Setting Up & Wiring My M32R Case

  • Hey Friends! This video shows the wiring of my custom M32R case. The case was built by me at LM Cases. Its a modification of our standard 3 piece case that includes a rack section, laptop stand and iPad holder. I made a few custom cables to help with the quick set up of the console. Network cables include a hardwired line to the router to leave the console patched and a WAN and LAN line to feed the router. I also made a custom "Y" True1 cable with locking IEC connectors to power the console and router. Enjoy!

    Really enjoyed this. I'm about to put together an even smaller rig to fit in my Smart Car around an M32R Live! You're a man after my own heart with your planning and neatness. Keep the vids coming.

    I sometimes help run live sound for piano recitals at a music school where I teach and am also self-learning film scoring. I really like this technical side of music, though I have only rudimentary knowledge of live sound reinforcement and I'm sure it somewhat differs with the recording studio environment. Any recommendations for resources where I can learn more of this? (besides your awesome channel of course!) Really liking your videos man!

    Love the build. Super cool to see the way you’d build out something like that.
    Of all things, I’m curious about the rack that you went to to grab the locking IEC connector. Is that something you built as well? I’m always looking for better ways of storing stuff like that!
    Also would be cool to see your design process when you are planning to build out something like this!

      Hey Tyler thanks for the kind words! The rack is actually something I built to hold connectors and raw cable reels. I’ve had a few people ask for a shop tour video. I’ll try to shoot one this week. I guess that is my excuse to clean my messy desk! 😂😂

    Hi Billy
    Nice video as always
    I have one question, which I couldn’t find the answer for.
    Have You ever tried patching out an AES50 connection?
    I am planning to build an all-in-one rig, with an X32 rack+S16 box, mainly for in-ears, and occasionally for FOH as well. We will buy a Dante card for the X32, so the keys and tracks can live on DVS, without interface, without double conversion. I want to make it compact, but I want the possibility to send the digital signals both with Dante and AES50. I am aware of the shell continuity problems, which occur with Behringer and Midas stuff with AES50. Do you know any solutions to that?
    Best regards,
    Csabi

    • @billylaguardia
      @billylaguardia  Рік тому

      I’ve never used the Dante card. Though I’d bet that it works like the recording USB card that comes with the console. You would set a bank of inputs to “card” for your Dante lines and set the other banks to AES50 for the analog inputs coming from the S16. There is a box called the Multiverter that is a format converter matrix. One of the conversions it does is Dante to AES50. I don’t think you need it, but it’s a cool tool to know about. www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MVR64--appsys-mvr-64-multiverter-digital-format-converter

      @@billylaguardia oh sorry I wrote it in a misunderstandable way. I was speaking about the Dante Card just as an extra explanation of my situation.
      My question is about phyisically patching out an AES50 connector from the back of an X32 rack to a rack panel. I would rather have closed racks, unless I need any kind of shelf.
      As You possibly know, there are some problems with using any extra patch point with AES50

    • @csabislezak8485
      @csabislezak8485 Рік тому

      And as I read it on some blogs, it might be because the AES50 connection needs shell connectivity, and uses the shell of the ethercon connectors, alongside the shielding of the cable itself.
      And in most cases this is not a problem, point-to-point cabling is possible.
      But what if you want a nicely made rack..? How can it be patched out?
      That was meant to be my question :)

    • @billylaguardia
      @billylaguardia  Рік тому +1

      @@csabislezak8485 ahh sorry! You will be fine with an IO panel. Just use a shielded cat and the HD Neutrik NE8FDX-P6 jack. I keep a few of them loose in my workbox to use as turnarounds. Point to point is always the safest - I’m sure you have seen my AES50 struggle videos! But you really should be ok with that heavy duty jack. I’ve switched from using the NE8FDP jacks as the FDX jacks are built waaay better. www.lmcasesonline.com/neutrik-ne8fdx-p6-cat-6-feed-through-connector-nickel/

    I've never heard of the brand Luxul, what made you choose them vs something like Cisco, Ubiquity, or Microtik? coming from an IT world these are very common brands.

    • @billylaguardia
      @billylaguardia  Рік тому +3

      It’s an installers brand. I generally use Ubiquiti ER-x routers however they have been unavailable during and post Covid. The Luxul brand is great. They also have an IEC power inlet and a more durable rack mount format. Both are important for me since everything I build needs to be on the road.
