I know this is old, but for anyone who reads this now with the same question, the females are born already pregnant and give birth to live young during the warm season with plenty of food. (They produce asexually at those times.) When things start to slow down, and cool off with less food, or when the weather gets too hot that the pool they're in starts to dry, there will be males present to mate with(producing sexually this time) and females will lay eggs with special outer casing that protects the eggs when things dry out where they will then hatch again as soon as it rains enough again next season.

I think eggs are bad? Idk but I heard somewhere that eggs means something isn't right. Usually they give birth to live young. Thats what mine do

i looked up Daphnia but no real info. What are you using them for? Testing for water borne toxins?
