but is pretty much simulation. I haven't tried 2K23, maybe they should offer a demo of its mechanics? But I'm sure not buying it for a robotic character that represents Tiger Woods. I'm not into celebrity worship. Not even for free.
The animations and swing bugs are horrible. I try to change my players name and the game crashes. I feel I wasted my time and money downloading / trying to play this. This release build seems way too buggy. Anyone experience the same?
Everything you said is true. The character stands too close to the ball as well with the irons, and the swing is like bad. He even hits the ball like hes too close to it too. They need to back the character away from the ball more
To me the game feels lifeless and mechanical. It’s boring playing courses by yourself. I don’t see whats hard about having AI golfers walking the course playing too - every other sports game can handle this. The whole rivalry thing is disconnected and not immersive. I want to a least be able to tee-up with them and go head to head. Also, an interactive caddie would be good, where they give you various options and suggestions. Worked really well in Tiger Woods 2012. Speaking of which, there is nothing significant in this game that TW 2012 didn’t have. I want to see Ryder Cup, Presidents Cup, LIV golf with teams and Majors. Not boring, cookie-cutter, uninspiring PGA courses. And the commentary - it’s like sh***ing a chair. There’s no sense you’re playing a tournament against others. Feels like you’re alone on the course.
In EA TW 2008, in casual play you could do the following: play as pros, play against pros, have a leader board, etc. No need to go into career mode. When you start a career you can use custom courses, play with the pros, etc. Lots of customization ie, have the MetLife Blimp in the game, CBS overlays throughout the game, makes you feel like you are really in the game at a tournament site , PGA 2K23 has none of these features what gives?
Do they have an online career mode only or do they have an offline feature this year aswell. I remember in the last one it was only really online and hardly no features offline. Any response would be appreciated
Idk if i can justify $70+ for the upgrade when i just started playing 2k21 for free. Doesn't seem that much improved, kinda just want it for top golf lol. Probably wait till it goes on sale
Totally agree with everything you said. (And 145% agree on the game-changing aspect of the golf balls). As a casual player who isn't good enough to really compete in Societies, my game is totally centered around the Career Mode. As such, it's the character creator that disappoints me the most. There just aren't enough sliders or setting options for me to create the character I want. I'm more or less stuck with one of the maybe 2 non-horrifying preset characters with extremely minor alterations. For example, I've literally taken phone-pic of close-ups of the Rival (at the end, when it's a face-shot on the score) and could not even come close to replicating them. As a very specific example, the eyebrows on the Rival aren't an option you can pick - all the selections look like someone used a Sharpie. Gameplay and everything else about the *actual* game of golf I think are improved and I am enjoying it. But as a Casual who only wants to make my character look good and get cool stuff, I feel let down by the Character Creator.
Which from 2k is surprising. They have the ability to face scan us so that not being there is already frustrating since this mode is often what makes a Golf game. For the first next gen Golf game it's a let down

The graphics improvements are nice but on a PS4 Pro a lot of the courses have the fan just screaming. They need to have some graphics options you can adjust like 2K21 had.
They took away my beard from the create a player. My player looks identical to myself in 2k21 but in 2k23 it feels like it’s backwards. Not sure why they would remove anything. Would also be cool to see an import player from previous game or a face scan feature.
The wind is still too strong. 12mph is practically nothing. In rl that hardly moves the ball. But yeah the ball thing is wrecking it. I’ve played every one of these since tgc1. First one I’m not buying till that ball shit is gone.
The number by the putter in the upper left corner is the max power of the putter, not green speed. The special balls do not effect the results that much. A flight bonus of +20 only added +2 to my driver carry distance...
As always with this franchise, IT'S ALWAYS a good start 8 years on from the 1st game, surely we should be talking about what's different in PGA2K23. The game is miles behind what's Tiger Woods games had 8 years ago.
I got my PW to change….I think if you have more than 6 irons in the bag then it will not change….I took my 3 and 4 iron out of the mix and changed them to hybrids and got my PW to look just like the rest of my iron set after that…..anyways, the game has a high fun factor. I just do a career and casual play, it’s good to have Tiger back in a game….I really feel like there’s just something missing in 2ks games that I can’t explain….it’s not smooth like EA gaming was or something. The crowd feels less involved on big shots, the announcing seems pasted together word by word like they said “here is a list of words…say them all separately and we will put them together to make sentences” a game from 10 years ago shouldn’t be holding a candle to this game but Tiger 14 does. Why couldn’t they make creating your player more optional with way better detail and way more choices? None of the models look good….it’s almost woke. Every choice is very ugly.

