Hey!!! Peabody is my hometown!!! Thanks for the shoutout! I lived in southern Maine for my adult life, though. But Peabody really was a great city to grow up in! And only 20-30 min to Boston depending on traffic, also close to the commuter train in Salem next door or the subway 15 minutes away in Revere.
I really don't get the attraction of those cities in Nevada or Arizona, near identical houses all jammed right up against each other, all you can see for miles.
From CT originally. Middletown IS one of the most under appreciated small cities in the northeast. Most residents are a nice mix of professionals and workers, with some artsy types who give it a fun vibe, and the Main Street-centered downtown is really well preserved and filled with restaurants and shops, and the nearby neighborhoods are very walkable. It’s halfway between NYC and Boston, and Hartford and New Haven aren’t far away. The city does need better and newer housing stock, especially town homes and condos, and the gateways into town are strip-mall ugly and needs better daily offerings like a Trader Joe’s and Target, but it’s really quite a great place overall.
Daphne is a pretty cool little town. It's very close to Pensacola, Orange Beach, and Gulf Shores, and not far from Mobile. Biloxi is an easy day trip. The town has a good mix of old and new. Lots of stores have moved in recently. It's nice.
I actually live in Daphne, and I don't know when the last time you went there was, but it's not this nice anymore. Prices are continuously going up, traffic is getting continuously worse, and it's all because everybody from out of state is flocking here in hordes causing everything to get messed up. Kind of wish people would just stay where they are.
I live in the Albany, NY suburbs and it is fantastic. Hiking and nature, great universities, decent housing prices, 2.5 hours to both NYC and Boston. What’s not to love?
Blue state politics. I can hike anywhere and nobody cares about NYC or Boston anymore since they destroyed their cities with lockdowns and mandates so that proximity does nothing. The way tje world is right now the only thing anybody should care about is being as far away from leftist authoritarians as possible.
@@jamescash887 believe me, NY taxes and politics do suck. I am a public sector worker. I am getting my pension and leaving that much is certain. Take the best parts and go!
I lived near both State College and Dunedin. Both are nice, also getting more and more expensive. Bellefonte is an adorable little Victorian town just 8 miles from State College, and Tarpon Springs is a lot more pretty and quaint than the crowded Clearwater/Dunedin areas.

Wow I wasn’t expecting Blacksburg! I live and work there and it’s definitely a fun place to live and incredibly peaceful during the summer when students leave lol
In a state like Washington, you’ll have a lot of far left people around the Seattle area, but in the eastern half outside of Spokane, you have a lot of people just a step up from being KKK members
People will be extremely shocked to find any cities in Commiefornia on such a list! But they're there. I was a lifelong Californian until we escaped to America. Go north, and you'll think you're in either Nebraska or Montana. My pick is somewhere in Modoc County, which has always blown off the Fascist C19 mandates of Gov. Gruesome and is therefore the healthiest place in the state.
I honestly had never heard of Independence, Kentucky until this video, and I'm from this state. Living in the Lexington area is pretty affordable, especially compared to other parts of the country.
I'm surprised to see Lafayette, Louisiana on this list, lol. It's start to get lil better out here. I thought Youngville would've take that. Also, I had been out for awhile, Nick. When you got time. There's a chance you can make a video about which states taxes is the lowest? Thank you, Nick!
Lafayette is plagued with problems. Change is slow and fought every step of the way. They still can`t ( or won`t ) figure out how to get I-49 through the city. It took them 30 years to build a bridge, and then when they did build it, it was only because of a new upscale neighborhood. They build new upscale parks and repair roads in the well-to-do areas. Some roads are barely passable but the ones that are fixed are just in the newer upscale areas. That is how it was done in the past. There is even a saying about change ; " Don`t rock the boat, or you will end up gator bait !!"
HA! Peabody… I grew up there. The fact that you said it correctly is staggering since most people outside MA say it totally wrong. (I still think you should have done a video of downtown Lynn at night…)

