In this video, we’re going to talk about the risk of calcium supplements, primarily calcium carbonate.
What is calcium carbonate?
Calcium carbonate is a form of calcium that’s basically limestone. It’s rocks, and it’s in many of the most popular multivitamin supplements. You would be better off chewing on the rocks outside-it’s not meant for humans.
When you lose stomach acid, your blood pH becomes more alkaline too. When the blood becomes too alkaline, you can’t absorb calcium. Calcium is very alkaline. You need a very acidic stomach and the right blood pH to absorb calcium.
Vitamin D takes the calcium from your stomach and concentrates it into the blood. From the blood, vitamin F takes it into the tissues and bones. If you’re consuming calcium carbonate and excess vitamin D, and you’re not consuming vitamin F, you’re going to have a lot of calcification problems. A good source of vitamin F is flax oil.
Healthy sources of calcium:
• Fermented milk sources (cheese, yogurt, kefir)
• Greens
• Almonds
• Sea kelp

Thanks for your advice.. I stopped taking my multivitamin of 20 years and after a few days my heel spur was feeling better and then a couple weeks later, the stiffness in my left knee disappeared. My knee was an unexpected result. I used the apple vinegar and water like you suggested. Thanks a lot for your advice.
Acv for what??
Apple cider vinegar helps clear out calcium deposits from multivitamins in your joints.. At least it seems like it.. I forgot that I posted that ^^
Having spinach , kale ,Apple cider vinegar nlemon can produce more HCl in ur stomach tho n taking b6 also will help ur digestion
Thank you for all you do to help people understand and get healthier ! What do you think of diatomaceous earth ? Among so many other benefits, when I read it can help clear blocked arteries, I jumped on board! I usually add it to a smoothie but now I've read that since it absorbs everything, you shouldn't take it with any thing you're trying to get nutrients from LOL always learning
This stomach acid info I got from your video about it saved my life. Thank you very much.
Thank goodness this is still available for reference
This is so much better than wasting time trying to find answers on Google.
Watching this 9 years later and still hitting the spot!!
My mother was advised by her doctor for years to take calcium supplements, and 3 years ago she had a stroke. She was always healthy for an eighty years old, ate from home most of the time, lots of veggies and good proteins, plus she went to the gym twice a week. The stroke changed everything, and I always wondered why this happened to her! Now, I have a better understanding! I can't say for sure the calcium supplements caused it, but I do have my doubts.
My mother also take, what should I do?
@@solidname9085 I'm not sure, maybe try to find calcium supplements that's more whole food based, do some research. My mom used to take centrum silver, which was not food based.
@@l.torres6276 thx
@@solidname9085 stop taking calcium and take D3+ K2 instead
Did your mothers or yourself take Magnesium, Vitamin D3, and Vitamin K2 every day as well? And enough iodised Seasalt against demineralisation? B Vitamins high dose because of malabsorption with age? Drink enough but not too much good drinking water? Stress? Pain or Anxiety? Social Connectedness? No high-oxalate diet? Pray regularly to the good shepherd?
Did she listen to her doctor and take any medicine like against high blood pressure? Instead of fixing gut health!, diet balance, nervous system function and cardiovascular membrane elasticity. If you read this and are interested it can’t hurt to check out Sally K. Norton and her 2023 book ‚Toxic Superfoods‘ about some ‚modern‘ Food Recommendations are unhealthy and why! She explains Calcium Metabolism too, I fixed kidney stones in a few month with her diet *optimisation* no new stone forming after 4 years of *stones* 😊
Great as usual , always with the answers to our burning questions included , thank you , doctor ¡
Dr berg my Doctor told me to take calcium and after 5 day I didn’t felt good, somethings told me to stop take calcium, and now i know that I was right. Thank you you are the dr for all the world, every country respect you and love you. God bless you and your family.💗
so many health experts recommend alkalization, and others suggest the opposite. nutrition is so controversial and confusing.
just as the note to add, calcium carbonate is the cheapest! pharma saving $$$$ on expensive vitamins supplements. Notice as well micro milligrams off more more $$$$$ vitamins in you daily suppl.B12, b6, k, etc.dr. Berg is actually use the education in proper way ! Tremendously appreciated from me.
Just think about things and you'll get there.
For example: Eat fat, you get fat. We all know this is false. Insulin determines fat storage, not fat. Sugar impacts insulin far more than fat.
Now, alkaline: just because you eat alkaline, does that make your body alkaline? And if so, what part of your body is alkaline? Stomach? Sm-Intestine? Lg-intestine? Saliva? Skin? Blood?
Ingesting alkaline food doesn't mean you get alkaline. Your ph is determined by your body's homeostatic systems. Blood ph does not change (7.35-7.45) no matter what you eat, or else you'd die.
