The 10 MOST GHETTO CITIES in AMERICA
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 тра 2024
- The ghetto. Such a powerful word in the American language. Just the word can bring up racial tensions and political arguments. The term originally referred to large Jewish neighborhoods in Europe, and then was used to describe large Jewish neighborhoods in New York City here in America.
10. St. Louis, Missouri
The factors which make St. Louis a true ghetto, according to the definition of a ghetto, is the poverty and the crime. St. Louis, as we’ve described before on this channel, is the 5th most violent place in America.
9. Oakland, California
There are large parts of the city where people DO live in poverty. In some neighborhoods - that number is nearly half. It’s also estimated that about 2% of all housing units in Oakland are considered public housing - or projects.
8. Stockton, California
Poverty wise, Stockton isn’t that high - it ranks only in the top 25%. But violence here is terrible. Stockton ranks 10th in America for number of violent crimes per capita.
7. Baltimore, Maryland
Poverty wise, it ain’t pretty here - overall, like in Oakland, there are some high earners here, putting Baltimore only in the top 25% poverty wise. But going back to our original housing projects research, we can see that Baltimore ranks third in the US for number of public housing as a percentage of all housing.
6. Hartford, Connecticut
Hartford may not be a place that you hear of very often. Unless you’re from Connecticut. Then you know Hartford very well. Could Harford be a worse ghetto than Baltimore? Well, if you’re measuring ghetto statistics, than...yes.
5. Cleveland, Ohio
Cleveland isn’t really going to shock anyone by making this list. Ohio’s most infamous city has lost 120,000 people in the last 20 years. Here’s why: It’s the second poorest city in the nation, to start. 35% of people here live in poverty, and Cleveland has the most children that live in poverty in the nation.
4. San Bernardino, California
3. Paterson, New Jersey
Back to the east coast we go again, as we come to Paterson, New Jersey. Now, Paterson is the only city on this list I have never been to. It’s actually a real ghetto according to the definition. Paterson was once home to a Jewish population that numbered 40,000 people - and remember, the original term ‘ghetto’ referred to Jewish neighborhoods.
2. Memphis, Tennessee
Memphis, Tennessee is our second most ghetto city. It’s outright terrible for crime here. It’s the third most violent city in the nation, and also ranks 5th for number of property crimes per capita. And 75% of the city is a minority population.
1. Detroit, Michigan
Of course, many of you probably guessed Detroit would be on top of this list. Michigan’s crown jewel ranks first for poverty, first for violent crimes, and 7th for its minority population, where 90% of its residents minorities.
This channel talks about America, different states, education, travel, geography and what it's like to live in different places in America.

As a black American, all I can do is cry ...the truth really really hurts!
Rejoice because so many of us are doing great. People are products of their decisions. Individuals have to want to do what is right.
I am not a black American, but for what it is worth.... the vast majority of these troubled neighborhoods have one
thing in common..... too many boys growing up without the guidance of a father.... that vacuum is filled by.... you
guessed it.... sadly strange that this issue seldom gets discussion in the media....

Paterson is scary man. I once went there accidentally and my whole demeanor changed while driving through it.
I'm shocked that Gary, Indiana didn't make this list🤣🤣
Home of Michael Jackson. That city did something right ❤
Gary is a ghost town, even downtown is bad.

