I am very happy with my Timemaster. That, and my tall fescue and clover for my bunnies is all I need.
When ol Dad saw all that oil in the carb ect....he wasn't mad, he was just disappointed. Lol #dadjokes
Does your Dad make house calls lol. Nice job Dad.
You've had some pretty horrendous luck with taking your reel mowers to dealer shops. Good to know your dad had the know-how. Nice to have you back to making videos this season.
Yeah I’m not a fan of dealers for repairs.
Dad to the rescue! 🙌 🤗

I'm probably about as experienced as you with small engines. I bought some new belts for my JD and your tip may have saved me a bad day. Thats outrageous for putting in a new carb. It takes 2 bolts and 10 novice minutes to do it - easier than it seems. The carb I bought OEM from JD was like ~$40.
Tip for future troubles: I found better luck searching for videos/forum posts for the Honda GX engine - which is very common and is used for pressure washers, generators, etc. Lots of good info about it. I learned that the carb hates gas with 10% ethanol mixed in it.
Thanks Andrew! I’ll keep that in mind. I also run ethanol free gas in all my small engines.
I’m on the lookout for a Toro or John Deere. Ready to upgrade from the Swardman
Thoughts on the swardman? Which did you have?
As a guy with a John Deere, I'm looking to upgrade to a Swardman one day. The JD is roughly 100lbs heavier than the Swardman and can feel like you're managing a freight train when making turns on short laps and tight places. I really wish I had a quick adjustment for HOC too. Not gonna lie, I had a little bit of buyers remorse until I made my way through the learning curve.
On the other hand I've heard that the Swardman feels flimsy. What's your experience?
How much did u buy the bail handle?
Jimmy - I also have a leak in my JD220SL transfer wheel tire. I'd like to hear more about where you purchased the tube and the project of installation on the hub & tire. Thanks!
I got the tube from the local JD dealer. They sold me a 3rd party brand tube (Oregon). You can get it from Amazon if you like for the same price. amzn.to/3JdLnU2
Installation sucks. Get a friend to help you. Because the tire and wheel are so small it's kind of a pain. You need to break the seal on the tubeless part, then treat it like a bicycle tire. Get the tire over the rim enough to get the tube in, and the fold the tire back into the rim. Like I said it sucks, but it's doable. Pack some extra patience when you're ready to do it.

Useful video and curious where did you find this mower? On another sort of question are you still using Propeat? Do you have to supplement Iron, as it is not a listed ingredient? I am debating this year of trying PGF complete but really like the homogeneous prills with propeat.
I got this mower from The Pest and Lawn Ginja (ua-cam.com/video/28mFByS06sQ/v-deo.html). He lives near me, and he picked it up used from a local golf course maintenance shop.
I love ProPeat, and still use it, yes. I alternate it with Yard Mastery products which do contain iron. I also have liquid iron products that I apply occasionally if I feel the need to green things up a little more.
Jimmy, check out Steve’s small engine repair channel. He great at breaking down carbs.
Question unrelated to the video haha but what are your thoughts on blending micro clover into a lane to help keep weeds at bay and help the lawn need less water? I also live in Utah and with the continued drought I’m trying to look for other options to reduce the flow so to speak. May just do hydretain but wanted to know about some natural options first 😎
For me personally clover is something I’m not interested in blending into my lawn. A thick, healthy lawn will keep weeds out for the most part. My weed control is also pretty minimal.
I’ve done a couple of videos on how I prepare and water the lawn during summer (within watering restrictions) if you haven’t already seen those. Hydretain works extremely well.
Lots of other options for conservation out there. Up to you really for how you want to approach it.
Hey Jimmy, I just moved up here from Vegas to Spanish Fork. I have a JD 180 SL. Do you mind sharing where you take your mowers to get sharpened?
Hey Alan. Welcome to Utah! Shoot me an email. jimmy@jimmylewismows.com
How'd you find your sharpener guy? I've been reaching out to local golf courses but haven't had any luck. Back lapping just ain't cutting it anymore. It desperately need a grind
I got lucky. The person I bought the mower from bought it from a maintenance shop that offers sharpening services. Some golf courses don't do in house sharpening, so maybe ask them where they have their mowers sharpened if they don't do it on site.
I too was under the impression you had to remove the engine to replace the belts. What is the correct way?
There are 4 small bolts that attach the engine to the mount. If you loosen those, the engine will slide on that mount, allowing you to relieve the tension on the belts and pull them off.
I’ve learned as of recent that John Deere is not a company that you want to buy from. Unless your rich. They are not repair friendly
Going to that John Deer from the GM is going to be a let down. 😎
R&R Products for parts.
It’s too bad the previous owner didn’t take care of that thing. What a waste 👀
