Is the size of the glovebox really that big of a deal in Europe? I don't think I've ever stored anything in mine, other than the owners manual and insurance papers.

    • @q3b26
      @q3b26 3 роки тому +8

We don’t carry insurance papers in Europe, but the majority of cars have air conditioned glove boxes so it’s nice having a large glove box to store drinks or food for a longer journey. I always have a couple of bottles or cans in the glove box in case I need a drink on a motorway.

Very happy with my v40cc d2 here in Netherlands. The cup holder - handbrake problem at 6:08 does not exist here. It applies only to right hand drive versions - uk, south Africa, India etc.. Volvo did not redesign the position of the handbrakes for right hand drive models.

Really happy with mine. The ride is amazing and heated seats are a big plus. I own the d2 2.0 and the power is adequate. Wanted something that was practical and could handle light off roading. Almost bought a Qashqai but really glad I waited. The Volvo interior is on another level. My d2 is at 45000 miles and runs like a new car. Feels solid.

Infotainment system isn't as bad as you say to use: you can also control it via the controls on the steering wheel (right-hand side) or, for some commands, by voice. Either way less distracting than touch-based systems. Something most reviewers seem to miss.

  • @nautabrodic7806

You forgot to mention a standard city safety system and 98 points in EURONCAP tests! I think that using buttons is much safer than tablet during a drive. Tablet distracts too much. But unfortunately, are much cheaper for manufacturers than properly engineered buttons!

I got a Skoda Octavia and a Alfa Romeo Mito before my V40 Rdesign. Also drove a Mercedes ML 320, and the V40 is really a good value for comfort and driving. And yes practicality could be better, but I never needed anything else until now.

It's interesting to see the car with the wheel on the right(I am from China, and driver is on the left) my girlfriend just got this car, not the exact model though, she s got the t3. the ride tends do get bumpy when the road condition is not ideal. on highway though, this little car is way more capable than what i have expected. I honestly thought the 150 hp engine would be wimpy, but when I stepped on the gas, the turbo engine did not hesitate to supply me with more than ample power. And my girlfriend loves those dial buttons, she has the propensity to memorize others' number and finds it handy. all in all, a fabulously designed small car packed with an awesome engine.

The gearbox should not be that slow in normal "D" mode.
I have the 8-speed mated to our v40 T5 and I feel that the "D" mode
is veeery responsive and fun, sport is just annoying because it just hold the
RPMs too high for driving with any traffic.
Sure if you're out on a country road and you're all alone the sport is just fine, but
the car doesn't really shine on those roads anyways.

Just purchased my 2014 D2 1.6 cross country coming from a 14 plate focus ecoboooom. Always had a soft spot for Volvos so thought I would go for this. Love it to bits, only downside is the spec in mine is a little thin. No sat nav, blis, rear camera or internet button. I thought I’d regret going for the 1.6 D for lack of power but I can’t fault it, really pokey if needed also excellent mpg. Got mine in Sept 2023 with only 49k miles & complete full s/history with it. Will need to look at belt change soon though. More than happy otherwise.

I don't think it's appropriate compare it to other crossover because it's basically just a hatchback, it's like comparing the Vauxhall Adam Rocks with an Audi Q2 because it has some beefy body cladding.
The only problems I have with my v40 is that the front passenger seat has really awkward footwells so it's a little uncomfortable, the rear windows and the cupholders in the front. I also think the infotainment is good however a little bit confusing, I think it's a little bit like a pretty release demo version of Idrive but it definitely not low Def in my opinion

Tell me Mat what is this fetish regarding water bottles that every car reviewer has? Followed by the equally strange obsession with cup holders. I've never found the need to store plastic water bottle or to have drinks slopping around the cabin. It seems that a car can be the most perfect combination of engine, body and price and be totally rubbish if a plastic bottle doesn't fit in the door.

I have a V40 D4 (not CC though) and 1 key note, V40’s(or any other Volvo)’s steering feel differs substantially based on steering weight setting. Based on Mat’s reaction I suspect the test car was in lightest setting. Light mode is just awful, it’s like stirring cornstarch slurry. Middle setting is the best you get quite a lot of feel and response back
and well weighted steering, also sport mode sharpens the steering response. Heavy mode feels like driving with broken power steering.

I like this car overall. I drove the d4 r design. Takes off like shit off a shovel! The inside is uncomfortable and dated but the outside is really good looking. Good car

How come some rear windows in cars don't go all the way down?

The design of the door. If the door is narrower in the bottom to go round with the wheelhouse the glas just can not go all the way down.

Well its a bit of a shame that he never tests the top of the range models, just the cheap momentum trim. Also, unlike any of its competitors, the Volvo V40 and V40 Cross Country will be replaced in 2018, so it isn't really fair to make a review of a car that's been on the market for 6 years.

The amount of buttons on the center console and the oldfashioned infotainment let me down compared to the new Volvo models, I'd definitly wait for the next gen V40!

rogerthat It came out in late 2012, around the same time as the Golf VII. It's not "WAY overdue". But yes, it's near the end of its life cycle.