It does affect urine ph, but urine is how your body maintains homeostasis: it excretes whatever you have excess of. This is the way it is supposed to work.
dobra malinovica the research shows that the keto diet is very unhealthy actually. The only diet shown to prevent, treat and even reverse diseases like cancers, heart disease and autoimmune diseases is the whole food plant based diet.
+Rube i dont care about reasearch. I see the result on my body. I loose weight, any sickness, lot of energy and feeling great. I never believed in "reasearchs". Dont forget that "reaserch companies" works for pharma companies...
Rube, we cant have a nutrition discussion without vegans flooding us with mis-information. The vegan or Whole Food form of veganism has not been proven superior at all. When corrected for confounders, meat eaters do just as well. There is absolutely nothing harmful about a keto diet that is done properly. Check your facts.
Hi Dr. Berg, my son who is 6 years old fractured his elbow. What would be the best supplements to help him heal ? Thank you
Does it matter how much you take in, such as small doses compared to large doses? Does vitamin f make calcium carbonate less harmful? Or should it be avoided at all costs? I am taking Soylent 1.4v and I am stressed now that I could be doing more harm than good.
Is tricalcium phosphate less harmful than carbonate or are they similar? Can you please do a video on this? They have this instead of carbonate in Almond milk. I drink a lot of this and no dairy milk ( unless it's raw and fermented kefir )
It is in my orange juice too! Is it ok, Dr. Berg?
So awesome and so true! It's sad that we don't have educated doctors like Doctor Berg to help us get on the road to feeling better; all we have are doctors who are book smart and are only good enough to write prescriptions to kill us in the long run. My goodness! We need more doctor Bergs in our lives and the world!! 👏👌👍
Absolutely ❤️
What about eggshells? They are made of calcium carbonate yet many Doctors recommend using them as a calcium source (by boiling and baking them to sterilize and then grinding them up into powder). So does this video also apply to eggshells?
I take a serrapeptase supplement and one of the ingredients is "calcium from serrateric" the enteric coating. Is that ok to take or is that still a bad form of calcium?
another fantastic, informative video. Thank you.
Hi, i would have a question about replacement for Carbonate, like Calcium Citrate, what do You say about Citrate as a Supplement, is it better or worse wenn we taking it?
I can’t find anything bad about calcium citrate. It’s easily absorbed and actually helps prevent kidney stones by binding to oxalates in your food.
I been telling people this for years..... do't eat rocks, let the plants do that and then eat the plants.....
Only problem. . . who can eat 15 cups of beans daily?
Or 15 cups of spinach?
@@Piddeaux 15 cups of spinach contain about 3,675 mg of calcium. You need about 1,000 mg calcium/day.
What about oxalates which prohibit calcium absorption in the plants
Then eat the cheese that comes from the animals that eat the plants
Very informative, presented well, great video.
Dr. Burg, I wish you or your assistant would reply to some of the comments you get. Some of them are good questions🤗
No, he won’t unless he gets paid for it. Either you pay for the consultation or buy his extremely expensive supplements. These days he is not even treating, he strictly only does seminars or videos.
Dr Berg puts of invaluable information that is worth volumes, I noticed you’re on here getting information you’re not paying for and also he is not forcing anyone to buy his supplements which are some of the best in the world, he has thousands of videos on his website which covers almost any subject you may be wanting him to answer on here, he is a precious honest source of yes FREE information, shame on anyone complaining about not getting one on one free information, he is busy researching to transfer his hard work on to us to save our lives, go to your regular MD and get your this kind of valuable information, ain’t gonna happen
He does answer some questions.
But think about it, he’s probably getting thousands of comments or questions on his thousands of videos every day, so he’s clearly only going to respond to a very small percentage of them.
I noticed Dr. Berg uses calcium lactate in his supplements. He also recommended calcium citrate instead of calcium carbonate in another video he posted on PMS.
He mention spinach in this lecture, which is also a good source of calcium.
Algae calcium. (Lithothamnium calcareum)
The calcium lactate is also rock based, I just bought his electrolyte powder but I’m gonna stop using it because of this 🥲
@@ShroomadeI use Dr Bergs electrolyte powder. The one thing he mentions specifically about the powder is they do not use Calcium Carbonate (the rock).
I was taking calcium carbonate but because of this video I'm replacing it with vitamin F. thank you very much I appreciate your videos
Wtf lol
That comment did not come out right I meant to say I replaced it with
Vitamin K 2

I don't take anything with Calcium Carbonate but is milk dangerous to have since it's usually fortified with calcium?
@@lucidityfps9638 maybe less than calcium carbonate ? idk ......

