Cut the spring
😂. I was just thinking about you bro, like actually searching on UA-cam and looking for a new upload video. I didn’t find anything, and 4 minutes later here is my brother.
Keep up your amazing great work 🙏🙏
giddyupponyparties if jenna wants to actually hug a cow..or a rabbit or a horse lol
Cut the spring. Heating it up will weaken it
Matt: Jenna we have to mend some fences today.
Jenna: Who did we insult?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
In the olden days, we put a note in their mailbox saying " hey, I got your cows". Then they brought over a six pack, and said thanks. That's how it was back then in the '70's.
I've heard of the Kitten Distribution System, but not the Cow Distribution System.
Fun fact Brandon herrera has lots of cows
Did you mean “Herd”
I dunno, whoever owns those cows is lucky to have a neighbour like Matt who obviously cares for them. Or perhaps the cows knew this and moved!
Yeah, it's called McDonald's

I can confirm Mikey made it to at least early afternoon on Tuesday. Wife and I stopped to take a pic at the Desperado sign and he was pulling into the gate. Stopped, backed up, and came and talked to us, took a pic with us, and then took one of just me and my wife in front of the sign.
Awe. Sweet Mikey. 😊
Mikey for president 😀
"Pheromones" " I know that face" "you like it!" I was dying guys🤣🤣🤣
That slow mo shot of Jenna hugging a cow needs to be made a T-shirt or a poster. That face. Clint must love it.

If you're not going the best route which would be getting a more specific set of springs, I'd go with cutting versus heating. Heating will mess with the hardness of the metal and leave the spring prone to bending/breaking.
@@jorgejiminez-rk1uu never done them but I was told if I did, that you needed too figure out the height you think you need and cut it “long” so there is wiggle room lol
I agree, trying to heat both springs the same is near impossible, just take a coil out of each one and see how it looks.
You don't want to heat springs unless you're set up to re-do the heat treatment on the whole spring. You'll soften the metal and it won't be able to hold as much weight before bending.
Bear in mind that removing coils will make the springs stiffer.
@@Bullwinkle056 bare or bear? 😂😂😉
"Desperado Fencing Co., I just pet the babies!" Jenna cracks me up lol. Between roasting Matt and Mikey, and how excited she was over hugging that cute, she's fantastic
It's so cute the way Jenna plays with her food.

I guess he wants to have goodwill with his neighbor which is a good idea. If they are his neighbor’s cows, he may have been in the habit of letting them roam next door since the property has been literally abandoned for over 20 years. It seems to me that an “old school” neighbor who only has a landline without an answering machine and who is used to not having a neighbor might be someone Matt needs to tread lightly with not play “finders keepers.” Anyway, I understand why Matt is going to make a real effort to reach the guy and ask if they are his cows.
Also some free pets to keep
@@moniumus6303 "Free pets" aren't "free" to keep. They have to be fed.
You were speculating that some farmer/rancher filled in the cave to keep his cattle from falling in… now you’ve gone and opened it back up and have loose cattle showing up.
Really miss Mere, but am also happy that Jenna is in more videos.
Jenna: "not these kinds of burgers". Cameraman: "well I have bad news for you"..... I lost it 🤣🤣🤣
So! Matt! You’re a veterinarian, an abandoned mansion repairman, a demolition guy, a first place burnout champion, an abandoned ranch owner, now…..cattle rancher! What can you not do??!!! 😃😃❤️❤️❤️

Bucket training is the answer.
Get a big round bale in there as soon as ya can. If they get hungry, they're going through that fence!
Maybe try and get a bright collar or something on Quatro to tell the hunters he is a "pet". We have a couple of people around here that have done that
btw its Cuatro
Why though? He isn't a pet, if he does get shot it'll be sad but he is fair game
@@jancovanderwesthuizen8070not fair game cause he’s been hand fed
@MrKamakura77 That's why they tell you not to feed wild animals.
@@tomtom-iu4zs In fact, humans are the wildest animals on this planet, and look what feeding did to them...
Cows and especially calves are easily tricked into thinking a gate is closed even if it is a bit open. Can be tricky getting them in by yourself sometimes, good job!
Heating the spring is an old school trick to lower but will ruin the spring steel and it may break. Cutting the spring will shorten but also make it way stiffer (that may be fine for a burnout rig)
From a South African Brahman cattle farmer… that fence mending was horrendous😂, but yes y’all have to start somewhere😅
Lekker to see a fellow saffer here
no worries, he wants it to hold for the time homie

