I live in a North Denver suburb and grew up in the area. Dacono, Frederick and Firestone, Colorado are all okay cities with excellent views of and access to Long’s Peak and the Rocky Mountains surrounding that mountain. If you don’t mind the commute to Denver, or Boulder and the cities surrounding each, it is affordable and offers reasonable access to them. I’ve known people who lived in Frederick and worked in the south part of Denver, but it would be better to live in these cities, if you either work in the northern parts of the Denver Metro area, or you have an odd work schedule that allows you to miss rush hour. Otherwise your move will only reduce your commute time, if you happen to be used to L.A., Houston, or Atlanta length commutes. Additionally, there are a lot of petroleum industry pipelines and oil wells in the towns and adjacent to them. Which is okay, if you don’t mind that aesthetic, but, if you don’t like the smell, sound and look of petroleum infrastructure, you might want to think about another part of the Denver-Boulder area. I grew up in a working class family in a working class neighborhood, and Frederick in particular has a working class vibe about it. If people who get dirty while they do hard work isn’t your thing, you might like another place. Finally, living in these towns is not like living in Boulder. You are way more likely to see Carhart wearing men and women driving lifted trucks with the fat tires and bumper stickers that say, “Trump 2020,“ or “Drill, Drill, Drill!,” than dudes wearing the latest mountain climbing or cycling clothes driving around in a Subaru or an expensive German automobile with a bicycle or kayak secured to the roof rack. If you are into a Boulder lifestyle (e.g. you have left wing sociopolitical leanings, are into being one of the world’s fitness elite, or are truly a world class nerd with an MA, MS, or PhD tag next to your name and you have a real job where you use your degree in or near Boulder) move closer to Boulder. It’s way more expensive, but you might look at Longmont or Lafayette and you’ll feel more at home.
@@NickJohnson I am, thank you for still creating awesome content during this whole ordeal. I missed the time you came to Toronto, I would’ve shown you around and take you out to lunch or dinner for coming to my hometown.
I’m from Rhode Island and Newport is the last place you want to live in the state unless you have a couple million to spare. The schools are awful, poverty is high, traffic is horrible, tourists are everywhere, and the best beaches are over the bridge in Narragansett. If you wanna live on an island in Rhode Island, go for Jamestown. It’s more affordable, a small community, they go to surrounding magnet schools that are really good and there’s basically no poverty.
Some of suburban of Cincinnati is pretty good like Indian Hill, Hyde Park, Newtown, Mariemont, Anderson, Kenwood. I will feel totally safe if I live in one of the areas listed above.
My dad worked for Schwans in Iowa. They use blue bunny factory to make their ice cream. When they go to clean the machines, he said the employees at BB do take whatever ice cream they scrape from it home (the schwans). Pretty cool setup. Idk if that’s true but it’s what they told him.
Cherokee Gardens is one of the fancier older neighborhoods and quite safe. Some of the houses from the 1930s are palatial. That said, the entire center of gravity of richer Louisville keeps shifting northeast and away from the old city core.

Watched to see what town won in West Virginia. Did you check out Peterstown? It's in Monroe county which is located in southern WV right on the Virginia/West Virginia line. I moved here from Charleston & this place is like heaven compared to Charleston which is like hell on earth.
I live in Franklin and I can say it has grown tremendously and is not really even that small it is actually now like 85,000 residents because it is becoming increasingly urban. Great video btw.

I have a huge debate going on in my life. After having lived outside of America for over 3 decades, I'm thinking about returning. Where to go? Mountains, smallish cities, cheap housing, low crime, & good beer are all important criteria. Vids like this help in the decision making....
I love our West Virginia mountains. This state is beautiful. I moved from Charleston to the country but not too far. I live within an hour from a few cities that have everything. Then I can go back to my little country town of Peterstown & it's peace & quiet.
I was hoping that for Maryland that you would have a specific city. Anywhere but Baltimore is too broad. How about doing at 10 best cities in Maryland. One that I would really enjoy will be the 10 best cities of Delmarva, the Eastern shore of Maryland, Virginia, and the state of Delaware. That area has its own distinct culture to the point where many people think that it should be one state, or two states if you disregard Delaware.
Right, because if the goal was to list places to live that are "not too expensive" and that are "safe" then saying "anywhere but Baltimore" won't work, as the Maryland portion of the DC-Baltimore area has some places that are both quite expensive to live and some areas outside of Baltimore that aren't safe.
It's true that most cities outside of Baltimore are fine. Going South into Prince George's County is not one of my favorites either. Perhaps the cities in Western area near the border with West Virginia could be cheaper.