I'm 75. So what do I do for my bone density problems? Testosterone therapy? Been taking calcium citrate and vitamin d3 for about 12 years. I play tennis regularly and do exercises with kettle bells and dumbbells. I have osteopenia, iron deficient anemia, and Crohn's disease (in remission for 2.5 yrs due to Humira). They wanted me to take alendronate, but I refused, figuring that I don't want to slow the disposal of old bone, but rather speed up the production of new bone. Never had any sort of stones. I will try the flax oil and all the other stuff you mentioned. Thanks for your helpful videos. Thumbs up and subscribed. By the way, I get all my in person medical help from the Veterans Administration Healthcare system. It could be better, for example they don't seem to be real big on preventive medicine, but I can't complain and am very thankful for it, as they saved my life.
what do u use my doc if u are itching all the time your hands feet hair what vitamin does the body need
Btw, i recently found out that i am lactose intolerant and i also have a hypersensitivity to almonds. So vegetables greens though should be enough for me? Should i take vitamin d supplements with cod liver oil then? Btw i live in canada. What are your thoughts about those yummy looking vitamin d3 chewable chocolates? I was so tempted to buy today but i wanted your advice first. Lol.
Since stores are not selling romaine or leafy greens due to the stupid ecoli bacteria scare which now includes ground beef, what do we get out veggies from and I'm taking 600 mgs. Betaine hcl with 1 tsp acv about 1/2 hr prior to my meals, how much betaine shpuld we take?
Is Red Algae based calcium supplement a safe and good form of calcium. My doctor said my blood calcium levels were too low, so I've been taking 600mg at night, I've noticed my eye sight getting worse which may be something else, ?
Thx. It always helps by full details when u explain it.
Thanks for letting us know this Dr Berg. I've been reading labels. I see almond milk and coconut milk all have added CALCIUM CARBONATE. I was using these on the keto diet. Not going to use anymore, as I've had some of the symptoms you mentioned.
Wow 😯
Thanks for making me aware of this being in almond milk! 😮
Wow i usually drink almond Mik or coconut milk! What milk should we drink now ?? 😮
i dont no where you get your coconut milk from
but mine doesnt have any in it.
Raw cows milk if u can get it
Damn it! My sugar free almond milk is fortified with calcium carbonate. It seems like everything in the modern environment is trying to kill me.
I found some Organic unsweetened Almond milk in vanilla flavor at Costco that doesn't contain calcium carbonate.
Just soak almonds overnight and then blend them and you have almond milk
It is.,it's like being in a boxing ring with no break
Your absolutely correct. Both parents took calcium supplements for years. They both had hypercalcemia of the aorta and arteries both needed heart surgery and the surgeon said they were full of calcium And ironically both got cataracts.
Wow 😮
Some people do need it I myself for ex but some people need magnesium and are given calcium which is dangerous
Is that the same as having a prominent aorthic button and with calcified atheromous plaques??
I had double strength calcium supplements few months ago....Now diagnosed with thick biliary sludge in GB...Advised surgery...What shld I do ?

