alice in chains live reaction aic first hearing
Warning: once you start listening to this band, you won’t be able to stop.
Jake B amen to that. When I put on other music it sounds kind of boring now lol
So true! Can't stop since 1991! :)
Ain't it the truth.
Same thing happens when you see them live... once means twice means etc...
So true bother ....
I don’t trust anyone who is over 30 and hasn’t heard Alice in Chains
Harry Balszak I’m 25
Lol
HAHA
Alex Hefner still they were wildly popular when you were growing up. Still wildly popular. You suck as a music critic.
Hahaha
- Hi, who are you?
- I'm the grunge's god
- Aaah, you are Layne!
Wowwwww. Rip Layne ❤️
Yea..you just witnessed gods.
Those aren't sound effects either..layne does it with his voice.
@@sinqros that's pretty gnarly
Man in the box is sacraligous song
which effects? There is a talk box guitar doubling Layne's vocal at some points.
@@neilsanderson9732 yea, not used on his vocals, on the guitar.
@@deeznuts-rp2ms It's Jerry on the talk box and guitar syncing up with Lane's vocals. So Lane's vocals, Jerry's vocals and Jerry's 🎸.
A song about censorship and it's censored. The irony.
Long live grunge
Well, that's not properly anout censoring
its about addiction not censorship
Yes, replace pit with shit, and spit with shit.
The song is about censorship and technically they're not grunge they just came from the same area as grunge ...AIC is metal
@@michelangelotroccoli7748 IMO, out of any band that gets the label grunge, Alice is really the only one that I think is really grunge. That fucking sound is amazing. It's gritty, it's dirty, it's grunge.
Man, Layne Staley's voice still gives me goosebumps!
Everytime the "Jesus Christ" verse comes i get chills
Layne sings that chorus like it's nothing
ShrillChilli great song and his vocal in this song never gets old.
agree the one grunge band that was so edgy crazy ever, and his voice so sad hes gone RIP
I think it's the harmonies with Jerry that really bring the chills
Nobody had pipes like layne. He could fuckin wail. One of the best vocalists ever!!! Period
“Would” is still my fave AIC song ever. And one of the top 10 or so songs of all time!
So true !
Long may it be so...
Layne really was one of the greats. Incredible vocalist. RIP ❤
Agreed definitely
Agreed! :)
Not just Layne, his voice was magical for sure. But part of Alice in Chains great vocals is the harmony between him and Jerry Cantrell.
good to see we're still immortalizing junkies, you guys would love the bum at my closest intersection.
@@Knotunit rather immortalize a junkie like Layne then fucked cunts like politicians and religious figures
When you said you’re 24, I realized I’ve been listening to Alice In Chains longer than you’ve been alive. I feel painfully old. I’m glad you liked this. It was the soundtrack to my adolescence and I’m really appreciative of having so many great bands during my formative years. If you’re so inclined to listen to more by AIC: Would?, Down in a Hole, Angry Chair, Again, Nutshell.... actually just buy all their albums and ep’s and live a happy glorious life.
PaintingMyHorror even the Cantrell solo stuff is cool af
PaintingMyHorror I have the same feels. AIC was my entire teenage years.
Couldn't have said it better
Same here, brother! I got the first KISS record for my 8th birthday! I was also a member of the KISS Army waaay back then!😂
Would? is one of my favourite songs of all time, second listening to this!
His face when he first hears Layne's voice
The chorus intensity after the solo still has me shiver 30 years later
You should listen through the whole Dirt album with Alice in Chains. It's one of the best albums ever made.
That is truth.
OH YES IT IS
AMEN!
Jar of flies for me brother nutshell dont follow and no excuses
tastemysaucer Facelift too
"Would" by Alice In Chains. Layne Staley had one of the best vocal abilities in metal.
@Derek Charette AIC was metal that got reputation of grunge cause they came out of Seatlle in 90s. Grunge did have definite influence in their style though
Derek Charette lol, I've noticed that self proclaimed metal fans are the only group of fans that constantly fight about whether or not a band fits into their chosen style lol. Of course AIC is grunge, but they are also as close to metal as any of the grunge bands ever came.
When he said he never heard of Alice in Chains.
Me: 😱😧
I know he's heard of them just didn't realize it but u would have to live under a rock always on the radio always will
@@geraldmulligan5836 who listens to the radio ever?