GREAT stuff!!
Hope you’re staying safe and taking care of yourself thoughout all this Nick.
yes brian. are you?
@@NickJohnson I am, thank you for still creating awesome content during this whole ordeal. I missed the time you came to Toronto, I would’ve shown you around and take you out to lunch or dinner for coming to my hometown.
Nick, you need to drop a album. Your intro themes has been underrated for all them years.
I did it's on iTunes links in the about section :)
@@NickJohnson Yes! Thanks Nick.

It’s more affordable, a small community, they go to surrounding magnet schools that are really good and there’s basically no poverty.
email me i need to do a WHOLE video on RI. And I love newport so :)
Love Newport but not sure I’d wanna live there.
Oh the traffic uhg.
I just can say THANK YOU !! We learn a lot from your documentaries.
Ok! ❤️❤️
Some of suburban of Cincinnati is pretty good like Indian Hill, Hyde Park, Newtown, Mariemont, Anderson, Kenwood. I will feel totally safe if I live in one of the areas listed above.
Another great video Nick, also Sarasota,FL is a place I’ve never been to in Florida infancy let alone the west coast part of state or panhandle.
My dad worked for Schwans in Iowa. They use blue bunny factory to make their ice cream. When they go to clean the machines, he said the employees at BB do take whatever ice cream they scrape from it home (the schwans). Pretty cool setup. Idk if that’s true but it’s what they told him.
Omg I'd be so fat if I worked there
Good to hear from you, Nick. I like your channel.
I like you!!
In Connecticut, there’s a difference between cities and towns. Sorry, Nick. Darien is a town, not a city.
Stamford Baby 😎