DR Berg What is your opinion about Algae Calcium, that is also plant based calcium but still calcium carbonate, please reply.
Thank you Dr. Berg, I really needed this video 😊❤️
My former doctor told me to take calcium carbonate for the rest of my life, my ankle hearts so much now I can't move & my kidney hearts a little bit so as soon as I can function I will go make calcium test , I hope it's today, thanks doctor, that was very helpful
I'm glad I found this video, I was about to add calcium supplements in my diet.
Get calcium citrate. It causes less gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and kidney stones.
Great piece of info
Thanks Dr. Berg
Dr Berg, I have been told that I have three arteries blocked with calcium ( Calcified Plaques) I have been taking 1000 iu of vitamin D daily for many years and years ago I stopped taking calcium but continued with Vit D. Can you please tell me how do I reverse this blockages? Would vitamin K2 and vitamin F help at all?
You should have been taking k2 and mag and boron with the D to ensure the D/calcium in your vitamins and diet goes to the bones and not the soft tissues
It looks as if he is describing everything im doing wrong and the digestive issues im having: taking too much antiacids(calcium carbonate), poor digestion, problems digesting fats, stress, etc. Ok, but what options do i have with constant acidity? The proton pump inhibitors i ve read are not good options. 😕
Thank you for all the information you give. I truly appreciate it. So, is it ok if I take Citrical calcium supplements? I hope so because I've been taking them for a long time. Thank you in advance for your answer.
No!
Just threw a out three bottles almost full, multi vitamin, vitamin c and a calcium magnesium+zinc. All containing calcium carbonate. Thanks Dr. Berg
I have excess calcium. I have had a stroke. Both carotid arteries are blocked , left completely, right 60 % blocked. Neurologist say there's nothing they can do. I take Krill Oil and Magnesium daily. What else can I do to get rid of my excess calcium?
D3 and k2
I've been consuming way too much of the calcium carbonate accidentally as it's in a lot of vegan milks! It's what makes the oat milks taste extra creamy and I was drinking about a carton a day which is 150% rda of calcium carbonate. Is there a way to flush this harmful substance out of my body?
Wet cupping is the only way to detox poisons from your body
Citrates
dr berg are you saing vit d and magnesium does not help bone health ?
Wouldn't be calcium in nuts and legumes blocked when consumed raw due to phytic acid? example - almonds, or is it only in shell which is removed anyway?
i just bought 600 carbonate tabs to 😱 but so far in my keto journey everything has made sence and seen the benefits, i shall switch 👌

Can you make a video about people who have had their gallbladder removed please?
Such great advise thank you.
Hi Dr. Berg- Would you please make a video about bulimia and what kind vitamins someone can take in order to help to achieve the cure of it? Thank you.
can you recommend a cal mag supp?
Thank you Dr Berg you’re always so helpful.
You're welcome. Happy to share this information.
This is so educating. I so didn't realise that you need vitamin D with calcium and then you need vitamin F to aid vitamin D. I will be looking to get my calcium from Sea Kelp or Coral Calcium. Except with Coral Calcium it's a case of which is the better of Fossilised or Non. Shan't ever get the carbonate form that's for sure.
Nice vedio..🙂
What can we do if we have taken in past calcium carbonate with vit d as i have vit d deficiency and my gall bladder is removed in 2006 now i am in 20s?
Oh my, I have been taking calcium in addition to y multi vitamin. I need to trash all.
How do I get it out of my body? My labs are great.
I don’t know what to believe. Previous to this video, I saw a researcher from a medical university who said their research just came on a new discovery-that calcium carbonate in the “environment “ of their dish of cancer cells stopped cancer cells from growing. When they stopped the calcium cabonate, the cancer came back. Also a study on vertigo showed that balancing calcium carbonate with Vitamin D improved patients with vertigo by a huge percentage. Too much confusing information.

