      40,000 nits is satisfactory for watching shows such as the Golden Girls or Alf, but if you really want some true brightness wait for 100,000 nits.
      100k nits will require dedicated commercial power line installed to your home, but worth every penny.

    I have a 77 inch A95L in a room with good blinds, not blackout but they do a good job. I often run my tv at or near minimum brightness. If it’s sunny I’m still under 50% brightness. I couldn’t imagine turning it to 100. At night with the lights of the lower brightness settings still have enough dynamic pop to make my eyes bleed. Why on earth would we ever want it brighter? Are TV manufacturers out of ideas and like what can we improve on now? Let’s make it brighter I guess??
    I’m already squinting during explosions in movies and as a gamer I’m finding eye strain with extended use running in and out of dark game environments. The push to brighter is mind boggling.

    It's quite interesting how what I care about completely differs from the mainstream. Smart TV is in the very last position... I'm using an Apple TV anyway. Power consumption plays a role, but as long as it's less than a plasma, I'm happy. OLED is very important, though I'd rather have QDEL or MicroLED. LED/Mini LED is a death sentence, unless it's a dual layer reference monitor. Brand doesn't matter. Preferably not Samsung, but I ended up with a Samsung regardless. Screen size isn't nearly as important as image quality. If you want a bigger image, move closer. Motion performance is important. Image optimization is switched off anyway, I don't want AI upscaling at all, I don't want artificial denoising, I don't want any form of image improvement, motion interpolation, ... I'd be very happy if they exactly emulate the way a plasma displays its image... color by color, "slowly" fading, pulsing longer for a brighter pixel, ...

    Most people (non enthusiasts) just want a large screen at a low price and basically think all TVs are created equal. They really have no idea about TV tech or what contributes to good picture quality, and I'd say most don't care. They think a 4K TV will make everything look great and don't even watch 4K content on it. I've had friends comment on how good my 6 year old OLED looks and have had to explain to them about emissive vs. LED backlit, contrast ratio, HDR, etc.

Hell I might go as far to say the majority doesn't know there's quality difference at all they think they are buying a size and a brand. 4k & smart are the 2 other most common bits of previous information people come in with. Everyone has a question about the smart but honestly most the time I'd say 50% of people who bring up 4k don't know what it means.

    Quantum Dots don't care about how much energy you out through them, they just get as bright as you need and given that we're talking about direct output from QD to produce the light it should be as pure as possible.
    This should also be easily implemented in manufacturing, because existing LCD factories can be used to make them.
    Sharp has already said that if they get interest they will license the tech to other companies to make this display tech for next gen TVs.
    It should be entirely possible for brighter than the Hisense 10K nit TV, with infinite contrast and much lower power consumption.
    Cost will be far lower than MicroLED too.
    QDEL is the Holy Grail of 2D picture technology!

  • @loki76
    @loki76 8 місяців тому +1

    I would easily choose a QDEL over OLED and even MiniLED if for example it could do 500+ nits at 100% window and 1500 nits at smaller windows for HDR highlights. Because with the bigger full screen brightness it will be more consistent. No ASBL and minimal ABL would also make it a winner. Full color gamut and no risk for burn in at all. Yep, that and big enough sizes and it will be the superior choise.
    That talk of 3700 nits is just for a split second and at 10K Kelvin. So you can tamper that down a lot when using D65 and any sustained HDR specular highlight is one that will dip instantly to much lower "sustainable" nits.
    Also the "MiniLED will never be like OLED". Sure maybe not in the dark. But it is already looking as good with light in the room 98% of the time. Because the infinite black doesn't matter when you have biological limitations of our eyes. The Veil effect. A deep dark grey is going to look black when next to a "lit up" object. So as MiniLED advances with more zones and fine tuned control.
    It will be harder to tell the difference.
    There will be ever smaller advantages of the OLED. People also forget OLED has problems with near black and hence "shadow detail" compared to MiniLEDs that do it right. Most black crush. But not Sony.
    Vast majority of people watch content with some light on.

  • @Kuranghi
    @Kuranghi 8 місяців тому +1

    What the hell is a multi-stack OLED panel going to cost though?! The problem is already the cost of, especially in 65"+ sizes, my customers often choose MiniLED almost purely because of the price, they want 75", 85 and even 100" TVs, £4500-6000 is way beyond the average consumer's budget and 97" OLEDs are still WAG tellys.
    If FALD LCD backlights can be improved (or the next thing comes to surpass them before MicroLED is mature) to give dark scenes that look the same as OLEDs outside of highlights that take up a few pixels then OLED will be in trouble. My country is football mad, they want bright and vibrant football, which is one area where OLED is resolutely beaten by bright LCD, so thats a major factor too.

    Although, if you've never actually watched anything on an OLED, plasma or CRT and the only thing you've known is backlight bleeding, grays for blacks and blooming LCDs, you likely won't know what you're missing. There won't be a true OLED replacement until microLED TVs come in a realistic size and price.

      I agree. I’m planning on buying a flash ship 2024 or 2025 Samsung soundbar. If IMAF is worse then atmos or dts x, which I’m assuming it is, I’m hoping companies don’t just decide to go for the cheap route and use IMAF, which will suck.

If those streaming services are already going to provide 3D for the Apple over-priced headgear, do they have any plans to allow 3D streaming to other legacy 3D devices? (I mean, if the capability is already available, couldn't they allow devices like mine to stream 3D for little additional expense?)

I'm not saying it will be better than OLED in a pure dark room but probably able to hang. No dimming or burn in issues. It's the return of the backlight master drive and this time with more zones...oh baby!

      If Sony X95L 85inch is anything to go by for the quality of future Mini LED tech, i'll never have a second thought about any version of OLED again - Sony just need to not have worse performance in smaller sizes in the same flagship model(s) but with similar flagship prices still. You don't want to sell flagships for cheaper? (smaller sizes) then don't release those versions to begin with.

      That isn't how it works. You need really high nits to get image like it is in real life. If you go outside on a bright summer day and took the brighness measurement of a flower in a feild the nits that flower would put off is higher then what TV's can even do today. So you want TV's to reach the tens of thousands of nits, remember that isn't full screen it's highlights and to show colors that you otherwise couldn't produce. Once they make a TV that produces images exactly like real life it'll probably hit like 50,000-100,000 nits or more and you'd need to carry a cloth with you when you first look at it so that you can wipe up the drool. lol