In a car Duh
I know, little hard to believe, isn't it?
Nothing like driving blasting this with the windows down and singing your heart out.
YES. EXACTLY.
Tyler Mcgrew I know this comment is old, but I just have to write. I was doing exactly that one day while listening to this song on the radio on the freeway. Next thing I know this girl come flying up the on-ramp on my right, long blonde hair streaming out her window, head banging, and clearly (from her mouth movements) absolutely screaming this song. I guess we were on the same station. 😂 It cracked me up.
Yup. When I listen to AIC, everyone around my car does too. Plus I like to scream along with Layne... can't help myself 😁
You would enjoy "Would?" by Alice in Chains.
This. Unplugged.
Not unplugged. Music Video
I'm sure he.... would.
Would check the bass solo
I like this guy. We're friends now. @Axzalius
I suggest 'Nutshell' by Alice in Chains. In addition to 'Would?', but I think 'Rooster' is a necessary listen in my book.
HeyHeyDoYouLikeTacos and "Grind"
AIC was amazing. Layne was vocal beast and his harmonies with Jerry are unparalleled.
I saw them live in 93. Rooster live was amazing.
I take it back. Just listen to down in a hole. Please no one reacts to it and its one of their best
Those were good but Rooster was over the top. Saw them in 93 at Lallapalooza New Orleans. Tool was there. George Clinton. Primus. Even Fishbone. Still Rooster to the prize, best song of the show.
i believe any song from the MTV unplugged album would be necessary. R.I.P. Layne
Also one of my favorite bands to listen to whilst drinking beer SOOO GOOOOD
"I've never heard this song before, but it makes me feel nostalgic, like I have an emotional tie to it..."
Welcome to the 90's, the last era of truly good music. Back then, you didn't have friends who listened to crap music. You just had friends who needed something emotionally different.
I love my generation, not musically speaking, of course. But I'm really talking about Technology and Information. The 90's seemed so AWESOME! I'm 13 and I love the 90's. We had Megadeth with Rust in Peace, Pantera and the Grunge Movement.
@@gustavomelles1 And it was not just rock music. There were also Beastie Boys, Prodigy, Massive Attack, Chemical Brothers, Cypress Hill and many, many more...
Fun fact: my father actually met mike Starr in rehab. My dad said he was a really sweet guy who seemed to care about getting past his addictions. Sadly, couldn’t fight the urges and died of overdose. Rest In Peace Mike.
Man no one talks about Mike Starr enough. Miss him as much as layne despite being born after layne died
Sad story.
Thanks for sharing.
I always cry when i watch that episode of celebrity rehab with Mike Starr and Layne's mom. Mike was an extremely talented man and it's so sad how he always felt guilty for Layne'd death :(
AIC one of the greatest bands all the time
Together with Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and my favoured band Faith No More.
I love y'all taste 👌👌
Of course man
greatest grunge bands.
Michiel Groenewegen You sir, have great taste in music! 🤘
Faith No More is also my favorite of all time.
Alex, this is grunge and it is my comfort blanket. You have to check out more grunge and 90's alternative rock. Try Soundgarden next. Try Fell on Black Day, Outshined and Spoonman. They are my fav grunge band. 90's rock is the best. Also check out more 90's rock like Faith No More, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots, Foo fighters, Green Day, and The Offspring. I love how you have started going out of the metal genre and checking out the softer stuff but no less awesome bands. Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and Faith No More do have a metal sound without being super heavy. They also have 3 of the best rock singer ever. RIP Chris and Layne.
Amen to that!
Double amen!
Soundgarden has so many sounds and faces...No two albums are alike for them. Superunknown has some really great tracks but Down On The Upside has Tighter And Tighter...probably their most underrated song and the one that really sucks you in more than even Superunknown. It just has that Hendrix meets Zeppelinesque sound to it.
He should check out Black Hole Sun from Soundgarden. :D
Most of those "90's rock bands" suck, except that punk band Offspring. Grunge was lame, but Alice in Chains is good. Everything else in that list is complete garbage.
Hard to believe someone hasn’t heard of Alice In Chains
Right? You’re telling me you’ve never played guitar hero or turned on the radio in the past 20 years?
@@DM-tr5ft Dave Mustaine? is it you?
He should be forced to listen to AIC at insane volume levels for at least an hour!