Dr, can you please talk about a condition called DCIS which is a calcification in the breast.? Thank you.
Doc, any suggestions for gastric sleeve patients that are supposed take calcium “citrate” for life?
I have osteoporosis, mother, grandmother, sister, also had it. Mother had fractures from her neck to her tail bone. I have been taking Calcium elemental Microcrystalline Hydroxyapatite 1200 mg a day it has many other supplements in this (jarrow brand). Now I’m worried if I should stop. I don’t eat dairy, just started eating a little aged cheese. Had leaky gut doing much better, but many food allergies. If you know anything please help.
I’m almost 75, I do exercise.
i truly see some good questions here... hopefully someday youll make a segment to answer some or it would be better if they were answered here😉👍👍 BIG thanks for sharing ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
He has made new videos that answer all the questions. Magnesium D3 and K2 is what most people need. Some need calcium too, if they have digestion problems etc.
Zinc and vitamin b6 (in the form of p5p) is also very important for magnesium. (That is why they made the "ZMA" supplement. ZMA has the normal type of vitamin b6, get p5p to be sure.)
He would get thousands of questions a day if he answered them on here and then he wouldn’t have time to do any new videos, or research anything new.
Think about it. He could have a whole team of people answering questions and they still wouldn’t get through them all.
You are truly the best! Thanks again for your knowledge and ability to break these processes down for consumption! Pun intended!
Hey doc what about calcium from egg shells. I've seen people crush egg shells and use it as a calcium supplement. (after they clean them and boil them for a few minutes to kill bacteria)
Would that be a good source of Ca or no? Some soak them in lemon juice overnight...
I also want to know
Wow, now I want to know too!
It's bad
..Or soak them in Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar until they dissolve, then drink the mixture..
My Dr wants me to take vit d and calcium together. Because my latest dexa scan shows I am close to osteoporosis.
Do you thunk I should ask for vit k2 supplement instead?
Apparently one of the side affects is " narrowing vessels" with calcium. We didn't know and found out after, after my husband had a stroke and has a narrowing vessel on the right side of his brain. We found out and he refuses it now but still has multiple mini strokes and surgery is too risky. First stroke was in 2021.
Im hearing that ground organic egg shells are a good source of minerals. Can anyone shed light on this?
I know a story when Egg shells+fish oil cured TB
Yes! Need acid to leach out the mineral matrix from the shell ! Put bits of cleaned shells (or grind into powder ) into soup & stews together with tablespoon or so of ACV and cook together ~ every day ~ excellent organic combo.
Certainly good for dogs
Calcium-carbonate, whether it's good is up to you to decide.
Dr. Berg, I have no gallbladder so does the sun help the vitamin D to be absorbed in the body?
So, in what form does calcium occur in kale, for example, after all?
I am confused? I thought vitamin K2 transported the calcium??
Wow! Thank you Dr. Berg!
This is so informative and such important information for everyone.

Is calcium phosphate safer to take? I want to take an affordable multivitamin, but most contain the dreaded calcium carbonate.
what about eggshells ??? I'm confused. I'm allergic to all kinds of milk products, can't afford kelp, and can't eat almonds because of IBS and candida. Can't get enough calcium through veggies. What else can I do? What about Calcium phosphate as supplement?

What if I get proper calcium intake through my diet and not supplementation? Am I at the same risk if I go 50-60% higher than my regular intake amount or am I fine? All coming from heathy foods.
Calcium carbonate is basically Tums. So taking that every day is going to mess up the stomach lining because of the rebound acid as well which will more than likely lead to histamine intolerance.
Dr Berg. Are the different calcium supplements all dangerous for arteries and other parts? I have tingling in hands and feet and weakness in legs (not always). I think you suggested vitamin B1 and/or calcium. I take the vitamin but anxious about calcium.
Low potassium could also be the culprit. I'd recommend blood work to check all your levels.

Wow very interesting information very helpful. I have a question, so calcium carbonate is not good for us to take as a supplement, which type of calcium would be good for us to take with better absorption, if we really have to supplement calcium? Which is the link what was mentioned in the video?
So I am taking both calcium (as calcium hydroxyapatite, citrate, aspartate, alphaketoglutarate, lysinate ) along with magnesium, phosphorous, and potassium. I aslo drink raw milk once daily for a protein shake which uses natural egg protein. I am taking 4,000 iu of D3 as well. None of this is for making bones stronger etc. I am taking these for my muscles to help them work well as I do my strength workouts.
At 65 yrs I am building muscle much better than I would have thought possible. My pancreas do not produce insulin so I am taking that with meals or when glucose is high. I am very insulin resistant so I take about five times more than most diabetics do to reduce glucose levels. All this insulin results in weight gain, which is why I resisted doctors suggestions of taking insulin for so many years and I tried many other things. I am trying to leverage the insulin's steroidal properties to make sure some of the weight gain is muscle, figuring I may as well get some good out of it.
I was raised on raw milk and I still drink it daily and I have been taking one 500mg tablet of the calcium for activating the muscle cells, so is this OK, or am I in danger of too much? I do want to get maximum muscle cell activation for contraction.
you may have saved my life. ty doctor
I have a question please. What about drinking hard water with high levels of calcium for extended periods ?
Ive noticed signs of very early symptoms that may potentially be the result of future heart related issues ever since we’re consuming hard water at home (for the past 8 years) but could not find research to back this suspicion.
Drink distilled water. Get minerals elsewhere.
What about calcium Citrate Malate with vitamin D and Folic Acid?
my cholestrol medicine (atorvastatin) has inactive ingredient of Calcium carbonate in it...I'm going to have to talk with my doctor about this.
I tried to flash mine or put them down the sink, but they wouldn't budge unless I poured boiling water on them at high pressure for four minutes. So I buried them.
Is calcium carbonate okay in natural toothpaste?
