    I collected my daphnia from a local pond in early May 2020. The daphnia I have are mixed with cylops and other ostrocods, though the daphnia. Last year I cultured them outside. At the end of the tubbing season, I drained the water down to about 2-3". As soon as the spring temperature were regularly above 50F, they started hatching. I then filled the pond with dechlorinated tap water.
    I've already started an indoor culture for the upcoming Winter. The one thing I really like about feeding daphnia is that it's almost impossible to overfeed, since the daphnia are perfectly fine in the tank with the fish. They eat any remaining daphnia once they're hungry again.
    This video is a very clear explanation of how to culture daphnia indoors. Thanks for sharing the info!

      Thank you very much for your comment! I would like to add water changes are important for daphnia because of our ability to overfeed a little bit over time. I used a very fine mesh net over the siphon for water changes and I recommend changing water ~sooner than weekly depending on size of aquarium or containers they are in.

      @@Nice-Poeci-Fancy-Guppies yes I've found the same thing since my first comment. I put a fine sponge over the syphon and change water every time I add green water which is about every three days. They are thriving!

      @@rosie2155 aw thank you very much! I wish your daphnia the best of luck. Fish absolutely love them and it enhances their colors and instinctual behaviors, totally worth it. Most especially good for fry to understand a fishes pecking order, naturally. Best of all is watching the fry play king of the daphnia.

    hello i work at a company that makes powdered foods like powered carrots, powdered broccoli, powdered avocado and anything you can think of. would these be a good food for the daphnia? what would be the ideal powdered food to mix with the flour?

      I have tried many things, including chlorella and spirulina, however I would stand by the yeast as it yields the highest outcome IMO. You can always give it a shot and see, just remember frequent water changes to protect from overfeeding.

      Ive tried all of them so different tanks have different ones but overall i think ADA aqua soil is king and fluvial stratum is a great option at a good price. Sand works fine, gravel works fine but IMO aqua soil is totally worth it if your going to keep live plants.

    • @Nice-Poeci-Fancy-Guppies
      @Nice-Poeci-Fancy-Guppies  3 роки тому

      I usually have it on 12-18 hours a day. I goal is to have a strong light that can produce green water as a natural food source in between the yeast and spirulina powder water mixture.