@@bruteforce1228 yes
He was 6 when Layne died so I guess he has an excuse ! But 25 and now 26 he still has time to appreciate them ! 🤘
The best voice in grunge period. Maybe in rock n roll.
I'm a crazy Nirvana fan, but I agree!
Well, in rock I think Freddie (queen) is the best. But in grunge I agree that Layne is the best.
Together with Chris Cornell.
Eddie Vedder!!! Best.
when it comes voice wise its a toss up between aic and mjk
Would by Alice in chains
^^^^^^
Fuck yes!
hell yes
and heaven yes as well.
"Alice in chains - Love, hate, love" that's a masterpiece i'm telling ya!
MAN IN THE BOX IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS OF ALL TIME 🎸🎸🤘🤘 R.I.P. Layne Staley 😢😭
Layne is the best vocalist for me 🤘🏻😭
para mim também.
Olga Helga no one can ever out do the Legendary Layne!
@@amarcos BR aqui.... aí sim!!!
true dat
It's not an opinion, it's a fact
Layne was the best rock/metal voice ever... so much energy, feeling, sadness, sorrow, power, angst,... in one voice... dearly dearly dearly missed...
No, metal goes to Ronnie Jamed Dio, and maybe Ozzy Osbourne, and Bruce Dickinson
Grand Theft Rondo Ozzy shouldn’t even be in this discussion. I love his music but a great vocalist he is not. Layne, Ronnie James, and Bruce are much better. Now of the 4, I would say Ozzy is possibly the BEST entertainer and certainly has an exalted position in the history of metal music. Pure vocal ability? That is not Ozzy’s strong suit.
WTF!
And what about Rob Halford!?
Phil anselmo, zakk wylde
@@isaiahmarquez9717
Are... are we just gonna totally ignore Geoff Tate?
Layne Staley was great. But wait made Alice in Chains great was Jerry Cantrell's harmonizing with him. Along with him blasting that guitar.
Yup
About one in a hundred people have a voice like Jerry Cantrell. About one in a million people have a voice like Layne Staley. Listen again! Layne Staley had tone, the kind you're either born with or you're not. Both could sing, but one had the voice of an angel. Now Cantrells guitar playing on the other hand is impossible to quantify. Too good!!! One of the best of all time IMO. Three of my all time favorite musicians Staley, Cantrell, and Sean Kinney in one band.
Steve Moore true to an extant. However, I can see someone else in Jerry’s position and it would still work, but take Layne out of the equation and there’s no AIC. Love all of them but the true star was definitely Layne and his almost angelic voice lol
If you look at Layne's face during the video, you can't see any feelings. He was just singing with one of the best tones ever, while his face was like "bruh".
I don't know why, but he reminds me John Bush from Armored Saint.
I agree they were the kings of Harmony, but Layne was great without Jerry as well. Case in point, Mad Season.
SIDE NOTE:
Here is a little story about Layne that I thought his devoted fans would find interesting, possibly even touching.
In the Heart book “Kicking and Dreaming”, Ann Wilson revealed that Layne attended a party at her home around 1999.
She said after most of the crowd left that night Layne was still there, and she wanted to go swimming so Layne followed her to the pool.
Layne didn’t get in, but sat in a chair sipping a beer. He told her as a kid that he excelled at swimming, he said
“I loved to dive into water.” He said the water felt like a whole other world.
As Layne sat there and Ann was swimming, a huge meteor went over them and it lit up Layne’s face.
She said he looked like a kid again, and at that moment there was no darkness in his life. Layne said,
“Did you see that? How close do you think that was to us, Ann? Do you think that almost hit us, Ann? How lucky are we to have seen that?”
Ann responded that it was beautiful, and Layne retorted,
“Do you have any idea how rare it is for a meteor that big, and that bright, to come that close to us?
We are really really lucky people Ann. You and me.”
Here is a link to these interesting Factoids in case anyone wants to check them out.

aw, Layne sounds so cool, thanks for sharing!
Beautiful post.
Rooster
Nutshell live
Would all AIC classics
AIC>>>>>>Nirvana, pearl Jam, Soundgarden...AIC best band of that Era
Man, Chris Cornell is the better vocalist. AIC is the better band (vs soundgarden). Though Audioslave is the apex
Alice in Chains- Them Bones!