And there are a lot more things to do in the Madison area besides what is in Madison. The Wisconsin Dells is a great place, Baraboo has the Great Circus Museum and they have actual circus performances every day, just west of Madison is the awesome beautiful driftless area of Wisconsin and also a very interesting house and museum called "The House on the Rock". New Glarus has an annual Heidi Festival (because it is predominantly Swiss), even the far north of Wisconsin has the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore (which is so beautiful, especially in the winter when you can actually walk on Lake Superior and see the ice caves) and the Richard Bong historical sights (he was America's highest scoring ave of WWII). The north east is awesome too. And despite the crime Milwaukee does have a lot of great things to do (just stay out of the wrong areas, especially at night). Summerfest, State Fair, many ethnic celebrations, (La Crosse on the Mississippi River on the northwest side of the state is supposed to have the best Octoberfest, and also one of the largest populations of Bald Eagles in the contiguous 48 states). Oshkosh has the Experimental Aircraft Association and their museum and annual Airventure where hundreds of aircraft of all different types can be seen. And Wisconsin has some of the best county fairs to be found, including Walworth County Fair in Elkhorn which is held every Labor day week (unless highjacked by covid). But the best is in the area of Green Bay! Not oy are the Packers and Lambeau Field with all there is to do there up there, but they have the Old Fort Howard historical sight and a huge train museum. And then there is totally awesome Door County! If you visit Door County, you will most likely fall in love with it!
Sometimes I do joke about moving to WV. I freelance, so I just need internet, and the Appalachians are gorgeous, and even the old mining towns have charm, and an older couple would probably adopt me and I'd be the town's little helper. Yes, I'm romanticizing, and ignoring all the effects poverty has on such regions.
I live in WV and commented above as well. I am a DC city girl native and have lived in multiple states. I am here to stay. Super cheap, great folks and gorgeous mountain views, lakes and waterfalls. :)
Boulder City, NV. is a much better choice than Henderson if you want low crime and good schools in Southern Nevada. This small town of 16,000 people is only 20-30 minutes from Vegas and we're away from all the riff-raft. We have a good well funded local government due to our massive solar leases in the Eldorado Valley. Since we're next to Lake Mead and Hoover Dam we get discounted power from local hydroelectricity. One could find a nice house here within the housing price quotes in this video.
no argument against Blacksburg, Virginia, home of the excellent Virginia Tech, but you might as well consider Roanoke and environs fairly nearby. I note Waynesboro, VA, is well below most of the housing averages you mention, (if your house is over 300K the next question is 'how many acres?') in a tourism zone and is less than an hour away from 4 college towns Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Staunton, Lexington. While real estate is more expensive in those towns, Harrisonburg is known as a diverse city that can't miss economically IMO in that it is home of the rapidly growing JMU James Madison University, and close enough to Northern Virginia that it's just a matter of time. I don't understand you dissing Northern Virginia, one of the most diverse best-educated populations in the country, beyond it's expensive and not very Southern. I also think the South as a whole is being 'protected' by generally bad attitudes towards Southerners that come from what I call a Comic-book view of history (massive stereotyping from a lot of people who think of themselves as woke or PC). From my experience most Southerners are very polite, friendly yet fairly straightforward, honest and hardworking, which makes for a good economic environment. There are increasing numbers of college graduates and relocaters and a lot of the people who aren't particularly well educated have skills, can work with their hands, machinery, farm etc.
Your friends in Roanoke probably got lost driving and are still trying to get back to the main road. Roanoke has the most confusing, badly laid-out streets anywhere.

