    From the age of 22-30 I have driven Honda Accord, Hyundai Elantra, Volvo V50, Volvo V70, Audi A4 B8, Audi A6 C7 and now this Volvo V40. I can tell for myself that this is so far by far the comfiest of them all and sturdy aswell. The car feels heavy, strong, safe. It feels like as if you were to drive Nokia3310.

    A NOTICE to anyone interested in this car!!! I own this same car except it’s black and is from 2015. If you plan on purchasing this, you must be fully aware that this vehicle has a very very strict service schedule. It is paired with a PSA (Peugeot-Citroen) engine that Must be driven on a motorway type road at speed at least once a week or else the Diesel Particulate filter (DPF) will get clogged. When this happens it will cost £1500 or more to replace. This engine is not suitable for people who do short journeys (15mins or less). Also the transmission is the notoriously unreliable Ford Powershift. This transmission requires an oil + filter change every 30,000miles or 3years (whichever comes first) otherwise it will slowly destroy it self (very common). Also this car does not feel as smooth as a traditional automatic, please be aware of this as it is essentially a manual gearbox controlled by a computer. Now this car in this specific engine choice (D2, Pre 2016) can be very reliable if taken care of. My personal car has done about 150,000 miles and is still going strong. However, it is also worth noting that as the Powershift transmission is a Wet dual clutch system, the clutches will eventually wear out like a manual car. This had just happened to mine although it may occur earlier (+/-100,000miles). This will cost £1800-£2200. Your first signs of clutch wear will be juddering on acceleration or harsh jolting in 1st & reverse. Or you may start to get an oil leak from the transmission bell housing due to the clutches being worn down and there being too much play, causing a seal to leak. I hope this was helpful for anyone looking to purchase this car and as a head up if you don’t mind spending a little extra on fuel but want to deal with less maintenance then I suggest purchasing the following engine types instead: D3, D4, T3, T4, T5. Skip the D2 from 2016 onwards as they’re known for developing cracked cylinders heads & walls along with premature coolant leaks.

    I can't comment for anyone else, BUT I have owned probably 20+ cars in my lifetime and I have never needed front door bins that can take massive bottles of water ever, as long as they can take my scrunched up twin wrappers and old car park tickets then that's enough for me

    • @paulcredmond

      Totally true, I don't know why this is brought up in so many reviews 😆

    • @ejpurkis
      @ejpurkis 4 роки тому +5

      Absolutely true. All these reviews follow the same theme. You can write the script; Cup holders, Door bins how they handle relative to the Focus - oh I nearly forgot ‘ scratchy plastics, and ‘I soft touch materials’. All of them attempt to emulate Mat from CarWow. He is at least mildly entertaining if you are in the right mood.

      I prefer having bottles in the door panel than the centre cup holders but it’s not a necessity.

    A few years ago I went to buy a V40, saw that the XC40 had just been released so ordered a new top spec XC40 and it was taking so long, 8 months into the build Volvo gave me a basic R-Design D2 because I was promised my XC40 wouldn’t be with me by the time I had a trip booked to Germany...
    Well I took the V40 to Germany, covered 3,000 miles in those 2 weeks, it was fantastic, my only downside was cruise control wasn’t standard. I averaged 50MPG over the whole trip and I was incredibly comfortable, no back issues at all.
    When I got the XC40 it was plagued with issues and I ended up rejecting it, that was just over 2 years ago now but the car I still long for is the V40. So much so when a friend of mine was trading in a car I persuaded him into one of the last V40 R-Design ‘Edition’ models and he’s loved it.
    I now have a Mercedes E400 - engine, amazing... options, all of them... interior quality, let down... But in all honesty, I still miss the V40 and I’m tempted to trade mine in for a late model.

      It's not the first car you think of, it won't infatuate you at first sight but if you get a chance to drive it, the V40 will get stuck in your head

The flagship in this company is the Golf and to claim that the A3 is premium and the Golf not...haha....yes in VW are happy that you think that way and you pay more for the ugly designed and copied Audi A3.

    I really like my V40 (SE Lux Nav, equivalent to an inscription), but I wouldn't go as far as to say love. The digital TFT display behind the wheel offers great feedback, particularly on adaptive cruise, but I never change themes and overall it's a bit of a gimmick, and behind the times. The sat nav is great, but a bit low res. The back seats have poor leg room, and headroom is a little tight, and the boot is on the smaller side particularly on a car of this size. However the flexible load floor is fantastic and the boot is very versatile. The visibility is pretty good too. The seats are wonderfully comfortable, by far the best seats I've ever used in a car, and the driving position is wonderful too. Handling is really good, far better than the golf (I found the golf a tad boring) but it can feel unsettled at time on really rough roads and the gear change is notchy. I drive about 80 miles a day, and it's the best motorway cruiser I have ever had. It's quiet for a hatchback and irons out the bumps at high speed, easily one of the most relaxing cars and it's a great place to be. It looks great, I get loads of comments on how it looks, it really stands out. But the infotainment system is horrible and really hard to use. Far too many sub menus and the controls are hard to use. It's a great car and definitely worth a look, but It does feel old and behind the times in many ways. Before you get one, make sure you can deal with the bug bares the V40 brings before you buy. Particularly when it costs as much as it does.

