That image is hilarious. I'm a 30 year licensed structural engineer in aviation. Problem? Rivet is to long. Solution? Use a rivet with the correct grip length!!! Now I will watch the video. EDIT, Clever rivet mod. 👍👍
I may watch that again! Feeling the jazz vibe! No but seriously, rivets are delicious to work with! Thanks for the birds eye view of the mandrel flaring the tube end!
Wow, thank you sooo much. I've never seen a video this short with this much information, without lot of ridiculous talking. Well, like they say: some people just got it.
Question: Since the Rivet Base begins to deform (shorten) immediately when you begin to compress the "nail", is there some way to 'begin' compressing the Rivet at an angle (like the one shown in the vid) and then "straighten out" the installation tool once the below-surface nub has shortened enough to be swung to the Vertical? Or is the Rivet component deformed at an angle that won't allow correct 'attachment' of the two surfaces?
Hey, how about a similar video with another handy mounting system called Rivet nuts? A fastener that leaves a threaded hole to attach things with standard size machine screws.
Can you write the manufacturing step of how pop rivets are produced? can you write like this, i cut it on the lathe and then i made a hole as an example
You could do this with nails that are too long - cut them to needed length then resharpen the point. OR you could just use the correct size in the first place.
Many occasions there is not the correct length for the application. More than often the rivet won't pop correctly if length is not correct. Help this helps
A rivet gun, or a riveter. a cheap one is 20$ and an expensive one is 150$. They come with 5 standard size tips so u can rivet 5 different size rivets. You can even get cordless and pnuematic rivet guns

Clever. I admire people's ingenuity. But this seems like a lot of work, when you could just use the correct rivet.
Nice solution for when you only need one or two shorter rivets. You are rite, buying a packet of the correct size is best.
Obviously having the correct size is best, but if a job only requires 1 or 2 rivets and its a 2 hour round trip to the supplies, its a no-brainer
Thank you! I wish more videos were as straight to the point as yours.
Thanks for the inside view very helpful.