Very good list as a traveler! For Illinois, check out Western Springs and or LaGrange. Park Ridge is in direct flight paths into o'hare. WS and LG are between O'Hare and Midway, very reasonably priced homes and very safe neighborhoods.
I agree with your LaGrange or Western Springs call, if you want to be in Cook county. I grew up in PR and it was a tad loud. If I still lived in Chicagoland, I would live in McHenry County. That’s my view though.
No one caught on that we're missing NC? My vote is for something near Wilmington or Carolina Beach. As an Iowa native, I'd have gone with something like Cedar Falls, since it's cheaper than Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, and has a lot more to do. Low crime and low housing costs too. Thanks for all the effort put into this, it's awesome!
Sahuarita prices are skyrocketing. I moved here a few years ago and most new build houses were going for 225k ish. Now, like you said, it's up over 300k, just four years later.
Wasn't expecting to hear Park Ridge mentioned. I grew up there and it was a great place to live minus the constant passing of planes overhead (it's within the vicinity of O'Hare Airport). The uptown and downtown areas are super chill though. I'm glad to have gotten out of Illinois but I still have a soft spot for PR.
So crazy seeing a street I drove down daily for 20 years in this video. Grew up in O'Fallon, MO. Suburbia hell. On paper a good place to raise a family though.
You can't even buy a house in Wake County right now outside of maybe eastern Wake. Way to many people moving in with way to many people coming in above asking price. Expect a bidding war whether it's Fuquay-Varina, Apex, Cary, or Raleigh, or Morrisville.

I loved in upstate yes back. It's nice but there's no money up there.
@@dynodyno6970 if you live in the middle of one of upstates larger cities you're probably right
Hi Nick! Great Video 👌
Very interesting I thought you might go through only a couple of States! And that was
Awesome that you got to cover each and everyone of them individually! Thanks Nick! For helping so many people who are most interested in moving elsewhere!
Ok!
Nick dumb question have you done one on disabled people where it is cheap, disabled friendly, size, temp, homes, transportation
I grew up in Windsor, CO. It isn't cheap by any means to live there anymore. I remember when it was a 1 stop light town surrounded by agriculture.
Minnesota lifer here, Plymouth is a very expensive souless yuppy hellscape. I'd recommend South St Paul, Inver Grove heights, Falcon Heights if you want city life. If you're ok with smaller city life consider: Fairmont, Mankato, St Peter & Owatonna. The area around Bemidji is good if you want hunting & fishing
Born in Mankato, Mom from Fairmont.
About to move back to Minneapolis from Portland, Maine. I am excited to be back in MN!
And running out of water
Basically no land just shoved in a neighborhood.
Many of us live in wide open desert areas. Miles of peace and quiet.
Leaving Phoenix in a few years, too hot & snooty, need a small town!
I love Fairhope, but Daphne is pretty cool too.
I live in the Albany, NY suburbs and it is fantastic. Hiking and nature, great universities, decent housing prices, 2.5 hours to both NYC and Boston. What’s not to love?
Yup this guy is a just has some kind of strange hatred for upstate NY that I really just don't understand.
The Governor and the politics. Didnt the Gov just decriminalize shooting up in public? What about the taxes and mandates? Plenty not to love
Sounds nice but it’s NY. Taxes and politics suck. If you actually had somewhat sane politicians I could buy in.
Did you really say “nappy” @18:23 instead of “mappy” for the other animation? I thought that’s what I heard and the closed captioning seems to confirm it. Really?
Lol I thought so too
When I worked for an insurance Co many years ago I was surprised how they pronounced Peabody, when I had to call their home office, especially since my dog's name was also Peabody and we pronounced it the usual way (well to us anyway). Great video!
Wow I wasn’t expecting Blacksburg! I live and work there and it’s definitely a fun place to live and incredibly peaceful during the summer when students leave lol
Agree!
I lived in Corvallis for 2 years for work. Beautiful place. I lived in State College too, but stay away. That place is backwood…
Loving your new graphics, Nick!! Excellent video as always!
Haha thanks! ❤️
You should do most liberal and conservative town in each state
Ok!
In a state like Washington, you’ll have a lot of far left people around the Seattle area, but in the eastern half outside of Spokane, you have a lot of people just a step up from being KKK members
Boring
People will be extremely shocked to find any cities in Commiefornia on such a list! But they're there. I was a lifelong Californian until we escaped to America. Go north, and you'll think you're in either Nebraska or Montana. My pick is somewhere in Modoc County, which has always blown off the Fascist C19 mandates of Gov. Gruesome and is therefore the healthiest place in the state.