Congratulations my friend! You have now had the privilege of hearing one of the best rock singers who have ever walked this planet! And, I'm about to say something that will probably get me burned at the proverbial stake, but I think Alice In Chains is the best grunge band ever, followed VERY closely by Nirvana of course! Layne Staley's voice is what puts AIC over the top for me, just fuckin phenomenal! The world lost one of the most talented vocalists when he died and what proves that is he put just as much perfection into his live performances as what was recorded. The rest of the band is top notch as well! Now, for a next song suggestion, I'd go with Rooster. It's just an amazing song all the way around and it has some very powerful imagery as well! Keep rockin bro! 🤘🤘🤘
Couldn't agree more. Aic is better than nirvana. Laynes vocals jerry's guitar mikes bass and Sean's drumming and layne and jerry's harmonizing equals the perfect combination.
Fat Shady Layne is amazing but the band and their skill set is underrated in my opinion. Jerry has a knack for writing solos that just fit perfectly and the rhythm section is always pounding with and amazing beat
@@thewood6324 Absolutely! The band is damn good too!
@@haggard21077 Hell yeah!!
Dude you aint gettin burned at no proverbial stake for thinking that. AIC is the greatest grunge band of all time. Alot of the credit goes to Jerry too, but Layne's voice is what puts them over the top. They are the G.O.A.T. of grunge for sure.
As a teen in the 90's, the music just had more feeling and depth. I really miss the 90's :(
That 90's rock sound. I'm so glad I lived though this. It truly was something amazing. AIC, Stone Temple Pilots, Silver Chair, Sound Garden, Ugly Kid Joe..... The list goes on and on. Special times. I miss the feeling of that time period. Was very exciting.
Also you should react to Alice In Chains - Would ❤
And Rooster ❤
Yes, Would is one of the best songs EVER!!!!!
Would! Yesss!
Hell yeah WOULD! Is the best
Yeeees
Congrats, you’ve discovered the greatest band of all time.
long live rock and roll
This is an authentic experience because if you were around in the early 90's this is most likely the very first Alice N Chains song you heard. This was their introduction to the world and their signature song. Great album as well.
Godam right
Nothing better than 90's
Fucking right
Heard this song on the radio and wondered if you had made a video for it. Glad you did!
It's gonna get better...
Thanks bro. I needed that
"Bleed the Freak" by Alice in Chains
"Them Bones" by the same band
Bleed the freak is a fantastic song🤘
Down In A Hole - ALICE IN CHAINS live unplugged do it!!!
very good song!
The unplugged performance was awful to watch. It was like watching a man on his way to the gallows, and he just didn’t care anymore.
fuck yeah
Yup.
Without a doubt.. Good suggestion..
The band has so many hits the whole album should be on a playlist
So glad you had that reaction at the end to the eyes 😀 when this video came out, this video straight up scared the hell out of me. It took me years to be able to listen to AIC, had to shake the video from my head first.
Rooster by Alice In Chains
So much yes. Rooster is one hellofadeep song, arguably their best and most well known song as well.
That feeling...it's that riff....it hooks into your brain. That and the Staley/Cantrell two part harmony woven through it all.
Jerry is the riff King
Layne’s voice. Nothing like it. Missed
I can't express how entertaining these vids are. Thank you.
AIC - "rooster", you are welcome in advance, brother!!
You should react to Them Bones by Alice In Chains ❤️
• TEE [].[] HEE • yeah man, this is dope
I add my vote to this. It's what made me an AIC fan.
i was about to recomend this exact song !
Alice In Chains and Layne Staley deserved so much more. Always standing in the very big shadow Nirvana and Kurt Cobain casted. Alice In Chains have always been the top dogs of the grunge era, in my opinion.
WOW! Genuine reaction bro I had the same feeling when I first heard it and I grew up on rock! Good shit man subscribed
Rooster Alice in chains
Alice In Chains - Rain When I Die
Ohh men, you stole my idea jajajaja my favorite of AIC 🤘😎
He gon' love it
I'll write the same thing I write every time I see this request...YES!!!