Appreciate your honesty review. As others mentioned it shows a lot of integrity on your part since they flew you out to give it a whirl early. Many others would likely feel pressured into saying it was the best game ever.
Man the old tiger games went way deep on career. I remember as you said being able to practice in between rounds to boost attributes. I think that level of detail would make the playability last a long time with this game.

Why is it that no one reviews I feel the most important part of the game, The Online Lobby! HB Studios has been developing this game since 2013 and still has a very weak lobby. I mean, you can only play Pro Mode only with aids on??? What about us players who want a more realistic feel who play Masters and Legend mode with all aids off...The Lobby means nothing. I want to create a game in my difficulty preference and have others choose if they want to join. It's a great way to meet new players who want to play the difficulty you enjoy. Why don't they benchmark older golf game online lobby modes from systems that were no where as powerful as we have today???

Main reason for me not liking the game is no career mode using the pros! I can’t grind the game using my player! So can’t wait for EA golf game.
I’m extremely upset about the pay to win aspect and all the micro transactions they put into the game, but my biggest gripe about the game is the fact that the clubs no longer have stats and they are purely cosmetic!
If they changed the default graphics setting to Performance without HD rendering this would give players a better initial impression. The choppy and/or delay on the swing animation and power meter is almost non-existent. I like the look of the Quality mode and HD rendering but losing swing accuracy and timing is not worth it IMO.
Does the call actually spin with wedges and out of bunkers and etc., rather than every shot having 5-10ft of roll out on the green?
If you want to change your PW, you have to buy a set of irons that comes with a PW (about 50% don’t). The buggy one is the 5 hybrid, there is only the default one

Considering they're just cosmetic skins, the irons should cover the full range of clubs. I play with a 3 iron and a lot of the iron sets don't have that either.
My 5 hybrid is Ping, or Wilson. Can't remember which is 3 hybrid or 5, but one of the two...
The inaccurate commentary by the TV announcers is inexcusable. The game has all the data it needs to nail that and still it's comically bad. And it's the thing that all players will notice immediately. I imagine 500 hour players can begin to notice even slight algorithmic physics errors, but someone on their second 18 will notice inaccurate commentary. If it's as bad as the commentary on PGA tour 2010 on the PSP then people will just shut it off. And if you can't shut it off then that's the worst dev mistake imaginable.
they kind of dropped the ball it sounds like, disappointing have 250 hours in 2K21 love that game, can't justify dropping 90$ on this game

There are soooo many issues with this game, I just wanted my money back on day 1 but I may hold out longer to see if anything is going to be fixed in patches. It get's a 10/30 from me.
You're the first person I've heard call out that the pro's custom swings are only for their tee shots (at least, that's what it looks like for most of them). I mean, really? They couldn't make the pro's custom swings for every shot?
Posing with the trophies is a massive addition. On 21 you’d win and there’s nothing. Adds more depth to the game.
Have you had issues with your clubs changing after switching them ?
Hoping career mode improves with career stats. Every time I go into career stats for my character in 2k21, it has nothing to show. Which makes no sense.
Would also be nice if they had all time leader boards in wins/majors so you can compare your character to the greats.
Hopefully career mode is vastly improved because it falls way short in 2k21.
Biggest issue for me in career mode is Tiger, I know he is their star but I seem to be competing with him to win every event.
Why is there hardly any apparel to buy for your player in career mode ?

Hey Apex! Have you noticed as well that sometimes your swing won't start? I'm experiencing an issue where I'll go to start my backswing and my player glitches and it stops the swing. Super weird

It’s something they just added, appeared in “graphics” in the game settings whilst playing. Sliding bar for HDR brightness & toggle switch. I was told HDR rendering makes it jumpy, low fps…
The whole ball sleeve issue is keeping me from buying, since the best thing with this series is playing Society’s (Tgc). No point in that until issue fixed. Guess I’m waiting for a Steam sale or this is fixed! Thx for the honest review!

Yes have the set equipped now. G45 full set in in there, and the i525 iron set as well.
The swing timing on pro difficulty is awful. Same swing but one will be very fast then the next very slow makes no sense
I had the pitching wedge issue, too. I bought the Titleist T100 irons from the pro shop, and it worked. The Titleist PW showed up and replaced the terrible basic one you start with.
If I have 2k21 should I get this game or wait for EA PGA Tour 23 this spring?
My original plan was to wait for the price drop on Black Friday but regrettably I bought it on the 14th & feel it’s a rip off at full price.
There is very little content in the game & that could be forgiven if it was done well but it’s not.
I would definitely wait until PGA Tour 23. 2k23 is a pretty much a large patch to 2k21 and is nowhere near worth the full price.