The term getto comes from the Italian meaning mageeto area of the poor. It was around before the situation in Germany and the Jewish plight.
🚲 The term is also spelled with an 'h'.
The original ghetto was in Venice and was the Jewish area. You can still visit it and it is a very peaceful, quiet area. The synagogue is beautiful.
I thank you for this history lesson. Interesting fact there. Research time. I want to know everything about this
Yeah but those days are long gone. People live and learn. Unlike some.
I went on food tour to the "Jewish Ghetto" in Rome.
As a kid, I saw the first "low-income housing units", built by the city; in my neighborhood. They were attractive two and a half story red brick apartment complexes, with small lawns at each entryway. Each one or two-bedroom unit was equipped with modern appliances ( gas range, refrigerator, and sink), and the bathroom facilities were modest but very adequate. They were great residences for any Responsible tenants. Within a year the ten apartment building complexes were occupied with state-subsidized welfare residences, Who turned these buildings into the near slums they had created elsewhere. Apartments were overrun with roaches, Hallway lighting fixtures were non-functioning or broken, copper piping had been stolen, garbage was dumped out of windows, and the one-time lawns were littered with debris and the occasional abandoned vehicle. Well as the saying goes"There went the neighborhood". Did I mention, nobody but street thugs roamed those apartment streets after dark. You can take some people out of their self-created Ghetto, but You can't take the Ghetto out of some people.
What have you done to resolve any of these issues?
That's what democrats like ,turn off the lights and they will show up .
@@KadiddlehopperClem you have to remove the rats
Sounds like you have bad landlords. The tenants aren't responsible for maintenance. You know that during that 10 years, the carpets should be replaced, new paint, all plumbing fixtures either repaired or replaced, all window fixtures need to be replaced due to normal wear and tear.
If there is garbage, how is that the tenants' fault? Please explain that one.
It's why taking from the happy to give to the ungrateful has never, ever created happiness. The initial cost is small compared to the cost of trying to keep it livable once the residents start destroying it. Of course they don't care about it. They didn't earn it.
💖💖💖 Nick & Mappy & rewatching videos. Talk about A great day😁😁😁
Ghetto is technically another word for slums that's used in other parts of the world.

Even the worst “ghettos” I’ve seen in the USA don’t even come close to what is around worldwide.

I was braised in Baltimore and I absolutely love Baltimore. And yes I said "braised" deliberately... Baltimore is beautiful. When I was homeless I spent hours walking all parts of Baltimore. From its 18th century water front communities like Fells Point and Federal Hill moving north to 19th Century brownstones in Mount Vernon ..to North Ave and Pennsylvania Ave traditionally African American communities that have a history of hosting great American performers in clubs during the Harlem Renaissance..I can go on and on..up to Mondawmin Mall and so many communities like Hampden, Pig Town...etc... All parts North South East and West all having a particular character history Architecture and Personality.. It was a blessing for me to have been braised on those streets which took a boy and made a man.. I miss Baltimore everyday..It is my hope Baltimore will rediscover itself....
for a new generation without losing its Charm. Charm City ..City of white steps - for its famous row homes and the white marble steps off the street to the front door..
So much more..it is a tough place and a beautiful city.. Welcome to Bawlmore Hon!
Every city has its history.. I specialize in historic restoration and have worked in most cities around this country..from New York to Florida..from Baltimore to San Francisco.. Contributing to the restoration and preservation of historic land marks..like the Frederick Douglass Isaac Myers Maritime Museum in Fells Point. I am getting older now.. I truly hope the young generation gets it too.. Each city in this video once thrived with life and energy..it doesn't take too terrible an amount of Common Sense to know that it is Not the way the World is.. It's what we Make it.
Great!
I thought Baltimore was so interesting & beautiful when I was there recently.

Cleveland,a ghost town like detroit, chicago and Pittsburgh after steel production left for recycling in Japan and Korea and others
I lived in Cleveland, Ohio around 1963. I'm glad I wasn't there very long. When I was there, I had a teacher who went psycho because I wouldn't say good morning to her. I think this "ritual" was the verbal equivalent of giving the old goat an apple. This teacher got mad because all of the upper class students were cheering me on out in the hallway since they didn't like her either. The teacher caused such a stink about it, my father had to intervene and give her some "leadership" as he called it. I didn't like Cleveland then and probably wouldn't now. I still remember that teacher's name after all these years. Living in Cleveland did not impress me at all. It might be a peachy city now, but that horrible teacher left it's mark long ago with her name on it.
I love your channel. 👍🙏
You know it’s kinda ghetto in San B when momma Johnson uses the phrase “going down”
Wow don’t go out at night there folks.