    Well if I had to point out something - it is the button orgy, that is going on in the center console!! Like I love the floating console - but Volvo didn't want to or neglect it to solve anything regarding that piece of orgy!! You have a seperate button for each seat, window, head, torso, legs, low, mid, high and also inbetween settings for cold, warm, middle cold, middle warm, very cold, very warm, and such settings!!! Other cars used to have 3 dials for this: 1 air temp, 2 fan speed, 3 direction... Oh and also the phone buttons!! Why Volvo???

    Give an Audi A3 a run for its money ??? The Audi will gradually and surely fall to bits over first 6 years by 10 years it’s likely on 2nd engine or nearly scrap - the Volvo will look and drive as good as it does new . I don’t own a Volvo (i use to ) then I stupidly bought a Audi A5 which spent more time at Audi than the staff did , same story with everyone I know who was stupid enough to buy a modern German car over a Lexus or Volvo or Honda which are all infinitely better engineered than any German car these days

      news ones are too. But, all cars lack the airy feeling of big windows around you like 200 or 700 series Volvos, or even 850s. The windows in this car are smaller. Maybe the xc90 feels more airy but it is way too big for me.

      barozanul2 I've a late 2015 D3,R-Design Lux Nav with geartronic, panaramic roof & all the options. They say gearbox is clunky being old design & isnt Dual clutch. But I've had VW DSG in golf, which was shocking. Performance is spot on even with 5 adults in car, they were shocked. Would buy another one in D3 when he time comes, quality interior, flex floor boot a bonus !!!

      J C I've got the D3 in my C70, and it's fine, with the sports flywheel, it's pretty quick. Plus it gets a boost about 200 rpm on releasing the clutch. "clever"

    • @JC-nk5qv
      @JC-nk5qv 7 років тому +1

      Only downside is it's the 4 cyl D3, had C30 D3 before, which was 5 cyl and sounded ace. But out of the 3 volvos I've owned they have all been Volvo made engines. Always much smoother & quiet compared to Ford sourced lumps 😝. But the 4 cyl D3 still pulls as good as 5 cyl. Sports setting on geartronic helps leave other cars standing at lights. 😊

    • @milosilic23
      @milosilic23 7 років тому +6

      El Boto its a matter of choice. Skoda is not a desirable brand, and is as safe as this. But that being said, skoda is a lot bigger, rather good quality and safe. So it depends on what you want. For a family of two, this is good. For a family of three pr four with strollers and dogs, the superb is untouchable

    I'm sorry but the V40 doesn't give the A3 a run for it's money in terms of the interior. It didn't even do that to the older gen A3 that was out when V40 was first released a couple years ago, let alone the newest A3. A3 has a better quality interior than the S60/V60, let alone the V40.

    • @emililorenzo3835
      @emililorenzo3835 7 років тому +14

      derbigpr500 nope! in my opinion, i hate the interior of a3 in terms of design, well maid, but ugly !! and also my friend has one, the sportback, and i have volvo s60 ahahah. trust me, s60 is better in quality, i have all leather, alluminium and wood in interior, but it's normal ! is a D segment car vs. a C segment car, a 45/50k car vs. a 30/35k car!! but v40 vs a3 i don't know, the interior of v40 are well maid, for me can be equal !!

    • @ismaeltenenbaum4103

    • @emililorenzo3835

      h isbilir only d2 is a ford engine. all others engines are created and builded by volvo!!! maybe you are an audi fanboy, but i prefer v40 all day every day. i have seen and touched both, my friend has an a3 sportback, i also drive it, and i have seen v40 in volvo dealer, made test drive with D3 rdesign.... simply fantastic ! and s60 goes with a4 and a5, a3 doesn't be compared with her, they are different segment and price!

    • @emililorenzo3835
      @emililorenzo3835 7 років тому +1

      h isbilir i can't understand how you can say a3 is better than s60!! i have a s60, i live with her every day, and from what i see and hear, i understand that is an underrated car!! it's fantastic, i have the D4 engine with manual gearbox, very dinamic and comfortable, but also sporty and i don't have rdesign (i have summum). i often see new a3 sportback from my friend, he has 2.0 tdi 150 hp manual! my car is just superior, but because i have all leather, wood as veneer and alluminium combined with soft plastic, very well maid and luxury for the cost of 48500k !! a3 interior is also very good in quality, but it's all plastic and some allumium, leather only in the seats!! so i can understand if you say a3 is better than v40, but than s60 not bro!

    • @emililorenzo3835
      @emililorenzo3835 7 років тому

      h isbilir bah, the a3 in question has leather in seats, it'the quattro version ! thanks for advice, but i remain with my little baby, the s60, i am very satisfied of her ! the cars you say, i have seen it and they was on my list when i bought the s60. there was : s60, q50, 3series, C class and audi a4 ! i forgot jaguar ahah and i don't like lexus IS! and after seen all this cars i choose the volvo, especially for have something different and original ! i spent 41k with promotion than 48k and i am happy :)
