The air quotes cracked me up, good design well done.
That seems so complicated! I have a basement full of daphnia, and never experience a crash. I use those 32gal brute rubbermaid garbage bins. Just wrap an old t-shirt on a water pump and drain the water out of the bin that way. I also vacuum the bottom of the bin into a 5gal bucket, let it sit for 10min and get as many daphnia out as I can throughout a day or two. You can never get them all but if you don't do this, you will experience a culture crash.