I’ll definitely be back for the next episode now. lol
Do not torch your springs. Cutting is ok but not perfect. Order the correct HD spring
May as well try it before replacing them since they are probably not usable on any of the other vehicles 🤷♂️
Torch on an in service car is definitely a no no. But this car is for burnouts only. Torch and drop is quick and easy.
When he does the other side it should evenly distribute the weight and will bring it down a little. All the weight is on the other spring
It’s a burnout car that gets used maybe twice a year. It’ll be fine
Remember it is a burnout car. Not like you have to rely on the springs going down the highway.
Jenna is such a great team player. I kinda hope your neighbor didn't loose his cows
Mikeys such a legend, hes been solid.
Almost every heated spring I saw back in the 80's and 90's mini trucking days ended up snapping. So while not ideal because you're removing the flat/flatter seating portion on the end of the spring, it is still better to cut a spring vs heating one if those are your only two options to lower your vehicle.
Give the springs some time to settle before cutting or heating. Though I personally prefer cutting. It's really the same either way, the spring is damaged in the end, but I just feel cutting a coil off is less damaging than heating and letting it collapse. As someone who doesn't understand metallurgy I can say with confidence that metallurgy stuff happens. Probably
In 60% of the time, it works all the time!
Heating should be just fine without damage... if you heat it evenly. But since most of us don't have a forge hanging around a heating with a torch will result in a weaker spring because metal magic.
-source drunkin father in law rants who heat treats steel for a living
That is what I was thinking. Let the springs settle before doing anything. I liked the look with the full height.
If you do decide to cut with a wheel, use a diamond cutting wheel, less heat created.
Agreed
That "little calf" would drag you wherever it wanted lol
You fed them, they're yours now. Ranch law. Seriously though, those are some sweet cows someone has to own them. Jenna feeding the calves, I am totally here for that. The white calf is her bestie now.
a local cabin owner near me had the same scenario with a buck. and someone put a "hunter" orange collar on it and it has survived so far, still comes and goes.
Quatro need some protien. Maybe set up a feeder by the shop with a good mix of corn and protein and Quatro can become Doce.
Couldn't they put some yellow/pink tape on his antlers to try to keep people from shooting him? Or is that just small town thing?
Jenna is adorable! She just loves those aminals.
I miss mere on the videos 😞😞
Probably the reason why he doesn't put her on videos anymore
Matt they make spring compression kits so you don't need to cut the springs. Hope that helps.
YES MORE CAVES
He should call the ranch CCC-ranch, Carrikers Cows & Caves Ranch
We gotta get matt to go to carlsbad caverns and do a vidya on it
Either they are being snuck on your land by the town or county, they need a free Vet, or they are ghost cows awakened from their cave that's being cleared out! Either way it's Mikey's fault.
Isn’t everything his fault?
Maybe that pond that’s a big u shape was a beach at some point. Look for sand tapering into it. Oceanfront ranch!
So, Bucky the buck!!! 😊 Cowgirl Jenna, PRICELESS!!!!
Just remember, he wont be friendly come the rut....
Surely he knows that. He is a veterinarian.