I use the Taylormade irons that are purple in the pro shop and my pitching Wedge is the same as the rest of my irons. Also the game would not let me purchase the clubhouse pass the day it was released which was very weird and confusing.
I've been watching your videos now for at least 6 months and I am getting really enthused about playing the game. To be honest, I haven't had a gaming machine for years but liked the old golf games. Just watching your videos has started a fire inside me and now I am waiting to be able to purchase a PS5 and start playing. Just a couple questions...can anyone join your society and play in the tournaments or do you need to be really good to even play ? How long is the learning curve ? I know everyone is different and depends how much time you spend playing, but it looks like so much fun. Keep up the good work...I enjoy all of your videos
You can learn to be decent at the game in a month or two.

Imagine having two years to fix things and this is the game they sent out. I haven't and probably won't get the new game until there is a discount. And with EA having rights to Augusta and the majors, as long as their product is competent, it will be the preferred game IMO.
I play on PS5. I'm just glad I can still play my friends who have the game on PS4

I agree about the launch seeming slightly rushed. Spent too much time on marketing and needed more time fine tuning. Really upset they didn't take course creators feedback into consideration. They are the community that keep the game fresh.
Career mode being online only in 2021 sucked. Is this offline with career and course designs?
Can you change the camera so it doesn’t follow the ball like a flying bird on every shot? Ruins every golf game for me… I want to see the ball flight from the golfers view until it lands
That would ruin it for me too. Did you find a fix for that? I'm trying to decide which version to get because I want to use it to design my local course for practise purposes.
The question with the archetypes is ; can you imagine a course (realistically) that might persuade you to change from "rhythm" archetype to "powerhouse"? Is the difference in accuracy too much between archetypes to warrant changing? If yes then the archetype system becomes redundant or at least needs patching.
I try to balance the strength and weaknesses between archetypes and the club and ball fittings. If my rhythm and timing are good at the time I can handle the control needed for Powerhouse. In career I tend to favor a different archetypes but if the fairways are big enough... I like the options and variety.
Honestly the other archetypes are so weak in comparison there no reason nit to pick rhythm and then fill the gaps with skills and equipment. You can get extra carry and putting boosts pretty early in the game. There isnt even a 1 stroke difference between rhythm and power on any course so far

Game was released in a deplorable state. To be honest with you, I feel for you and other content creators that have no choice but to put time and effort into this disaster.
As a course designer this video made me sad. Lol I'll still get it down the line but for now I'll play 2k21 a bit longer
Oh - also ... the sun in my game (PS5) is actually a black disc, with sunrays "around" it. It's really weird .. maybe something to do with HDR?

I understand your prediciment. It must be hard having a franchise that you love underperform, especially when you are a 2k representitve. If anyone want's to know the general concensus on this game, just go look at the steam reviews. Tells you everything you need to know.
TLDR: Don't bother buying the game if your not a total addict. 2k23 is essentially a patch on 2k21. Wait and see what EA does.
Yup unless you have money to burn, just play 2k21 until the spring. The really bad news is that the bar is set low for EA to get by with just their rights to Augusta and the majors. So they won't be forced to put out an excellent product.

Hey I was wondering why I can’t get my clubs to swing straight ? I’m using the stick but it never goes straight no matter how I hit it ? It shows the ball with a curve line every shot

I found a bug where if ur doing career mode the outfits for all four days don’t switch when you change it. Also the same issue with my clubs customization, sit there change what clubs I’m using and it just doesn’t change to what I put.

I knew those balls would be trouble when i first heard about it. I'm a long time nba2k player and haven't picked the game up this year because the pay to win has gotten out of hand. Gonna wait for a deep sale on this as well.
Great review ... I saw the same issue with club (iron/wedge) assignments ... I can't actually get my iron set to change to a Wilson set ... it's stuck on one of the 2k sets.
Some wishes I have:
1. A world golf rankings or generic version of world golf rankings in carrer.
2. Add more outfits and cosmetics
3. CPU skill patch: I'm sick of being 1 shot back on the 16th hole in the 2nd to last group and the the CPU goes birdie, albatross, hole in one to close.
4. Matchmaking needs to be fixed. Divioy Derby and TopGolf are unplayable at times.
So the only way to slow the lines down while putting is ball sleeves..?
Loving the gameplay but disappointed in how there’s very little in the item shop! One Nike shirt?? Come on!
Turn off all the arcade helps and put it on Legend mode in 2K21 and the chipping and putting is no longer robotic, but is pretty much simulation. I haven't tried 2K23, maybe they should offer a demo of its mechanics? But I'm sure not buying it for a robotic character that represents Tiger Woods. I'm not into celebrity worship. Not even for free.
Also you can change your pitching wedge under the iron settings, you just have to do it as an individual club instead of apply to set...