Wookie Lucas Diaz Castillo
Same lol
My absolute favorite. I was 6 months pregnant when Layne passed and I named her Raina after Rain When I Die
Ngl i smiled pretty damn hard when you said life is gonna get better :) if your goin through stuff and can still be this happy than so should i
The reason why this songs feels nostalgic is because no matter what genre of music you’ve preferred we’ve all heard a different type of music before like just because a person prefers hip hop doesn’t mean they haven’t heard it on tv or a neighbor or even a family member playing it, once the human mind hears a song even once it gets put in the memory bank of music
Low key I’ve always loved rock, grunge and death metal but you try being a black girl explaining that genre to Christian parents in a military household! I would’ve gotten the belt, an exorcism and abandoned at the church! 🤣😂😳
R.I.P. LAYNE ALWAYS LOVE HERE FOR YOU!
You don't love him enough to spell his name correctly, apparently
Fucken right man!!!!
Jerry Cantrell is an underrated guitarist in my mind.
Try HOLLOW and THEM BONES for more Alice in Chains
Bryan Herring Oh yeah. Cantrell is a beast.
I think everyone in music respects Jerry.. Shit he made Deftones song Phantom Bride his bitch lol.
Pantera - Hollow.
I agree with giglio33012. People talk about musicians being underrated, but if you know anything about anything you know Jerry isn't underrated. Solid as fuck.
I still have Jerry’s guitar pic from there live show
2:20 his face when he realised he missed out on one of the best rock bands in history 😂 it’s killing me
Plot twist, this dude has heard every song by everyone. BOOM!
Iron Maiden - Aces High
Definitely do more GRUNGE BANDS!!!! Would love to see some Soundgarden and Pearl Jam
What about Pearl Jam - porch live at pinkpop 92? i know that there isn't much singing, but Eddie just went crazy!
Fernanda Valdés Moscoso their live performances in the 90s were absolutely unreal
ikr, what wouldn't I give to go back in time and go to one of them. Sadly, i wasn't even born yet haha
H3lix i love the live version so much
Why so little of AIC?!? 😪😏 React please Love hate love from the Moore 1990! Pleeeeeeeaaaaseeeee🥺🥺🥺
Good call..one of the most haunting live performances I have ever seen..it's up there with Nirvana's unplugged Leadbelly cover... shivers..everytime
Mesmerizing performance ❤️❤️
Olga Helga I’m still waiting for him to do more AiC but the day doesn’t come 😂💔
I love seeing people experience a new style of music to them, and totally digging it.
Sepultura - Refuse/Resist
Welcome to the wonderful world of Seattle Grunge.
I loved your reaction made me smile to see someone enjoy one of my favs. Also my uncle used to jam to this on the guitar he sang really good too.

Never realized that you haven't listened to Alice in Chains until now. You're in for quite of a treat! Definitely check out these songs by them, "Rooster", "Nutshell" (preferably their unplugged performance of Nutshell), "Down in a Hole" (unplugged is also great), "Rotten Apple", "Would?", and there's a ton more!
This!
Would and Them Bones NEED to be done too!!!
Good ones to get started with!

As a lover of all good music I commend you sir!
Alex you are so funny and I love all your videos and def A.I.C is bomb!!
Layne Staley had one of the best vocal abilities and ranges of all time. It had a certain grain to it, and he could also sing in a way that made it sound like he was screaming, but he wasn't. You need to hear Down In A Hole
Definitely my favorite grunge band. It had everything. Good songwriting, great vocals, amazing riffs and even cool guitar solos that many other grunge bands eliminated. Man In The Box is just one of those songs that everyone likes regardless of genre. It's too good. I suggest Them Bones. Short song but has everything it needed
This is the song that broke them into the big time and i love it, but they have so many more great songs. Jerry Cantrell is a amazing guitar player, and Layne Staley was a great lead singer may he REST IN PEACE.
Love all AIC songs! Such power and feeling! 💗
Sea of Sorrow would be nice, thank you Alex.
You should just do an "Alice in Chains week!" LMAO! Get it!
Great idea!
I knew you would like it. These guys were awesome back in the day.

Yes bro listen to Would, the nostalgia is REAL
Alice In Chains is one of the best ever bands. Please, Please dive more into them bro! You'll Love It.
Just react to every song they've made... lol
I know I am late to the party, but my first time seeing this reaction. You need to hear the unedited version. Only a couple of words different but it makes a big difference.
I sure hope you've done more A.I.C. since this one. Keep up the good work. :)
Awesome example of Seattle Grunge. Love this song! Grew up to songs like this in my early teens back in the 90's. Glad you like, Alex!! \m/