Notification from UA-cam for Matt Carriker? Yup, that's an instant watch.
"not only is she gonna be a good cow, she's gonna be a really good burger one day." shit had me rolling XD
Matt didn't know that "If you build it, they will come!"😂😂😂
Make a small enclosure with a gate connecting to the front of that gate. That ways you can get the loose cattle inside the small one without risking the others
Just like the fencing at a dog park. Double fence the entrance.
“A good way to get new hole” 🤣🤣🤙
As this video dropped with the random cows, I too had random cows in my garden as they broke the fence from their field next to it, luckily, there was another wall and gate so they didn't fully get out :)
OMG, honestly prob one of the funniest videos in a min. “Look, she’s gonna ride Mikey” f**kin DYING 😂😂😂
Basic metallurgy, heating the springs can make them contract but if not don right you may need to re temper the springs or they will be trash, so cutting is better option of those two.
Leave the front high like that then put a drift angle kit on it with some wheel spacers if needed for tire clearance. You’ll have more control in the burnout pit for sure.

🏆✌️😎🍻
we lived in front of a cow pasture in Alabama as a teen. The babies wanted to play but the momma's and the bull did not. Luckily I could run faster than the mommas, after 1 encounter and the owner warning me, I didn't mess with the bull again. Cows are pretty chill if you scratch them. Dogs are better but cows are great outdoor pets, until it is burger time.
22:02 She turns around and laughs at Mikey "You call THAT a bull????"
Babe wake up! There's a new "offtheranch" video
Everytime I tell her that she just rolls over and says something about 'not being in the mood'. Ironic bc I'm ALWAYS in the mood for a new OffTheRanch video!
Finally a video
Always and forever off the ranch
What’s “offtheranch” ??
@@aliengamer97 old channel name
The gasser look is fine. It'll look more aggressive. And it'll make it less likely for you to break something by smacking it on the ground.
I would be very careful heating those springs. Good Luck.
Taller tire in the front could make the gap look smaller while keeping good ground clearance
Put the right spring on the Ranchstang before you cut anything. Thats gonna level it out and it could be the right height without having to do any cutting. Worth a try.
18:34 Matt, you are correct. In the Arkansas Ozarks, it's "bobwahr". One word. 😅
For fixing fences get yourself some hog rings they make mending fences easy.
4:40 Before you do any spring cutting, might I suggest that you give it a spin with the new springs AND video the run with a high-speed camera for review. You may find that the space you have sitting static isn't the space you have doing a burnout run. You have the tools, and the time investment could well be worth the data.
Yup, can't hurt to try🤷🏼♂️
The fact that Matt said "They don't have weapons on their heads" as if a cows head, hoof, entire body isn't a weapon is hysterical!
Yup, cows kill a surprisingly large number of people every year, more than almost any other animal, way more than say, sharks.
Hysterical? Settle down there cowboy!
They have hooves on their heads? lol
Jenna is really cool. She totally joins in with whatever is going on.
Born and raised in Arkansas! Fixed many fences on my grandparents dairy farm. And you might be right about the “bobwire”! 😂😊
Another vote for cutting over torching. Since those are truck springs, they're probably closer to the heavier spring rate you need, and you don't want to mess that up.
Cutting springs is much better than heating springs and make sure you cut off less than you think you need to because it goes quickly you can always take more off but you can't put it back
Hi, I just wanted to say don’t ever stop your videos because they make me laugh and I really enjoy them. Thank you.
@offtheranch you have a massive algal bloom in your watering hole every thought of dying it blue, like they do for fishing lakes will stop all the algae in its tracks.
MATT cut off the spring on one end but make it about 1 coil higher than u want it to sit. Then heat up with acetylene torch ONLY 1 full coil on the end you cut and then push it down flat to meet up with the coil below it. Look at a finished spring end to get the idea so you don’t have the one side poking up and have the spring sitting sideways, feel free to contact me if this didn’t make sense
I'd never seen a Longhorn before. Big boys, they are. I finally understand the details of the long cattle drives that are practically characters in their own right in the Lonesome Dove series of books. Respect for oldtimey cowboys.
Go check out "Doss farms" He has long horns.