The animations and swing bugs are horrible. I try to change my players name and the game crashes. I feel I wasted my time and money downloading / trying to play this. This release build seems way too buggy. Anyone experience the same?

Everything you said is true. The character stands too close to the ball as well with the irons, and the swing is like bad. He even hits the ball like hes too close to it too. They need to back the character away from the ball more

To me the game feels lifeless and mechanical. It’s boring playing courses by yourself. I don’t see whats hard about having AI golfers walking the course playing too - every other sports game can handle this. The whole rivalry thing is disconnected and not immersive. I want to a least be able to tee-up with them and go head to head. Also, an interactive caddie would be good, where they give you various options and suggestions. Worked really well in Tiger Woods 2012. Speaking of which, there is nothing significant in this game that TW 2012 didn’t have. I want to see Ryder Cup, Presidents Cup, LIV golf with teams and Majors. Not boring, cookie-cutter, uninspiring PGA courses. And the commentary - it’s like sh***ing a chair. There’s no sense you’re playing a tournament against others. Feels like you’re alone on the course.
In EA TW 2008, in casual play you could do the following: play as pros, play against pros, have a leader board, etc. No need to go into career mode. When you start a career you can use custom courses, play with the pros, etc. Lots of customization ie, have the MetLife Blimp in the game, CBS overlays throughout the game, makes you feel like you are really in the game at a tournament site , PGA 2K23 has none of these features what gives?

Idk if i can justify $70+ for the upgrade when i just started playing 2k21 for free. Doesn't seem that much improved, kinda just want it for top golf lol. Probably wait till it goes on sale
the ball sleeve thing makes perfect sense. In real life, a Pro V1X will checkup way better than a Top Flite

Totally agree with everything you said. (And 145% agree on the game-changing aspect of the golf balls).
As a casual player who isn't good enough to really compete in Societies, my game is totally centered around the Career Mode. As such, it's the character creator that disappoints me the most. There just aren't enough sliders or setting options for me to create the character I want. I'm more or less stuck with one of the maybe 2 non-horrifying preset characters with extremely minor alterations. For example, I've literally taken phone-pic of close-ups of the Rival (at the end, when it's a face-shot on the score) and could not even come close to replicating them. As a very specific example, the eyebrows on the Rival aren't an option you can pick - all the selections look like someone used a Sharpie.
Gameplay and everything else about the *actual* game of golf I think are improved and I am enjoying it. But as a Casual who only wants to make my character look good and get cool stuff, I feel let down by the Character Creator.
Which from 2k is surprising. They have the ability to face scan us so that not being there is already frustrating since this mode is often what makes a Golf game. For the first next gen Golf game it's a let down

Watching your gameplay, when i miss as fast as you, my miss is 60yds offline lol and i feel my timing changes drastically during the round which is extremely annoying

The graphics improvements are nice but on a PS4 Pro a lot of the courses have the fan just screaming. They need to have some graphics options you can adjust like 2K21 had.
They took away my beard from the create a player. My player looks identical to myself in 2k21 but in 2k23 it feels like it’s backwards. Not sure why they would remove anything. Would also be cool to see an import player from previous game or a face scan feature.
The wind is still too strong. 12mph is practically nothing. In rl that hardly moves the ball. But yeah the ball thing is wrecking it. I’ve played every one of these since tgc1. First one I’m not buying till that ball shit is gone.
The number by the putter in the upper left corner is the max power of the putter, not green speed. The special balls do not effect the results that much. A flight bonus of +20 only added +2 to my driver carry distance...
As always with this franchise, IT'S ALWAYS a good start 8 years on from the 1st game, surely we should be talking about what's different in PGA2K23. The game is miles behind what's Tiger Woods games had 8 years ago.

I got my PW to change….I think if you have more than 6 irons in the bag then it will not change….I took my 3 and 4 iron out of the mix and changed them to hybrids and got my PW to look just like the rest of my iron set after that…..anyways, the game has a high fun factor. I just do a career and casual play, it’s good to have Tiger back in a game….I really feel like there’s just something missing in 2ks games that I can’t explain….it’s not smooth like EA gaming was or something. The crowd feels less involved on big shots, the announcing seems pasted together word by word like they said “here is a list of words…say them all separately and we will put them together to make sentences” a game from 10 years ago shouldn’t be holding a candle to this game but Tiger 14 does. Why couldn’t they make creating your player more optional with way better detail and way more choices? None of the models look good….it’s almost woke. Every choice is very ugly.