Momma Johnson is tough on crime
Being “ghetto” has nothing to do where you come from, your economic status or even how you were raised... you can be poor and still be decent, be honorable in your intentions, have class and integrity. Being “ghetto” is truly a state of mind..
Ascribing the word “ghetto” and relegating it to certain races is wrong as anybody of any racial group has the potential to be “ghetto.”
People have the ability to rise above their circumstances and break the cycle of poverty, drug/familial abuse and crime. First, please STOP killing each other!! Please STOP!
You have to be motivated to change, develop a strong sense of community, have faith in God and education yourself. Change is possible when you have hope...we need it more than ever now.

Yes being ghetto is a lifestyle and frame of mind that is derived from the prevailing customs of the ghetto, but there are a large number of good people living in the ghetto and they are the ones I truly fear for.
Paul NFullerton Exactly. They can get out and rewrite their story.
Brandan Miller The latter group relegated the term “ghetto” on themselves. Now a lot of people have come to see the word “ghetto” as a badge of honor. That is really damn sad as mediocrity should never be the standard.
I am in total agreement with you. You can live in the ghetto but, not have a ghetto mainframe. Like a rose growing up out of the concrete. Bloom where you are.🌹

I live in metro Detroit but I have family who works there and all my grandparents and both my parents were born in the city limits and I can say hearing stories of how it used to be to it's fall while my parents grew up is heartbreaking
So sad
I was born and raised in Detroit known as part of the "Little Italy" neighborhood. My grandmother use to send me door to door to visit the neighbors on two streets in any direction, who showered me with gifts, food, and drink. Only to find out they were all my first and second cousins. My red wagon was filled with the haul, and I went back to my grandmother and said, "I never met such nice neighbors". I was just eight years old at the time and thrilled to bits.

I was waiting for Baltimore to be mentioned on this list. One thing to remember is that a major reason for the poverty and crime in Baltimore is the white flight that happened in so many other places in the United States. Problem is that the bad reputation of crime is something that's constantly brought up but no one wants to do anything about it. Either people are too soft on crime or the jump to the other extreme and are too hard on it and when law enforcement is involved in the drug trade and violence then you have a real problem. Also, you have the problem of people having the catch and release attitude which allows people with a rap sheet longer than a cvs receipt do be right back in the neighborhoods that they were terrorizing in the first place.
White people civilise the world. America, Africa, Britain... They are going to hell for one reason.
The flight of jobs is the number one cause of ghettoization. All of the ghettos are characterized by extremely high rates of unemployment

Dude I live in midtown Memphis. I used to work on Beale as a bartender. I carry everywhere I go. I don’t know what else to do. I have seen a giant beat in, been followed by dudes as I went to my car. My husband was carjacked at gun point. We are so sick of this place, I don’t want to leave my parents though. They live here and are both up there in years. I really value the time with them I have left, so I guess I’m here till they aren’t.
@@ZieSpiralOut my neighbors from Memphis and he retired to Charleston SC and I would certainly recommend it and it’s good for seniors to
@@jeffcook5449 They want to, its complicated because my dad runs a small pimento cheese business out of Memphis. He is doing okay with it, but not enough to change headquarters yet... I just doubt they will too because they have said they wanted to move for a long time, but are still here. and now they have even more reason to not leave. So I just deal with it. Charleston sounds amazing though. I lived in Maine for a year, I would definitely move back. Cheers! glad you made it safely through Memphis!
I went to Memphis in 1997 and could not believe how rundown the city was. They were closing bars and other businesses while I was there. One bar was selling off the furniture and even the bar. It looked like a ghetto to me. I couldn't believe it. There wasn't much left of the city since most everything was boarded up or closed. Even the taxi's weren't running so I had to walk everywhere in bad neighborhoods. It might be better now, but it was scary then.
Just in Dallas Texas area, due to their high crime rates, South Boulevard-Park Row, Cedar Crest, South Dallas, Convention Center District, Cockrell Hill, Northwest Dallas, and Wolf Creek are few more you can add to your list.
I'm not surprised about most of these. Maybe next time can you list 20 ghettos. Thanks.