Never heat springs matt, it takes the structural integrity out of the the springs since they are heat treated already to get the spring shape, always "cut" if you have to shorten them, start with a 1/4 coil and go from there, hope that helps.
You talking to them like they fully understand you is funny and adorable.
I don't mind the front end of the ranch-tang, but if you lower it I would cut the springs instead of heat them.
Also, looking forward to the cave content.
The best thing would be to get new springs specifically made for the height you want but if you absolutely cannot do that cutting is better than heating. Neither are ideal but heating will weaken the spring and then you'll have to replace it anyway.
They already bought those springs, so... 😂
Lmao men doin all the work while Jenna's bonding with the cow 😂😂😂
Cold cut zip disk cut a but the cool with water to not stress the steel cut in 2 inch amounts and refit to test for height you do not want to heat and let sag because it will just mess up the spring steel.
Off the Ranch Vett Ranch! It's been years since I visit. Glad to see your face again here.
i suggest using spring compression clamps instead of heating or cutting. basically theyre the reverse of the spacers you used before and they arent permanent in case you need the full spring extension in the future
Hey Matt just a little old 'Stang info. No V6 offered then. Inline about 300 cubes and very weak (had one). If the car came with a six back then it would have 4 lugs on each wheel and smaller brake drums. 5 lugs- V8. Your humble Pirate at your service. 🙂🏴☠
" And we might see you tomorrow." 🤣. Love the resort. Can't wait to see it finished.
That slow motion of Jena was freaking awesome. Please put her in front of the camera more. ❤
You should be able to find the right length and rate spring pretty easy Matt. There are calculators for it that are really complicated but I'm sure if you got a hold of summit or one of the big suspension companies they could help you out. You'll have to scale the car but there should be plenty of people out there that can help.
💯 saw the exact moment Jenna reached peak elation when she hugged the baby cow! Luck Jenna!
We've been eating FACTOR since January: They're EXCELLENT. 5 stars, can vouch for goodness.
Definitely need to cut the springs instead of heating them. I used to have a 94 S10 that was lowered and cut the springs in the front. Just go down from the point that the spring ends either a full coil or 1/2 coil for stability. Don't go 1/4 or 3/4 for the same stability reasons of heating them. Love all the videos! ❤❤❤
Air bags. Can adjust the height for loading & drop for burnouts.I've cut springs, they get real bouncy. Heating will compromise the integrity. Plenty room in the bed for a compressor & small tank. Plus the cool factor.
Anyone else over excited for Matt's videos. Been worried someone may have fell in a hole between indy and now 5 days been a hot minute Matt!
Matt and garrett make some nice content
I've done both to springs, don't heat springs. You'll take the spring out of the spring. It will keep lowering over time. Cut would be better for long term. Less damage to the metal. The best thing is to buy the right spring.
@4:47 cut the springs Matt, you can match the cut on each spring and only do a half a coil at a time im guessing you will need 1 to 1 1/4 coils cut out.
If you heat the springs you cannot match it on each side and you take the integrity of the spring away the bounciness and becomes a sloppy ride in the front for the spring.
Cow's and caves! This channel is awesome!
Respect from the UK
4:30 I am really glad your covering this. I feel like this is a PSA, 3" is way better then 5"
Everyone needs a Mikey in their life. Lol. Good job, Matt getting that baby in the fence without loosing anyone. 👍💯
Thank u for al the smiles. You do a soul GOOD!!!
" I just petted the baby!😁" 🤣🤣💀
Just cut half a wrap at a time with a cutting disc until you get the close to the height you want. But plan for about an inch of settle once the springs break in.
You need a what i call an air lock for your cattle pen, first door is an area to let them in there is a 2nd door to the main pasture. Then yku have a space that prevents cows from escaping. Thats what we do in the big daries also called "cattle runs" which is more important when it comes to loading up in a semi
Jena the cow whisperer!
Easy solution: get a buddy to bring over some panels and set up a cattle chute. Lure her into the chute, close the chute gate behind her, then open the gate to the pasture. She'll only have one way to go, then you can close the pasture gate and remove the chute.
Better solution: get a buddy who's a cowboy and knows how to lasso. Have a rodeo.
Or do what he did and it worked out without chutes.
That longhorn was totally saying "Hey, why don't try that stupid trick with me and you'll FAFO"
