❓ What DaVinci Resolve videos would you like to see me make? Oh, and this video was colored with my presets! If you want colors like these you can get the presets here - whoismatt.com/luts
Can you please show how you render videos in DaVinci from GoPro 1440/60 footage? It doesn't seem to have a drop-down menu for that particular type. My computer can barely handle that, so I can't even film in 2K or 4K with my GoPro because I can't play it back on my computer and I sure as heck can't do anything with DaVinci with it. No money to build a better computer right now. I actually have to run an earlier version of DaVinci on my HP too. I've had issues when I tried installing and running the newer versions. I download them to try maybe later, but I don't install them. I think I use the last version of 16 just before they rolled over to 17.
Last 2 important settings to change before rendering. Change color space drop-down to P3-DCI and Gamma Tag drop down to Rec.709. That prevents any gamma or color change from what you saw on screen to what gets exported.
@@Theaaronchris all video exports. Not strictly just for Instagram. If you don’t specify a gamma and colorspace the video may have a slight shift in contrast or color compared to what you saw on the screen while grading. This is Resolve’s answer to the problem Adobe Premiere has had for years and still offers no way to fix without a silly “compensation LUT” workaround.
@@AdamSzarmack okay cool. I’ll start doing that. Even for client and youtube work. I typically set my timeline color space to rec.709 2.4 or something like that
Hey Matt, if going from 16x9 -> 9x16 (vertical) it’s way easier to just duplicate (assuming you want to keep the 16x9 version) and then on the duplicate. Go to the cut tab there is a drop down for 1080x1920 - the. Select all you clips. Then under the inspector and change to fill crop. Next there is a reframe option in the inspector that will look for subject center of interest. Which most of the time works great. If not you can track subject in specific clips
Some minor critique: Scaling can just be done inside the project settings in the image scaling tab. You do not need to change the output scaling to crop in this case. render resolution will always match output scaling resolution (or input if set to match timeline settings)
I’ve been thinking about switching to da Vinci resolve and have used premiere pro for the last 15+ years since premiere pro 1.5, I think you should make a whole series of how to’s for premiere pro users to switch on over. I especially like the color grading features of resolve and feel they are so much more powerful then lumetri. I’ve been tinkering with resolve for the last couple months just on the free version.
Great tutorial. If you're going to be doing more tutorials on DaVinci, I'm sure it would lean heavily on color correction and grading. However, I think it would be helpful to make Resolve videos that explain a few things: 1. How to properly set audio levels for UA-cam (or social media) uploads (I see WAY too many people make mistakes in this department) 2. How to properly edit and upload Instagram Reels to match popular music audio beats (yes, there are already videos on this on YT, but you do a better job at explaining things than most YTbers) 3. How to edit in DaVinci Resolve on one computer, THEN use another computer to render. (I haven't seen anyone do this yet....not that I've thoroughly searched)
I followed your tutorial on best settings for Adobe and it worked great! Now that I'm in the process of switching to DaVinci from Adobe (your video on switching was what pushed me over the edge), it's a no-brainer to follow your settings this time around.
Good job, I was just challenged to do an IG reel everyday for 40 days and I had no idea how to do it. I use resolve so saw your video, you explained it well and went slow enough for this old guy (71) to keep up.
Thank you for this! Your videos are always so informative and calming :) I recently fully switched to Davinci Resolve 18 and I'm looking forward to more DaVinci vids! I would be curious about the basics of editing audio in the Fairlight tab.
Thank you Matt, please keep making more on Davinci Resolve, I’m currently learning editing on it (novice) so would REALLY appreciate tutorials 🙌🏼 simplified that which is what I require 🙈
Thanks Matt for all your videos! I've been using Davinci for years and have loved your videos, but I had to skip some since they were exclusive for Premiere. So great that you're now on the DR team!
Thanks, Matt u've always come thru for me. I used to use ur premier settings for this. Glad u're doing videos about Davinci now. Can't wait to see a color-grading video.
SUCH a helpful tutorial without necessary padding! Only area of confusion is that your render screen is different from mine. Is that because you are using STUDIO? For example, I don't have any options next to the "Automatic" selector for Quality.
I don't think I have ever once had a problem uploading to reels with large file sizes or variable bitrate. I'm about 300 videos in or so now. Just worth noting I guess.
Some of the items of which you speak, such as Rate Control, are not found on the iPad version. Do you know if they will be added in the future or are they hiding somewhere? Thank you.
Thank you very much for your amazing tips, also in Davinci now :) ! I learnt from you the different frame rates management in Premier Pro, priceless and good to see you again!
Hey Matt! Could you make a video showing us your colour grading work flow? I have usually just been using an S-Log3 adjustment LUT in my second node, adjustments in my first and then a style in the third. However lately have beenusing colour space transform as my second node and am kinda digging the results. Just curious to see how you do yours!
From what I’ve heard it’s best to have the LOG conversion LUT on the last node so that you have the whole tonal range to work with. If you put the LUT a you are only able to use the diminished color space of rec709
Thanks a lot. Very helpful. I often run into the problem, that after uploaded to IG the original sound is gone (while all is fine when I check locally). Any ideas ??
Hi Matt! I'm very new to using Da Vinci, and I'm coming from Premiere. I want to know how I can, in the color section, be able to edit my videos in vertical format. Well, when I go to that section, Da Vinci shows me the video in a very small size.
Really useful video! Just a question: supposing I have a 4K clip but I need to work with a 1080p timeline, may I export the final video in 4K without losing quality? In other words may I work in "1080p mode" with 4K clips obtaining and exporting 4K final work without any quality loss?
Great Video Matt! Is it possible that the "Rate Control" Option might only be available if you use NVDIA as GPU? I have a MacBook Pro and own the Studio version (it is also up to date) and I do not have that option... And as you said if I render out my video with 3500kb/s the quality is just plain awful :( Any suggestions on how to fix that except increasing the bitrates to over 14000kb/s?

Like a small rectangle? I used my iPhone to film initially. Is it a setting to keep the same dimensions that I'm doing? Thank you, Michael.
Hey Matt, Thank you ! I used your every export settings at Premiere, And just started Davinci and I'm here :) How about horizontal reels settings? Make res. 1920x1080 is enough?