Great video, very informative. Looking forward to more 2022 videos! Thanks Nick!
I honestly had never heard of Independence, Kentucky until this video, and I'm from this state. Living in the Lexington area is pretty affordable, especially compared to other parts of the country.
Independence is great because you are close to Cincinnati. Plus you have a great airport when you want to get away.
Tell me about Lexington?
@@DesertDweller74 what would you like to know? I'd be glad to tell you what I can about Lexington.
I’ve been watching your videos for a long time. I love them . Lol
Hey van ❤️
I'm surprised to see Lafayette, Louisiana on this list, lol. It's start to get lil better out here. I thought Youngville would've take that. Also, I had been out for awhile, Nick. When you got time. There's a chance you can make a video about which states taxes is the lowest? Thank you, Nick!
Louisiana is slow and corny. Don't come to Florida
@@lividnine699 I already been to Florida, lol.

HA! Peabody… I grew up there. The fact that you said it correctly is staggering since most people outside MA say it totally wrong. (I still think you should have done a video of downtown Lynn at night…)
Nick Johnson…YOU are the ultimate! Calling you soon to set up a consult.
Thank you a lot my friend, your tips really always help, GOD Bless you
I would agree with the Illinois pick, Park Ridge. It’s unassuming and yet desirable enough with city amenities.
The humidity in Lafayette, LA is terrible.
Since you mentioned Sheridan, Wyoming, I checked the like button! I lived there years ago and loved it! People there are friendly!

Lived in Corvallis, OR for 5 years after living in Happy Valley, OR my whole life. I loved being out of the way of the Portland and Eugene mess, but being able to drive there to do things when I wanted. Great recommendation, Nick!
Yes but it and all the areas surrounding there are now too expensive for the average jo...sadly most of the state is
The whole state has gotten very expensive, even areas that shouldn’t be.
Used to live in Holly Springs NC, Fuquay-Varina NC, and went to school in Harnett County. It was a good place to grow up 20-15 years ago. I'm sure it's changed so much since I left it.
It has. Very expensive
Wisconsin is a great state! Email me maybe I can interview you about it. NickJohnsonNC18@gmail
wow, Spot on, thanks for the research
Sometimes I do joke about moving to WV. I freelance, so I just need internet, and the Appalachians are gorgeous, and even the old mining towns have charm, and an older couple would probably adopt me and I'd be the town's little helper. Yes, I'm romanticizing, and ignoring all the effects poverty has on such regions.
I live in WV and commented above as well. I am a DC city girl native and have lived in multiple states. I am here to stay. Super cheap, great folks and gorgeous mountain views, lakes and waterfalls. :)
But, what about finding a job? It's hard, right?
Boulder City, NV. is a much better choice than Henderson if you want low crime and good schools in Southern Nevada. This small town of 16,000 people is only 20-30 minutes from Vegas and we're away from all the riff-raft. We have a good well funded local government due to our massive solar leases in the Eldorado Valley. Since we're next to Lake Mead and Hoover Dam we get discounted power from local hydroelectricity. One could find a nice house here within the housing price quotes in this video.
I will never be able to have a house ever again
Aww why? 🏡
Great info
no argument against Blacksburg, Virginia, home of the excellent Virginia Tech, but you might as well consider Roanoke and environs fairly nearby.
You need a channel!
Waynesboro has issues.
Some friends of mine moved to Roanoke. They disappeared and were never seen again.
Your friends in Roanoke probably got lost driving and are still trying to get back to the main road. Roanoke has the most confusing, badly laid-out streets anywhere.
Wow Middletown, CT I wasn’t expecting that!

Nick! Bellbrook, OH does have GREAT schools. I used to reside there and my son graduated from Bellbrook HS. But, dude... that place is the most hostile place I have ever been for single adults. Property taxes are soooooooooo painful it brings tears to your eyes.
Building in Fuquay-Varina. Excited that it's the chosen one for NC. $357K. Traffic's a little heavy, but better than the ghetto apartment in Cary where we live now. I'm 59 and I lived in the apartment below ours when I was 13. Anything new in Cary is obscenely expensive.