It's nice where rich people live who knew
Great video. Great cities change every 2 months.
The one in Kentucky really surprised me. Any place with the word "gardens" in its name are usually really dangerous places.
true
Cherokee Gardens is one of the fancier older neighborhoods and quite safe. Some of the houses from the 1930s are palatial. That said, the entire center of gravity of richer Louisville keeps shifting northeast and away from the old city core.
How did he not choose Lexington, Berea, or Asbury? Lol
Thanks for another great video Nick! My Dad played college basketball with a guy from Lemars Iowa...about 70 years ago. I love seeing Mappy. Why is he always flipping the bird?
cause he's RUDE
Well knock him around a little bit and straighten him out. I do love me happy though.
Darn audio txt... I meant that I do love Mappy even if he is rude.
Please do a "best places for homesteading" video. Thank you.
like living off the land? somewhere warm and isolated.
I’d love that video!
@@NickJohnson Yeah, living off the land, self-sustaining tiny farmstead. Some go extreme and go off-grid, where you don't use municipal power and water.
Missouri is the top off the grid state.
Thank You Nick 😊
The part where you said She could go for some KFC right now and her outfit looked like a chicken and she was huge that took me out im over here rolling on the floor😂😂😂😂 I do not know if you know that you are funny as all out doors 😂😂😂😂PERIODT!!
Tega Cay, SC, is nice. i've been there many times. So is Morrisville, NC. I believe the Raleigh-Durham airport is in that city officially.
Interesting content, as always!
Great videos. Keep up the great work Nick. Love your channel.
I really appreciate your top 10 worst places to live. The way you described them was perfect. You describe no easterners. I burned the roads to get there and I'm very happy.
Watched to see what town won in West Virginia. Did you check out Peterstown? It's in Monroe county which is located in southern WV right on the Virginia/West Virginia line. I moved here from Charleston & this place is like heaven compared to Charleston which is like hell on earth.
I drive for Uber part time in State College. It’s a great town if you don’t mind a little riff raff at 2:00 am on a Saturday
I love working in state college do doordash and instacart part time looking for full-time job so I can move to the area. Love Happy Valley
I heard that State College, PA is nice place to live.
I live in Franklin and I can say it has grown tremendously and is not really even that small it is actually now like 85,000 residents because it is becoming increasingly urban. Great video btw.
Hey Gabe!
wow I live in eastern Louisville, it's actually quite peaceful
I live in Pennsylvania & I think Wexford/Seven Fields is an underrated hidden gem with the livability rate of 89%
It should remain that way. Too many out of staters found my nice quiet town...now it's not so quiet and peaceful anymore.
I lived in Claremont for two years, and then moved to Connecticut, where I worked in Darien for two years.
wow!
Great video Nick. I did learn something and that was about a good place up North. I'm an Arizonian who lives in a small town in N AZ, and it's quaint here, but it's growing here like crazy! I enjoy watching your videos Nick so keep at it 😁. We'll put up with the singing 🤣.
noted.
11:36 I would say Henderson in Southern Nevada instead of Sparks, but that’s just me
Thank you for video ! Very interesting.
Your videos are very interesting. I look forward to each one.
Hi Karen!
Yes we get short shrift again
Try oakland, M.D. it is near deep creek
@@donh5794 I'm from born in Easton Talbot county my boyfriend is from bel air Harford county I did live in laurel for a bit that was close enough to PG county
Hey Nick , I'm from Sudan a country in east Africa , someday when I visit the US I will look for you cuz I like your videos and your voice , personalty 🙂
Okay!
😍😍😍
I'm from New Jersey. Springdale is not a town or city but a section of Cherry Hill. Cherry Hill as a whole isn't bad but the east half of town which includes Springdale is more desirable and expensive.
Ridgefield Connecticut
You sound like Donnie baker and I cracked up the whole video while also learning something. You won me, subbed 🤙
Donnie Baker that guy is the only good part of Bob and Tom
@@NickJohnson I mostly agree lol definitely the best part. Tom Mabe is alright too
I recently and randomly went to Arkansas for vacation. My fiance and I found an awesome town called Eureka Springs, talk about one of the most hidden gems in America... C'mon people go out and check it out for yourself
Yes I agree. Eureka Springs is a hidden gem indeed! Love that town
Good place for live music during the summer, and outdoor activity!
Thus the end of a EUREKA SPRINGS begins. Any residents living there right now..might want to get ready to sell your house ...the hordes of CALIFORNIANS have read COASTER VENTURES comment and are calling their agents.
@@robroux5059 oh man I would be worried about Florida to because ever since I came back I've been telling everybody so if you see Florida man roaming around you can blame coaster venture.. 😆
Fayetteville which is the home of University of Arkansas isn’t bad either. WPS!

Thanks Nick!
Once again I'm from Rhode Island and I can confirm Newport is GORGEOUS!!! Can't afford move there unfortunately but I'm cool with Providence.

14:36 Yeah, 'cause they're trying to not get blown away by another EF5 tornado!
16:54 I'm gonna contest Piano. As nice as it may be (except near downtown is a bit rough), there are far better suburbs in the Dallas area. If you want to stick to larger suburbs, I'd go with either Frisco or Little Elm. There's not a bad spot I know of in either city, and I've covered a lot of ground in both.
Cool thanks!!
I know Nick hates NY with a unique passion, but there are plenty of nice towns like Montauk, Lake Placid, Ithaca, Woodstock, New Paltz, Rhinebeck, Beacon, Nyack, Cold Spring, Greenport,... I could go on and on. Most of these beat the other towns listed in other states in terms of scenery and culture.
I agree Carl I've seen some great smaller towns all over .)
My sister lives in LeMars!!!!!! Can confirm, great place, and the Ice Cream Days are really fun. Her stepdad makes some MEAN barbeque.
I'm from lemars and was not expecting this to be on the list. I think he just saw it it was the ice cream capital of the world and gave it them. Regardless I think it's a great place to live.
Do a video of the 10 best places in each state and one of the ten worse in each state. Also, 10 best college town to retire in.
Nick, there's no Springdale, NJ, its actually Cherry Hill. Springdale is just a section/main road.. I live on the Cherry Hill border, great choice but expensive, keep up the good vids my guy
yes i meant that haha
Can you do best cities to doordash in? Since doordash has became a superpower since the pandemic started. It wouldn't be nice to see a list like that. Uber and all them would be cool too
Umm?
@@NickJohnson you know cities with shortest commutes biggest restaurant strips, average tips, less broke people who dont tip well. Safest cities to drive in.
